Wingnut Wrapup

Yes, again.  They won't stop because they are too stupid and vicious, and Green Eagle won't stop because he's too stubborn.  And because he's a parrot.  Did you ever try to shut up a parrot?  Fat chance.

So, here we go:

Daniel Doherty, Town Hall:  "Obamacare is an "Inequality Godzilla"

What the hell does that mean?  I guess they have just run out of even their usual pathetic arguments against Obamacare, so now they are reduced to just stringing scary words together and hoping they can inspire panic in the lizard brains of their followers.

Daniel Doherty, Town Hall:  "McCain: Thanks for Censuring me, Now I Feel Even More Motivated to Run in 2016 "

Oh, please!  Please let the Republicans nominate this senile old fool to run against Hillary.  That would be almost as much fun as if they go with Ted Cruz.  Think McCain would pick Sarah Palin again?

Ben Shapiro, Town Hall:  "How Hollywood Is Killing Same-Sex Marriage"

This is about how the same sex marriages at the Grammys destroyed people's support for same sex marriage.  First of all, Ben, the Grammys are not Hollywood.  Leaving that aside, I wonder how many people that want to be married will now say, "no, I've changed my mind because of something that happened at the Grammys."  Man, what delusional thinking from this puerile little jerk.

Charles Payne, Town Hall:  "Can a man who once owned the world's largest sailing yacht claim to be a victim of discrimination? Well, when it comes to Tom Perkins, the answer is yes."

Yes, he can claim it.  However, he's just making himself look like one of the biggest jackasses in history when he does.

Thomas Crown, Red State:  "Small Businesses Don’t Add Jobs Because Government Makes Doing So Stupid.  Monday, I paid a couple of hundred dollars to the Internal Revenue Service for a penalty on a penalty that I should never have been assessed."

No, Judge, I'm innocent.  Who you going to believe, me or those Federal agents?  By the way, this entire column was devoted to some incomprehensible explanation of why Mr. Crown shouldn't have to pay a tax penalty.  Apparently he ran out of room before he got around to telling us why small businesses aren't adding jobs because of government.  Maybe next time.

PJ Media:  " What Constitutes Reasonable Definitions of Lawlessness, Dictatorship, and Tyranny?"

Anything that Democrats do.  That was simple.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Baby Born on I-285 in Atlanta in Snow Traffic...Last night Barack Obama said, “Climate change is a fact.”

A baby was born in the snow.  To right wingers, that's all the proof they need that the 2900 peer reviewed scientific papers verifying global warming last year are all nonsense.

Barry Farber, World Net Daily:  "Obama's purge of generals: Just like Stalin's"

A very interesting historical analysis, with only one slight flaw:  Obama didn't purge any generals.  Other than that, right on.  Oh, except that Stalin killed a lot of his generals too, and I haven't really heard that Obama killed anyone.*  But otherwise, spot on, Barry.

World Net Daily:  "Egypt's Morsi in rage-filled rant during trial"

I see a career for him in right wing talk radio.

Richard Butrick, American Thinker:  "Did D'Souza Hit a Nerve?"

When we last saw Dinesh D'Souza (well, not the last time- that was when he got fired from his million dollar job as President of a right wing Christian phony university, for having sex with the students) he was pushing his theory that Obama's attitudes were all a result of being brought up in Kenya by his Socialist father.  Of course, none of that happened, but now Dinesh D'Souza has been indicted for electoral fraud, which absolutely proves that his lunatic theories were true, even though they weren't.  Well, there you go- life in the Conservative world.

Derrick Wilburn, American Thinker:  "Spot the Black Dummies...When said of conservative Republicans its apparently harsh truth, but when said of liberal Democrats, its utter racism"

Finally, a Conservative that tells the truth!  Praise the Lord!  Oh wait, I think he was just venting his spleen in a fit of low-level sarcasm.  Believe Green Eagle, Derrick, who knows sarcasm: you need a lot of practice before trying this out in public.

Newsmax:  "Dick Morris, Allen West Respond to Obama"

Oh God, not that! Dick Morris and Allen West all at once? Green Eagle can take a lot, but that is really going too far.  Of course, this is on the same page as an article entitled "Bible Verse Contains Hidden Healing Code."  I guarantee, you will get just as much truth from either one of these articles.

