Simple Facts That Are Still Too Complicated For Democrats

Daily Kos Edition:

"I don't know what it means, but Obama's job approval numbers are jumping...What could be driving the president’s numbers upward?  Ultimately, I have no idea. Feel free to offer to your own."

Okay, I will.  It's really pretty simple after all.  The Republcans have spent the last eight years and God only knows how many billion dollars on a campaign of smears, lies and outright sabotage directed solely at Obama.  Now, they have a new target, and the short-memoried, ignorant voters are already beginning to forget the endless attacks, as the Republican destruction machine focuses on Hillary.

That's it.  Do you have one shred of doubt that this is the explanation of this phenomenon?  How can seemingly intelligent people be so clueless?

A Primary Question

Here's something I've wondered about for a long time.  Why is is that we don't hear a little more Democratic protest over the fact that the three States that hold the first primaries, Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, which between them represent less than three percent of the American population, are among the most Conservative States in the country, and yet they effectively get the right to pick the issues on which the election will be fought?

This has always seemed to me to be just one more way the Republicans are allowed to game the system, to give themselves an advantage in elections that they could never win fairly.  Shouldn't some Democrats be coming up with a way to change this unfair arrangement?

Trump's Gamble

I see even perceptive people like writers at Daily Kos falling for the press' wishful thinking that Donald Trump's dropping out of today's Republican debate because he was afraid to face that master interviewer, Megan Kelly.  What a pile of nonsense.  Here is what Trump is really up to:  He is making a bet that, without his presence, the voting public is basically going to ignore the other guys.  And it is a very good bet, too.  I've seen a poll indicating that over 80% of watchers of previous Republican debates have no interest in this one if Trump is not there.

Well, what would that show?  It would prove that, basically, no one cares about the Republican pack of losers, except for Trump.  If he wins his bet, it will leave him with a stranglehold on the entire Republican nominating procedure.

I am not even sure what it would take to make him "lose" the bet.  Even if the debate does okay, who thinks it will produce any real gains for the other guys?   And if he wins, he owns the Republican party, for whatever satisfaction that brings him.

This guy would challenge Reagan and W for the title of worst President of all time, but he may be the most manipulative campaigner the country has ever seen.  Shows what you can accomplish when your need for self-gratification is not tempered by a shred of concern for the consequences of your actions.

The Revolution Has Been Postponed

I think there is a really good lesson in the recent humiliating collapse of the great Malheur range war- and the people who should be learning this lesson are the mainstream press, who took these guys seriously in the first place.  The truth is that the great national call for "patriots" to join them in their uprising against Obama's Communist tyranny resulted in about three dozen people showing up; yet it was an excuse for the press to treat them as a serious force for weeks, and to pretend that something is going on here.  In fact, almost no one on earth (except people like the Koch Brothers, of course, who plan on ending up owning all of the land that these jackasses could pry away from the government) supported their efforts.  The whole thing was an egomaniacal Kabuki act, which the press, like a stupid trout, couldn't resist swallowing, hook line and sinker.

Longtime readers of this blog (both of you- thanks for the faithfulness, mother) will know that I have reported over and over again, on events that right wingers claimed were the start of a grand revolution, which turned out to be colossal, humiliating failures- marches whose organizers predicted millions,  would attend, forcing Obama right out of the White House, attracting a hundred or so followers, and uprisings that never got off the ground.  And yet the mainstream press falls for their shtick over and over again, legitimizing the Ted Cruzes and Donald Trumps who claim to speak for this nonexistent majority.

Here's another thing that we can learn from this most recent revolution:  These militia members, who claim to have spent so much time in military training, and to have so much military experience, may have learned what privates know- how to shoot straight and how to load your gun- but they don't seem to have learned a damned thing about what officers are supposed to know- tactics, logistics, how not to be lured into a totally predictable ambush which decapitated your movement, how to seize a property that is not totally indefensible, having reinforcements if your fighters are incapacitated; they don't seem to have understood even the notion of bringing along some food.  They are just about the most pathetic army in history.

But there are still so many who will insist that these losers represent a significant proportion of Americans, and that they have a rational cause to fight for.  So, decent, competent people like Hillary and Bernie have to duke it out with ignorant, vicious clowns like Trump and Cruz, to determine who gets to run our country.

And we wonder why the rest of the world looks at us with a mixture of derision and fear.

Wingnut Wrapup

I'm not even going to try to deal with the Bundy shootout today- I'll give the wingnuts a couple of days to stew in their fury, and then get back to you with the results.  So, onward, for what has been a sort of uninteresting time on the right.  Sorry- I can't make the crap up for you:

Today's Wingnut Wrapup is in celebration of this glorious news:

"World's Most Wanted Criminal Found Working at a Subway Restaurant in the UK"

Busted! I never thought I'd live to see the day.

