Today's Secession News

Almost blotted from the mainstream press by the East Coast elections yesterday was the fact that Coloradans in 11 counties decided to have themselves an electoral tantrum and vote to secede from the State.

How did that work out?  Well, the residents of five counties actually voted to secede:  Cheyenne, Phillips, Kit Carson, Washington and Yuma.  These five counties have a grand total of 29,405 residents (as of the 2010 census) or just over 1/2 of 1% of the population of Colorado.

The only county that really mattered in this whole nonsense was Weld County, home to the city of Greeley, and with a population of 252,825, far bigger than all of the rest of the secessionists put together.  In Weld County, voters crushed the bid for a new State by a vote of 58% to 42%.

The measure managed to win a total of 38,323 yes votes.  By comparison, a State Marijuana tax initiative has already gotten 650,000 yes votes with about 1,000,000 votes counted.

Naturally, this did not result in any introspection on the right.  Here, for example is a map featured at Gateway Pundit today:
The caption on this map was (I kid you not:)  "Counties in green voted today to secede from Colorado."

Maybe we do live on similar but separate planets.

Do they honestly think the Senate would welcome two more senators to dilute their take from lobbyist? Senate would never vote to admit it, 29k dingbats do not get to be a state and have an oustized influence on the nation. These people deserve to think they won something and then be body slammed by reality.

Yeesh. 29,000 people get to be a whole state, with two Senators and everything? Ludicrous. Well, Gingrich wanted to settle 13,000 Americans on the Moon and declare that a state. He may not be living on another planet, but he wants to.

If only to show these twits how ridiculous this is, maybe we should start a wave of secession/statehood drives for Democratic-leaning enclaves in red states -- Austin, NE Virginia, Gary IN, predominantly-black counties in Mississippi and Alabama, etc. Any of those would have a bigger population than "North Colorado".

As I've said before, if it works in Colorado, I am going to make my house a State, and appoint my two sons to be its Senators. How great to get them out of the house for six years.

Let them become a proctectorate like American Samoa and have a territorial governor appointed over them, take away their votes, eliminate all federal funding and charge them taxes to pay back all infrastructure built one their area. Additionally, make federal lands inaccessible to them and wall off the area so they can't escape the ghettos of their minds and bodies.

Gene, I'm all for that, but don't you think you're being a little too easy on them? How about a little waterboarding, and the cat of nine tails too?

I wish I were kidding about this.
