More Change We Can Believe In

From the Times (That would be New York, not Washington:)

"More than 20 percent of the nation’s water treatment systems have violated key provisions of the Safe Drinking Water Act over the last five years, according to a New York Times analysis of federal data.

Regulators were informed of each of those violations as they occurred. But regulatory records show that fewer than 6 percent of the water systems that broke the law were ever fined or punished by state or federal officials (during the Bush administration.)

On Tuesday, the Senate Environment and Public Works committee will question a high-ranking E.P.A. official about the agency’s enforcement of drinking-water safety laws. The E.P.A. is expected to announce a new policy for how it polices the nation’s 54,700 water systems.

“This administration has made it clear that clean water is a top priority,” said an E.P.A. spokeswoman, Adora Andy....“The previous eight years provide a perfect example of what happens when political leadership fails to act to protect our health and the environment,” Ms. Andy added."

Once again, I want to point out that, while Republicans continue their unabated effort to destroy and humiliate the Obama administration on every major front, behind the scenes, every day good things are happening which would never occur under a Republican administration.

Unless you enjoy drinking sewage.

Seem like small steps, but they're actually improving, and even saving, our lives.

And they are good to remember when we get discouraged by the mockery the Republicans make of the big issues.

This is why I will continue to support Obama even though he hurt me greatly with the continued Afghan War. The Abject Evil emanating from the Right is too dangerous to dally with...

I can only hope Obama will abide by his commitments to extract us from the Bush/Cheney Wars for Profit.
The facility I work at is staffed by people who care about quality. It might also be added that the party that has held the mayors office in my city has been democrat since 1984. Democrats just run things better.

Gene, I agree totally. It is so easy to lose track of the good things that happen every day, when we see the forces that can be mustered to prevent change on things like health care. And Truth, I agree with you except that it is Republicans' goal to use government to steer more and more to the rich, and in that, they succeed quite well.
