But His E-Mails!!!
Here I am, ragging on the Washington Post again, as my chosen representative of the presumably more acceptable part of the Mainstream media. Oh sure, they are careful to balance their news coverage with "opinion" pieces by the likes of right wing liars like Hugh Hewitt and Mark Theissen, but still, they haven't sunk to the intolerable level of degradation which makes That Newspaper In New York too revolting to read, so sorry, Mr. Bezos, here you go, in the target again.
Today's occasion for my disgusted rant: HUNTER BIDEN'S LAPTOP!!!!, Or the Scourge of Evil that will Unmask them All, just like something out of the Lord of the Rings.
What follows is a bunch of what the Washington Post has to say about this object, more radioactive than the Elephant's Foot at Chernobyl. Read it and weep, folks:
"The contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop computer have sparked debate and controversy since the New York Post and other news organizations in the closing month of the 2020 presidential campaign reported stories based on data purportedly taken from it."
No they didn't spark debate and controversy; they only sparked Republican smears, which are enough of a substitute for debate at the Post. Remember that we have never heard a word in all this time about any verifiably criminal or objectionable content on this laptop.
"Thousands of emails purportedly from the laptop computer of Hunter Biden, President Biden’s son..."
"Purportedly." I hardly think I need dwell on what it means when this particular word is used in a situation like this, but to be brief, "purportedly" here means "without a shred of evidence." Good enough, however, for the Washington Post to build a thousand word smear around.
"...are authentic communications that can be verified through cryptographic signatures from Google and other technology companies, say two security experts who examined the data at the request of The Washington Post."
"Purported" e-mails, let me remind you. More of what these two security experts really had to say will be found below, mixed in with a devastating blizzard of unverified accusations.
"The verifiable emails are a small fraction of 217 gigabytes of data provided to The Post on a portable hard drive by Republican activist Jack Maxey..."
Provided by Republican activist Jack Maxey. Who happens to be "former co-host of Steve Bannon’s “War Room” show." Is there a reader out there that would believe one word that this jerk has to say? This should be the point where any decent reporter shoves this guy out of a fiftieth story window and forgets that he ever existed, but no, the Post is just getting started.
"The vast majority of the data — and most of the nearly 129,000 emails it contained — could not be verified by either of the two security experts who reviewed the data for The Post..."
Nothing could be verified. Don't you think that this might be the point that an honest news source might forget about the whole thing? Answer, No, it isn't.
"The experts found the data had been repeatedly accessed and copied by people other than Hunter Biden over nearly three years..."
"People other than Hunter Biden" being a long list of Republican operatives with an endless history of spreading lies and smears.
"Most of the data obtained by The Post lacks cryptographic features that would help experts make a reliable determination of authenticity...In their examinations, Green and Williams found evidence that people other than Hunter Biden had accessed the drive and written files to it, both before and after the initial stories in the New York Post and long after the laptop itself had been turned over to the FBI."
"people other than Hunter Biden had accessed the drive and written files to it" Who knows if any of it is real? Or really, who cares? But still, all of this deserves the utmost publicity the Washington Post can provide, in an article that takes this utter garbage with complete seriousness. While the previous President and his people continue trying to overthrow our government in an open brazen act of treason, which does not seem to provoke any particular alarm at the Post.
"The security experts who examined the data for The Post struggled to reach definitive conclusions about the contents as a whole, including whether all of it originated from a single computer or could have been assembled from files from multiple computers and put on the portable drive."
They "struggled..." i.e. they could find nothing. Maybe you should have stated that openly? Maybe the data was placed on the laptop's hard drive. Who knows? Who cares?
"...the lack of what experts call a “clean chain of custody” undermined Green’s and Williams’s ability to determine the authenticity of most of the drive’s contents. The drive is a mess,” Green said...“From a forensics standpoint, it’s a disaster,” Williams said."
I.e. no judge less corrupt than, say, Brett Kavanaugh or Clarence Thomas, would let it within a mile of his court. Not enough of a disaster, however, to prevent the Washington Post from using this utterly worthless trash to attempt to destroy the sitting President of the United States, in a time of world crisis, and replace him with a traitor in league with the genocidal dictator that is causing that crisis.
Now, let me make one thing clear, and to me it is the most important takeaway from this whole sordid story, even though it is what the Washington Post decided to leave out of it, not what was included. At no point did the Post, or Maxey or anyone of the hundreds of other Republican smear merchants who have worked on this story manage to reveal a single e-mail from Hunter Biden that shows criminality, corruption or anything else outside the bounds of the normal business activity of the rich. Not a single thing.
And let us put this in context by taking a second to remember Whitewater, Benghazi, Her e-mails, adrenochrome and a hundred other Republican would-be smears that the members of the mainstream press knew to be absolute lies from the first day they heard about them, and yet promoted for months, with disastrous consequences.
So, to summarize the case of this shocking evidence so far:
The chain of custody of this laptop, passing through many Republican hands after purportedly belonging to Hunter Biden, is terminally damaged beyond its ever being admitted as evidence in any kind of court case.
The data on this laptop had been repeatedly accessed and copied in the intervening time, likely by enemies of Biden and his father.
In any case, the e-mails analyzed can only be described as "purportedly" from Hunter Biden's laptop.
The analysts could not even determine if the data came from this computer, or from numerous other unknown computers.
And on top of all of this, and surely more importantly, Biden's enemies, and their collaborators in the mainstream press, could not, in a year and a half, find one single thing on the laptop that could be construed to indicate bad behavior on the part of the Bidens.
Yet, the story marches on, at the highest level of supposed journalism in this country. And that is why the corrupt, treasonous Republican party continues to win elections in the United States. The press did not learn one damned thing from the Trump era about the damage they cause when they ally themselves with criminals, and they seem satisfied to continue helping the criminals destroy our country.
Note: This story is just as much a piece of garbage as the stuff I report on at Wingnut Wrapup, and so like those tales, I will not dignify it with a link. God knows, if you really care, you can find your way easily enough to the Post, where they are still trumpeting this garbage.
