Jingoistic Republican Hypocrisy Reaches a World-Record High
Via Talking Points Memo, our beloved ex-congressman Newt Gingrich, speaking to some "Christian" jerk on TV about his serial adultery:
"Things happened." He didn't voluntarily engage in multiple incidents of adultery (while at the same time trying to destroy Bill Clinton over a single similar incident;) oh, no, it just happened to him when he was distracted by his love of our country.
Two lessons from this:
1. There is absolutely no end to Republicans' conviction that the greedy suckers who support them will swallow any lie rather than give up the prospect of more tax cuts.
2. No Conservative is ever, ever going to take responsibility for the consequences of their abominable behavior. It is only a matter of time before Newt explains to us how his adultery is actually Obama's fault.
"Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who is in the early stages of a presidential campaign, spoke in an interview with David Brody of the Christian Broadcasting Network about his history of adultery and divorces. And as Gingrich told it, he sought God's forgiveness -- and as for the events themselves, they were driven by how hard he was working and his great passion for America.
"There's no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate..."

In a way he's already said that. His "great passion for America" translates as a rage about having to share the country with anyone to the left of Mussolini.
' Darn it, I just wouldn't have betrayed my wife and been shown to be just another hypocritical dick if it weren't for them damn liberals! '
Also I get a strong whiff of a conceit that he feels he DESERVES to have a little fuckfun because he works so hard, and in his heart of darkness he doesn't really regret a damned thing.
