The Shadow of Death

Image
T What you are looking at is the "crowd" that showed up to see Donald Trump today, in Florida. This makes the Tulsa rally look like a free Rolling Stones concert in Central Park. This is what he has come to.  I cannot see how he can recover from this, short of massive criminality and subversion of the law.  He is, of course, getting around to that already, but if this is the famous "enthusiasm" that he claims his base has, he had better get going on the cheating.

Rage

In lieu of a wingnut wrapup today, I would like to focus on a single article from Town Hall, one of the most widely read right wing websites in existence.  It is by a guy named Kurt Schlichter, whose writings have appeared many times here.  Today, though, something has changed.  Here are some excerpts: "Democrat Liars Are Barely Even Trying to Fool Us Anymore" Because we all know that it is the Democrats that are doing all the lying. "You watch the freakish Rep. Jerry Nadler mouth off to AG William Barr" Democrats asking questions of a Republican Attorney General in a Congressional hearing is "mouthing off," because they have no right to speak in public.  And they are freakish.  More freakish than Donald Trump or Mitch McConnell?  Hardly seems possible, but whatever. "The next question is how someone as lumpy as The Nad ever managed to pull off his escape from Willie Wonka’s factory. Maybe he hid in a dumpster of garbage and it worked because no one n...

Change in Tone

This little video, from Media Matters, is one of the greatest illustrations of the sycophantic irresponsibility of the mainstream press in regard to Trump (and for that matter, all Republicans.)  I suggest you take a look at it. Note: for some reason Blogger is refusing to recognize the embed code for this video.  Here is a link to the youtube video:  https://youtu.be/ihuOXs8FLgw In fact, we have all known, since early in his Presidency, that Trump is never going to change his "tone."  He is a mentally deficient bully filled with hatred and self-love, and he is incapable of being anything but the subhuman monster that he is, except when the people surrounding him manage to get him to focus on the danger he is in of ending up in prison.  And that never lasts more than a day or two.  But still the press is trumpeting his "change in tone," while he sends unmarked troops into cities to attack peaceful demonstrators and kidnap them off the street, and a j...

News That Doesn't Matter, I Guess

We hear this today: "A federal judge on Thursday ordered President Trump's ex-lawyer Michael Cohen released from prison to home confinement, saying the Justice Department's move to take him back into custody earlier this month was retaliation for writing a book about his former boss." Within one week, we have now seen unmarked men in full military equipment abduct innocent protesters in the streets of an American city, and now we are treated to the sight of a man being thrown in prison to prevent him from revealing criminal information about the President of the United States.  Add this to the concentration camps full of children, the perversion of the Presidency for personal gain, using the Presidency to allow convicted criminals to go free in return for keeping their mouths shut, fabricating false charges against political opponents on a regular basis and savaging the rule of law to prevent the President's crimes from being revealed and punished. In whos...

Wingnut Wrapup

Image
For a few days there, it seemed like the wingnuts had fallen into a deep depression.  They didn't even seem to have the energy to come up with new lies, and were just repeating the same old boring ones.  Well, I guess inspired by Donald Trump's campaign of unprovoked violence against protesters, they seem to be snapping out of it, and are all of a sudden trying to make up for their recent failure.  So, there's a lot today, although once again, there is much more I didn't get to. Before it's News:  "Engineered Llama Antibodies Neutralize COVID-19 Virus" Amazing.  And the answer was right in front of us the whole time. Before it's News:  "Find Out Who This Snake Messiah Is Who The Jews Worship And Who The Jews Are Expecting To Arrive Very Soon To Set Up Their New Jew World Order. Great Video!" And to think that Green Eagle, who regards himself as fairly well informed, never knew that Jews worship a snake.  I'll tell you what: Give...

A Wingnut Flash from the Past

Image
Well, perhaps the greatest idiocy in world history. I came across this article a few days ago.  It was written during the height of the Mueller investigation.  I thought it might interest some people, representing as it does one of the seminal stages in the development of the insane QAnon theories which are more influential in the Republican party every day, as its grip on reality decays.  Sixty Republican candidates for Congress this year have indicated at least a partial support for QAnon idiocy, so this is no longer something to laugh about.  Well, here it is: "How Mueller & President Trump are Pulling the Biggest Sting in History "Trump made a shocking promise to Clinton in the event he got elected. “If I win, I’m going to instruct my attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation…we’re going to have a special prosecutor,” Trump said. Clinton responded, “It’s just awfully good that someone with the temperament of Donald Tr...

Just To Be Clear About Trump and Ghislane Maxwell

Because once again, no one seems to be willing to state the obvious truth.  Trump was not being unaccountably nice to Maxwell- he has never been unaccountably nice to anyone in his life.  He was sending her a clear signal that, as with Roger Stone, if she just keeps her mouth shut, he will take care of her.  Just one more action of a mob boss want-to-be. Update:   Just to be fair, since I wrote this I have seen a couple of other people stating this obvious truth, such as this example from Susie Madrak at Crooks and Liars.

