It’s a funny place. So much that is pleasant and so much that is unpleasant within a stone’s throw of one another.<br /><br />But anyone who lives in poverty there KNOWS they have the shitty end of the stick. <br />No-one in poverty there says “I got it great” or “I live in the best country in the world” or “the rest of the world looks up to this”. It’s crap and they know it. The whys and wherefores of how things got to be this crap are another matter but people do understand they have it bad.<br /><br />One has to wonder… at the pervasiveness and the depth of the mythologising and the propaganda required to make someone living in Shitville Louisiana believe they have it so good. You may understand it intuitively and intellectually but I am still stupefied by it.
