Wingnut Wrapup
A word about Jim Hoft, one of our favorite characters here at Wingnut Wrapup. You may have noticed that we haven't had anything from him lately. It turns out that Jim had some severe health problems, and had to have a number of surgeries. Well, Jim seems to be on the mend. We wish him the best, and look forward to featuring him again. Until then, this will have to do:
Terry Jeffrey, Town Hall: "Obama Prohibits Practice of Catholicism in US"
Well, I don't even have to tell you what this is about- the "practice" of telling other people how they have to live. Too bad Obama can't prohibit the "practices" of Catholic priests that we've heard so much about the last few years, but no, the one Terry is worried about is prohibiting Catholic business owners from ruling the lives of their employees.
Donald Lambro, Town Hall: "a Washington Post poll says 63 percent of voters blame House Republicans for the shutdown...Don't be fooled by those polls showing public approval of Congress has fallen into the teens or single digits."
Remember when those lying Democrats had polls telling you that Obama was going to win the 2012 election? Aren't you glad you ignored all of that? President Romney has made things so much better!
Erick Erickson, Red State: "Hold Your Ground and Shut John Cornyn Up"
That's the way to win arguments, Erick- just shut up anyone who disagrees with you. It's been tried before:
And while we are on the photos, here's a nice shot, from "Confederate Yankee" Bob Owens, of a practice shooting target being sold on right wing sites these days:
Tasteful, huh?
Rick Moran, PJ Media: "The scary part is, no one in America knows how to fix what's broken and bring us back to sanity."
Yes we do, Rick. We could start by throwing a few thousand of you right wing subversives in jail for sedition, and then twenty thousand or so Wall Street guys. That would be a good way to kick off getting back to normal.
Ed Driscoll, PJ Media: "Daniel J. Flynn Fights Back Against The War On Football"
Knock yourself out, Daniel. You've got to find something to do with your time between now and Thanksgiving, when the War on Christmas will be heating up again.
Bryan Preston, PJ Tatler: "Exclusive: Judicial Watch Files FOIA for Information Related to Closing of WWII Memorial"
Sorry, Judicial Watch. The government can't deal with your request. They're closed.
Gateway Pundit: "Prominent Saudia Arabian Mufti Calls For Destruction Of All Christian Churches On Arabian Peninsula"
Great. That puts him right in there with all you guys who are calling for the destruction of all Mosques in the United States. Oh but wait, that's different...
Andrea Ryan, Gateway Pundit: "Figures. While Rome Burns Obama Fiddles With White House Website"
I bet you never knew that Obama maintains the White House website all by himself. Besides being a Constitutional law teacher, a former Senator and the President of the United States, he's one hell of an IT guy. Actually, Barack, we're having a little trouble with the network here at work. Next time you're in town, could you spare a few minutes to straighten it out?
Sarah Palin: “President Obama, a couple of weeks ago when he was hell-bent on dropping bombs on Syria, he said America doesn’t do pinpricks. Well, we don’t do pinpricks, but sometimes we elect them.”
Tasteful, Sarah. As usual. Well, unlike the people of Alaska, at least we don't elect pinheads.
Oh, wait:
Sorry. I take it all back.
Gina Miller, Renew America: "Has Jackson, Mississippi, lost its mind? Here in Mississippi, we have a conservative majority among residents; however, the population of Jackson is roughly 80 percent black and 20 percent white, and we know that a stupefying majority of black people blindly support Democrats, regardless of the Democrats' evil, destructive policies. Voters in Jackson, Miss...have picked a Democrat as their mayor."
The horror! A city which is 80% black elected a black mayor! I knew it would come to this when those people were given the vote! But wait, there's more!
"This guy is part of a racist movement that intends to commandeer five southeastern states and turn them into an independent nation..."
Oh my God, that's the most horrible thing I've ever heard of! A bunch of racists turning Southern States into an independent nation where they can practice their racism! Where could these evil people have ever gotten such a traitorous idea?
Mark Levin: “You Lay One Damn Hand On One Of Those WW II Vets At That Memorial And I’ll Bring Half A Million People To That Damn Memorial!”
Mark, you couldn't bring a half dozen cockroaches to a ham sandwich.
And now, the historical mangling of the week:
Fred Hutchison, Renew America: "Nazism was not a secret conspiracy. Hitler published and spoke publically and blatantly about everything he intended to do. To the amazement of the Western world, he did almost everything he said he would do. The liberal modernists refused to believe that he actually meant what he said. Winston Churchill refused to live in denial and warned that Hitler meant exactly what he said. Churchill's annoyed government consigned him to the political wilderness, where he remained – until Hitler invaded Poland on September 1, 1939."
