They Are So Stupid That It's Hard to Wrap Your Mind Around It
Some of you may have heard of the recent "religious liberty" ballot initiative in the State of North Dakota. It was defeated, but if you think that will make the proponents of this sort of malicious garbage think twice about it, you are very naive. Here is the text of the initiative:
The main thing I have to say about this is that these stupid jackasses came very close to making Sharia law legal in North Dakota. This while they scream about how the Democrats are supposedly in league with Muslim terrorists to impose Sharia law in the United States. This is an act of such colossal lack of self-awareness that it gives new meaning to the word "hypocrisy."
"Government may not burden a person’s or religious organization’s religious liberty. The right to act or refuse to act in a manner motivated by a sincerely held religious belief may not be burdened unless the government proves it has a compelling governmental interest in infringing the specific act or refusal to act and has used the least restrictive means to further that interest. A burden includes indirect burdens such as withholding benefits, assessing penalties, or an exclusion from programs or access to facilities."

Hell, I hardly ever go to church, but I do have a strongly held religious belief, I believe you should not kill, just like it says in the bible. So, wouldn't it be OK for me to shelter the most violent criminals and obstruct attempts at their arrest since the state will be trying "kill" them eventually. By that law I don't think I could have been charged for openly helping Timothy McVeigh.
Ohhh...I see, as long as it's a Christian belief.