Susan Duclos, Before It's News:  "Cops Terrified, Demon Child Walks Backwards Up Wall And More In Indiana"

Indiana.  Well, then, okay, I guess I understand.  And as long as the demon child stays in Indiana, fine with me.  The article continues:

"Either each and every witness is very superstitious, we are witnessing mass hysteria and mass hallucinations or we have an account, citing multiple official sources and witnesses, of a true family possession and demons openly attacking innocents and showing themselves blatantly."

Or else there is this possible explanation:  The whole story is a cheesy phony, concocted to fool the sort of dimwits who read "Before It's News."  What do you think?

Bill McMorris, Washington Free Beacon:  "Major Dem Donor’s Company to Benefit from Minimum Wage Hike...Costco, whose CEO is a prominent Democratic Party fundraiser, will directly benefit from the 40 percent minimum wage increase proposed by Sen. Tom Harkin (D., Iowa) and embraced by the president in his State of the Union address..."

And how will this corrupt example of cronyism happen?

"The wage hikes will not impact Costco, whose employees’ starting wage is more than $11 per hour, but it will drive up the labor costs for nearly all of Costco’s competition."

The bastards!  What a sleazy trick!  They're already paying more than the proposed minimum wage!  How could anything so unfair be allowed?  Anyway, here's a little more:

“At Costco, we know that paying employees good wages makes good sense for business,” (Costco CEO Craig) Jelinek said of the BFMW petition in 2013. “Instead of minimizing wages, we know it’s a lot more profitable in the long term to minimize employee turnover and maximize employee productivity, commitment, and loyalty. We support efforts to increase the federal minimum wage.”

The vast majority of retailers do not share Jelinek’s optimism about the economic benefits of increased labor costs."

Optimism.  We foolish liberals call it common human decency.

Before It's News:  "100+ Reports Of Fireball Over Midwest"

Whoops- someone got loose from Skyrim.

Kim Zigfield, PJ Media:  "Massive Russian Spying on Americans and American Companies"

Gee, I wonder what other country might be doing the same sort of spying on Americans.

Joseph Farah, World Net Daily:  "Why Obama's eligibility is still important"

Because they've got nothing else.

Jeannie De Angelis, American Thinker:  "Michelle Obama Wore an 'a-what-a?' to the SOTU...The nation is a mess, and this woman shows up in haute couture?'

What should she have worn, jeans and a t-shirt?  I suspect that in Jeannie's eyes, no black woman has a right to dress nice, because they are all moochers on welfare, even Michelle.  Could you even imagine Jeannie complaining if First Lady Anne Romney wore an expensive dress to the State of the Union address?

*Well, except for the 23 people on this list, I guess.

Proof that Pope Francis Is Better Than His Predecessors

Green Eagle rests his case.

Update:  Of course, this is all it took to provide an opportunity for right wingers to direct an endless series of vicious invective against this slightly left of average Pope.  Here's a link to a Daily Kos article with some of the hatred unleashed by a photo of the poor guy holding a parrot.  Man, we are saddled in this country with a whole lot of sick, perverted people.

The Only Good Indian

Is a dead Indian.  Remember that lovely saying?  Well, apparently, when it comes to Muslims, even being dead is not good enough:

"A Tennessee congressman recently called it “unfortunate” that state laws allowed a local mosque — a victim of arson that gained national attention several years ago — to build a new cemetery on its grounds.

Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-TN) took to Facebook last Friday to inform his constituents that he had heard their concerns about the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro being permitted to construct a cemetery on its grounds loud and clear and shared their worries.

“Friends, I have received numerous calls over the last couple of weeks regarding the Murfreesboro mosque cemetery,” DesJarlais wrote. “Although this is a state issue, I am deeply concerned over the impact it might have on our community.”

He is "deeply concerned" over the impact it might have on his community, if some dead Muslims are buried there.  And what impact might that be?  Are they going to spread cholera?  Are they going to turn into zombies and eat the good, God-fearing Christians who live in Murfreesboro?  What, exactly, is the danger posed by the presence of a Muslim cemetery?

No one (least of all Scott DesJarlais) seems to have an answer for that,  but still, here's an opportunity to stir up fear and hatred in their ignorant, racist base, and when did a Republican ever turn his back on that?

Something Is Wrong

A nice chart, courtesy of Atrios:

One more sign of how truly terrible things are in the Greatest Country On Earth.  As if you needed more evidence.