ALEC :  "Govt failure, brought on by public employee pensions, poisoned Flint water."

Oh, okay, then.  I guess it wasn't corrupt, greedy bastard Republicans that would rather give the State's  money to their rich backers than spend it keeping people safe.  My mistake.

Todd Starnes, Town Hall:  "Todd Starnes: Florida: Christian Schools Can't Pray at Championship Game...Prayer is important at Floridas Cambridge Christian School."

The only reason I included this item is that, as a former Cambridge graduate student, I'd like to know what the hell this God-forsaken place has to do with Cambridge. Turns out that it is a

"Christian school founded in 1964 as Seminole Presbyterian School, a mission outreach of Seminole Presbyterian Church. The school was renamed The Cambridge School in 2002 and then Cambridge Christian School in 2007."

Oh, I see.  It has absolutely nothing to do with the real Cambridge.  "Cambridge" just sounded so much more intellectual than "Seminole, " I guess.

Michael Barone, Town Hall:  "Americans Tired of Elites Considering Them Stupid and Vicious"

Easy solution to that one, Conservatives:  Stop being stupid and vicious.

Robert Spencer, PJ Media:  "As Iran Held U.S. Sailors Hostage, Obama Sent Mister Rogers to Handle Darth Vader "

And he got them out in less than a day.  If we had spent our own Darth Vader, as Republicans would have done, the sailors would still be in Iranian captivity, and we would have already spent a few hundred million dollars gearing up for war with Iran which, in their inimitable fashion, the Republicans would have lost.

By the way, when an enemy's military craft enter your territorial waters, and you detain them, they are not hostages.  They are legally detained combatants.

Ethel C. Fenig, American Thinker:  "Climate changers shocked and puzzled by snow in January"

Curiously, Ethel could not find a single "climate changer" that appears to have been shocked and puzzled.  Ethel doesn't mention that the last two years are the hottest ever recorded, nor does she mention that snowfall is actually greater when the temperature is closer to freezing than when it is colder, because cold air can not hold as much moisture.  Oh well.

Walter Williams (yes, a black man,) Town Hall:  "Last July, Anthony Hervey, an outspoken black advocate for the Confederate flag, was killed in a car crash. Arlene Barnum, a surviving passenger in the vehicle, told authorities and the media that they had been forced off the road by a carload of "angry young black men" after Hervey, while wearing his Confederate kepi, stopped at a convenience store en route to his home in Oxford, Mississippi. His death was in no small part caused by the gross level of ignorance, organized deceit and anger about the War of 1861. Much of the ignorance stems from the fact that most Americans believe the war was initiated to free slaves"

Walter goes on to tell the usual right wing lies about how so many slaves just LOVED their owners, and went right out and fought for them.

Too bad for you, Anthony, but sometimes being one of the biggest jerks in the country is enough to get you killed.  And as for you, Walter, rot in hell.

Now, a good question asked at a Republican website, in the form of a graphic, for those of their followers (just about all of them) who can't read too good:

Nice, huh?  Thinking about this led Green Eagle to ask the following question:

Christine Rousselle, Town Hall:  "The March for Life, the largest pro-life gathering in the USA, will go on as scheduled despite the massive snowstorm gearing up to hit DC on Friday, the day of the March."

Of course we all know that gay people cause tornados, but bite your tongue if you claim that God might be sending a message to the organizers of the "March for Life."

Donald Lambro, Town Hall:  "Crazy Candidates, Crazy Election...If you are among those voters who think that America's 2016 presidential election has become the laughingstock of the world, you are not alone."

Hint: It's not the election that has become a laughingstock, it's the Republican party.  No one is laughing at Hillary or Bernie.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "BREAKING: MASSIVE RIFLE Purchased in Obama’s Fast and Furious Program Discovered at El Chapo Hideout"

This story is all over the wingnut world today.  No word about how many of the hundreds of weapons seized came from gun shows or straw purchasers in the United States, of course.

Ellis Washington, Renew America:  "Vladimir Putin: More like Reagan than Obama"

That is apparently a good thing if you are a Conservative.

J. Matt Barber, Renew America:  "Ted Cruz, first 8 U.S. presidents all ineligible!  For that ...eight of the first nine U.S. presidents should have been ineligible to serve as well. Since they were all born as British citizens in the British colonies, George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, et al., should have been, one and all, constitutionally ineligible."

This is probably my favorite comment today, illustrating as it does, not only the complete ignorance which Conservatives have about the Constitution as it really is, but in addition shows the fact that they are willing to tell any convenient lie without a moment's fear that one of their millions of ignorant followers will check the Constitution for themselves.

