COMEY MUST GO
As reported in the New Yorker, as well as various other media outlets:
Is there a person on earth that could not have been aware of the way the Trump campaign and Congressional Republicans would use Comey's unsupported insinuations?
In a classic example of Democratic party gutlessness, the Clinton campaign failed to call out Comey last summer, when he first used his position to deliver a long, factless diatribe against Hillary; a totally impermissable attack on her delivered as part of a statement exonerating her of any real wrongdoing in her use of e-mails. So, here he is again, back to take another drink from his polluted trough, this time in a blatant effort to destroy Hillary's campaign, less than two weeks before the election.
This man is one of the highest officials in the government, and he has used his position twice on behalf of a surrogate of a hostile foreign spy service. This is the sort of behavior that should end up with a government employee being sent to prison. He has no right, ever again, to participate in our national affairs, and I (hopelessly, I know) call on the President to demand his immediate resignation.
Update: And here is an account of what is really going on here:
Comey's claim that he just had to do it is a patent lie. This was a vicious political attack on Hillary Clinton, against both Justice department tradition and specific policy. This man has no right to stand at the head of our prime investigatory agency. He should have been kicked out last summer, and there is absolutely zero excuse for not doing so now.
"On Friday, James Comey, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, acting independently of Attorney General Loretta Lynch, sent a letter to Congress saying that the F.B.I. had discovered e-mails that were potentially relevant to the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s private server. Coming less than two weeks before the Presidential election, Comey’s decision to make public new evidence that may raise additional legal questions about Clinton was contrary to the views of the Attorney General, according to a well-informed Administration official. Lynch expressed her preference that Comey follow the department’s longstanding practice of not commenting on ongoing investigations, and not taking any action that could influence the outcome of an election, but he said that he felt compelled to do otherwise."

Update: And here is an account of what is really going on here:
"FBI Director James Comey was reportedly warned against notifying Congress about a batch of newly discovered emails with potential ties to Hillary Clinton’s private server.
According to the Washington Post, before issuing the letter to Congress that sent shock waves through the Clinton campaign Friday, Comey consulted senior Justice Department officials who advised him of the DOJ’s position “that we don’t comment on an ongoing investigation. And we don’t take steps that will be viewed as influencing an election.”
“Director Comey understood our position,” said one official, who spoke to the Post on the condition of anonymity. “It was conveyed to the FBI, and Comey made an independent decision to alert the Hill. He is operating independently of the Justice Department. And he knows it.”
The practice of avoiding any activity that could be perceived as an attempt to influence the results of an election is a long-held Justice Department tradition that, the the New Yorker reported, became an official practice four years ago thanks to a memo from then-Attorney General Eric Holder."