And just remember, the next time some jerk tries to tell you that racism doesn't exist in this country, that George Zimmerman is not a part of this statistic.

Oh, That's Just Great News...I Guess

Here's some news about the formaldehyde found in the water in West Virginia after the Freedom Industries chemical spill:

"An environmental scientist in West Virginia said in a Wednesday legislative hearing that water samples he had taken from a downtown Charleston site contained formaldehyde—and that this had convinced him not to drink the water. The scientist, Scott Simonton, attributed the findings to a byproduct of the Jan. 9 Freedom Industries' spill of MCHM, a coal-cleaning chemical.

Early Wednesday evening, the state Department of Health and Human Resources issued a statement that called Simonton's comments regarding formaldehyde "totally unfounded" and said his testimony "does not speak to the health and safety of West Virginians."  Dr. Letitia Tierney, commissioner of the Bureau for Public Health, said Wednesday evening that the chemists the state had consulted with all said the formaldehyde could not have come from the MCHM."

Oh, okay, the formaldehyde comes from another chemical spill, I guess.  It would have never been noticed, presumably, if it weren't for the Freedom industries spill.  That certainly is comforting.

The state of environmental enforcement being what it is, maybe we should all have coal cleaning chemicals poured in our water- apparently that is the only way we will ever discover whatever other poisonous chemicals we are drinking.

More Wonderful News

This is just bound to reassure you that you are in safe hands:

"WASHINGTON (AP) — Air Force Secretary: 92 nuclear officers implicated in proficiency test cheating scandal."

Maybe when they all get kicked out, they can get jobs running the Fukushima cleanup.

Waxman to Retire

It is with considerable sadness that I report the announcement that Representative Henry Waxman, who, over his career has been one of the most consistent and outspoken defender of liberal values in the House, has announced that he is retiring at the end of this term.  This is a safe Democratic seat, but there are Democrats and Democrats.  Given the sort of weak Congressmen who have represented adjacent Democratic districts, it is very unlikely that Waxman's replacement will be anything like his equal.

Wingnut Wrapup

I must say that the wingnuts have been particularly boring the last few weeks.  Well, here is the best of a bad lot, today dedicated to the great Republican patriots in Arizona who voted to censure their Senator, John McCain, for not being conservative enough:

Daniel Doherty, Town Hall:  "New Study: It’s Cheaper for Young People to Opt Out of Obamacare than to Enroll"

Until they get sick.  Come to think of it, it's cheaper not to have health insurance than to have it, until you get sick.  That's sort of how health insurance works, dumbass.

Conn Carol, Town Hall:  "How Should Conservatives Respond To Obamacare's Medicaid Expansion?"

By hating the black guy, of course.  That's how Conservatives respond to everything these days, isn't it?

Bob Owens, Bearing Arms:  "The Barrett effect: it’s time to stop selling firearms to government agencies in California"

Hey, I thought the right of the people to bear arms should not be abridged?  Oh, I guess that was the right of Conservative people to bear arms.

Alan Caruba,Renew America:  "Obama's State of the Union speech will be all lies"

I guess he sent you a copy in advance, huh, Alan?

And a classic example of Republicans trying to whitewash Bush by accusing Obama of everything Bush did wrong:

Michael Maloof, World Net Daily:  "Obama called for war based on bogus intel"

Ha.  Sound familiar?  Of course they're lying about Obama, but I think some recent President spent $3 trillion lying us into war not that long ago.

Jack Minor, World Net Daily:  "Retired Maj. Gen. Paul E. Vallely, chairman of Stand Up America, has just unveiled the liberals’ worst nightmare, a plan to unite the tea party into a vast army..."

I'm shaking in my shoes already.  A vast army of what, mental defectives?

And man, is World Net Daily on a roll today:

World Net Daily:  "Rock star unloads: Obama a 'subhuman mongrel'

That should read "pathetic ex- rock star from long ago, now desperate for any attention he can get."  And you know who I'm talking about.  After all, he's the only right wing ex-rock star in the country.
Cortney O'Brien, Town Hall:  "Bristol Palin: Wendy Davis' Story is 'Downright Pathethic'"

Like we really care what the daughter of a failed media whore, whose own personal greatest accomplishment was becoming a single mother as a teenager, thinks about anything.

