It's Whinin' Time In Romney Country
After spending several months running a campaign against Obama which has consisted almost entirely of telling lies about him, Tough Guy Mitt, who can be so strong when other people's jobs are at stake, seems to be close to tears concerning his own would-be job.
Here's Mitt today:
"Romney To Obama: Please Stop Attacking My Business Record, Taxes
Mitt Romney, battered by Democratic attacks over his Bain Capital record and taxes, is calling on President Obama to agree to a truce over his business career.
“Our campaign would be — helped immensely if we had an agreement between both campaigns that we were only going to talk about issues and that attacks based upon — business or family or taxes or things of that nature,” Romney said...
Romney said he would prefer the campaigns “only talk about issues,” and claimed that “our ads haven’t gone after the president personally"
So, here's the English translation of the above: Romney, after claiming that his business history was the main reason to vote for him, is now asking for a "truce" in which Obama agrees to never say a word about Romney's real past as a rich corporate vulture, and in return Romney agrees to stop telling lies about Obama every day.
Oh wait- no, Romney didn't say a word about his endless lying smears of Obama. That is perfectly okay. Here's the real deal: any time an Obama campaign strategy is working, Obama agrees to abandon it; in return, he gets...nothing, not even a commitment from Romney to abandon the lowest sort of lies. Romney is perfectly free to use billions in corporate money to spread any kind of vicious distortion about Obama he can think of; that is well within the bounds of acceptable campaigning. Of course, Romney doesn't have any record of dealing with the national economy, so by agreeing to not talk about Romney's history in business and as governor of Massachusetts, Obama would be basically committing himself to say nothing about Romney, while Republicans would go on calling Obama a Communist Muslim terrorist bent on destroying the United States, and far worse before this is over.
Now, that's the kind of election that Republicans could really get behind. Coincidentally, it's the only kind they can possibly win, with this loser as their candidate.
Really, like any bully, Romney is nothing but a whining crybaby when things don't go his way. Just what we need. If we are going to be stuck with a Gordon Gecko-like corporate crook in the White House, at least can we have one who won't go running home to mama when things don't go his way?