Here is what the actual Constitution has to say about who is eligible to be President:

"No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President"

Missed that second part, huh, Matt?  You can find the text of the Constitution online in about one minute, and find this passage in article 2, in very little more than that.  But who cares, when it doesn't say what they want?

Moe Lane, Red State:  "CNN announces sudden Democratic town hall debate on a Monday during prime time!  ... it reeks of nervous terror and failure."

Of course, every time they held a debate on the weekend, that reeked of terror and failure too.  You want terror and failure, Moe, just take a look at your own party's primary race.

"…And that’s the Democrats’ problem, right there.  They’re dull."

Dull.  Well, I guess Idi Amin was never dull.  Hitler was never dull (unless you had to listen to his speeches.)  Dull is worse than batshit crazy, I guess.

Roger Simon, PJ Media:  "What Happens if Hillary Isn't Indicted?  A new kind of rebellion is brewing."

A rebellion of jackasses.

Washington Times:  "Media on Palin's Trump endorsement: Is this a joke?"

Nope.  It's a tragedy.

William Perry Pendley, National Review:  "The Federal Government Should Follow the Constitution and Sell Its Western Lands"

I won't bore you with all the details of this incredibly boring article; let me just say that it seems to depend on Pendley's discovery that this passage:

"The Congress shall have Power to dispose of and make all needful Rules and Regulations respecting the Territory or other Property belonging to the United States; and nothing in this Constitution shall be so construed as to Prejudice any Claims of the United States..."

is to be found not in article I of the Constitution, but in article IV, which was apparently included in the Constitution for comic relief.  Just one more example of the fact that the Constitution means whatever the hell right wingers say it does.

Newsmax:  "Rush says Trump makes 'strategic error': Cruz 'not nasty'

Well, if anyone should know who is nasty, Rush Limbaugh would be the person, right?  By Rush Limbaugh's standards, of course, not even Jeffrey Dahmer qualifies as nasty.

World Net Daily:  "FLINT WATER CRISIS A HOAX?  'It's just a crock, for this to be perpetuated is doing a lot of damage'

Well, if anyone should know what a hoax is, I guess it would be World Net Daily.  They've lived off of hoaxes for years.

Donna Edmunds, Breitbart:  "MASSIVE MIGRANT WAVE EXPECTED… MEN DEMAND WIVES, CHILDREN BROUGHT TO EUROPE"

The nerve of these people- to want to be reunited with their families.  Muslim terrorism at its worst.

News Machete:  "Falsified temperature data shows that 2015 was the hottest year ever. This exceeds the previous falsified record high of 2014, which exceeded the falsified record of 2013, and so on and so on. "

Well, I guess that answers that.   It's all just a hoax after all.

And the delusion of the week:

Thomas Sowell, Town Hall:  "Former governor Sarah Palin is an intelligent person"

Right.  I'm sure we'll all buy that one.

Mike Flynn, Breitbart:  " RUBIO SHOULD HAVE RUN ON ‘ELECTABILITY’…"

Well, he sure as hell can't run on having any answers to our nation's problems, or being an adult.

Douglas Ernst, World Net Daily:  "HILLARY SUFFERS MASSIVE COUGHING FIT"

All the news that matters, right?  Several right wing websites seemed very concerned about Hillary's cough.  Well, that's what they've got.

And that's all I've got too.

They're Just Saying It Out Loud Now

They don't even care who knows what they are up to.  Here is a quote from an actual legal brief filed by the State of Texas, purportedly defending itself against a Supreme Court decision ruling against its electoral gerrymandering:

"DOJ’s accusations of racial discrimination are baseless. In 2011, both houses of the Texas Legislature were controlled by large Republican majorities, and their redistricting decisions were designed to increase the Republican Party’s electoral prospects at the expense of the Democrats....The redistricting decisions of which DOJ complains were motivated by partisan rather than racial considerations, and the plaintiffs and DOJ have zero evidence to prove the contrary. It is perfectly constitutional for a Republican-controlled legislature to make partisan districting decisions, even if there are incidental effects on minority voters who support Democratic candidates."

The Republicans in the State of Texas are openly claiming that it is perfectly acceptable for them to rig the electoral system in their favor.  Of course, Republicans everywhere have been doing this for years, but even they have not had the brass to claim that it is okay.  Well, those days are over.  If they can steal the government, tough shit for you, America.

I've got nothing more to say about this.  Any sentient being can see where we are in this country, and what lies ahead.

Our Heroes are Protecting Us

This news, from Yahoo today:
Glad to know there is someone we can still count on.

The Party of Personal Responsibility, Yeah!

Sarah Palin's son was arrested yesterday, as most of you probably know, for beating up his girlfriend and threatening her with an assault rifle.

