The Great Betrayal

Well, get ready for it...here it comes.  From the New York Times:

"The president’s renewed efforts follow what knowledgeable officials said was an overture from Mr. Boehner, who met secretly with Mr. Obama last weekend, to consider as much as $1 trillion in unspecified new revenues as part of an overhaul of tax laws in exchange for an agreement that made substantial spending cuts, including in such social programs as Medicare and Medicaid and Social Security — programs that had been off the table."

But now, thanks to Obama, they are on the table.  Let me repeat what we all know:  Social Security does not contribute one cent to the Federal budget deficit.  It is entirely self-funding, and has nothing to do with any other government program.  Barack Obama is perfectly aware of this, yet he is willing to go along with the vicious Republican attempt to gut Social Security.  In the process, he will give away for all time the greatest weapon Democrats have against Republican greed- never again will voters be able to trust that their interests will be protected in any way by Democrats, when it is less trouble for them to do otherwise.

"Congressional Democrats said they were caught off guard by the weekend White House visit of Mr. Boehner — a meeting the administration still refused to acknowledge on Wednesday — and Senate Democrats raised concerns at a private party luncheon on Wednesday."

Obama is meeting with the corrupt serial liar Boehner, but not with his own party.  Just who is this guy anyway, and why did we ever trust him?

And of course, we know perfectly well that, after Obama makes the Democratic party swallow this poison pill, the Republicans are going to go back on their end of the deal.  They are making this perfectly clear already, confident that they have so mesmerized Obama that even openly taunting him with their intent won't wake him from his daze:

"Aides to Mr. Boehner said that no tax increases were on the table and that he had not agreed to the expiration of any tax cuts. At the same time, Representative Eric Cantor, the Virginia Republican and majority leader, said Wednesday that he would not accept any net increase in federal revenues, and that any money raised from eliminating tax breaks or loopholes must be offset by cuts elsewhere in the tax code."

Something that is perfectly clear even to normally oblivious Democrats:

"Democrats were distrustful of Mr. Boehner’s idea, saying such an approach raises the prospect that future tax and revenue changes could be blocked by Republicans after Democrats had already agreed to the detailed cuts.

To the degree that any deal wins bipartisan support on slowing the growth of Medicare, for example, it would deprive Democrats of what has been one of their most potent arguments heading into 2012: their assertion that Republicans would gut the traditional Medicare system and leave older Americans vulnerable to rapidly rising health care costs. "

And everyone on earth seems to know this except Barack Obama.  Well, maybe in the end, Obama is just another Clarence Thomas- a corrupt, sellout politician on the take from big business, who liberals couldn't turn down because he is black.

I'll tell you this, though:  This is Obama's Rubicon.  If he carries through on this rotten deal, I will not vote for him in 2012.  Of course, I won't vote for a Republican, but I will not cast my vote for a person who could do this, knowing perfectly well what the results would be.  And then I will pack my bags and leave what's left of the United States behind.
