Just a Brief Impeachment Note

I have the impeachment trial on in the background while I am working today.  The first Trump defense lawyer is speaking now, and I want to say that this is one of the worst arguments by an attorney that I have ever heard, full of irrelevancies, pathetic jingoism, flat jokes and statements that the most ignorant legislator could see through, if only they wanted to.  Given the stakes of this trial, to Trump and to the entire country, this is a grotesque demonstration of how little right, how little justice, lies on the side of the Republicans.

Not that it will make any difference; the Republicans don't give a damn about justice, law, this country or common human decency, so we know what they are going to do.  But this incoherent, amateurish babble is a true sign of how little decency lies on the Republican side, not just in this trial but in the country as a whole.

Trump is gone in disgrace, but his malicious minions carry on.  The fight is not over.  The fight against evil, unfortunately, is never over.

Well, a couple of minutes later, and the guy is now resorting to threatening specific Senators with retribution from Trump supporters if they do not vote the way Trump wants, and he is barely trying to hide the threats.  Legal argument, Republican style.  It's all they've got.

When you are in a cult, one of the things they do to break you down is to make you do and say things that are stupid and embarrassing or you risk banishment.

This trial looks like that.

They're going to make a lot of shit arguments that they know are shit, and then Trump is going to revel in the fact that they all had to eat his shit, and pretend the sky is green and that this is all fine, then vote to find him innocent, which they all know he is not.

When you follow a Trump, at some point you get so debased that the only way forward is to keep following him. All your bridges have been burned. If you fight back, you're sent to the cornfield.

You know, I have always believed that Trump's lying is actually a form of his favorite activity, bullying people. Nothing demeans them more than making them repeat your claims which they know are false, and nothing really reduces them to your inferior as thoroughly.

I have it on good authority that the Trump defense team is going for broke tomorrow.

Castor will keep the audience riveted and distracted with card tricks.
Schoen's grade school daughter will demonstrate her tap dancing skills, dressed as Little Orphan Annie.

After lunch they will conduct a seance.

They will wrap up by showing videos of Castor's summer vacation.

Let's see the House managers match that.

Well, it would beat their performance so far.