Katie Pavlich, Town Hall:  " Greg Abbott Responds to Vicious Liberal Attacks About His Disability..."Denigrating the disabled is unworthy of Texas"

Of course, letting them starve to death because we don't want to pay taxes is just great.  By the way, in case you're wondering, I'm not going to deal with what this is about- it has just about as much reality as every other Conservative smear job you've ever heard, which you could figure out just from knowing that it comes from that O'Keefe asshole.

Leah Barkoukis, Town Hall:  "Microstamping Law Forces Smith & Wesson to Stop Selling New Guns in California"

No it didn't.  What forced Smith & Wesson to stop selling new guns in California is greed so great that they won't spend a few cents per gun to help police catch murderers.  Oh, and 'bye guys...we'll do just fine in California without you.  I'd much rather have a P226 anyway.

Tim Dunkin, Renew America:  "It's time for conservatives to let the blue states burn"

Stop living off our tax money, and I'm ready to give it a try.

Alan Caruba, Renew America:  "The EPA's agenda: undermine capitalism and America"

Well, actually, Alan, the Environmental Protection Agency's agenda is to prevent people from being poisoned en masse by corporations.  What it really tries to undermine is out of control greed.  Of course, maybe you are right- maybe that is all capitalism is.

James Pethokoukis, Ricochet:  "Is There Really Nothing We Can Do to Improve Family Stability for Lower-Income Americans?"

How about raising the minimum wage and extending unemployment, dumbass?  But no, James has another answer:  "marriage promotion."  That will work great, right?

And now, this exciting announcement:

Before It's News:  "Swastika Symbol Linked to Advanced Technology"

Well, there's some news we all need to hear.  I wonder what motivated these guys to print this story?  No, on second thought, I don't want to know.

Kurt Schlichter, Town Hall:  "Have you noticed how the Establishment invents a lot of special rules that only seem to apply to conservatives?"

No.

"Have you noticed how these rules always involve preventing conservatives from winning?"

No, I've never noticed that either.  In fact, the exact opposite is true.  Particularly the Establishment rule that you are not allowed to mention the fact that Conservatives have nothing to contribute to the nation but lies and greed.

"And have you noticed how these rules never, ever seem to apply to our enemies?"

"Enemies."  Maybe you wouldn't be so prone to buying into paranoid delusions of persecution of you didn't believe that anyone who disagrees with you on anything is your enemy.  So, Kurt, you just went 0 for 3- none of your claims is true.  But you knew that already, didn't you?  And you also knew that, without lies, you've got nothing.

Carol Platt Liebeau, Town Hall:  "Rand Paul: Clinton Engaged in "Predatory Behavior"

Yup, this is about Monica Lewinski.  That's what they've got- a meaningless scandal from 20 years ago, about a Democratic President who gave us 8 years of relative peace and prosperity.  That's it.  That's their campaign right there.

Jonah Goldberg, National Review Online:  "Satan and the Constitution...The Constitution is powerless against Satan."

Do you want to know any more about this?  I didn't think so.  Neither do I.  Let's just move on.

Town Hall:  "George Will on Clintons: All They've Done Their Entire Life Is Borrow Money From Rich People"

I guess George forgot the part where Hillary served in the Senate and as Secretary of State, and Bill was a governor and the President.  Well, I guess I can understand why they would like to forget them.  Balancing the Federal budget and solving foreign problems without going to war just aren't the kind of thing they are really into.

Bryan Preston, PJ Media:  "Austin American-Statesman Suggests that James O’Keefe and Osama bin Laden Have Something in Common"

What an outrage!  Let me tell you what Osama Bin Laden and James O'Keefe did not have in common:  Osama believed what he said.

David Waciski, American Thinker:  "Guns Don't Kill People, Democrats Kill People"

Hey! Finally, an answer to gun violence!  Just kill all the Democrats!  Why didn't anyone think of that before?

A Classic Lesson in Conservative Debating Techniques

Here's a video of Bernie Sanders "debating" Michelle Bachmann, which provides a truly outstanding example of what happens when someone tries to reason with right wingers.  It is really painful to see, so I don't expect anyone to watch it all (I couldn't take it) but take a look at a little of it, because it is such a great example of the techniques which Republicans use to prevent any kind of meaningful, fact-based conversation from taking place.  I first noticed this on talk radio in the late 1960's, and I have seen it ever since.  Anyone who thinks this pathetic behavior is the result of stupidity or ignorance on Republicans' part is deeply mistaken.  It is a systematic behavior which can be seen again and again, ad nauseum.

