The Single Most Important Fact about Life in America Today

It's this one:

"The income gap between rich and poor Americans grew to the widest amount on record and represents the greatest disparity among Western industrialized nations, according to U.S. Census data."

After eight years of doctrinaire Republican rule.  Don't forget that the last time this happened was also after eight years of doctrinaire Republican rule, with massive tax cuts for the rich and deregulation the order of the day.  That would be in 1929, and we know how that worked out for the American people.

The Republican party is willing to deliberately destroy the country and all of the rest of us, in order to serve they hyper rich.  It has had this attitude since it said goodbye to Teddy Roosevelt, and that is all it exists for.  Its lies and its greed have caused one depression and almost caused another one, and still, Republicans do the bidding of the rich, no matter what the cost.

This is the real threat to our national security, not a bunch of Muslim jackasses twelve thousand miles away.  All those terrorists managed to accomplish was to give the Republican party carte blance in the wake of 9-11 to go on a rampage of greed that destroyed our economy, and did more damage to us than Osama Bin Laden could ever have hoped to do.

No Shit. In case you haven't noticed, there's a government-sponsored recession on, and during recessions, people lose their jobs.

When people lose their jobs, they have no money, thereby increasing the income gap. Such studies famously do not take into account public assistance, government health insurance, etc.

I'm not minimizing it. People really are hurting. You help them by creating a good business climate so people can have jobs and take care of themselves.

As for the disparity, nothing a little Marxist "spreadin' in around" won't cure.

The income disparity is not a phenomenon of the last two years. It has been growing ever since Ronald Reagan sent this country down the path of tax cuts for the rich and deregulation. This is exactly what happened during Republican administrations in the twenties, and it has had the exact same effect. What's more, Silverfiddle, you know all of this perfectly well, and yet you are still willing to lie in public about it because you are so God damned greedy that all the Republican party has to do is wave a few bucks in front of your eyes, and you will help them spread any lie.

The Earned Income Tax credit, passed in 1975, was greatly expanded by Ronald Reagan. Why don't you point to that?

Serious question: Where do you get your economic information?

This was pointed out on my blog about the scum sucking Reagan:

You forgot to mention that Reagan raised taxes on the bottom 50%. Ronnie raised the social security tax in 1983 and never undid that tax hike. All his income tax cuts for the rich never affected the lower 50% so we only got to bear the brunt of tax hike Ronnie's wrath. If your income was largely derived from tips, you got double-whammied by Ronnie when he signed the Republican "Dole Waitress Tax". That's when your servers suddenly had to declare their tips as income and end up paying the new and improved 1983 social security tax on them.

"We were told four years ago that 17 million people went to bed hungry every night. Well, that was probably true. They were all on a diet."
--Ronald Reagan, October 27, 1964

The same could not be said after Reagan was President. One of the main goals of his presidency was to force the poor to go hungry. Stealing food from the poor and lavishing money on the rich has been the goal of Republicans from Reagan onwards.

But, Reagan was loved because he told the troglodytes of the south they weren't evolved.

You guys love taxes, so Reagan should be your hero!

If a democrat had bumped up the social security withholding, you'd be hailing him as a savior of the system.

This is the problem with people like you Gene. You are logically inconsistent and you don't even get your facts straight.

Here, go read this and educate yourself. It's from your hero Paul Krugman, and he praised Reagan for what you are damning him for.

You've got your head so far up your MSNBC you can't even see the bigger picture. Do you realize there is no tax increase big enough to cover government spending?

Liberalism is a tangled, incoherent mess, and you fit in there just great.

Silverfiddle,

Maybe you should leave the economic commenting to adults.
