The Silver Lining

In a very dark cloud:

I think that the utter, brain-dead fools who make up the Republican base were going to go on for eternity, denying what was obvious to anyone who can put two thoughts together.  Maybe the only way to put a stop to it all was to let them have exactly the government they have been screaming for, and let them see what would happen.

They didn't even get it when their halfway lunatic Republican Bush government brought them a three trillion dollar war of aggression and (but for the grace of Barack Obama) a massive depression.  Well, this time they went whole hog.

And let's give a big thank you to Donald Trump, who showed the world in just four weeks what Conservative government is all about.  This way, we won't have to wait four years to return to sanity; or twelve years and fifty million deaths, as was the case with the Nazis.

One can't help but think of the H L Mencken quote: "Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard." Ironically, the first place I encountered this quote myself was on various conservative blogs, whose owners and regular commenters have, for the most part, since revealed themselves to be rabid Trump supporters. (I think they were so fond of the aforementioned quote because it fed into their insufferable superiority complexes, and attendant delusions that they and they alone knew how society should be governed. A lot of them were big fans of the idea of Catholic monarchy or theocracy, which made their later love of Trump doubly ironic.)

I'm not sure they're capable of learning lessons or taking responsibility. Everything that goes wrong I'm at least the first year of the Trump admin will be blamed on Barack Obama. Anything bad after that will be blamed on Senate Dems or Trumos successor.
Trump Just put out a stupid poll with a question about "what if Republicans had obstructed Obama the way Democrats are obstructing me?" and I bet his followers buy that construct completely.

Remember how Conservatives tried to blame 9/11 on Bill Clinton?

I saw a poll a little while ago that showed that a slight majority of Republicans blamed the US government's botched job dealing with Hurricane Katrina on Obama.