Today, we learn that Palin has publicly blamed his arrest on Obama.  Yes she did.  Look here, or here, or here, or a hundred other places.

You couldn't make things like this up if you tried.  We often get a laugh out of Republicans blaming everything on Obama, but this has to be a new high.  Man, they are hopeless.

Obama- Close the Guantanamo Concentration Camp

I think it is clear that Obama could unilaterally close the concentration camp at Guantanamo tomorrow.  And here is the reason, which I have never seen anyone mention when discussing the issue.

From the Agreement Between the United States and Cuba for the Lease of Lands for Coaling and Naval stations; February 23, 1903, Article 2:

"The grant of the foregoing Article shall include the right to use and occupy the waters adjacent to said areas of land and water, and to improve and deepen the entrances thereto and the anchorages therein, and generally to do any and all things necessary to fit the premises for use as coaling or naval stations only, and for no other purpose."

The use of Guantanamo bay as a prison is, and has always been, in violation of a treaty entered into by the United States, and should therefore be terminated immediately.

And, for people who like to loudly proclaim their adherence to the Constitution (read Conservatives) without having a clue of most of its contents, let us remember this, from Article VI:

"This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land..."

Thus, the Constitution guarantees this treaty equal force with its own provisions.  Neither the President, nor any other public official is carrying out his duty to uphold the Constitution, as long as he allows the Guantanamo concentration camp to continue to exist.  Yes, I know that Obama, or any Democratic President, would face a tornado of invective the likes of which we have rarely seen, should he carry out his Constitutional duty to close this facility.  Well, so what?  How about doing the right thing, for once, when the right thing is so clear?

Running Our Foreign Policy

When Democrats are in charge:

The supposedly biggest threat in the world to acquire nuclear weapons voluntarily agrees to stop trying to produce them, and keeps its promise in all details, without a shot being fired.

Ten U.S. sailors caught in Iranian waters are released with their boats, within hours of being detained- a detention which was entirely legal.

Four Americans held in Iran are released, in exchange for a number of Iranians who had violated the sanctions, which is a relatively moot point considering that the sanctions ended yesterday.

When Republicans are in charge:

No nuclear agreement with Iran, and a mindless march toward inevitable war, with a country many times stronger than Iraq.

The ten sailors caught in an escalating round of threats and possible real violence, which could also give Republicans an excuse to go to war for something which Obama accomplished peacefully in one day.

Four Americans still in prison in Iran, and we have the rather pathetic pleasure of prosecuting seven Iranians for something which, with Democrats in charge, is no longer even against the law.

A few reactions from the right?

"'We Are Devastated': One American Prisoner May Still Be Languishing In Iran"

"America Paid a Big Price' with Iran Swap...Rep. Sherman says there's "an inspired network now" for procurement and terrorism after seven freed by Tehran's request."

"Obama administration repeals sanctions as House Intelligence chairman warns more Iran aggression coming."

Needless to say, there are plenty more.  In response to the Iranian releases of Americans, Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee were quick to offer praise to the one responsible for this diplomatic masterstroke- God; and Trump credited an even higher authority- himself.  Yes, it was Trump's tough talk that scared the Iranians into what they did.

We have now had two totally unexpected and highly positive results from the Iran nuclear deal, and a perfect demonstration of what happens when reason and decency replace mindless warmongering as foreign policy.  But the Republicans will still find it more advantageous to spend billions convincing the American people otherwise, than to simply recognize the truth.

Is there a rational person who believes that, if we deliver the White House to Donald Trump or Ted Cruz, we will escape being involved in a disastrous war, ending in a humiliating defeat for our country?  And yet half of the American people seem to believe that this is a very desirable outcome.

Wingnut Wrapup

A little spotty today, because of my vision problems- solved and back to normal next week.  Anyway, here we go:

Jonah Goldberg, Town Hall:   "Obama -- and FDR -- set Precedent for Trump's One-Man Rule"

Trump? It's all Obama's fault.  Because. isn't it always?  Now,. a couple of choice excerpts from this miserable piece of right wing delusion:

"The argument that Obama paved the way for Trump takes many forms. He "lowered the bar" for presidential qualifications, argues Peggy Noonan."

No, that would be a Republican with pretty much exactly the same resume as Obama when elected President- one Abe Lincoln.  That guy turned out to be a failure too, I guess, or we would still be living in a fine slave country, where FREEDOM is everything.

"Trump's Don Rickles act, writes Michael Barone, reflects "the coarseness of Obama's non-stop insults of Republicans and anyone who does not share his views and priorities."

It's hard to even find a way to make fun of this, given the Republicans' seven year history of directing the most coarse, lying abuse against Obama, while he spent most of the time patiently (and uselessly) trying to work with them.  They just have no shame.

