What the Hell is Up With Adam Schiff?

Before making my comment, let me be clear:  I live in Adam Schiff's district.  I worked on his first Congressional campaign, and have always supported him.  There is not a single person in the House who was as forthright in the attempt to stop Donald Trump's rogue Presidency, and nobody who was as brave in standing up to the inevitable Republican attacks and smears.  I really like Katie Porter, but in the end, there was nobody who deserves the chance to move up to the Senate the way he does.  So why has he now seemingly stabbed the party in the back by apparently demanding that Joe Biden, the most successful President since FDR, drop out of the Presidential race, with no known person who could replace him and have a chance of winning the election?

Well, I have two reasons.  Take your pick, or come up with another one if you can.

First of all, Adam Schiff, like Chuck Schumer, represents one of the two main financial centers of the United States.  Both cities are chock full of billionaires whose financing has become absolutely essential to run for high office.  And Nancy Pelosi too is from a city that is absolutely rotten with billionaires.  These allegedly Democratic billionaires don't want to have Joe Biden run again, not because he may lose, but because he may win.  Democratic billionaires turn out to be no better than Republican billionaires:  all they care about is their damned tax cuts, and ending any regulations that stand in the way of their God given right to do anything they please.  Have these people simply told Schiff that they will destroy his career unless he helps them stop Biden?   And has Schiff, so resolute in the past, finally run up against a wall he can't climb?

Well, that's one explanation that occurs to me, and at this point, I think it is the most likely.  But there is another one that nobody seems to want to face, but it is still possible.  Schiff, Pelosi and Schumer are as inside as any insider can be.  They know from first hand experience what is going on in Washington, in a way that us poor bystanders never can.  What if they know something we don't, and that something is that Biden really is descending into senility- perhaps so rapidly that it will become horribly obvious by November?  What if they see the Joe Biden that has done so many great things the last four years just disintegrating in front of them?  What happens then?

Well, I have questions but no answers.  We'll see, over the next couple of months, if either one of these scenarios is right, I guess, after what is, I suspect, for you as for me, almost unendurable anxiety about whether we are about to see a government take over this country that makes Hitler look like a moderate.

The first reason strikes me as very plausible. Once the campaigning gets going, with abortion rights and Project 2025 front and center, it could end in a landslide that would give the Democrats sizeable majorities in the House and Senate. That would enable Biden to move forward with things like a billionaire tax, with no Republicans in a position to stop him. Even some Democratic billionaires might be prepared to risk a Trump win in order to prevent that.

I've also been hearing that the recent mini-wave of Democratic politicians pushing Biden to drop out is mostly being driven by pressure from big donors -- which means rich people.

That Biden is actually going senile strikes me as far less likely. His public appearances since the debate have not suggested that. For what it's worth, Elizabeth Warren has said that she deals with Biden all the time and sees no sign of cognitive impairment. And she's the type not to be easily swayed by billionaires.

Very fair comment, as usual, Infidel.
