You Can't Keep A Good Liar Down

Particularly when there's money to be made from it:

"OAKLAND, Calif. – A California preacher who foretold of the world's end only to see the appointed day pass with no extraordinarily cataclysmic event has revised his apocalyptic prophecy, saying he was off by five months and the Earth actually will be obliterated on Oct. 21.

Through chatting with a friend over what he acknowledged was a very difficult weekend, it dawned on him that instead of the biblical Rapture in which the faithful would be swept up to the heavens, May 21 had instead been a "spiritual" Judgment Day, which places the entire world under Christ's judgment, he said.

The globe will be completely destroyed in five months, he said, when the apocalypse comes. But because God's judgment and salvation were completed on Saturday, there's no point in continuing to warn people about it, so his network will now just play Christian music and programs until the final end on Oct. 21."

Right.  Here's my question:  Since  "God's judgment and salvation were completed on Saturday," will this already quite rich man stop attempting to collect money from his followers between now and Oct. 21?

Well, at least anyone who believes this guy from now on deserves not one second of our pity.

He said there would be giant earthquakes, and people whooshed up to Heaven by God's giant vacuum cleaner. He was wrong. It didn't happen.

Those who stick with him after this pathetic attempt to weasel out of admitting he was wrong, will be only the most gullible of the gullible. The ones who won't bat an eye if he comes up with some reason to start asking for money again. The ones born to be fleeced.

Since his "church" had more than 70 million in the bank at the close of business Friday, one would have to expect it will have at least that much in the bank come the end of days this October. Maybe he plans on writing a check at the pearly gates?

btw - I still maintain the hell on earth stand.

Mastercynic, things could always get worse.

And never forget the great wisdom of W. C. Fields: You can't cheat an honest man. These people need to look inside, because they make themselves victims by wanting something for nothing, whether it's a free ticket to heaven, or government services without having to pay for them (or, as usual, both.)