So, here is the strategy:

1.  As soon as you get hold of the microphone, rattle off as many lying Republican talking points as possible, harshly criticizing your opponent as a boor if they dare to say anything while you are talking. This way, no meaningful rebuttal can hope to cover more than a fraction of your distortions, leaving the others untouched.

2.  Whenever they have a chance to say something, continuously talk over them, no matter what they say or do, totally ignoring your synthetic outrage of a few seconds ago whenever they tried to correct you.

3.  After your orgy of lies, be sure to find a way to accuse your opponent of being a liar:  Michelle Bachmann in this case to Bernie Sanders:  "'You Shouldn't Be Lying."  This strategy is designed, on the rare occasion that a Democrat would be unpolite enough to point out the truth about Republican talking points, to be sure that all many people will take away from the conversation is that both people accused the other of lying, and they probably both were.

As I said above, I have watched this systematic behavior for decades.  It is nothing but a way of shouting down all opposition and silencing the truth.  Of course a closet right winger like Wolf Blitzer* will play right along with it and pretend that it's just a fine way to deal with our national problems.

*Little known fun fact:  Wolf Blitzer started his career in broadcast journalism working for Pat Robertson at the Christian Broadcasting Network.

I Sense A Miniseries Coming

Published at long last- the love letters of Heinrich Himmler!
Such a romantic
A brief excerpt:

“I’m heading to  Auschwitz,” he wrote in one missive. “Sending you kisses. Your Heini.”

What a passionate guy!

Surreal

I don't have much to say about this, but I had to post this absolutely surreal image from the Kiev protests:
It looks like a still from some Tolkienesque movie.  Life imitates art.

Great Electoral News

For people like Green Eagle, anyway.  Uber-warmonger John Bolton has announced his intention to make a run for the Republican Presidential nomination!  Of course, it will never happen, but wouldn't that be a treat?  Green Eagle is so excited that he is already at work on his campaign material (as well as having picked the perfect vice-Presidential candidate.)  Here you go:
Now, wouldn't that be a great day for American Patriots everywhere?

Man, Liberals Still Don't Get It

As exemplified today by this article from Talking Points Memo, generally assumed to be a major source of sense in the left wing blogosphere:

"The Heritage Foundation Might Be Shedding Some Of Its Crazy Soon...

In its first year under former senator and tea party godfather Jim DeMint, there was a growing consensus -- and concern -- that the foundation once renowned for its intellectual rigor might now be more of a political advocacy outlet than a home for scholarly research, albeit of the conservative variety...Heritage's most recent hire could mark a potential return to normalcy and respectability for the foundation.

The new man is Stephen Moore, most recently of the Wall Street Journal's editorial page, who is joining Heritage as its chief economist. He has previously worked at Heritage in the 1980's, the Cato Institute, and Club for Growth before spending the last nine years at the Journal."

"It absolutely portends a change over there at the Heritage Foundation," (some jerk at the Cato Institute) said. "Talk in D.C. is very cheap, but when people start shifting their staffs that shows they're aligning with a different position, that actually means something."

"Steve Moore going to Heritage reflects a return to normality."

Okay, let's get to the nonsense nested in this comment.  First of all, the Heritage Foundation has never been " renowned for its intellectual rigor."  It has always been nothing but one more Conservative lie factory.  Second, the man who is touted as bringing a spirit of moderation to the Heritage Foundation has the following resume:  The Heritage Foundation itself, the Koch Brothers owned Cato Institute, the Club for Growth, one of the most strident pro corporate and anti-regulation groups in the country, and the Murdoch owned Wall Street Journal.  The notion that he is a moderate is ludicrous.

Finally, and most importantly, here is what the people at Talking Points Memo really missed:  2014 is an election year.  Every election year, Republicans pretend to be moderates.  Then after they have conned people into electing them, they enact as much piggish legislation as they can, until the next election draws close, when they start again with the phony moderation.  This has been going on for decades- how can people not understand it at this point?  The Republican party is owned by the very rich, and it is going to continue to serve their interests at the expense of the rest of us.  Any behavior that seems to show something different is nothing but a smoke screen.  It's long past time that the rest of us abandon any shred of doubt about that.

