A Shocking Statistic

This one:

" If our nation were to return to the rates of incarceration we had in the 1970s, we would have to release 4 out of 5 people behind bars."

One more result of the sickness that has overtaken our country since the presidency of Ronald Reagan- seeing prisons as an industry.  Just as greed, fueled by Reaganomics, has devastated our real estate business and our health care system, it has allowed millions to be imprisoned, primarily to benefit those employed in the prison sector and those who run prisons-for-profit.

Those who insist that the inevitable inefficiencies of government bureaucracy could ever be worse than this outrage, are lying or are deeply morally defective.