"It is no accident that President Obama's America has given rise to Donald Trump," writes Ben Domenech, publisher of The Federalist. "It is an America that is more tribalist, where people feel more racially and religiously divided..."

Which is also totally Obama's fault.  That would be because...well, you know.

"For much of the Obama presidency, conservatives seemed to have intensified their reverence for the rule of law and the Constitution."

Oh God, how can even Jonah Goldberg say that?  And there you go.  Oh yeah, about the FDR part: Republicans still haven't forgiven him for the sins of ending the Great Depression and winning World War II.  Democrats aren't allowed to do anything when they are President; particularly anything that works.  Didn't you know that?

And now, on whit the rest of the "news," as they used to say:

Matt Vespa, Town Hall:  "Keystone: TransCanda Sues Obama Administration, Calls Rejection Of The Pipeline 'Perverse'

It's perverse to favor people's health over corporate profits, particularly given that, with the rise of alternative energy, if the Kochs don't drill the hell out of those tar sands, they are going to be worthless in a few years.  I mean, let's think about whose interests really count.

Guy Benson, Town Hall:  "Benghazi-Themed Attack Ad Hurts Hillary Among Young Voters"

Benghazi!!!!  Lying still works!  At least the Republican party has one bit of news they can be thankful for.

Roger Simon, PJ Media:  "Hillary's Watergate Looms...Karma strikes as Washington insider predicts Hillary indictment over email scandal."

"Washington insider predicts Hillary indictment..."  for about the six thousandth time in the last twenty years.  But this time- KABOOM!  This time it will all be different, yes sir!  Just wait and see!

And, from PJ Media, news of the following wonderful new book:

Victor Davis Hanson- "The Decline and Fall of California: From Decadence to Destruction"

Of course, California is doing better than practically any other State, what with the Democratic balanced budget, strong business growth, etc.  But California is the great liberal Boogieman State, so we need more lying propaganda about how terrible things are there.

Rick Moran, PJ Media:  "Trump Going Birther on Cruz May Backfire...Raising the issue may fuel resentment against Trump among Republicans."

Because of course, Trump's being a haremongering, racist, belligenrent, coarse  ashole would never be enough to do that.  But doing the same thing to a Republican he did to Obama- well, that's just going too far.

Megan Fox, PJ Media:  "Thank God Mister Rogers Is Dead!"

Yeah, that Mr. Rogers.  I'm not sure I really want to know why.  Maybe Meghan just couldn't think of enough Democrats today to be an asshole about.

J. Christian Adams, PJ Media:  "New Black Panthers with Guns, Lots of Them...Obama did nothing about these criminals with guns."

The second amdendment is for white people only.  Surely we all are familiar enough with the Constitution to know that.

Roger Kimball, PJ Media:  " They kind of liked it when Donald Trump said, à propos John McCain, that he preferred war heroes who did not get captured by the enemy.  They liked it when he called Rosie O’Donnell a “fat pig”: between us, they think she is a fat pig, too. The mot about the dishy Megyn Kelly bleeding from “the eyes or wherever” was kind of gross, but CNN got it exactly wrong when they said that Trump’s comment “draws outrage.”

Well, Roger, it did draw outrage.  Just not among anyone you know.

Tim Dunkin. Renew America:  "Barack Obama is importing war into America"

Of course, right wingers love war- but only the kind that happens over there, where we can kill lots of them, without any risk to us- except for the poor us.  And they aren't really us, now, are they?  So as long as the kill ratio is about 500 to 1, and none of our property is damaged (God forbid,) fire when ready, Gridley.

Cheryl Chumley, Renew America:  "Laura Ingraham, a top conservative radio host, tore into House Speaker Paul Ryan in a recent broadcast, saying the newly minted Republican leader actually fueled President Obama's executive orders on guns by giving the OK to funding for much of the White House's agenda"

"Funding much of the White House's agenda" being, in case you didn't catch it, Republican speak for agreeing to pay the bills for expenses that Congress appropriated, and not letting the entire U.S. economy come to a total collapse, in order to sate the hatred of the right wing base.  Bad decision, Paul.  Now, you have shown yourself to be a Communist traitor, and they won't forget it.

And now for a deep dive into the world of voluntary lunacy:

Ellis Washington, Renew America:  " In my 34+ years of writings on history, law, the Supreme Court, and political philosophy I have only come across three or four people – the biblical Joseph, Daniel, Jesus, and Donald J. Trump – who could move in this earthy plane, covered, protected by a metaphysical aura of defense against some of the world's most venal, reactionary and hypocritical haters."

Is that so?  Ellis, you need to get out more.

Douglas Ernst, World Net Daily:  "Zing! Charlie Daniels has awesome response to Obama's gun grab"

If it doesn't involve Charlie stabbing himself in the brain with a sharp stick, I don't want to hear about it.

