22!!!!!!!

While most of us have been preoccupied with lesser things, let me note that the Cleveland Indians won their 22nd game in a row yesterday, setting a new American League record.  They are now only four games behind the all time record of the New York Giants, set in 1916, of 26 games without a loss, although that streak was interrupted by a tie game resulting from a rainout.
Yay, Tribe.  Go for five more, and break a hundred year old record.

I can remember not that long ago when the Indians were the laughingstock of professional baseball.  Not any more, I guess.

As long as they've gone longer without a World Series Championship than any other MLB team, they'll still be a laughingstock.

Meanwhile, enjoy my favorite baseball game of all time.

Kansas City 4, Cleveland 3. It stops at 22.

Why does Cleveland have a grinning post-lobotomy patient on its uniforms? That Wahoo image is insulting.

Were you there for Ten-Cent Beer Night?

Here's a good song.

The Night Pat Murphy Died (Some versions use Paddy Murphy).

"Oh the night that Pat Murphy died, is a night I'll never forget
Some of the boys got loaded drunk, and they ain't got sober yet;"

Sad to say, I live in Los Angeles, so I can't attend games in Cleveland. I grew up there, however, and have never lost my dedication to the tribe.

As for Chief Wahoo, just for your information, he dates to about 1948, when Bill Veeck owned the team. If you ever see his representation from those days, you will see that it is far more racially stereotyped than the Chief Wahoo we've had for the last half century or so. All I can say is that the people in Cleveland love Chief Wahoo, and he is a big seller of merchandise not just in Cleveland, but all over the country. I see people here in LA all the time wearing Chief Wahoo hats, and when I talk to them, I discover that they have never been in Cleveland in their lives- a lot of them don't even know that he is the symbol of a baseball team.

Now, I must add that, having left the Cleveland area when I went to college, and essentially never lived there again, I suspect that a grinning lobotomy patient may be the perfect symbol of the people that stayed in Cleveland. But I still root for the Tribe, all these years later. Just call me crazy, I guess.

Doesn't Cleveland still have pro sports' biggest laughingstock in the Browns?

You know, when the Cavs won the NBA championship last year, and the Tribe made it to game 7 of the World Series, I thought that this was God's way of making up to Cleveland for having to have had the Republican convention where Trump was nominated. Unfortunately, I thought, even God didn't have enough power to do anything about the Browns.
