Green Eagle Joins the War on Christians

As we are all aware, a persistent story has been swirling around the wingnut world for some years now: that liberals are waging a vicious war of oppression against Christians, particularly white Christians.

Well, how might that have happened?

I am old enough to remember when the image of a Christian in this country was Reverend Peters down at the Methodist Church running food drives and hosting the local boy scout troop, or kindly old Catholic Father Rooney (well, Father Rooney might have been up to a few not-so-kindly things with the altar boys, but we didn't know that at the time.)

That's not true any more.  While the millions of decent Christians did nothing, the name of their religion has been seized by a vicious pack of religious fanatics, many of them openly in support of forcing a theocratic dicatatorship on the country.  When you hear "Christian" today, you don't think of Albert Schweitzer or Mother Teresa, or even of almost moderate TV preachers like Billy Graham- no, what comes to mind is Ted Cruz, Michelle Bachmann, Pat Robertson, John Hagee and a thousand other half-religious, half-political figures in this country filled with hatred, racism and greed, and determined that the country shall be run their sick, undemocratic way, regardless of who objects.

And it doesn't help any that, as we watch the unabated horrors caused by Islamic fanaticism overseas, we see these home grown extremists adopting more and more of the same tactics and values that drove the Middle East into violent chaos.

Yeah, I admit it- I am against these "Christians" in a way that I would have never imagined a couple of decades ago.  But it's not because all of the decent Americans have suddenly decided to carry out a war of aggression against the poor little Evangelicals.  We are not the ones that have changed; they are.  They have voluntarily turned themselves from something seen as a positive force in our culture, to a subversive, irrational, hate-filled movement that deserves the opposition of any real American.

Ted Cruz, I Like Your Thinking There

Ted Cruz, proving once and for all that he just doesn't get it:

"We need to look to history to find out what works and what doesn't, and the one thing that is clear is that if Republicans run another candidate in the mold of a Bob Dole, or a John McCain, or a Mitt Romney [...] we will end up with the same result, which is that millions of people will stay home on election day..."

Didn't notice, did you, Ted, that the last time the Republicans ran a candidate like you (that would be Barry Goldwater) they got smeared in the election all over the country.  As I have been pointing out for years in my posts covering the tea party, the impeach Obama folks, the birthers and other right wing loons, there just aren't enough crazy people in the country by a long shot to elect someone like you.

And more importantly, didn't it ever occur to you that the rich guys own your party, and so they get their Republican nominee every single time?   Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush I, Dole, Bush 2, McCain, Romney...every one of them the choice of the rich guys..  And if you want to go back further, there's Taft, Harding, Coolidge, Hoover- exactly the same thing. I won't even talk about the palookas they put up against FDR. The last person the Republicans ran for President that bucked their rich backers was Teddy Roosevelt in 1904, and they never made that mistake again.

They've got their hands around your party's neck, and they aren't letting go.  I predicted a year before the last election that Romney was going to be the nominee, no matter how badly he was running at the time, because the rich guys always get their way, at least in that party.  I believe now that the overwhelmingly likely Republican nominee in 2016 is Jeb Bush, because no matter how preposterous the idea of another Bush in the White House might be, he's the one that rich people can most trust to run the country their way.  And that's all they care about.  They'd rather take a chance with Jeb than with a loon like Ted Cruz, who actually thinks he would be running to do something other than rob the country blind.

And by the way, I don't really like Ted Cruz' thinking about anything.  Cruz is a delusional sociopath brought up by his disturbed father to believe that he is God's choice to lead the American people into a theocratic dictatorship.  Even Hitler wasn't that delusional.

Impeachment! The Demand Swells All Over The Country

Or not.

As Is Green Eagle's custom, here is a selection of pictures from Impeach Obama Week II events all over the country, demonstrating, I think you will have to agree, just exactly how mighty this movement has become:

 Austin, Texas
 Bakersfield, CA
Edison, NJ
 Key West

 Norwich, NJ
Somewhere in Ohio.  Couldn't make it past the front lawn, huh?

And my favorite one of all, from Jacksonville, Florida:
Yes, this movement is such a miserable failure that they actually had to post a photo bragging about an event in which, apparently, nobody showed up.

All in all, a total visible attendance of 19 at seven events.  That makes the eight who showed up at the Simi Valley event Green Eagle attended seem like the crowds in Tiananmen square.

What is the word that describes a condition beyond pathetic?  I don't know what it is, but boy, it sure describes this movement.

And yet, at least 19 Republican members of the House of Representatives, a number equal to all of the protesters in the above photos, have openly advocated impeachment, and an overwhelming majority of Republican House Members voted to sponsor a bogus lawsuit against Obama which is widely seen as a precursor to an impeachment attempt after the election.

This entire "movement" is a perfect example of how Republicans and their sociopathic rich supporters generate a 100% synthetic appearance of a right wing groundswell to support what they want to do anyway.  Of course, if the captive mainstream press in this country were not utterly incurious about the validity of these endless deceptive games, this tactic wouldn't work, but there you go- as I have said so many times, Democrats could rip Republicans to shreds any time, but they cannot beat Republicans and the press working together.

Wingnut Wrapup

Let's just start out with this amazing scoop from Town Hall:

"Study Shows Liberals More Likely Than Conservatives to "Unfriend" Someone Over Politics"

They forgot to mention that the same study showed Conservatives are less likely to have friends that disagreed with them.

Byron York, Town Hall:  "OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- The image some conservatives have of Greg Orman, the wealthy businessman running as an independent against veteran Republican Sen. Pat Roberts here in Kansas, is that Orman is, in the words of a recent Weekly Standard story, a "vacuous cipher."

Which may be true.  On the other hand, that still beats the racist, corrupt jerk the Republicans are running.

John Ransom, Town Hall:  "The Petro-States in Shambles Despite Obama...Despite an administration that has no energy policy"

Of course, the minute a Democrat talks about an energy policy, wingnuts start screaming about Communism.  By the way, John, did you notice that Obama's nonexistent energy policy has resulted in turning the United States into an energy exporting country?

Kevin Rogers, Washington Times:  "Obama, White House stayed mum for hours as Canada terrorized"

Three hours!  He stayed mum for THREE HOURS as a lone gunman killed someone in another country!!!!

"An ally under attack demands a swift show of support and strong leadership; that was absent."

A swift show of support that would have accomplished...what?  THREE HOURS, I tell you!!!!  Not swift enough!  The outrage!

And How About Stupid Out Of Control?

Jonah Goldberg, Town Hall:  "The Good News About Offshore Oil Rigs...Never let it be said that Mother Nature doesn't appreciate irony. A new study led by researchers at Occidental College and the University of California at Santa Barbara has found that the oil platforms dotting the California coast are fantastic for sea life."

The good news about the Michael Brown killing:  When he bled all over the street, it provided lots of food for some flies.

D. W. Wilbur, Town Hall:  "Boys Don’t Play ‘Soldier’ Anymore"

And what a shame.  Never heard of paintball or airsoft, did you, D. W.?

Now, that's what I call playing soldiers.

Washington Times:  "Michele Bachmann threatened by Islamic State, assigned security detail: report"

Well, all I can say about this story is that if ISIS is stupid enough to think they could harm the United States by taking out Michelle Bachmann, they've got a lot to learn.

World Net Daily:  "Video: 'Violent thug' caught stuffing ballot box"

And here he is:

This story is all over the wingnut world today.  What the video shows is an absolutely non-violent, non-thug delivering absentee ballots for a number of people, in a manner totally consistent with State law in Arizona, where this happened.  The only person he was rude to was the real thug, a Republican who tried to stop him from legally delivering these legal votes.  One more fake vote fraud story to justify Republican vote suppression efforts, and the kind of people who read World Net Daily, or Gateway Pundit, or all the other right wing propaganda sites that carried this story, will never see the truth, needless to say.

And now the Republican tantrum of the day:

Moe Lane, Red State:  "The Arkansas Senate election is now over.  Arkansas Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor (D-AR) argued that the federal government’s desegregation of Arkansas’s largest public school in 1957 was an “unwilling invasion” that took “a local problem out of the local authorities’ hands..."

