They Just Can't Believe It
Here is a little excerpt from a post by Digby, quoting an article by Robert Draper:
I have made a point before, and this is a good time to make it again. This problem- that the American people just can't believe that the Republican party is doing what it openly says it is- is hardly restricted to Paul Ryan's budget. Here is the real ugly truth: The Republican party is, and has been for at least a couple of decades, been devoted to destroying the middle class and democracy in the United States. They are intent on turning this country into an oligarchic dictatorship in which all property belongs to a few thousand families, and the rest of the country has been reduced to such desperate poverty that they have no ability to stand up in any way to this minuscule ruling class. Their intended fate for us is a country that recognizes no restraint on the rich, not even those responsibilities that were a part of feudalism for thousands of years, and are now regarded as miserably inadequate as a form of government.
Here is a historical analogy, and Godwin be damned: Hitler, in Mein Kampf, laid out exactly what he intended to do if he took power. Yet almost no one believed that any human being could actually be so callous and evil, so it was dismissed as political exaggeration.
Well, fool me once, and all that. These people are out to destroy everything that makes our lives meaningful or even tolerable, so they can consume all the wealth in the world. They mean it, and they intend to do it. What's more, they have billions in funds to confuse the American people about their future under Republican rule.
Hitler didn't need an election to become Reichschancellor. Romney does have to win an election, but no one said it has to be a fair one.
