Impeachment 2.0?

God knows Trump has earned it a hundred times over, and in light of the Republican party's corrupt refusal to hold him responsible for his crimes, it may be the only real tool the Democrats have to set him apart in history from all other Presidents.

I have always made my position clear:  Impeachment is a responsibility of Congress when a President is as treasonous and lawless as Donald Trump.  It must be done because it is the right thing to do, regardless of Republicans' malicious refusal to face reality.  However, I have a warning, and a proposal:

If a second impeachment becomes necessary (something which I think could very well be occurring now) the Democrats in the House must carry out their hearings in the midst of the electoral campaign, regardless of the screaming of Republicans, but they must not actually pass an impeachment resolution until after election day.  And here is why:  I am afraid that, if Democrats impeach Trump before election day, the Republicans in the Senate may just be cynical and self-serving enough to go ahead and remove him, a week or two weeks before the election.  That will leave them with Mike Pence as their replacement candidate, who will be supported by a multi-billion dollar, massive ad campaign which will portray him as Just Like Joe Biden, only with added racism.  And I believe that strategy might work.

Trump fully deserves a second impeachment, but he also must be removed at the ballot box.  If the actual impeachment vote is put off until after the election, we can have both.  Which will still be far too good for the guy; nothing short of spending the rest of his life in prison will be close to good enough, but it would be something.