This story is flying around the wingnut world lately like a drunken vulture.  What they all fail to mention is that the words, from a paper Mark Pryor wrote in college, were a summation of the Southern argument against Federal involvement, which Pryor explicitly rejected as an unjust reaction to the necessity of Federal intervention.  Once again, as Mark Twain once said, the current Republican lie has flown around the world several times already before the truth can get its pants on. This is a perfect example of Republicans saving their most nauseating lies until the end of the campaign, when Democrats can't get the truth out in time.  Expect lots more of this kind of thing in the next couple of weeks.

Moe Lane, Red State:  "Harry Reid's Ebola Roulette:  "Specifically, the Surgeon General nomination.  Why is Vivek Murthy’s nomination stalled, again?  Well, as Byron York reminds us it’s primarily because Sen. Harry Reid  wants it stalled:  It would take just 51 of the Senate’s 55 Democrats to confirm Murthy. But that confirmation has not happened. “There is bipartisan opposition, so [Reid] hasn’t even tried to bring him to a vote,” says another senior Senate GOP aide."

Of course, it wouldn't take 55 votes because the Republicans will filibuster the nomination, as they have done several hundred times in the last few years.  Blaming the Democrats for the results of the Republicans' own seditious, corrupt behavior- it's all they have. Sad to say, it usually works.

Brad Johnson, Red State:  "The CDC and Ebola: A Tale of Failure and Incompetence"

Massive, I tell you, massive!  Incompetence that has left an American death toll of, let's see, how many now?  Oh yeah, zero.  Massive incompetence.

And now, a little burst of stupid hate from the right:

Paula Boyard, PJ Media:  "If Hillary Had a Daughter She Would Look Like Monica Lewinsky"

They can't resist being disgusting, can they?  I remember in the last Wingnut Wrapup some jerk accusing Liberals of loving filth.  Well, here's who really loves it.  By the way...  Doesn't Hillary actually have a daughter?  I don't remember her looking anything like Monica Lewinsky, do you?

And next, Jim Hoft, making sure he retains his title as the Dumbest Man On The Internet:

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "IL Poll Workers Break Law – Tell Obama to “Vote Democrat” at Chicago Polling Booth"

What an outrage!  Throw the guy in Jail!  He told Obama to vote Democratic!  And that is illegal campaigning in a polling place, not a mild joke!  I guess there is a lesson to be learned here:  all of their hatred, all of their venom, all of their viciousness, and this is all they have to base it on.  What a pathetic spectacle.  And you can't believe the idiocy of the dozens of commenters who really think this is a horrible crime.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "“Hands Off My Gun” by Dana Loesch – On Bookshelves Now "

Darn, some really good beach reading, and the summer is just over.

Carol Brown, American Thinker:  "Another American with Ebola discharged after six-week hospital stay...A case previously unpublicized. Doesn’t it just give you that warm fuzzy feeling to realize we’re only just now finding out about this?"

Maybe you are just now finding out about this, Carol.  The rest of us remember very well when he was flown back here from Africa.  Of course, you have to find some way to try to make Obama out to be a failure on the Ebola front, given that not an American has died here at home in the entire giant epidemic.

World Net Daily:  "2,000-YEAR-OLD STONE FOUND IN JERUSALEM"

In other news, bottle of Budweiser found in liquor store.

Matthew Vadum, American Thinker:  "Is ACORN behind violent unrest in Ferguson?"

Acorn disbanded in 2010, thanks to Republican sabotage.  So, the answer to Matthew's question?  Probably not.  But you never know, I guess.

Representative Steven King, R-Tex:  " 'I don't expect to meet' gay people in heaven"

With your record, buddy, what could possibly make you think you're going there?

And now, let's play "Stupid or Vicious:"

Paula Boyard, PJ Media:  "Why Is President Obama Running Around the Country Kissing Women?  Is it too much to ask him to keep his lips to himself at a time like this?"

Times like what?  Kissing women?  What women?  Man, their stock of Obama horrors has run thin.

Bruce Bialosky, Town Hall:  "To Have Sex or Not to Have Sex: That is the Question"

Gee, I wonder how most people are going to answer that one?

Matt Vespa, Town Hall:  "10-Year-Old Girl Proves Kids With Guns Does Not Always End In Tragedy"

Well, there you go!  The ultimate argument against gun restrictions- not every single time a kid touches a gun does a tragedy follow.

Robert Wargas, PJ Media:  "Smoking Bans Are More Dangerous Than Smoking"

Having your "personal freedom" to be addicted abridged is far worse than dying of cancer.

Alan Caruba, Renew America:  "What does it tell you when two medical professional behave in this manner (i.e. going bowling-GE)? It tells you that even those who know they can infect others were indifferent to the risk. It tells you that airport staff armed with thermometers are no defense against anyone coming in from the Ebola hot zone in Africa.

It tells you that the failure to impose a ban on all flights from West Africa should have been imposed weeks ago."

That damned Obama!  Of course (as Alan Caruba knows perfectly well) there are no direct flights from West Africa to the United States.  So much for that, right?  No, not when telling a lie enables Alan to attack Obama.

Ron Lipsman, American Thinker:  "What's the Difference Between a Gunman and a Terrorist?

"Gunman" = Christian murderer
"Terrorist" = Muslim murderer

Katie Pavlich, Town Hall:  "Suspected Terrorists From Africa Entering Canada...Through the U.S. After Living Illegally For Years"

After living illegally for years, during which they did absolutely nothing to link them to terrorism.  But still, "suspected terrorists."  The same way Obama is a suspected Kenyan.

Andrew Klavan, PJ Media:  "How the Left Hijacks Liberalism...I am a liberal myself. In fact, I became a conservative because I'm a liberal."

And I'm a human being because I am actually a gigantic toad.  This is the corollary to the famed discovery of Jonah Goldberg that Hitler was a left winger- apparently, right wingers are the ones who really brought the country Social Security, the eight hour day, medicare, civil rights legislation, and everything else decent in the country, while liberals only want to impose Communism on us.  There just is no lie preposterous enough for them to pass on it.

And let's just go out on this important question:

Cliff Kincaid, Renew America:  "Can marijuana fuel jihad?"

Yes, but only very, very slowly.   V e r y   s l o w l y.....Oh, did I fall asleep?

The Disgrace that is George Will

This is a story that has infuriated me for decades, so let me vent.

Do you remember Janet Cooke?  Probably not, so let me describe her in the words of Wikipedia:

"Janet Leslie Cooke (born July 23, 1954, in Toledo, Ohio) is a former American journalist. She achieved infamy when it was discovered that she fabricated a Pulitzer Prize-winning story for The Washington Post."

The story, which was published in 1980 about an alleged 12 year old Heroin addict, resulted in Ms. Cooke being fired from the Washington Post and her never being employed again as a journalist.

Maybe appropriate punishment, maybe not.  But then, Janet Cooke was female, and black.

Now for how a white male "reporter" was treated by the press at the same time.

In 1980, President Jimmy Carter was running for reelection against Ronald Reagan.  As normally happens when debate time comes around, Jimmy Carter's staff had prepared a "briefing book" detailing his positions on all the issues, and how he would respond to any particular line of questioning, which was used to prepare him for the debates.

Only, that time around, a copy of Jimmy Carter's briefing book was stolen and given to the Reagan camp.  That year, George Will was one of the people chosen to help prepare Reagan for the debate.  Will knew about the stolen briefing book, and used it to help Reagan get ready for the debates.  As a reporter, he never revealed this fact, and in fact never revealed  that he had anything to do with the Reagan campaign; he then went on TV as a commentator about the debates, and told the American people what a great job Reagan had done in the debates.

What Janet Cooke did affected no one and hurt no one.  What George Will did was undermine the sanctity of the American voting process, lie to the American people on a substantive issue, and do his part in placing in the White House the corrupt, venal man who set the country on the road to economic collapse 28 years later.  George Will's penalty?  Nothing.

Will should have been banished from any public role as a journalist for that miserable interference in our national politics, but don't forget- he is white and he is a Conservative, so, in the tradition we are so familiar with, he was permitted to do anything, no matter how despicable, to advance his party's goals.  Janet Cooke?  Too bad, but she was female, and she was black, so I guess she got what was coming to her.