Edmund Pettus

Image
John Lewis leading the Selma civil rights march that almost cost him his life There have been suggestions in the last few days to rename the bridge in Alabama where John Lewis was nearly beaten to death by sheriff's officers, before he went on to an almost legendary life as a Congressman and fighter for civil rights. The bridge is currently named the Edmund Pettus bridge.  I have heard that name practically my whole live, but never had a clue who Edmund Pettus was.  Today I decided to find out.  Here's a historical account from The Smithsonian Magazine: Edmund Pettus "Pettus was regarded as a hero in his native state and adopted hometown of Selma, a lawyer and statesman who served as a U.S. senator." Well, that's nice.  Naming bridges after heroes, a long tradition.  And what did he do as "a lawyer and a statesman" to earn the respect of his people? "...he was also a decorated Confederate general and a leader in the Alabama Ku...

Your Mainstream Press

There are three stories that represent the major threat to the American people these days, as far as I am concerned.  One, of course, is the Coronavirus.  The other two both involve Donald Trump.  The first is his knowledge that Vladimir Putin is paying bounties for the murder of American troops, and not only doing nothing about it, but continuing to take action to aid Putin while hurting the United States by further damaging our relationships with our allies, and pulling troops from Afghanistan. That is giving aid and comfort to the enemy, i.e. treason.  The second is his using unmarked, unidentified thugs in full military gear to seize peaceful demonstrators from the streets and abduct them.  That is fascism. I just looked at the Washington Post.  Plenty of stories about Coronavirus; so many that you get sick of hearing about it.  As for the other two?  Not a word.  These revelations about the betrayal of our country by the President of t...

Rehearsal for the American Gestapo

Image
The original Gestapo You've all heard the news from Portland by now.  But once again, Trump is relying on people's inability to face what is really happening, and dismissing this as just one more stunt to enrage his base. From the Washington Post: "When several men in green military fatigues and generic “police” patches sprang out of an unmarked gray minivan in front of Mark Pettibone in the early hours of Wednesday morning, his first instinct was to run.   He did not know whether the men were police or far-right extremists, who frequently don militarylike outfits and harass left-leaning protesters in Portland, Ore. The 29-year-old resident said he made it about a half-block before he realized there would be no escape.   Then, he sank to his knees, hands in the air.   “I was terrified,” Pettibone told The Washington Post. “It seemed like it was out of a horror/sci-fi, like a Philip K. Dick novel. It was like being preyed upon.”   He was deta...

Happy Talk

I'm not suggesting we get all giddy about this, given the absolutely unbelievable amount of vote rigging and smearing that is going to be coming from the Republicans and their sociopathic billionaire supporters this fall, but it is still a fun read.  From an article at Daily Kos, the results of a new Quinnipiac University poll, showing Trump losing to Biden by 15%, and now behind Biden on the last issue he was still ahead on, his "handling" of the economy.  Quinnipiac is a highly rated polling operation, which in my memory tends to favor Republicans by a point or two, so it is not to be taken lightly.  As I say, the next four months are going to be possibly the most ghastly in our political history, so nothing is certain, but for once I am recommending that people read an article because it is happy, not scary.  Go ahead, you will enjoy it.

Trump's School Gamble

Image
Donald Trump has always been one to make the big gamble.  It's why he started out with an inherited fortune and went bankrupt six time.  It's why his "university" and steak company and winery were failures, why his diplomatic efforts with North Korea and Iran were such total disasters, and it's why he ended up in deep debt to the Russians. But in a way, of course, what Donald Trump does is not gambling, because his whole life has taught him that he never has to pay a price for his failure.  He always has found a way to climb back out of the muck, and in a society that values money and celebrity more than anything, he has always been a winner, even though he always loses. Now, Trump is taking another gamble that may be the biggest one of all, in absolute confidence that as always, he will never pay a price.  Trump pretty well sees that unless the economy doesn't mount some significant signs of a comeback before election day, he is doomed, and will soon ...

Wingnut Wrapup

Image
Boy. I can't wait to see how these idiots try to spin Trump's commuting of Roger Stone's sentence- maybe the most overt corrupt act ever committed by an American President.  But first, let's take a look at a representative of the mainstream press, the Washington Post.  I don't mean to single them out; they are getting so much attention today because I subscribe to them, but they are indicative of the way the mainstream press has covered Presidential elections in this country since Ronald Reagan, and despite all of the damage Trump has done, it looks like they are gearing up to do it again. Eugene Scott, Washington Post:  "Trump’s defeats at the Supreme Court could help shore up his support from evangelicals" Remember "Good news for John McCain?"  Everything was good news for John McCain until he lost.  Well, here it is again, 2020 version.  Even defeats mean that Trump is winning.  Expect this to be a major mainstream media theme from now to...

Renaming a Football Team

So, today, the team formerly known as the Washington Redskins finally gave in to pressure from rich people, and promised to rename themselves. I have heard several suggestions for new names, most having a somewhat native American character.  However, Green Eagle thinks this would be wrong.  I suggest that the team pick a name that unites all people, regardless of race; a name that features something that all people have.  The name I have come up with is the Washington Assholes.
