An Exercise in Futility

I started this blog in the Spring of 2008.  That's somewhere about seven and a half years ago.

This is my 4,000th post.  And the country is crazier and more filled with hatred than ever.  Maybe I should just switch to posting pictures of Corgis, like this one from The Daily Corgi:

No point in linking to the site, because this photo, from a few days ago, is the last one that this blogger posted before suspending posting.  I guess maybe the Corgis didn't help bring people to their senses either.

Now we have an out and out racist, promoting violence and oppression toward other groups, leading the Republican pack, and the more disgusting he acts, the stronger he seems to get.  And if, by some sick, cosmic joke he wins the Republican nomination, we will see billions of dollars spent smearing his Democratic opponent.  The people who support him are so past the point of being reached by reason, or any appeal to human decency, that it is foolish to even try.  They will go to their graves as the hate and greed filled monsters they have become, no matter what we do.

It's a pretty bleak prospect.  Life in America has even beaten down the Corgi lady.  I'm still going, but for the life of me, I don't know why.

I’m not sure the establishment candidate – Bush – can come back. I’m fairly sure Trump would hit a wall once it’s not the primaries and he has to appeal to the whole country – large swaths of which he insults on a daily basis.
By this logic – and barring the sleazy thing we don’t see coming that the Right still has most of year to do – Hillary Clinton will be president.

This is not to say I’m entirely okay with ole ‘Hill... it’s just that Sanders probably won’t make it and everyone on the other side is a total nut or – in Bush’s case – just another rich tool.

If by some catastrophe Trump or one of the other egomaniacal arseholes were to win (this is a worse catastrophe than Bush winning which would still be a catastrophe on its own)…

… then we here in the rest of the civilised world have a bit of a problem.
Dealing with that would be a bit like having a retarded giant with an activated chainsaw standing in your kitchen bellowing that he better get a barrel of strawberry flavoured Cap'n Crunch cereal in the next 20 seconds or he’s going throw a tantrum.

Green Eagle,

There are no words I can offer that will combat the never ending river of stupid which flows freely from the mouths of those who hate. I don't understand those sorts of people and have come to realize that if I did 'get' them, I'd be just like them. I believe this applies to you as well.

You, my proud feathered blogger, read through so much crap - it has to color your perspective after a while. I don't want to say stop writing because I value your words and sense of humor, but I also can not ask you to do something I have no intention of doing (i.e. read any of the original articles in your famous wingnut wrapup).

At one point I thought exposure of such crazy ideas would make them go away; after all sunshine is an amazing disinfectant. All that happened was the rest of the slavering wild eyed idjits came out of the woodwork to praise the hateful thoughts.

As I look around the world there is some hope - the kids of today aren't thrilled with the current establishment. They have gay friends. They grew up with friends who are continents apart. They had Carl Sagan when their minds were open - so yes, I hold out hope that the future will be better. It's just the now we must survive and I won't kid you - it's going to suck.

Trump thinks he controls the mob who support him? Yeah, there was another person who thought he could control what he called and he died an awful death.

My advice is to hold those who are dear to you close. Eat amazing foods. And I'm sure there are other cute corgis on the interwebz. They are corgis. What's not to love?

Disclaimer - I have a Belgian Malinois and a Husky/Mal mix so I already love the goggers. Corgis are cute but I'm a Mal girl for the rest of my life.

Happy Thanksgiving to you. I am thankful for the day I found your blog and placed it in my bookmarked folder.

Connie, I'm with you - and I, too, am truly thankful for Green Eagle. He is (you are, Mr. Eagle) one of the most concise and precise critics of our sad state of affairs, yet one whose writing, too, manages to lift my spirit in a way few others do.

Best regards from a neighbour (see how I spelled it?) from the north ...

In the meantime, we all still have much to be thankful for. I, for one, am thankful for your blog.

Happy Thanksgiving! Keep lambasting those turkeys and knock the stuffing out of them.

Thanks for the thoughtful comments. I just want to say that my wife tells me that my tone in this post seemed incredibly depressed. I didn't mean to suggest that I was contemplating stopping bligs. I'm like a fly attacking your hamburger- I just won't take the hint and go away.