Green Eagle Goes A'Marchin

So Green Eagle went to the only Los Angeles area gathering for Impeach Obama Week 2, in Simi Valley, home of the jury that acquitted the police who beat Rodney King.

It was quite the event, attracting an attendance of eight, pretty much par for the course for one of these things (that's not counting Green Eagle himself, of course- that would hardly be fair as he was not really an enthusiastic participant.)  Well, here's the evidence of the atrocity:

This is going to bring Obama down in short order, yes sir!   I included the last picture because it is of a guy who, when he found out that I didn't exactly agree with their notions, started proudly asking me a bunch of hostile questions revolving around whether I was Jewish.  As you can see, he was quite pleased with himself for this bit of analysis, since who could be against racism and hatred except a Jew?

Now for the math:  There are, let's say, about ten million people in the Los Angeles area, and eight of them showed up for this event; i.e. one for every 1.25 million.  That would work out, in the U.S. population to about 253 people which, given the turnout of 130 or so at the last couple of national Impeach Obama rallies, might not be far off.  In all fairness, I'm sure the ratio is much more favorable in Alabama or Louisiana, where raising stupid people has been long ago elevated to an art form, but still, I don't think that Barack has to start packing just yet.

I would like to add that, in some sense, Green Eagle is very proud of himself, because, after talking to three or four of these people, it became very clear that they all learned everything they ever knew about politics from reading Wingnut Wrapup.

Begging Letters

I wrote a post a few days ago about the endless barrage of panic-filled begging e-mails from Democrats all over the country.  There is something that I think I need to add to my comment about the combat fatigue these have caused in me.

I think what really has made me just tune all of this out is the fact that constantly squeezing Democratic voters for money has become a substitute for even the pretense of governing on behalf of the American people.

Where are the prosecutions of Wall Street?  Where are any signs of consequences for the Bush Administration's war crimes?  Where is any attempt to rein in the national surveillance state?  Where are even the Democrats (with only a couple of exceptions) who will stand forthrightly and say that they will never see Social Security or Medicare damaged?  We all know, in fact, that Obama was ready to cut Social Security and Medicare, for nothing in return except empty promises from Republicans who never keep their promises, and we know that there is no reason to believe that Hillary will be any better.  So instead, we are expected to cough up our money for campaign spots that endeavor to make Democrats seem just slightly better than Republicans, and will damage us just slightly less.

Where are we supposed to find a cause for enthusiasm in that?

Redneck Family Values

Coming fast on the release of the police recording revealing (to the four or five people in the world who didn't get it yet) what a pack of low life trash the former Republican vice presidential nominee and her family are, is this tragic news:

"TLC has pulled the plug on its hit reality show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo after reports surfaced that star "Mama June" Shannon is dating a convicted child molester, Mark McDaniel."
And here he is.  Of course, giving that it's Mama June we're talking about here, maybe that's the best she could do.

In a fine display of how seriously this sort of person really takes the endlessly repeated right wing blab about "family values," the adorable "Mama June" dumped the father of Honey Boo Boo a few months ago, and now has taken up with this guy, who just got out of prison for "forcing oral sex" on an eight year old.  The victim is apparently some sort of relative of Mama June, just to give things a little more of that trailer-trash flavor.

For the record, I've seen five minutes of the show, during which a pig pooped on their dining table while they were getting ready for dinner, so I am no expert, but I am distressed at the way that right wingers make people like these worthless low-lifes, or the Duck Dynasty con men, or Sarah Palin's trashy family out to be exemplars of what it means to be a real American.

Palestinian Hero

A Palestinian poster celebrating the heroic life of the guy pictured above.  Part of the text reads:  "The martyr hero Abd al-Rahman al-Shaloudi performs a sacred act of running over the settlers in occupied Jerusalem."

His act of bravery?  He deliberately killed a three month old Jewish baby with his car.  A sacred act.

Nelson Bunker Hunt

So Nelson Bunker Hunt seems to have died yesterday.  The essence of all the reporting on him seems to be that he was an oil billionaire, who inherited his money from his oilman father and in concert with his brother, lost most of it in a harebrained scheme to corner the world silver market, and then got a lot of it back.  The reporting, and the information easily available on the web sort of stop there.  Examine, for example, the Wikipedia page on him, which only devotes a couple of sentences to the real reason for remembering him, his brother and his father: their rabid right wing politics, backed up by massive amounts of their oil money.  In fact, the Hunts were the prototype for the malignant Koch brothers, who have taken upon themselves the right to do so much damage to the country today.
Hunt with his brother

Their father was an uneducated wildcatter who made a lot of money and left it to the brothers, along with their thirteen other siblings.  The Hunt brothers were also "privately" educated (i.e. they never went to school) and steeped in their father's beliefs, which were pretty much in alignment with the John Birch Society, with which he was involved, exactly like the Koch Brothers' father.  What none of the web sources that I saw mentioned, and what I think is the most important fact of all is that, between them and their father, the Hunts were the number one factor in the creation of right wing talk radio in the 1960's, financing both shows like the Voice of Americanism, and radio stations that carried their propaganda.  They were also among the creators of the Conservative "think tank;" their Western Goals Foundation being the grandfather of the Heritage Foundation, the American Enterprise Institute and countless other right wing propaganda mills following in their footsteps.
Daddy H. L. Hunt in front of his ludicrous J. R. Ewing style mansion

Thus, we get the current political climate in this country, where massive propaganda expenditures by a few billionaires pollute our electoral processes to the point where democracy is nothing but a pathetic fiction, and this is considered entirely acceptable.  These are the original Koch brothers, and although their malicious political career was cut short by their disastrous overreach in the silver market, they had blazed the path for the many rich sociopaths that have come after them.

Ebola Prompts North Korea To Bar Tourists

And once again, Republicans in the United States narrowly miss an opportunity to act just as irrationally as the world's most lunatic dictatorship.

Palin....

Just for the record, here is a link to the 27 minute police tape made at the scene of the brawl involving the Palin family a month or so ago.

Two comments, and then I'm out of here:

First of all, John McCain should be tied to a chair and forced to listen to this tape about a hundred times, until he is ready to face the sickening spectacle he unleashed on the American people.  Thank God she will never have a position of real power ever again.

And second, can you imagine the press circus if, say, Joe Biden's family was involved in such a disgraceful incident?  I do not believe I am exaggerating to suggest that it would produce wall to wall press coverage for two years, just like Clinton's blow job did, with Chris Matthews, Chuck Todd and all the rest of them declaring to the public that Biden must be driven from public life.  But in this case, oh that wacky Sarah and her wacky family.

It's Going Viral

I can't resist this.  It's the hottest song right now in Liberia, and as sick a joke as it is, the song is indeed going viral:

Well, I actually like it, even though it's not the kind of thing I usually listen to.  I'm happy to give the musicians a couple of hits.

An Unfortunate Confession

Which I feel called upon to make before election day:  I have been overwhelmed with e-mails with panic-stricken titles, begging me for money for candidates.  I don't know about you, but I'm receiving at least 40 to 50 a day.  I just can't deal with it, even though my interest in politics is obviously much greater than the average person's.  Except for a couple of names (e.g. Sherrod Brown, Elizabeth Warren) I just delete them en masse, resulting in my political contributions this time around probably being lower than in a normal election year.

Sorry, I'm only one person, and I just can't deal with it.  I suspect a lot of other people are feeling the same way.  Five hundred or a thousand begging mass e-mails are simply not a workable answer to the Koch brothers.  As long as elections are about nothing but who has the most money, we are screwed. We'd better find a way to take these anti-American rich sociopaths out of the picture, because they have seen to it that the whole rest of the country doesn't have enough money to compete with them when the whole game is about buying politicians.

Ebola crisis turns a corner as U.S. issues new treatment protocols

Yeah, that's the story.  At least in the mainstream press (the headline above is from Reuters,) which seems to be tiring already of its latest irrational scare story.  Ebola "crisis."  Which consists of exactly three cases- one person from Africa who died, and two people who got it from him, who seem to be on the road to pulling through.  Three cases and one death in a country of over three hundred million people.  So even on a random basis, your odds of getting it in this country seem to be about one in a hundred and fifty million.  Even the Powerball lottery looks like a good investment compared to that.

