Huckabee- Mainstreaming Right Wing Violence

I was led to the following nauseating excerpt from Mike Huckabee's Fox show by a rant from Hunter at Daily Kos.  Well, I'm going to join him, because what this represents cannot go unnoticed:

"CALLER: I'm very concerned, it seems like there's so many people who have not read and do not understand how quickly Germany was turned into, it was a democracy, then turned into a dictatorship by everyone having to register their guns and then they went door to door and collected them.

HUCKABEE: People do forget that. And by the way, [caller] know, that when you bring that up you get people who get crazy on us, and they'll start saying, "Oh there you go comparing to the Nazis." And I understand the reaction, but it's the truth. You cannot take people's rights away if they're resisting and if they have the means to resist, but once they're disarmed and the people who are trying to take over have all the power, not just political, not just financial, but they have the physical power to domesticate us and to subjugate us to our will there's not a whole lot we can do about it other than just plan to die in the course of resistance. It's very true [caller], and I appreciate you bringing it up. I know that people are probably calling and saying you know you shouldn't have brought that up. In every society and culture where dictators take over, one of the things they have to do is get control of the military and the police and ultimately all of the citizens and make sure the citizens are disarmed and can't fight in the streets. Gosh I hope it doesn't come to that."

As Hunter did, let me first clear the decks by pointing out that Huckabee is lying about Hitler and gun control.  Neither Hitler, nor Mussolini, nor Robespierre, nor the Russian or Chinese Communists, nor the Saudi dictators, nor Saddam, nor the Ayatollahs, nor Genghis Khan, nor virtually any other dictator in history ascended to power by taking people's weapons away.  And no, I will not for one second countenance the suggestion that this guy, who has been shooting his mouth off about guns for years, doesn't know this.  He is, as I said, lying.

And what is he lying to accomplish?  He is deliberately  attempting to create a large number of right wingers who believe it is their Constitutional right to murder government employees at will.  It cannot be emphasized strongly enough what an explosive situation Huckabee and all the "national leaders" like him are deliberately creating.

Forty years ago, this sort of open talk was the product of the most extreme elements in the country- people like the American Nazi Party, who, even though their numbers were minuscule, were monitored and regarded as a threat by the government.  Now, the people inciting such treasonous, murderous rage are national leaders, elected by the Republican party and treated seriously by what passes for our mainstream media.

Isn't he cute?  The real Buzz Windrip, if you know who I mean

Huckabee plays his affable, Gomer Pyle role, while deliberately trying to bring about a violent rebellion against the country, carried out by ignorant, stupid, hate filled suckers, of which, unfortunately, we have a large supply.  He probably has no more chance of bringing the country down than Kim Jong Un does, but Kim is not an American, and at least the rest of us don't have to suffer the indignity of having to hear Kim trying to destroy the United States, and simultaneously shouting his patriotism at every opportunity.

The longer this goes on without opposition, the more horrible it is going to be when the time comes to set things right.  The utter refusal of the Democrats and the press to even dare discuss what is obviously happening here just makes it more likely that we, or our children, are facing a real rebellion from would-be right wing dictators, who condemn everyone else as a Hitler, while doing everything they can to follow Hitler's path.  I know you are not supposed to compare people to Hitler, but how close do they have to come before we face the obvious?  Huckabee and people like him are creating stormtroopers all over the country, and the answer of everyone with a real voice is just to turn away.

Well said, Green Eagle. It is popular now to hoard weapons to take on the US Government, while shouting their patriotism. Its treason.

Dear Mr. Eagle,

The well regulated militia was an alternative to a large standing army. Whether an all volunteer, large standing army is a good idea is a question worthy of a Green Eagle blog post. In any event, the notion that a random group of guys, even with assault rifles, can take on the US Armed Forces, which has fighter jets, bunker busting bombs and nuclear weapons, is a bit absurd.

I will note that, if you read the pertinent Federalist Papers you will discover that the founding fathers did not believe that it was even possible for the Federal government to assemble an army large enough to threaten the population. I guess they were very wrong about that, but as long as so many Americans insist on making a fetish out of the alleged will of the founding fathers, we will never be able to really talk about this issue.

I'll try to assemble some of the pertinent passages from the Federalist Papers and post them in the next couple of days.
