An Appropriate Response to the North Carolina Democracy Crisis
If you follow the news, you will know that Republicans in North Carolina have so mangled the laws there, that it is no longer considered a democracy. I would like to suggest a perfectly legal action that President Obama could take to punish these subhumans for their behavior.
Do you know what Schedule 1 drugs are? They are supposedly the most harmful drugs that people can consume; the distribution of them comes with long prison sentences. The requirement to be placed on Schedule 1 is as follows:
The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.
The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.
There is no drug on earth that more fully fits those criteria than nicotine, the agricultural mainstay of North Carolina. It has only been the lack of political will for generation after generation that has prevented the obvious truth from being recognized.
Enough, already. President Obama, place Tobacco on schedule 1. The arguments about that action destroying people's livelihoods is as idiotic as an argument that we should legalize heroin because criminalizing it hurts people who want to sell it. Do it. It is the right thing to do, for reasons of simple truth, and it would be a nice parting gift to the people of North Carolina, who can just get off their asses and find a decent way to make a living.

"There are also a number of substances that are abused but not regulated under the CSA. Alcohol and tobacco, for example, are specifically exempt from control by the CSA." [The CSA is the Controlled Substances Act.]
Here's where the law says tobacco cannot be a controlled substance.
It's illegal for Obama to do what you want him to do.
Poor, poor bird.
