What I've Learned from the First Two Days of Impeachment II

First of all, let's be clear about this:  Trump intended to have Mike Pence murdered.  Yes, the President of the United States tried to precipitate the murder of the Vice President, and not just any Vice President, but one who was the worst kind of sycophantic toady for four years until he refused at the last moment to destroy himself in Trump's insane plot to steal the Presidency.  We have heard that Trump intended to "appoint" Mike Flynn to be the new Vice President, despite this being totally illegal, and that Flynn would have gone along with wrecking the certification of Biden's win.

Boy, whatever our historical inadequacies might be, that is a first for the United States.

Second, the only reason that this plot failed is that Trump is too stupid to pull off any real scheme.  That's why every time he has gotten his hands on a large sum of money, the only thing he has ever done with it is to finance his next bankruptcy.  If it weren't for Trump's stupidity, we would be living in a fascist dictatorship today.

Third, it would have suited Trump just fine to have much of the Congressional leadership murdered along with Pence, to put the fear of God into anyone who might think of standing up to him in the future, and to make his ascendency to dictator simpler.

And fourth, the Republican leadership and their 74 million brain dead followers are just fine with that.

After yesterday's presentation, I can't understand why anybody would not want Trump convicted by the Senate; after today's I do not believe he should ever be let out of a maximum security prison.  He is by far the worst criminal to have ever wormed his way into power in this country, and yet his fellow Republicans are just fine with that.  As I have said before, the Republicans ceased being a political party decades ago and voluntarily turned themselves into a criminal conspiracy; the last four years we even got a Mafia Don to go along with it, albeit a really cheesy one.  Again, we're just lucky he was such a bad mob boss, because the will was certainly there.

So, once ninety percent of the Republicans in the Senate vote to leave this monster at large, where do we go from there?  Because until they are destroyed like the vermin they are, they will keep going at it.  And I am afraid I don't have an answer to that question.

And more:  Here is a story from Daily Kos about Trump's (as usual incompetent but fully intentional) attempt to have Mike Pence murdered.

Trump told the crowd, "Go to the Capitol and I'll be there with you." The crowd went, he went to the White House. Why didn't he go with them, like he promised? Because he knew there would be a riot and danger. In 1863, at the Battle of Gettysburg, Lee had directed Jeb Stuart to circle around the Union forces and attack from the rear. Custer, yes that Custer, saw the Confederate forces and yelled to his men, "Let's go, you wolverines." Let's go, not you go. He led his men. Say what you will about Custer, he did not lack for courage. And now we have a fabulist, sociopathic, sadistic, narcissist who is also completely gutless. And people WORSHIP him. What is the matter with those people?

God only knows, Joseph. I've been trying to figure it out for fifty years now, and I don't have a clue.
