Events In Our Future?
I want to write briefly about two aspects of the current Trump nightmare that I have not seen discussed, or at least two predictions of where this may lead us.
First, consider this: The Trump administration has now reached a point of no return. The damage they have done to themselves will never be fully healed, even if somehow they hold on to power. No matter what happens from here out, there are massive numbers of Americans who will never trust them, and (legitimately so) will never give them the benefit of the doubt. It took them only four weeks to go from the normal honeymoon to this abysmal position.
Well, okay, but here's the problem: one more incident like the several we have already seen, and they will be wounded beyond cure. At that point, there is exactly one thing, and only one thing that could keep Trump in power: a war. So, we need to be vigilant for any signs that they are preparing for war, which in this case will not consist of military readiness, but in fomenting hatred among the American people, toward another country. They have already been sending up trial balloons about war with Mexico, Iran, North Korea and even China. They are looking for what they can get away with, and we must instantly be ready to stop them.
Now, my other comment has to do with behind-the-scenes Republican power grubbing. I'm sure that most of the people who read my blog agree with my belief that it is nonsense to think that Mike Pence was really as out of the loop as he is now pretending to be. So, if Trump's impeachment starts to look like a possibility, we are going to see a real war among Republicans.
On the one side will be Paul Ryan and his minions. Ryan will obviously want to see Pence destroyed along with Trump, because that will make him President. He can't do anything openly, because he has always done his dirty work behind the scenes, and then played the reluctant hero. On the other side will be all of the rest of the Republican 2020 hopefuls and their fellow travelers. They know that if Ryan squeezes his way into the White House, their chances in 2020 will evaporate, so they will do everything they can to see to it that Pence is protected.
This could be one of the most interesting political knife fights in history, and a great undercard to the Trump impeachment.

When Chris Wallace asked him if Flynn had discussed the new Obama sanctions when he called the Russian ambassador, he dodged and changed the subject, not answering, twice. Wallace asked a third time, and only then did Pence say no.
For some reason, he didn't want to respond. Or he could have delivered the talking points either of the two first times. I think it's because he knew the denial was false even then.
Now they must guard Pence's guilty knowledge as much as Trump's own involvement.