Charlie, why not spend your time putting out a decent record, something you haven't bothered with for about thirty five years.  Maybe you could get together with that other right wing has-been, Ted Nugent, and write a real nice ballad about shooting Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Jane Chastain, World Net Daily:  "The recent revelations about Bill Cosby have turned the nation’s decades-long love affair with the actor into one of disgust, even repulsion. This raises the question: How long before the nation’s decades-long love affair with the nation’s 40th president will come to an equally abrupt end?"

Because they are just the same, right?  Here, I am going to break with my long standing precedent of advising right wing loons not to hold their breaths waiting for their predictions to come true.  Jane, I am sure that the American people are going to turn on Clinton (and his wife, of course, the 20-time most respected woman in America) any day now.  So, why don't you just suck up some air and stop breathing until it happens.  Have your next of kin get back to us with the results..

World Net Daily EXCLUSIVE:  "Trump scorches Islamic rape jihad on women"

Of course, if you are as rich as Donald, you can just buy a succession of young hot women, and ditch them when you're ready for a new one.  That's perfectly fair.

Cheryl Chumley, World Net Daily:  "HILLARY TOO 'IMPAIRED' TO RUN...Hillary Clinton’s now-famous debate-stage bathroom break may not have been a simple bathroom break at all – but rather, a medically necessary rest to deal with dizziness and disorientation, due to her previous concussion and blood clot, sources told Breitbart.  On Twitter, John Cardillo wrote: “Strong source just told me something I suspected. Hillary’s debate ‘bathroom break’ wasn’t that, but flare up of problems from brain injury.”

They're getting desperate now.  "Strong sources" who, of course, cannot be named, and who chose to reveal their vital information to an impartial news source like Breitbart.  Well, there you go.  I wonder how she beat the Congressional Republicans down in an eleven hour hearing, without suffering "dizziness and disorientation."  Just had a lucky day, I guess.  The next day, she was probably shreiking about the snakes coming down the walls of her padded cell.  Which would, incidentally, make her just about as mentally disturbed as Ted Cruz, but mentally disturbed is a good thing with wingnuts, who want someone like them in the White House- as long as it's not a woman or a, you know, black person.  Or anyone who still retains a shred of human decency.

Bill Federer, World Net Daily:  "1 CRITICAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AMERICA, EUROPE...Bill Federer remembers life, words of Millard Fillmore"

Not the Onion.  Yes, a guy at World Net Daily actually wrote that article.

Jon N. Hall. American Thinker:  "Tax Advice for GOP Presidential Candidates"

Let me guess: less taxes for rich people...yup, that's pretty much it.  Bet you never saw that coming, did you?

Guy Benson, Town Hall:  "Uh Oh: FBI's Hillary Probe Expands Again, Now Investigating Public Corruption, Sources Say"

Sources?  What sources?  Well, of course that can't be revealed. After giving a Byzantine explanation of why this time is any different than the other endless accusations against Hillary, Guy helpfully informs us:

"After lying mostly dormant for weeks amid intensive media focus on the Republican presidential race, Hillary Clinton's scandals have exploded back into the headlines over the past four days."

The headlines at Town Hall, maybe, where this was the number one story.  I didn't see it anywhere else.

Ron Paul, Town Hall:  "Oregon Standoff a Sign of Things to Come?"

Yeah, Ron, if we're talking the future direction of reality TV here.

Matt Barber, Town Hall:  "Every Muslim Will Bow Before Jesus"

But DON'T YOU DARE FORGET that it's the MUSLIMS who are trying to force their religion on everyone else in the world.  Here is a sample of Matt's beliefs:

"The die was cast before time began. Every Christian, Jew, atheist and pagan, to include each and every Muslim on earth – or, like Muhammad, who once walked the earth – will, in the end, bow a knee in worship to Jesus.

Yet, whether you bow first in this life, or first in the next, you will bow.  And the when and how will mean much.  For it will decide the where and how of your eternity."

There is no difference between this and the worst of Islamic fanaticism.  If you can't see that, you are truly wilfully blind.

Devon Herrick, Town Hall:   "The ‘Unaffordable Care Act’ Causing High Medical Bills for Insured People"

More lies.  Let's just leave it at that.  Here's a little more from Devon:

"Liberal public health advocates and left-of-center health policy wonks have long thought every American needs health insurance...they don't"

No, of course they don't.  Are there no prisons?    And the workhouses - are they still in operation?

Streiff, Red State:  "Is CAIR Actively Collaborating With The Hillary Clinton Campaign?"

If they aren't they are idiots.  What, you think they would rather have the guy who thinks it's great leadership to kill your opponents?  Or the guy who thinks God appointed him to force Christianity on the world?

Brianna Sharbaugh, PJ Media:  "4 Things That Are More Important Than Your Child's Happiness"

Just guessing here- The Koch brothers' net worth?

Rod Cackley, PJ Media:  "Snyder Apologizes, Blames Dirty Water on Michigan Environmental Department Breakdown"

See, it's really all the fault of those liberal environmentalists, not Snyder, who eliminated Flint's government, and replaced with a hand picked bunch of hatchet men who decided that Flint should have a substandard water system.

Ellis Washington, Renew America:  "Hillary Clinton: psychotic eyes, psychotic mind"

Hold on there ,guy!  You've got to save some lies for the general election.

Well, I'll save the rest of their lies for another day.

Yes, He Is Just Like That Guy

I'm beginning to wonder if anything, no matter how despicable, can put people off Donald Trump.  And I don't just mean his ignorant, violent followers, but the mainstream press, which seems to be unwilling to call out anything he says or does, no matter how frightening.

Here are the latest examples:  A couple of days ago, a Muslim woman who attended a Trump rally in a head scarf was forcibly thrown out.  She wasn't demonstrating against him; she wasn't heckling him; she was doing nothing but standing and listening to him.  But Trump's followers threw her out; and Trump had not a word of complaint, then or since.  This is the point where it is no longer possible to write these things off as factionalism, or fear of brown people- this is out and out racist hatred, of the sort that, left unchecked, leads directly to an American Kristallnacht. And I am neither exaggerating here nor breaking Godwin's law.  We all know that this is true, but the mainstream press, which has spent decades collaborating with the Republicans to demonize Hillary and Obama on every phony pretext they can create, will not speak a word of truth about this.

The second, in a way, is even more frightening. Here is what Trump had to say today about the North Korean Dictator, Kim Jong Un, who regularly threatens our country with nuclear annihilation:

"You gotta give him credit.  How many young guys -- he was like 26 or 25 when his father died -- take over these tough generals, and all of a sudden ... he goes in, he takes over, and he’s the boss," Trump said. "It's incredible. He wiped out the uncle, he wiped out this one, that one. I mean this guy doesn't play games."

Kim Jong Un is to be admired not just because he "took over," but by the way he did it- by murdering his opponents.  And this is not just sarcasm- it is clearly true admiration for the world's most mindless, belligerent dictator, the head of a country that lets its people wallow in poverty while its leaders rob the economy at every turn.  But he is to be admired, because if you don't like it, he kills you.  That, to Trump, is strong leadership.

And remember, Trump did not say this in an offhand remark- he is presenting it as a model of how he would run this country if elected.  And his followers seem to think that is just fine.

With these two incidents, I think the time has come when no one need feel the slightest doubt in saying that the Republicans' leading candidate is advocating totalitarian, racist dictatorship.  Godwin, you can just go back to sleep now; we finally have a national figure that we really can compare to Hitler.

And Trump only gets worse as time goes on.  I have spent a large part of my life wondering how the educated, cultured German people could have given themselves over to a vicious madman.  Well, I guess we're finding out just how easy it can be.

Oh, and in case that is not scary enough, consider the fact that, as Hitlerian as Trump is behaving, he is not the worst that the Republicans have to offer- that would be number two in the polling, Ted Cruz, who honestly thinks that God gave him life so he could rule the world according to his miserable, hateful idea of a religion.

And we don't seem to be able to do a thing about it.  The Republican party has created a monster that is set to devour us all.

Green Eagle's Assessment of the Republican Race

It is perhaps the height of madness to make a prediction about the Republican Presidential nominee, given all the upheaval that has happened this year, but Green Eagle, always ready to step in where wiser people fear to tread,  is going to make his prediction about how things will turn out.  And if, as is perhaps inevitable, this is all comically wrong, well, it wont be the first time for me.

I want to begin with an observation about the feelings of the Republican "mainstream," i.e. the majority of Republican leaders who have been bought and paid for by the 100 or so hyper rich families that have controlled the party for a couple of decades now.  Contrary to what just about everyone has been saying, I do not think they are opposed to the presence of Trump one bit; and here is why: I believe they see him performing a very useful task, which is to see that no other wacko right wing candidate can get any air at all, so that there is no danger of one of them (read Ted Cruz here, who they really hate) gets any real traction beyond his factional base.  I believe that the rich Republicans feel that they can get Trump out any time they want to, particularly because, as a billionaire, he is one of them, and in the end is going to see things the same way they do.  So, these rich sociopaths can save their money for the general election.

So, who is left standing when that happens?  Well, I think two of the formerly possible "mainstream" candidates (i.e. the ones who have the sense to keep their mouths shut about what they really intend to do once they are elected,) i.e. Scott Walker and Marco Rubio, have already demonstrated their inability to survive a general election even as well as Romney did.