Let me remind you that, if this is an average day, over 1300 people will die in the United States from smoking-related causes.  And if you think Ebola is bad, you should watch someone die from lung cancer.

And this could be largely stopped immediately by a President with the honesty and guts to place tobacco on the schedule 1 narcotics list with other drugs that are addictive and have no medical use. That is where it legally belongs, but of course this is the classic case of corporate profits over human lives- hundreds of thousands of them a year, in this country alone.

Of the people, by the people and for the people...yeah, right.

The Press Rigs the Game

As we enter the last crucial couple of weeks of the 2014 Congressional campaign- crucial because lies told at this point can never be refuted in time for their falsity to sink in with the ignorant American voters, the mainstream press is demonstrating in classic form exactly how "liberal" it really is.

Three examples from just the last day:

This article from Reuters:

"President Barack Obama made a rare appearance on the campaign trail on Sunday with a rally to support the Democratic candidate for governor in Maryland, but early departures of crowd members while he spoke underscored his continuing unpopularity."

Now, the real story:  Obama made an appearance at a high school stadium in Maryland.  The eight thousand tickets sold out immediately, and many more people showed up than could be accommodated to hear the speech.  The extra people were put into the high school gym.  Obama, when he heard about this went to the gym and met personally with the people there.  After this, some of them left.  No one in the main crowd of 8,000, who greeted Obama with extreme enthusiasm, was seen leaving early.  The event was actually a great success for Obama, but was reported as a humiliating failure, in a deliberate attempt to beat down any Democratic groundswell.

And consider this report from Politico today, showing a cunning understanding of the significance of polls:

"POLITICO poll: Democrats in danger over Ebola...The survey underscores the dangers for Democrats in the midterms"

Once again, a report deliberately cast to make the Democrats' prospects in the elections look bleak.  Now, what was this based on?

"Voters who intend to support Republicans in the most consequential Senate and House elections this November had significantly less confidence in the federal government’s response to the occurrence of Ebola, according to a new POLITICO poll."

I see.  Democrats are in trouble because voters who have made up their minds to vote Republican have less confidence in the Government that other voters do.  Or, as Daily Kos explains it:

"To summarize: Politico poll found roughly 2:1 confidence to no confidence ratio on the government's Ebola response, with Republicans more critical than Democrats, and found that Democrats led Republicans in the horserace ... yet somehow they decided that what their poll really showed was that Ebola is a problem Democrats."

Once again, a story which is in general quite favorable for Democrats is presented as a disaster for them.  "Public strongly supports Obama's reaction to Ebola- Good news for Republicans."

Finally, here is the purportedly liberal (and definitely black) Tavis Smiley  agreeing wholeheartedly on national Television with Bill Krystol's claim that the Republicans are going to run the table in November:

And the hits go on- misleading, dishonest reporting designed to see to it that Democrats get to election day as discouraged as possible, and to provide cover for Republicans whose vote suppression and gerrymandering wins them elections in districts where the people do not agree with their piggish priorities.

As I have said so many times before, the Democrats can crush the Republicans without hardly trying, but they can't beat the Republicans and the press together.  Republican ownership of the mainstream press- one of the worst gifts brought to us by deregulation- the greatest scam ever played on the American people.

When This Guy Says It, You Can Trust Him

Something Green Eagle has said many times too.  I was going to complain that, for some reason, people listen when this guy says it, but ignore Green Eagle.  Then it occurred to me that no one really listens to him either- at least no one who can do anything about it.

The nation's number one case in point- WalMart:

"Walmart’s low-wage workers cost U.S. taxpayers an estimated $6.2 billion in public assistance including food stamps, Medicaid and subsidized housing, according to a report published to coincide with Tax Day, April 15."

That means that, every year, American taxpayers contribute $6.2 billion dollars directly to the Walton family- money that should be paid by the company, but we pick up the tab.

The six Waltons on Forbes' list of wealthiest Americans have a net worth of $144.7 billion.  Next year, at least $150.9 billion, I guess.

This Is Who These Idiots Give Us to Run Our Country?

No wonder the government is so screwed up.  I know, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover and all that, but really-here is a picture of  Missouri Republican Congressman Billy Long:

Boss Hogg was a joke when he was on TV.  It's not a joke when these ignorant crackers send him to Congress.

Wngnut Wrapup

Slim pickings these days from the wingnut blogs.  I guess they're trying to keep a low profile until they see on election day how many ignorant voters they conned into thinking they are decent human beings.  Oh well, count on them to not be able to just shut up altogether:

Daniel Doherty, Town Hall:  "Womp Womp: "One-Fifth" of Dems in Massachusettts Are Undecided"

Womp Womp?  What the hell does that mean?  Just how infantile are these people?

Rich Galen, Town Hall:  "Bibbidy-Bobbidy-Boo"

What's with these guys at Town Hall today?  Did somebody spike the punch?

And now, Republicans Focused on the Issues:

Roger Simon, PJ Media:  "The news is unrelentingly grim. Is the world approaching the End of Days?"

Yeh, that's it- the end days are coming.  That must be the explanation for everything. God, these people will pander to anyone, as long as they are stupid right wingers.

Charlie Spierling, Breitbart:  "Obama's Ebola Czar Ron Klain: Partisan Political Operative"

Obama does what they wanted and the attacks begin immediately.  As I pointed out in a recent post, Obama's only answer should have been that, when Republicans stop playing their sick games and approve a Surgeon General, there will be an "Ebola Czar."

Matthew Boyle, Breitbart:  "CRUZ: WE DON'T NEED OBAMA'S EBOLA CZAR, WE NEED A PRESIDENT WHO WILL LEAD"

So he did what they wanted, and overnight it became the wrong thing.  See my comment right above.

Warner Todd Huston, Breitbart:  "A passenger on a flight from Nigeria headed to New York's JFK airport died in flight after vomiting in his seat Thursday, causing panic on board and on the ground and spurring a Congressman to demand changes in U.S. Ebola protocols."

The guy didn't have Ebola.  He died of something else.  Nigeria is currently Ebola free.

Oh, there I go again with facts.  What do they have to do with anything?

Astute Bloggers:  "OBAMA, EBOLA AND .... MARTIAL LAW?  Will Ebola be the excuse to declare martial law and NOT to hold an election this year - and is this executive order a precursor?  President Obama authorizes call-up of National Guard, reserves if needed to address Ebola"

Martial law.  Right.  Just like it happens every time the National Guard is called up to fight forest fires or hurricane damage, or back in the good old days, White Southern race haters.

Astute Bloggers:  "HOW DEMOCRATS WIN ELECTIONS:SINGLE WOMEN.BLACKS.LATINOS.GOVERNMENT WORKERS.AND VOTER FRAUD.
WITHOUT VOTER FRAUD DEMOCRATS DON'T WIN ANY ELECTIONS"

When single women, blacks, latinos and government workers vote,  it is automatically fraud, because they are only people, and what's more they are people who don't do what they are told to do by their betters, so their votes don't count.  How Republicans win elections:  with billion dollar lie campaigns and blatant voter suppression.

Joseph Farah, World Net Daily:  "MY 5-POINT PLAN TO FIGHT EBOLA"

Let me guess- Point one: demand the birth certificate.

World Net Daily:  "John Hagee blames Ebola on Obama's Israel policy"

Another example of why religion is a malignant presence on the earth.

Michael Oberndorf, Renew America:  "Allah who? Aaacckk barf!"

More serious analysis from the right.  And believe me, the rest of the article didn't make much more sense than that.  Actually, maybe less.  I at least got the infantile, stupid, offensive point he was trying to make with the title.  The rest of it made no sense at all.

Leah Barkoukis, Town Hall:  "Report: Obama Planning to Bring Ebola-infected Foreigners to US for Treatment"

Report from where?  From Judicial Watch, our favorite source of lawsuits demanding that Obama must be thrown out of the White House and into prison.  Judicial Watch has this to say:

"One source tells us that..."

Whoops.  One (as usual, not to be named) source tells us.  I think that's all we need to hear about this particular right wing lie.

John Hawkins, Town Hall:  "Why I Oppose Barack Obama...We keep hearing from liberals that people who oppose Barack Obama MUST feel that way because of racism."

No, John, it's because of racism AND a stupid belief that Republicans are going to cut your taxes still going strong after decades of proof that they only cut the taxes of really rich people.