The government that "consigned him to the political wilderness" was a Conservative one, not a liberal one. I guess that slipped Fred's mind. Just like it slipped his mind that the opposition here in the United States to doing anything against Hitler came almost entirely from Republicans. Well, what can you expect from a bunch of loons that are running around the country claiming that the shutdown was Obama's idea?
And how about one of the stupidest right wing remarks to pass by the desk of Green Eagle in a long while?
Laurie Roth, Renew America: " Obama screams with his dictatorship tonsils that he will VETO all "piecemeal" appropriation bills that the House is now putting together"
Dictatorship tonsils. That would be funny if it weren't so pathetic.
Guy Benson, Town Hall: "Ahem: Feds Still Won't Say How Many People Have Successfully Enrolled in Obamacare"
After THREE DAYS! It's a complete failure! Shut it down now!!!!
Jonah Goldberg, Town Hall: "...while Republicans can be blamed for starting the shutdown, it's increasingly apparent that President Obama and the Democrats deserve the lion's share of blame for not only prolonging it, but for making it as painful as possible."
Translation: Yeah, the Republicans cooked up an extortion plot, but Obama deserves the blame for not giving in to it.
And now, an unusually blunt specimen of Republican dickishness as they desperately try to blame their disaster on Obama:
John Hayward, Red State: "Every true “independent” voter in the United States should be clamoring for the full and immediate repeal of ObamaCare after watching a few days of Barack Obama’s Shutdown Theater. Do you really think the man who vandalized the World War II Memorial with barricades to make elderly veterans suffer will hesitate a microsecond to use your health care as leverage against you, the next time you defy his commands? You’re not “independent” in any meaningful sense whatsoever if you’re comfortable with what’s going on here."
Obama "vandalized" the World War II monument by erecting barriers around it when it was closed due to the Republicans! What a monster! And that proves that Obama will deny you health care if you "defy his commands!" Let's not forget that this is exactly what the Republicans are doing right now- trying to deny people health care if they don't give in to Republican demands. Obama, on the other hand is not making "commands," but enforcing the law. But no, the real fear is that Obama might make people suffer in the future, if he undergoes a total change of personality. And the conclusion of all this? You're not an independent unless you do what the Republicans want.
Judson Phillips, Washington Times: "Harry Reid’s shutdown - What do liberals really want?"
Here we go again, blaming the Democrats. Well, Judson, I'm here to answer your question: What do liberals really want? We want to live in a country where people who are not born rich have a chance to live a decent life. That's pretty much it. I know that people like you just can't get onboard with such a malicious idea, but we'll just have to live with that on our consciences, I guess.
And here's a funny view about the way our government works, from one of Judson's commenters:
"The ACA won fair and square"? What are you talking about? The ACA was voted in by a majority Democratic Congress...It was not the will of the people, it was strictly the will (and idea) of Obama and the Democrats."
Well, clearly, if it was passed by a Congress that had a majority of Democrats, it isn't really the law. You don't often get them spelling out their insanity so clearly.
And now, the Conservative alternative to Obamacare:
Troy Newman, World Net Daily: " Since my position as a minister scarcely paid the bills, my family relied on God’s provision to cover all of our health-care needs, as well as everything else in our lives. Again and again, God showed Himself faithful, and I slowly learned over the next two decades to put all of my trust in Him."
Well, I'm sure that will work just fine. Troy is against actually providing for the inevitable medical expenses he will eventually incur, which (of course) the rest of us will have to pay for, in a perfect specimen of what Conservatives really mean when they preach about self reliance:
"Left unchecked, this new health-care law is fully capable of leading the United States into becoming a police state. That may sound crazy to some..."
Yes, Troy, it does sound crazy. And not just to some. It sounds crazy to anyone who is not crazy.
Byron York, Renew America: "From Michele Bachmann, a persuasive case for why many Republicans don't fear a shutdown"
Michelle Bachmann never made a persuasive case for anything in her life, except the need to institutionalize the severely mentally ill.

Comments
The 'War on Football' reference reminds me of an article about the NFL in The Atlantic which I found via Daily Kos. It's by Gregg Easterbrook, who has held positions on some things I wouldn't agree with, but it seems to me to be a pretty good illustration of the movement of public money into private wealth:
