A Job For Green Eagle?

I am so pleased to have received the following e-mail today: I just wanted to ask anyone who has read my blog if they think this might be the right opportunity for me.

Sidney Powell's Serious Evidence, Part About 3,000

Occasionally, I recommend an article from somewhere else.  This is one of them.  If you can read articles at the Washington Post, I want to urgently recommend this one, which is one of the funniest serious articles I have ever read.  It is titled "Sidney Powell’s secret intelligence contractor witness is a pro-Trump podcaster."  It concerns one Terpsichore Maras-Lindeman.  The funny part is not that, despite being described as "a former intelligence contractor with insights on a foreign conspiracy to subvert democracy" by Sidney Powell, she is nothing but one more wingnut crank spewing idiotic conspiracy theories.  No, the really funny thing is the almost endless account the article gives of her record of repeatedly making false claims about herself, among them that she is an oncologist, a Ph.D, a "trained cryptolinguist" for the Navy, that she acted on direct orders from CIA director John Brennan, and on and on.  I don't want to ruin your fun by...

Treason and War

Image
I very rarely (only a couple of times ever, out of over 5,000 posts) reprint something I have written, but I am going to make an exception here.  This is something I wrote concerning the claim that the definition of treason in the Constitution requires a declaration of war before treason can be charged.  This assertion is made over and over again by Republicans, in a typical effort to make people believe what they are saying, even though it is not true.  We see the same tactic of repetitive lying in various Republican arguments, most notably regarding the second amendment.  Anyway, I checked out this claim some time ago, and I believe it is groundless.  I remind you that the Constitution elsewhere refers to "enemies foreign and domestic," so adhering to the enemy, giving them aid and comfort, need not be only applicable to a foreign state at war with us.   We see the current President openly considering actions to destroy the legally elected governmen...

Wingnut Wrapup

Image
The crazy is growing strong with these people.  Faced with the defeat of their man-God, they could have tried living in the real world for once, but no.  Here's a bit of the result.  Note: I could not even be bothered to identify the sources of this garbage.  They are all saying the same thing, so what does it matter? "Huge- Breaking- Limited Martial Law to Be Enacted...People declaring Martial Law to restore the constitution." "People" being Donald Trump, I guess.  Well, it's just about the only hope he has at this point.  Don't be surprised if he gives it a try.  Although I am not sure how enacting martial law will "restore the Constitution."  I'll have to think about that one. And more of the same: "D-Day! Trump and The Insurrection - Digital Pearl Harbor, It's About To Get Real...It’s a world of corruption all aimed at destroying the United States of America.  There are more communists inside America’s Government than there ar...

My Inaugural Day Dream

Image
Or more specifically, my nightmare. Let me be straight here- I am not by any means suggesting this is going to happen, but given Trump's obvious viciousness and mental instability, it is just within the realm of possibility that it will. I am thinking of two reports that I have heard in recent days.  The first is that Trump, who is currently subject to pretty wild mood swings, has several times suggested that he will refuse to leave the White House on his final day as the worst President in history.  The second, is a repeatedly expressed desire to hold one of his would-be Nuremburg rallies on January 20th, at the same time as Biden is being sworn in.   As if the bastard ever rolled his sleeves up for any kind of work. Well, where better to hold a rally like that than at the White House itself?  We know that, since the election, he has managed to get several thousand people, many of them heavily armed thugs looking to incite violence, to show up in Washington....

Let the Whining Commence

Image
And here we go with a sample of the right wing reaction to the crushing of their great Supreme Court case Friday night.  I know you can hardly wait: Beth Baumann, Town Hall:  "Here's What Hunter's Latest Email Dump Revealed About Joe's Involvement in Chinese Business Dealings" Nothing.  That's what it revealed.  The e-mails (God, e-mails are magic to Republicans) involved Hunter giving Joe Biden a key to his offices, where he intended to do some of his own work after leaving the Vice Presidency.  Which somehow proves that Hunter and Joe were involved in a gigantic conspiracy with Communist China.  An utterly meaningless story, but it is the top post at Town Hall this morning; anything to distract the faithful from yesterday's Supreme Court slaughter. Beth Baumann, Town Hall:  "Tucker Issues a Warning... About a Potential President AOC?" And this is the next story at Town Hall today- Be Very Scared of What AOC Might Do In Four Years!  Just fo...

Forget It. They Aren't Done Yet

So, today's Supreme Court decision tossing the Texas lawsuit into the garbage probably indicates that no further Trump legal actions has a chance of going anywhere, not that this will stop them from still throwing a bunch more Krakens at the country.  However, don't fool yourself that Trump, the 127 members of the House, the 69% of all of the Republican State Attorneys General and the (seemingly) tens of millions of brain dead Trump supporters who support his coup attempt are done yet.  Not on your life. Next will come several days of open threats to the electors chosen by the States, and a continuation of Republican efforts to bully or extort Republican State legislators to overthrow the popular election and place the would-be dictator back in the White House.  Then, after the electors meet in a few days, there will be an intense campaign throughout the holidays to get Republicans in Congress to use their power to object to their States' electors, which can potentially d...

Pearl Harbor Day

Image
Today is December 7th, the anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, perhaps the most shocking day in the modern history of the United States.  It is perhaps a fitting occasion to think of the war that was about to engulf the United States- a war that would claim fifty million lives. It is also a fitting occasion to remember this: “Hey, John, what’s this all about? What’s this a tour of?” Mr Trump reportedly asked John Kelly, his then-chief of staff, when they took a private tour in 2017 of the USS Arizona Memorial, a ship commemorating the surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor during the Second World War." As a person of about Trump's age, knowing as I do what it was like being a child in the aftermath of World War II, it is almost inconceivable to me that any American who was not seriously mentally incapacitated or deeply schizophrenic could be ignorant and indifferent to our history to the degree that they did not know what happened at Pearl Harbor. The peopl...

There Really Is No Bottom To This

This has happened in the last couple of days: The President of the United States publicly demanded that the Supreme Court, which he has packed as far as he can with corrupt right wing Justices, has now demanded that the court "rule" that he won the Presidential election in all fifty States. The President's former National Security Advisor, a convicted felon who was treacherously pardoned, has called for a military coup and the elimination of the Constitution, in order to keep the President in office for a second term. A lawyer for the President, faced with their legal team's abysmal 1-40 record in court cases to overturn the election, has now started calling for violent attacks on opponents of the President. We now know for certain that despite vague rumors to the contrary, the President has by no means given up his attempts to place himself in the White House for a second term, regardless of both the popular vote and the electoral college outcome, and to do so by an...