Not just racism- racism and greed.  That's pretty much why you hate Obama.

John Ransom, Town Hall:  "Please, Janet Yellen, Shut Up"

Can't handle the truth, huh?  I didn't even bother to see what Janet Yellin said this time, but if it caused that much outrage from paid right wing liars, it must have been a good idea.

Lloyd Marcus, American Thinker:  "Sorry, Blacks, You Can't Sit This Out..."Race loyalty" is an unacceptable excuse to support a black president"

It is, however, a perfectly valid reason for whites to oppose him.

Stephen Mazury, American Thinker:  "The Left Avows Its Ungodly Love of Filth"

Its love of filth.  It does this in California by banning plastic grocery bags.  And the motive is not to reduce non-biodegradable waste in landfills- no, it's much more than that:

"Not that it matters; the underlying motive isn't about saving energy or reducing waste.  Entrepreneurs operating in free markets will always provide the most agreeable, most efficient solutions where energy, waste, or anything else is concerned.  Tyranny is the real motive here"

Tyranny!  That's what it's all about!  First the plastic bags then the concentration camps!  Well, thanks for letting us in on the secret, Stephen.

Debra J. Sanders, Town Hall:  "I know Republicans who voted for Jerry Brown in 2010. They thought he'd be like Richard Nixon going to China and stand up to public employee unions by fixing a dysfunctional pension system..."

Right.  They thought he would screw the public employees of California in order to balance the budget, which was left grossly in the red by the last Republican governor. Well, here's something that Republicans never thought he would do:  balance the State budget without screwing working people. Debra forgot to mention that.  And by the way, it just shows how much Republicans really care about balancing the budget when that is not a dog-whistle term for screwing poor people.

Steve Chapman, Town Hall:  "Why Are Democrats Cozy with the Clintons?"

What, the last wildly successful Democratic President, who is the most popular politician in America, and the one Democrat who is destroying all Republicans in the 2016 Presidential polls?  Man, I can't figure out why they would even speak to them.

Now, need a little insanity with that?

Kathy Shaidle, PJ Media:  " Hippies Are (Still) Trying to Kill Us... Taking their cue from their totalitarian heroes, the hippies set out to murder us en masse."

Hippies.  As far as I can remember (and I did live at one point on the corner of Haight and Ashbury, and saw the Grateful Dead about 60 times- take it for what it's worth) all they wanted to do was get stoned and figure out a way to pay for a Stratocaster.  But I'm sure Kathy knows better.  They were actually all about mass murder.

May I point out that, while the hippies were mostly wandering around looking for a free concert in Golden Gate Park, the United States was busy killing between two and four million civilians in its criminal war in Vietnam.  There's some real mass murder for you.

Kathy mentions the following as proof that "Hippies" are homicidal maniacs:  Altamont, where Hell's Angels killed one man who had pulled a gun and was aiming it at Mick Jagger (i.e. neither hippies nor an unprovoked death,) the Manson family, which is guilty of eight known murders, and Ira Einhorn, who killed his girlfriend.  That's nine in about a decade of rampant Hippiedom, about equal to the number of people currently killed by police in this country every week and a half.  I guess the police in American are also about mass murder, only on a much bigger scale.

Well, I'm pulling the plug right there on this edition of Wingnut Wrapup.  I've got to go lay on my big beanbag chair, stare at my Jimi Hendrix blacklight posters and listen to Workingman's Dead.

Travel Ban Cowards

Just a brief comment on those Republican cowards who are spending their time demanding that Obama ignore the recommendations of the experts and impose a "travel ban" on people who have been to West Africa.

There are no direct flights between West Africa and the United States.  That means, for anyone to get here on an airplane from West Africa, they would have to fly through another country.  If we stopped them from the last leg of their flight here, all we would be doing is dumping the problem on someone else, and demonstrating to the world once again that that the governing principle of American life is "I've got mine- screw you."

It not only makes no sense; it constitutes a moral outrage.  Or in other words, standard Republican policy.

Impeach Obama Week!!!!!

It's here again!  Oh boy, it's been less than two months since the last one, which was, as is typical for these wingnut Woodstocks, a failure of monumental proportions.

Think they'll do any better this time around?  Green Eagle suspects not, but we shall see what we shall see.  I'll get back to you as soon as I have some humiliating pictures to show from this week's festivities.

Obama Caves to Republicans Again

So he is going to do what Republicans are demanding, and what, until this week they declared was one of the greatest alleged abuses of his Presidency, and appoint a Czar to oversee the three known cases of Ebola in the country.

There should have been only one answer from him:  The proper person to fill this role is the Surgeon General, and there will be one as soon as Republicans quit playing their sick political games and approve his appointment.  And the Surgeon General will take appropriate action and see to it that we are protected in the future as soon as the Republicans quit playing their sick political games and restore an appropriate level of funding to the National Institutes of Health.

Until then, he should make it clear that Republican "input" about this problem is not welcome.

Bartharbunga

I haven't mentioned the Icelandic volcano situation in quite some time, so I thought I'd write a short post just to let you know that it's still going on- earthquakes, lava, gas, all the usual.  Things are changing in minor ways as the lava gets blocked one way and flows another, but the reporting lately has been pretty technical- I can't absorb a lot of it, and I doubt too many people care about the geological details.  Anyway, the thing could go either way, or just go on as it is indefinitely.  If any real change takes place, I'll let you know, presuming anyone cares.

When Republicans Rule

Nikki Haley, governor of South Carolina, reacting to complaints about the Confederate flag that flies on Statehouse grounds:

“What I can tell you is over the last three and a half years, I spent a lot of my days on the phone with CEOs and recruiting jobs to this state,” the governor noted. “I can honestly say I have not had one conversation with a single CEO about the Confederate flag.”

Well, it's okay with the CEO's.  That solves that issue.

Surreal Moments in Debate Performance- Florida Edition

One of the greatest bits of theater of the absurd, courtesy of Florida Governor Rick Scott:

Scott is already doing a poor job of running for re-election, as befits an out and out criminal.  It was a sign of the stupidity of Florida's voters that he won the first time, but the mainstream press has already signaled that if he loses this time around, they will blame it all on this four minutes of non-debate, rather than the fact that he is a corrupt monster from a party of corrupt monsters.

Oh well, give it a look, it's pretty funny.

Update:  Here's the headline of Town Hall's coverage of this story:  "Charlie Crist Violates Debate Rules, Forces Debate Delay."  That's their story and they are sticking to it.

An Appropriate Democratic Response to the Ebola Outbreak in Texas

Which, of course, we will never hear in a thousand years:

Texas, one of the most Republican, Conservative States in the country, and consistently near the bottom of States in the quality of the healthcare services offered to residents, has made a conscious decision to favor the opportunities of the rich over the welfare of the vast majority of its people. The breaching of this nation's wall of protection against the Ebola virus took place in Texas, where the three known victims were located, and two of them infected and allowed to possibly spread the virus further, because of bungling by the inadequately supervised and financed Texas health care system.

In the meantime, Republicans are screaming for the appointment of a "Czar" to handle the Ebola situation, despite the fact that the person who should have been available to fill that position, the Surgeon General of the United States, does not exist because of Republican pandering to their right wing base on an issue that has nothing to do with the Surgeon General's duties or the health of the American people.

If this country does not reorient its priorities and start spending money on the general welfare instead of wars of aggression and giveaways to the hyper-rich, we will continue to join Liberia and Sierra Leone as the sort of third world nation where diseases like this can spread.  That is not really a concern of the Republican party if it interferes with profits, and as long as that party continues to exist, things like Ebola epidemics will become more and more a standard feature of American life.

Another Classic Example of Deliberate Misunderstanding of the Press' Role

Their role in degrading the political discourse of our country, always in favor of the Republicans.

This one revolves around Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell, who is in an almost unprecedented struggle to retain his Senate seat in Kentucky, and who has taken to simultaneously going around the State attacking Obamacare, while at the same time telling Kentuckians that they can keep their insurance under the wildly popular Kynect plan, which (contrary to his claims) is nothing but the Kentucky implementation of Obamacare.

