I Promised to Repost This Periodically

So here it is: This is pretty much all you need to know about the Republican party and its candidate for President, but the press really doesn't seem to be interested.  Funny thing, that.

Hillary Doesn't Tell the Truth

And she didn't!  Let's face reality: when Hillary said that half of Trump's supporters are violence-loving racists, she was wrong.  Wrong, wrong, wrong!  In fact, here is the truth which she still will not accept:  Given what we have seen coming from Trump the last year, every one of Trump's supporters is a violence-loving racist.  Every one of this miserable band of haters. The right and their lackeys in the press have, of course, savaged her for daring to elude to the obvious nature of the people who support Trump, and they would probably have been just as vicious if she claimed a quarter of them, or ten percent, or one of them was racist. Learn your lesson, Hillary and the rest of you gutless Democrats out there.  Better to be hanged for telling the truth than for just hinting around about it. And if you let these miserable people define what it is allowable for you to say, you are sunk.  You've already dug a big ditch for yourself by being afra...

Settlements

I want to bring your attention to an extremely interesting article in the Washington Post today about the legality or illegality of settlements in occupied territories.  This is a widespread practice and has never been subject to anything like the condemnation that is directed toward (surprise) Israel, with respect to its West Bank Settlers.  Here's a key passage: "Despite its frequent invocation in the Israeli context, scholars have never examined – or even considered – how the norm has been interpreted and applied in any other occupation context in the post-WWII era... First, the migration of people into occupied territory is a near-ubiquitous feature of extended belligerent occupations. Second, no occupying power has ever taken any measures to discourage or prevent such settlement activity, nor has any occupying power ever expressed opinio juris suggesting that it is bound to do so. Third, and perhaps most strikingly, in none of these situations have the internationa...

The End of Civilization

Image
Most people, even those who believe in global warming, are still caught up in thinking it's about losing shore towns in Florida, or more hurricanes and tornadoes. That's the least of it.  Take a look at this crude  map that I colored in: The red areas are on a track to be utterly uninhabitable by human beings by the mid to late 21st century; population by my rough estimate, 220 million.  These areas will be experiencing temperatures that will often exceed 140 degrees- enough to kill anyone who can't get refuge within a couple of hours. The yellow areas, population a couple of billion, are areas on track to have temperatures so elevated that their agricultural base will be essentially destroyed, displacing most of their people. By comparison, the displacement of ten million people in Syria, half still inside the country, has caused near fatal political and economic damage throughout Europe, and is a key factor in the re-emergence of the ugliest strains of national...

Why It Doesn't Make Any Difference

What people like me decide to put up on the internet: Wolf Blitzer just got done playing a 10-second clip of Hillary being helped into a car after a rally today- 40 times in ten minutes. The only thing I can find to ease my pain at things like this, is that it is obvious at this point that the people who intend to vote for Trump are so angry that they actually want to destroy the United States, so no pointing out to them of where their behavior is leading will have a bit of difference.  They are absolutely immune to anything but their own rage, and they are going to do what they are going to do, no matter what happens afterwards. That's why I just don't bother posting much any more.

It's Not Even Both-Siderism Any More

It's just a deliberate attempt to tie so many weights around Hillary's neck that she sinks without a trace, and we get the edifying prospect of having President Trump running out country. Man, it doesn't take much to piss me off at the press these days.  This time, it's an opinion piece  in the L. A. Times by one Bill McKibben.  Here's a sample: "The argument that wary progressives should fall in line behind Hillary Clinton boils down to two points. First: Donald Trump is terrible. Second: The Democratic platform is great, and maybe there’s a chance she’ll pay attention to it...argument No. 2 is weakening with each day that Clinton stays silent about the drama unfolding on the high prairie, where native Americans are bravely resisting the further destruction of their water and land...And not a peep from the woman who would be president." Yes, folks, this is a day when we have seen Donald Trump willingly appear on Russian TV and praise their vicious...

Wingnut Wrapup

Image
Today's Wingnut Wrapup dedicated to Donald Trump, who had this to say: "...people don't care,” Trump said Monday afternoon in Ohio of his tax returns, which he has not released. “I don't think anybody cares, except some members of the press.” They do, however, care a lot about being informed via an emergency bulletin, every time Hillary Clinton coughs. So, let's just move on with a bucket of crazy: Derek Hunter:  "The Idea Of National Sovereignty Drives Democrats Nuts" This is all because Democrats oppose the Wall, and think that ejecting 15 million or so people from the country, at a cost of tens of thousands of dollars each, is crazy.  To Republicans, "Trump" is now the nation, and he determines what sovereignty is.  Don't bother to get up, Mr. Godwin, but the last time we saw this sort of thing was with Hitler. Joe Connor, Town Hall:  "Flight to Terror" This would be about the people who took a passenger plane t...
