Wingnut Wrapup

It's important to take a few minutes every now and then to remind ourselves that, as vicious as they are, they are just as stupid.  Here's the evidence for today.

Lets start with some maundering idiocy from the mainstream "press," just to remind ourselves that you don't have to be consigned to wingnut world to spread their idiocy:

Michael Gerson, Washington Post:  "Do Egypt's protests mean American decline?...The protesters, one article complained, didn't even bother to burn our flag. "

The nerve of them, not burning our flag.  They have no business changing their government without making it clear to the world that it's all about us.

This belligerent loon continues:

"People in Holland or Costa Rica do not celebrate or decry their lack of sway in Egyptian politics. Only Americans feel vindication or guilt at the limits of their power."

That's because people in Holland or Costa Rica are sane, Michael.

Now, on to the rest:

Confederate Yankee:  "Egypt Inflamed, Obama Unmasked...Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak made fools of the U.S. pundit and political classes yesterday, who had predicted the aging strongman was going to announce he was stepping down in a scheduled speech.  Instead, Mubarak refused to quit, and the world now waits to see if today's protests will escalate into something more akin to civil war.

Throughout the crisis, the world has looked to America to see how the world's only remaining superpower would react. A trio of news stories yesterday showed how incompetent our Administration really is, showing they are incapable of leadership.  Our President seems to be taking orders from foreign leaders, setting up a situation where he was played as a patsy."

Who's looking like the dumb one now, Mr. Yankee?  Maybe you should try keeping your mouth shut for a few hours before trying to twist everything on earth into a humiliation of Barack Obama.  In fact, if you don't want to look like an idiot, maybe you should keep your mouth shut forever.  As far as I can tell, it's your only hope.

Elisabeth Meinecke, Town Hall:  "Saddam Hussein Targeted Rumsfeld's Daughters"

Or so Rumsfeld claims.  On the other hand, Rumsfeld targeted Saddam's sons, and actually killed them both.  Okay, I know, you're going to tell me that Saddam's sons were a couple of evil bastards.  You know what?  I bet Rumsfeld's daughters are no prizes either.

Robert Knight, Town Hall:  "Reagan’s Rollback of Communism Is a Model for the Tea Parties"

And it is too:  a huge pile of meaningless, belligerent blather that had virtually no positive effect, except in the deranged minds of wingnuts.

Ben Domenech, Red State:  "Blayne Bennett of Students for Liberty explains: “Even one hundred years ago, governments were able to finance their economic output based on a very small tax burden."

In reciting this piece of right wing cant, Blayne forgot to mention that the reason for that is that the Federal government got most of its money from tariffs.  How about if we tell multinational corporations that they are going to pay big for making things in other countries and selling them here?  Think the wingnuts who are always screaming about corporate taxes would go for that one?

Blayne "explaining" this and some other stupid right wing talking points is hilarious.  It's like a valley girl giving a lecture on constitutional law.  If you want to see her infantile remarks for yourself, here you go.

D. Horowitz, Red State:  "Hey Barack, Resign Now, and Now Means Yesterday"

Because you are not a Republican, and you keep doing things that Republicans don't like.

And boy are right wingers incensed about a Democrat making money:

Tom Blumer, Pajamas Media:  "Huffington's Heist...Hundreds of millions, on the backs of free help."

Because it's an abomination when a liberal has a successful business.  That's the sort of thing that shouldn't ever be allowed.

Roger Simon, Pajamas Media:  "Does the HuffPo Sale Mean Obama Is Over?  Arianna has read the tea leaves: progressivism is no longer good business."

No, it's such a bad business that it made her $300 million dollars in five years, starting with nothing.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Great. Now Obama Wants to Force His Way on TV During an Emergency. Just like Hugo Chavez...Castro does this in Cuba too, doesn’t he?"

As usual, Jim Hoft wins the prize for the stupidest thing you ever heard.  The abomination!  The President might want to speak to the American people during a national emergency!  How dare he?  Only a Communist would do a thing like that!

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "New Chrysler Ad Makes Americans Long For a Different President "

What, you mean different from that Barack Obama guy who saved Chrysler from going out of business?  Like maybe a Republican president, who would have let Chrysler go bankrupt, so they wouldn't even exist today to run ads? That makes sense.

Alan Caruba, Renew America:  "Islam and the prospect of World War Three"

Catch up, Alan.  As Wingnut Wrapup readers know, your fellow wingnuts are already spreading the fear about World War Four.

World Net Daily:  "Now you know why Republicans have reputation of 'wimps'

Because they didn't actually cut the budget after being elected, like they promised!  Surprise, surprise!  Now you know why Republican voters have the reputation of 'suckers.'

Elizabeth Scalia, The Anchoress:  "Whoa, this is cool...I don’t know, I look at these pictures (of a new Stockholm subway station) and then consider the NYC Subway system, or others and think, why aren’t we doing staggering, creative things like this, anymore?"

Oh, I don't know, maybe it's because you and your fellow conservatives scream bloody murder every time the government spends a penny on mass transit?  What do you think, could that be the reason?

Dan Riehl, Riehl World View:  "A Palin-Giuliani ticket? Giuliani’s people are floating around the idea"

Oh boy, there's a good idea.

Gary Johnson, the Daily Caller:  "How to create jobs -Eliminating the corporate income tax, repealing the federal minimum wage, ending unemployment benefits and other job-creating ideas."

They never stop, do they?

Laura Donovan, the Daily Caller:  "Bristol Palin: I’d ‘probably’ run for office ‘further down the road’

Because what better qualification could someone have for public office than getting knocked up as a teenager?

Tom Jeffrey, Town Hall:  "Reagan's Farewell Regret: Deficit He'd Put Nation on Track to Eliminate"

Why, sure he did, Tom.  You know, before Reagan took office, the highest annual Federal budget deficit in history, except during World War II, was $57 billion.  Boy does that sound like chump change now.  This is just one of the many patent lies about Saint Ronnie that Republicans just won't give up on.

Pam "Shreiking Harpy" Geller, Atlas Shrugs:  "Mubarak To Resign Tonight  In a catastrophic turn of event"

What could be more catastrophic than seeing a Muslim country ridding itself of a dictator, without first giving the United States a chance to bomb the hell out of them?

And now, the "whoops, I shot my mouth off too soon" award:

Confederate Yankee:  "Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak made fools of the U.S. pundit and political classes yesterday, who had predicted the aging strongman was going to announce he was stepping down in a scheduled speech.  Instead, Mubarak refused to quit"

Aah, the age old Conservative dilemma.  Dictator: bad or good?  They can't seem to make up their minds.

I too look forward to the Wrapup. Being a masochist, I go through a fair amount of this stuff myself. But I'm in awe of Green Eagle's ability to skewer the absurdities it with a few choice words.

Green Eagle is a very sarcastic person, and after a lifetime of having it be one of his most annoying qualities, he is thrilled to find a good use for it.

"You know what? I bet Rumsfeld's daughters are no prizes either."

In 1983, I hosted a birthday party for a good friend of mine at my home. His daughter was a college friend of Donald Rumsfeld's daughter [I think her name was Susan] and she attended the birthday bash.

I didn't pay much attention at the time, because I wasn't paying attention to politics, but I do remember my friend's daughter introducing me to Rumsfeld's daughter.

She was a lovely young woman.

And we had a hell of a great birthday party.

Weird, when I think of it.

Evil men always have lovely daughters.

Else there'd be no-one to save the panting hero as he dangles over the crocodile pit.