There isn't really much to understand about this, is there?  However, it is apparently not only beyond the comprehension of the press, but is even too complex for liberal commenters to grasp.  Here is an analysis by Bryan Beutler in the New Republic, which I found because it is favorably covered at Daily Kos:

"The Media Is Ignoring McConnell's Obamacare Waffling Because They Don't Understand It...What’s particularly frustrating about McConnell’s irreconcilable ACA claims is that they would be politically damaging if the political press corps understood the nature of the deception. But unlike Grimes’ comments, which are just plainly absurd, laying McConnell bare requires a somewhat confident understanding of health policy and the system Obamacare promulgated in Kentucky."

As if it is the stupidity or gross ignorance of the press that causes them to misreport an issue that can be explained in a couple of sentences, and that a fifth grader could grasp.  How "confident" does your understanding have to be in order for you to understand that?

These people in the media are making false claims because that is what they are paid to do, thanks to Republicans who enabled the entire mainstream press to be bought up by the rich.  What is lacking here is not understanding, but a lack of decency and respect for the truth.  Everyone who writes about this, including the purportedly liberal writer at Daily Kos, knows perfectly well that the issue is so clear that no person could have any contact with it and not know the truth.  We are confronted with lying, not stupidity, and that is what keeps the evil, anti-American Republican party viable.

And thanks for playing your part in this charade, liberals.

And.....Heeee's Baaaaack!

And, as Green Eagle is always sad to lose a source of such unparalleled ridicule, a good thing too.

Ron Paul Solves the Ebola Crisis

Let me just talk about one of the stupidest things in the whole history of right wing stupidity:

Former Congressman and White Supremacist Ron Paul:

"Liberty, Not Government, Key to Containing Ebola"

That is going to work great, right?  Liberty, whatever the hell he means by that word this time around, is somehow going to substitute for the billions that it takes to develop a vaccine with no hope of any kind of financial return on the investment, and to mobilize the thousands that it takes to deliver it in an often hostile environment.  Well, let's hear more:

"President Obama's response to the Ebola crisis has been to send 3,000 troops to West African countries to help with treatment and containment. Obama did not bother to seek congressional authorization for this overseas military deployment. Nor did he bother to tell the American people how long the mission would last, how much it would cost, or what section of the Constitution authorizes him to send US troops on "humanitarian" missions."

Mr. Paul does not get around to explaining where the Constitution authorizes a President to lie the country into a three trillion dollar war, or deliberately allow the financial industry to decimate the economy.  I guess that is in the part of the Constitution which I have mentiond before, which is written in invisible ink which only right wingers can read.

"The people of Liberia and other countries would be better off if the US government left them alone. Leave it to private citizens to invest in African business and trade with the African people."

How, exactly, this is going to stop a deadly epidemic is not explained, nor is any clue given about what is going to motivate private companies, that won't even pay their workers a living wage, to spend billions stamping out an epidemic with no hope of a return on their investment.  Try explaining that to those legendary stockholders to whom the company has a fiduciary responsibility to see to it that they get every cent the company can extract from the world.   Former Congressman Paul continues:

"Legitimate concerns about protecting airline passengers from those with Ebola or other infectious diseases can best be addressed by returning responsibility for passenger safety to the airlines."

A suggestion which is so insane that it does not deserve a serious response, as is Senator Paul's parting shot:

"The Ebola crisis is also another example of how US foreign aid harms the very people we are claiming to help. Limiting government at home and abroad is the best way to protect health and freedom."

The exact mechanism whereby U.S. foreign aid caused the Ebola outbreak is not something that Mr. Paul cares to explain, of course.

This is the standard sort of brain-dead repetition of long disproved right wing cant, that passes for deep Conservative thinking.  These are the lies that are being used to destroy our country, while no one with a real voice will speak the truth.

Pretty Much The Story in Our Country

Republicans slashed the VA budget, and then blamed Obama when waiting times for an appointment got too long.

Republicans cut $500 million from the State Department's budget to protect foreign embassies and consulates, and then blamed Obama when one of them was attacked.

Republicans slashed money to the CDC for disease prevention, including funds to develop an Ebola vaccine, and now are blaming the Obama administration for it.

That's the way things work now, folks.  Just don't point any of this out in public- it just wouldn't be polite.

Hero of the Day

Bernie Sanders, because it apparently takes a hero to get on a TV talk show and state the truth:

"We are here today because of the disastrous blunder of the Bush-Cheney era, which got us into this war in Iraq in the first place, which then developed the can of worms that we're trying to deal with right now."

What the Hell is Going On in North Korea

-or-

Where in the World is Kim Jong Un?

If there is one thing those of us who read left wing blogs get used to, it is seeing the plain truth right in front of us, and finding that not one of the supposedly brilliant pundits and columnists (with the exception, of course, of Paul Krugman) is willing to say what is so obvious.

Here's another example.  Do I have absolute proof for what I am about to say?  No, I don't, but it is so overwhelmingly likely that I have no hesitation in stating that something very much like this explains the goings on in North Korea, for many years in the past, and right now.

What is vitally important to remember about North Korea is that it is a dictatorship, pure and simple, like those run by Gaddafi, Mugabe, the Saudi "Kings" and so many others.  The North Korean government may dress themselves up in the trappings of Communism, or some deranged sort of God-King cult, but in the end, all it really amounts to is a plain old garden variety dictatorship.

North Korea is also a horribly impoverished country that devotes an insane portion of its wealth to the military.  Now, here is something that we know without question about every dictatorship: a large part of this military expenditure ends up in the pockets of top politicians and generals.  Like all dictatorships, North Korea is a kleptocracy, with the "leaders" squeezing every drop of blood they can from the populace.

There is only one way to get the North Korean people to go along with this theft: by keeping them in such a constant state of quivering fear that they will tolerate their impoverishment- not, incidentally, unlike the tactics that Republicans in this country, well aware that no one really supports their agenda, have taken to using.

And that brings us to Kim Jong Un's role in this whole sick spectacle.  Is there anyone who could be so naive as to believe that all of these corrupt leaders, who are benefiting so massively from this system, would really put the continued success of their whole criminal scheme in the hands of a fat, out of control thirty year old of dubious intellectual capacity?  No, he has one role and one role only- to be the lead propagandist in keeping his people so terrorized that they do nothing to free themselves from this colossal fraud of a government.

This, incidentally, is why it is foolish to take all of North Korea's threats and saber rattling seriously.  None of it is intended for anything but internal consumption- the generals and politicians who benefit from things as they are know perfectly well that, if they started a war with the United States or South Korea or Japan, their country would be quickly wiped off the map, and they would be trading their mansions in on prison cells.  All they care about is to keep the scam going.

However, it has been clear the last couple of years that things are not going so well.  Kim is demonstrating that he is not capable of carrying out even his limited assigned task without developing delusions of grandeur in which he believes he is actually in charge of the country and can do whatever he wants, whether that consists in having his uncle and ex-girlfriend murdered, pushing the country into military confrontations that really could explode into war, or just eating lethal quantities of cheese, dropping dead and precipitating a power crisis which could topple the whole scheme.  This represents a threat to the real rulers of North Korea, and they cannot tolerate it.

I suspect that Kim is off being taught a lesson in just how fragile his current position really is, being shown that the country can get along just fine without him, that his current choice of number two leader and his own sister will quickly and willingly take up the gap that would be left by his disappearance.  If this is the case, he will reappear before too long, and basically the Korean government will pretend that nothing happened.  Kim will undoubtedly make an effort to control his behavior, given his knowledge of what the alternative is, but it is doubtful that he will really change that much, given what we have seen of him.  So, after being given another chance, he will, in a couple of years, disappear one way or the other, and things will go on as usual in North Korea, providing a sorry spectacle, but very little real risk to anyone else.

I want to end by reiterating something I said at the beginning:  Can there be any doubt that something very like what I have described above is what is really happening in North Korea?  And yet our mainstream press, trained as it is to assiduously evade the truth at every opportunity, can't even bring itself to make a straightforward statement like this.  What we are seeing is like the runup to the Iraq aggression, when not a single member of the press could bring themselves to report the truth about our own ignorant boy-king.  Well, luckily, what happens in North Korea will not represent the kind of disaster for us that Bush's behavior did, but relating to world events by systematically pretending that something else is happening is not a good way to prepare for the future.

