Were There People...

...in the world during the 1930's who watched with horror as they saw and understood what was going on in Germany?  Sure there were; just not enough of them to do what was necessary to avoid 50 million deaths.  I suspect that an awful lot of people around the world are watching the United States these days with the same sense of impending doom.

Nice thought, huh?

Hell Eagle in Iraq it's already come to fruition. No sense of impending doom just actual doom.

Is there a chart that correlates gun ownership with political stance? I guess I'm hoping the NRA types would be too independent to jump to the Koch Bros commands...

Poll P. although it doesn't really address the question of the Koch brothers, this might give you some answers. http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2014/07/15/the-demographics-and-politics-of-gun-owning-households/

Mr. Eagle,

Whoa there. This is my favorite blog and I am sorely disappointed when I check and there's nothing new. BUT, to compare the US now and Nazi Germany in the 1930s is insane. It is bringing up the Hitler comparison and that's always a loser. The more appropriate comparison to the US today is the US in the 1930s. Every heard of the Business Plot?

I am sorry, but I believe the likelihood of the United States turning into a fascist dictatorship is very high, and once it is established, there is no way of controlling what its evil masters will do with their power. I believe that the kind of leaders that the Republican party dredges up- Dick Cheney, Ted Cruz, et. al. are fully comparable to the likes of Hermann Goehring and Joseph Goebbels, and would have no qualms about stooping to anything, no matter how abominable, to achieve their ends. Ad please do not forget: Hitler did not have a couple thousand nuclear weapons. If he did, most of the world population would have been wiped out.

And Joseph, I really appreciate your presence here, so can I clarify my feelings a little more: What I am talking about is the people in the world in 1935 or 1936 that could only stand by and watch a powerful country go stark raving mad. That is what I am afraid is happening here, right now. If the German government had looked around in 1936 and gone "wait...let's not get carried away here" we wouldn't regard them the way we do. Well, there is no sign that the Republicans and their rich backers have any intention to back off, and I am truly afraid of what the result will be.

"What there", joseph? Any idea of the number of people in the Middle East and Central Asia who've died over the last 14 years because of the American Military?

I think a 1930's Nazi Germany comparisson might not be so far-fetched and "insane" to the Iraqis...