Well, that leaves just one guy left, doesn't it.  And I want to remind you of something I have said before: the last time the rich guys did not pick the Republican candidate was with Barry Goldwater, and they have sure as hell done what they need to see that never happens again.

Yup, the miserable, worthless Jeb!  I still believe that in the end, the rich guys are going to cram Jeb down the throats of their insane base; and remember the old saying: "Democrats fall in love; Republicans fall in line."  The guys who really control things will be confident that, in the end, the suckers can be made to hate Hillary or Bernie so much that they will vote for the Republican no matter how they loathe him.

Well, time will tell.

Update:  I see a poll today showing Bush at 9% of Republican voters.  That doesn't seem too great, but it is a lot of progress compared to the 3-4% he was at a couple of weeks ago, and is not that far behind Cruz, at 12%, and Rubio, at 15%.  Bush is carrying out a very successful "rope-a-dope" strategy, I think, riding out his earlier flubs, and waiting to emerge as the party's savior in early spring.  His biggest problem now is going to be the idiot mainstream press, which has a narrative of his collapse which they are going to be too lazy to rethink; other than that, don't count him out.

A Brief Note

I've suffered a relatively minor eye problem, which is making it difficult for me to read or write at the moment.  I'll have a procedure to fix it in a week and a half or so, but until then, I may not be posting much.  No sympathy necessary- it is a minor and totally fixable issue, and more of an inconvenience than anything else, but it means that I have to get pretty riled up about things before I will write a post about them.

I just didn't want you to think I'd given myself over to drink, or anything.  Back to normal soon.

News from Ted

This just in, from Karoli at Crooks and Liars:

"Ted Cruz Worries That Obama Will Chisel Crosses Off Arlington Headstones"

Well, he needs some sort of hobby when he retires.

There are about 400,000 grave markers at Arlington, so it should keep him busy for a while.

Green Eagle Rethinks the Situation in Oregon

I no longer advocate the encasing of the building held by the Bundys in concrete.

I think there is far more fun to be had, just leaving them there until they figure out what total jackasses have made out of themselves, and try to slink away home.

Then, convict them of one of the many felonies they have committed, which will prevent them from ever again legally owning a gun.

That should be a pleasant spectacle.

When does the monstrosity end?

When does the idiocy of the American people stop?  When does the traitorous perfidy of the mainstream press lead us to destroy it?

What is it this time, Green Eagle?

Today, the Republicans in the House of Representatives are about to introduce a bill with the (as usual) disingenuous title " The Fairness in Class Action Litigation Act."

Fair for whom, you may well ask?  The immediate effect of this miserable piece of legislation, assuming that Barack Obama is vicious and corrupt enough not to veto it (he's not, of course, but the next Republican we elect will be,) will be to prevent the over 500,000 owners of Volkswagen diesel cars, who have been swindled by the company into buying almost worthless vehicles, from filing a class action suit against the company to recover their losses.  This would mean that every one of them would have to file a suit on their own, to get back the money stolen from them by this German manuracturer, an obviously impossible task.

In taking this action, the Republicans in Congress have decided to side with a closely held foreign corporation, against the American people.  How can anyone, after things like this (and of course there are so many others, just as sick) have even a shred of belief in the Republican party as anything but a knife stuck in the back of our country?  How can the press not treat this sabotage as the story it is: by far the greatest threat to our continued existence that we face today  And how can a single American be stupid enough to cast their vote for them?

And yet there are tens of millions of voters out there, who have apparently decided that their hatred, their lust for violence, and their overwhelming greed, are more important than their own survival.  If they are not in the process of destroying the rest of us along with themselves, I really wouldn't give a damn at this point.  Let them all destroy themselves, and good riddance.  But unfortunately, we will suffer and be eliminated along with them.  And right now, the truly greedy sociopaths, rich people like the Kochs, the Waltons and Sheldon Adelson, and the corporate rapists of Wall Street, seem to be so in control that there is just about nothing we can do about it.

Now, they have found one of their own, an egomaniacal billionaire, to pretend to be on our side, as if any sane person can buy into that malignant tale; and most of the ignorant, stupid Republican base seems to be buying into it.

Note: in fairness, I should reveal that one of my sons owned a VW diesel, which was unregisterable here in California, and would have been a massive loss, if a drunk driver had not run into it at 90 miles an hour on the 405.  Now, we don't know where we stand.  Thank heaven nobody was seriously hurt in the accident, but the car is history.

The Great Wildlife Refuge Seizure

Green Eagle advocates the Chernobyl solution:  Just cover the building in about eight feet of concrete, and forget about it for 75 years.