Ebola! Texas! Panic!

It's certainly time to run around screaming in terror, now that one man in the whole country has died of Ebola!  Never mind the fact that in the last couple of weeks, twice as many black teenagers have been killed by the police in the St. Louis area alone.  That is far less of a problem than one Ebola death on American soil, don't you think?  We'd best reserve all of our howling panic for that.

Energy Industry Crimes Continue

And there is never a hint that anyone will ever be held responsible.  In the news the last couple of days, if by "in the news" you mean ignored by almost everyone in the press other than a few local papers and left wing blogs, is this story:

"California aquifers contaminated with billions of gallons of fracking wastewater...Industry illegally injected about 3 billion gallons of fracking wastewater into central California drinking-water and farm-irrigation aquifers, the state found after the US Environmental Protection Agency ordered a review of possible contamination.
According to documents obtained by the Center for Biological Diversity, the California State Water Resources Board found that at least nine of the 11 hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, wastewater injection sites that were shut down in July upon suspicion of contamination were in fact riddled with toxic fluids used to unleash energy reserves deep underground. The aquifers, protected by state law and the federal Safe Water Drinking Act, supply quality water in a state currently suffering unprecedented drought."

I suppose that we need not even consider the fact that the "unprecedented drought" that they're talking about is largely caused by global warming which in itself is the result of an out of control energy industry controlling corrupt, largely Republican politicians.

No, this time around, just consider the likelihood that anyone will face any meaningful consequences for deliberately poisoning the water supply of millions of people, in a clearly criminal act.  People should spend the rest of their lives in prison for this behavior; the most we can ever expect is a few utterly inconsequential fines, and the government will be unlikely to even collect those, in the face of millions of dollars of litigation.

You know what?  I don't even have the energy to draw the obvious conclusion from this story.  You all know it perfectly well, and I don't have to waste your time saying it for the millionth time.

Things that Aren't Worth Mentioning

The budget deficit for the coming year's proposed Obama budget will be one third the size of the deficit under the last Bush budget.

IN OTHER REALLY BIG NEWS, DEMOCRATS ARE OUT OF CONTROL SPENDERS SO WE NEED TO ELECT REPUBLICANS TO KEEP THIS COUNTRY'S SPENDING UNDER CONTROL!!!  EVERYONE KNOWS THAT!

Kim Jong Un- Could It Be True?

Rumors are circulating that Kim Jong Un has had to take time off to supervise the installation of his own personal Velveeta machine adjacent to his bedroom.
Could this photo be the proof?

The Paranoid World of the Border "Militias"

I don't want to belabor this, but here is a great article  from Dave Niewert, at Crooks and Liars, which really reveals the alternate reality in which these violent play soldiers live.  For years now, Niewert has been the best generally available source of information about the border militias, including his great book on Shawna Forde, And Hell Followed With Her.

And here is a picture from Niewert's article, showing a couple of these pathetic wankers:
I think this pretty much says it all.  How would you like to have these brain-dead losers take for themselves the right to decide if you lived or died?

The only thing I would like to add to Niewert's story is that, when these people handcuffed and "detained," i.e. kidnapped some of these people, the police and Federal agents did nothing.  I guess even kidnapping is okay if you are a right winger.

The Supreme Court giveth, and the Supreme Court taketh away...

That's how Daily Kos describes what happened today- the court, by the usual 5 vote right wing margin, legalizing the Republican party's thievery of the vote in North Carolina, just days after it allowed laws legalizing gay marriage to stand.

It is vitally important to understand what has happened here, with these two decisions which seem to come from totally different places on the ideological spectrum, because they do not come from any place on the ideological spectrum at all.

First, as to what the Supreme Court gave:  can anyone possibly be so naive as to believe that these five Supreme Court justices, the Republicans in Congress, and the people who pay to keep them there, really give a flying fuck about gay marriage?  What they gave was something that meant nothing to them- all they care about is money and power, and a gigantic marriage of every gay person in the country to every other gay person wouldn't threaten that.  Which brings us to the "taketh away" part.  What they are taking away is the right of ordinary people to vote.  That does mean a lot to them, and their campaign to destroy democracy in this country.

I say that none of this comes from anywhere on the ideological spectrum because it is not about ideology, it is about the naked theft of the wealth and power of the United States.  These justices, and the people behind them, care about nothing but that, and whatever the political spectrum amounts to, greed is not to be found along it.

I have said this before:  I am a firm supporter of gay marriage, legalized marijuana, etc.  But I will not trade democracy for these things.  And that is the con that these five corrupt Supreme Court justices pull on people over and over again, with no one in Washington willing to stand up to them and call out their criminality.

The Dumbest Republican Conspiracy Theory In Months

Republican (I guess that goes without saying) Congressman Tom Cotton:

"Groups like the Islamic State collaborate with drug cartels in Mexico who have clearly shown they’re willing to expand outside the drug trade into human trafficking and potentially even terrorism.

They could infiltrate our defenseless border and attack us right here in places like Arkansas."

Right.  Because there is nothing that Mexican drug cartels want more than to see a highly increased U.S. law enforcement presence on the border.  That will be just great for business.

Left Behind

So the new adaptation based on the religious exploitation novel "Left Behind,"  starring Nick Cage, managed to gross $6,300,000 its first weekend.  Well, that's a lot more than Atlas Shrugged part anything made, but only barely more that the Nick Cage classic piece of trash, Drive Angry, which managed to gross $5,200,000 its first weekend, with a story featuring a simultaneous gun fight and sex scene as one of its highlights.  Nick playing a guy who escaped from Hell is just about as popular as Nick pimping for the Christians.  Of course, Drive Angry was a better movie, from all that I've heard.  I have no intention of going to see Left Behind, although I must, for full disclosure, admit that I worked on Drive Angry, which almost made it worth being in Shreveport.

Czar

From the Washington Examiner, via Daily Kos:

"Rep. Jack Kingston, R-Ga., said Saturday that while he "hate[s] to invoke the term 'czar,'" President Obama needs one to combat the spread of the deadly Ebola virus."

Jack, maybe this never occurred to you, but there is such a person available.  He's called the Surgeon General.

Or, at least there would be if you and your fellow Republicans, in your frenzy to destroy everything Obama tries to accomplish, hadn't spent the last year or so refusing to approve the appointment of a new one.

Another Step in the Sinking of the United States

And a step that has been going on for decades now, very successfully.  It involves an ongoing campaign by Republicans to cram down the throats of the Senate, Supreme Court nominees who are bought and paid for by the rich and who enter the court with an unacknowledged commitment to rule in favor of corporations and the rich, no matter what the law says.

An opinion piece by Eric Lewis in the New York Times today dances around this fact, without, of course, ever daring to state the real truth:

"The direction of the Supreme Court under Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. over the past decade has been anything but consistent. As the court readies itself for another term, it may not be possible to speak of a Roberts court jurisprudence at all.

But we are not completely in the dark about who is likely to be granted legally enforceable rights and who is not...The Roberts court has already charted a course in which rights are extended to those who have real clout in American society and denied to those who are more marginal. In two critical cases, Citizens United and Hobby Lobby, the court decided by a 5-to-4 vote that corporations had broad rights of speech and of religion, which left corporate owners in a position to trumpet their political and religious views while diminishing or even silencing other voices."

But of course, the direction of the Supreme Court, led by the twisted, corrupt reasoning of Antonin Scalia has been entirely consistent.  Granted, it is not consistent with the history of American jurisprudence, nor with any known ideology, either right or left leaning.  What consistency it most decidedly displays is a determination in every case to twist the law to the benefit of the rich.  And it need not even be American rich people.  The article continues, in a warning that I made on this blog the day after the Citizens United decision:

"The Supreme Court’s decision said nothing about the interests of the corporation or the identity of its stakeholders. Chinese or Russian shareholders could gain control of an American corporation and use shareholder funds to influence elections in the United States. According to the court, money is speech, and once it is corporate money, it is laundered of its foreign taint."

Here is a similar article recently published in the Los Angeles Times, that recognizes that something is wrong with the Supreme Court, but again fails to muster the courage to point out what is obviously going on:

"The Supreme Court led by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. showed again this year that it is playing a long game, writing opinions that move the law in small but steady steps in a conservative direction.

