Did GOP, Obama actions prompt Isaac?
Author links hurricane to policies toward Israel
TAMPA, Fla. – Could Hurricane Isaac’s disrupting of the Republican convention here be tied to recent policy decisions by the GOP leadership and Barack Obama?
That question is being raised by Bible prophecy expert William Koenig, whose book, “Eye to Eye: Facing the Consequences of Dividing Israel,” links catastrophic hurricanes hitting the U.S. with changes in policy toward Israel."
Of Course! Why didn't I think of that! It explains so much!
"Koenig points out that on Tuesday, the day Isaac formed as a tropical storm, the Republican platform committee voted to add a “two-state” position pertaining to Israel for formal convention approval. But former Sen. Jim Talent, R-Mo., quoted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to demonstrate that the original platform language was consistent with the Israeli position."
And what could be more important to right wingers than subsuming our national policy to the will of a foreign country? Why, they have always been open to letting other countries dictate our conduct, haven't they?
“This is the second straight Republican convention postponed due to a major hurricane,” points out Koenig. “And this is the third straight Republican convention that became secondary news due to a hurricane. Bush was pressuring Israel during the times of the 2004 and 2008 conventions.”
Koenig links all three convention disruptions to platform committee decisions to support further division of the land of Israel to pave the way for the creation of a Palestinian state."
Schizophrenia, maybe? Sounds like it to me.
"Koenig also sees significance in the fact that Isaac, the name of Abraham’s son and Jacob’s father, is on a trajectory to hit New Orleans on the seventh anniversary of Katrina, putting gulf oil at risk."
Aah, now we know the real Republican concern! If we don't do what the right wing government of Israel wants, oil profits will suffer. That would really be a disaster of biblical proportions.
"Katrina, the deadliest and costliest hurricane in U.S. history, hit Aug. 29, 2005, after President George W. Bush urged Israel to withdraw from Gaza. Israeli rabbis and U.S. senators have made note of the historical links between calamitous U.S. storms and U.S. pressures on Israel to divide the land."
Israeli rabbis. Delusional Israeli rabbis, who think that God would send a natural disaster to punish millions of people because of a plank in the Republican platform, but who stood by and did nothing when our military murdered a million innocent Iraqis. No, that was just fine with God. But the Republican platform? Now that was going too far.
"Earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, even terrorist attacks have hit America often within 24 hours of calls by U.S. officials for Israel to withdraw from historically Jewish land.
What does this have to do with Bible prophecy?"
Nothing.
"It goes back to Genesis and God’s pledge to bless those who bless the children of Israel and curse those who curse them. It’s a prophecy that many Christians and Jews believe is behind the fall of all the world’s empires of the past. That is a prophecy that has seen every empire of the world come and go – yet Israel remains."
Well, actually, it didn't remain. It has been gone for two thousand years. That is, if you are referring to a theocratic Jewish state created by the guys in the bible. The current secular state of Israel has nothing to do with that, and except for a lunatic fringe, no one in Israel claims that it does.
And by the way, this jackass says "That is a prophecy that has seen every empire of the world come and go..." I wonder if that applies, say, to the Song dynasty of China, in 1279, destroyed by the Mongols, or the Iroquois nation, essentially wiped out by European colonial wars. I wonder what they did to curse the Jews, which, I suspect neither the Chinese nor the Iroquois had ever heard of.
But wait- there's more!
"...the Obama campaign has refused to distance itself from a radical female rabbi’s support for his re-election bid. Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb is one of 613 rabbis pledging support for Obama under the name “Rabbis for Obama.” But she has called for a boycott against Israeli products, has dined with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and was the first American rabbi to visit Tehran."
The horror! One of 613 rabbis who signed a petition for Obama said something that right wingers don't like! A perfect reason for the almighty God of Justice to smite millions of people who had nothing to do with any of that!
Well, there you go. I'm too lazy to come up with any more sarcasm about this. Here we have a perfect example of the delusional thinking that passes for political analysis on the right. There is no possibility that rational people can reach any sort of agreement with people who believe this sort of thing. This is a thought process devoid of both reason and human decency. It is a force that has come near to destroying the Western world on many a previous occasion, and here it is again.