Many rely on well-established rights, such as freedom of speech and free exercise of religion, but extend those rights for the first time to corporations, wealthy donors and conservatives who bristle at what they view as liberal government mandates, from paying union fees to offering birth control to female workers."

I want to reiterate that it is not Conservative, nor is it part of any ideology, to mindlessly favor the rich, and to continue to fabricate patently lirrational arguments to justify that favoritism, knowing that there is not a damned thing that anyone can do about it.  This is not ideology; it is corruption.

This corruption was revealed in all its ugliness with the Bush v. Gore decision which, in its essence, ruled that it would be too mean to the Republican candidate to let the Democrat win simply because he got more votes.  And the ability of Republicans to get away with this behavior was sealed when not one single Democrat had the devotion to our country to point out that the five Justices who gave us that colossal disaster had just committed the worst act of judicial corruption in the history of our country, and must be removed from the court for their high crime.  Now we have a judicial majority on the court that doesn't care at all if its decisions rely on any rational argument at all, or if they are in any kind of accord with over two centuries of settled American jurisprudence.

So, while the mainstream press is fixated on the far less consequential issue of who will control the Senate for the next two years, until the inevitable Democratic landslide in 2016, no one dares contemplate the fact that five corrupt judicial appointees are working every single day to destroy the country that has existed since the eighteenth century, and replace it with a place where unrestrained greed and avarice are the only rules- a place in which maybe a thousand or two thousand people are winners, and the other three hundred million of us are losers.

A Little More:  Thinking about this, I have a little more to say- I don't think I was blunt enough.  What is going on in the United States today is not an ideological battle between left and right.  It is a slow motion coup, and at the present time I can't figure out how it will ever be stopped, as long as Democratic leaders refuse to confront reality.

Fun from North Korea

A fairly recent video of Kim Jong Un visiting some sort of museum, which someone posted to show him limping, as has been reported.  I don't give a hoot about that, but I just love the voiceover.  So sue me.

Wingnut Wrapup

Well, we've got to read something to cheer us up while we're all waiting to get Ebola.

Brad Jackson, Red State:  "Government, Hospital Fumble Handling of Ebola Spread in Dallas"

The hospital is part of   Texas Health Resources, " one of the largest faith-based, nonprofit health care delivery systems in the United States..."

Faith based.  And how is this the government's fault?  Well, isn't everything?

Repair Man Jack, Red State:  "Progressivism will lead to the rise of neo-fascism...The current, dying state of Europe is our warning that the world must be saved from Progressivism. That starts at home. That starts with the election of 2014. By killing the human spirit, Progressivism reduces societies braced by vibrant and sustaining cultures into dystopias of brain-washed, homogeneous diversity"

Oh come on, guy.  At least try to make sense.  Well, I guess that's what you get when you hire a repair man to write about political philosophy.

Frank J. Fleming, PJ Media:  "Now, I want to note that I don’t mean this analogy to be disrespectful to President Obama. But I think most historians will back me when I say his presidency is the equivalent of a dumb child running into tables."

Oh no, he didn't mean to be disrespectful in the least.  Another recent article by Frank J. Fleming:

"What if One Day We Get a Bad President?  The consequences of being saddled with a non-progressive, dumb chief executive are too horrible to imagine."

Sad to say, Frank, we don't have to imagine that.  It already happened.  Remember now?  It wasn't that long ago.  You know what, guy, you should shut the fuck up.  No, seriously.

Roger L. Simon, PJ Media:  "In Praise of Benjamin Netanyahu"

Boy, there's one article that nobody is going to get me to read.  Netanyahu- Newt Gingrich in a yarmulke.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "State Dept. Criticizes Former Pot-Smoking ISIS Terrorist… Do They Know Who’s in the White House?   President Barack Obama was a pot-smoking party boy who turned away from his childhood Islamic upbringing."

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.  Obama is an ISIS terrorist too.  That's why he's bombing the hell out of them.  And Jim is so stupid and so lost in his Conservative fog that he doesn't even realize that, to the vast majority of Americans, smoking pot proves that Obama is normal, and not just one more of the political robots that Republicans specialize in.

Clenard Childress, Renew America:  "Bamboozled or just plain traitors?"

This is an article about- get ready for it- Planned Parenthood.  Traitors.  Really.  It doesn't take much to be a traitor these days.  Unless you are a Republican, in which case giving 2,000 missiles to our enemies or revealing the identity of secret agents for political gain, or deliberately undercutting the nation in dangerous foreign situations don't even count.

Roger Ogden, Renew America:  "Announcing National Impeach Obama Week II...Large and small protests are encouraged all across the Nation. "

Well, small protests anyway.  Last time they tried this, way back in August, they averaged about 6 people per protest.  Any bets on how they do this time?
A typical massive crowd from the last National Impeach Obama day

World Net Daily:  "Bush on ISIS: 'I know the nature of the enemy'

This from the guy who looked into Vladimir Putin's eyes and knew he was someone we could trust.  Take it for what it's worth.

Mona Charen, Town Hall:  "There's really only one thing that progressives get wrong: human nature."

That's why progressives are doing so poorly with women, Mona.  Thanks for pointing that out to us.

Mark Skousen, Town Hall:  "Consumer Spending Causes Economic Growth?"

Of course not.  According to Mark, all economic growth is caused by the "producers," i.e. those benevolent rich people.  The fact that people buy your product has nothing to do with the success of your company.  That's just a liberal lie.

Leon H. Wolf, Red State:  "Meghan McCain is a Spoiled Harpy"

Just thought you'd like to know.

Kristinn Taylor, Gateway Pundit:  "PHOTOS: Dallas Crews Clean Up EBOLA VOMIT Without SUITS!"

Actually, they were washing the sidewalk outside the ebola victim's apartment five days later.  Ebola virus has a life outside the body of 4-6 hours.  But panic everyone, panic!  That's the answer.  A commenter on this post helpfully provided this illustration:
Okay...let's just move on here.

World Net Daily EXCLUSIVE!  "Michael Savage blames 'President Obola' for virus in U.S...Savage who has a doctorate in epidemiology, said Obama refused to employ the basic epidemiological rule of quarantining a deadly virus, “because the far-left agenda is to have an open-borders policy.”

I just thought I would report this story, which is appearing at various sites around the wingnut world today, because Michael Savage does not have a doctorate in epidemiology.  He actually does have a doctorate, but it is in ethnomedicine, the study of folk medical practices.  Not quite the same thing, but don't worry- it's only a little lie by Conservative standards.

World Net Daily:  "Dogs eating Ebola victims, spreading epidemic"

Just in case you are not in a big enough panic already.

World Net Daily:  "Man with 'Arabic accent' roams school hallways"

Oh my God, head for the hills!!!  I just hope he hasn't been eating any dogs.  This could turn out to be like something out of Night of the Living Dead.

Astute Bloggers:  "WILL THIS BE BARRY'S LEGACY?"

No, I don't think so.  No matter how much you wish it were.  His legacy will be giving health care to ten million people, not causing them to die.  Sorry about that, I know how disappointed it makes you.

Astute Bloggers:  " WHETHER OBAMA READ AND IGNORED THE PDB'S, OR DIDN'T READ THEM, THE REMEDY IS THE SAME: IMPEACH OBAMA FOR MALFEASANCE

REPEAT: IT DOESN'T MATTER IF OBAMA READ AND IGNORED THE PDB'S, OR IF HE DIDN'T READ THEM, THE RESULT IS THE SAME AND THE REMEDY IS THE SAME:  CONGRESS MUST IMPEACH OBAMA FOR MALFEASANCE."

Whether he is guilty or not!  They must impeach him.  MUST, MUST, MUST!!!!!  Waaaaaahhh!

Charles Krauthammer, National Review Online:  "What a Republican Congress Could Do"

This?

Kristin Tate, Breitbart:  "Children Walking Freely Near Ebola Patient's Apartment Appear Unafraid"

Will the horrors never end?  The article continues:

"The residents seen walking nonchalantly around the complex appeared to have no fear of the virus. One child was even heard saying, "I'm not afraid that anything is going to happen to me."

Well, apparently that makes them smarter than Kristin Tate.  Not much of an accomplishment, unfortunately, when you think about it.