Trust Me

How unsurprising is this?

"Oh, by the way, says Freedom Industries, there was a second chemical leaking from that tank...Daniel Horowitz, managing director of the CSB, said, "we were told about another component in the mixture that had been added to the Crude MCHM, a product called 'PPH' consisting of polyglycol ethers, at about 5.6 percent."  (Mike) Dorsey, (director of homeland security and emergency response for the state Department of Environmental Protection) said he was "extremely disappointed" to be learning only Tuesday -- 12 days after the leak -- about the presence of PPH in the tank that leaked."

Freedom Industries, according to an earlier report from the Charleston Gazette, initially refused to tell what was really in the spilled mixture, citing its right to keep proprietary information secret.  Apparently, they realized what a public relations nightmare that was going to cause, and have now relented.  Otherwise, people in West Virginia might not have a right to know what poison the company delivered to their drinking water, because a right to know that might interfere with the company's ability to make a profit.

A Brief Comment on the "March for Life"

In case you didn't notice it, yesterday was what was supposed to be the high point of the anti-abortion movement's year, the "March for Life" on Washington.  This event has been held for many years, often with fairly substantial turnouts due to the active participation of the Catholic Church in turning people out.

Well, this is a strange thing, but there are almost no photos I can find showing the extent of the crowd that showed up for this event.  Press reports uniformly mention that "thousands" of people turned out, and a couple of views of the crowd that I could see in videos of the speakers seemed to bear this out.  I'd put the size of the turnout as roughly 3-6,000.  Well, it sure beats the 130 that Larry Klayman managed to get to Washington; and the bad weather on the East Coast certainly affected the turnout, but still this is a minimal number compared to the crowds assembled for previous years' marches.

Once again, evidence of a point that I continue to make here:  the far right in America is actually much smaller that most people believe, and it is only because of the miserable courting of them by the mainstream press that anyone continues to take them seriously as an indication of real public opinion.

Update:  And, of course, here is World Net Daily's description of the event:

"This week hundreds of thousands of pro-life advocates are descending upon Washington for dozens of pro-life events that will be held throughout the capital, culminating in the 41st Annual March for Life on Wednesday...This year is expected to be one of the largest marches ever"

Hundreds of thousands.  Well, what do you expect?

Inequality

This graphic, from a new report from Oxfam:

How do you feel about that?  Well, here is Green Eagle's solution to this problem:  Those 85 rich people should be executed, and every penny of their net worth should be seized and distributed among the 3.5 billion poor people, thereby doubling their net worth.

Sounds like a plan to me.  I'm sick about being lectured about how we are supposed to care about the welfare of rich people, when they don't give a damn about us.  Do you for one second think that a single one of these 85 people would hesitate for a second if offered a deal to double their wealth, at the expense of the death of 3.5 billion poor people?

Daddy Issues

I was struck by a post at Daily Kos yesterday that detailed Mitt Romney's rather troubled attitude toward his father:

"Writing about Mitt in the Washington Times, conservative columnist Byron York was struck by Romney's pessimism and lack of confidence. But even more striking was the son's acknowledgement that he didn't measure up to the father and the path the AMC magnate turned Michigan governor blazed for him...Romney's poignant confession would have been touching if he had been heading to a therapist's couch rather than the chair in the Oval Office. And Mitt might emerge as a more sympathetic character if he hadn't just spent all of 2012 using his father's rags-to-riches story as a substitute for his own life of privileged detachment."

What interested me about this was the following:  We all know that this story parallels the relationship between George W. Bush and his father, who was in so many ways a more successful man than W.  But the same thing could be said about John McCain, whose father and grandfather were admirals, and whose own career at West Point and in the navy was undistinguished at best.

So, as the Republican party degenerates into irrelevance, the candidates it chose in the last four Presidential elections have been characters with troubled relationships with more successful, and far more palatable, fathers.  What does this mean?  Who knows?  But, it does seem interesting to me.

My Martin Luther King Day Tribute

In honor of Martin Luther King day, I'd like to present you with this quotation on the occasion of King's death, from that great Patriot and Saint, Ronald Reagan:

"it's the sort of great tragedy when we begin compromising with law and order and people started choosing which laws they would break."

He deserved it.  Demand equality and you deserve to be murdered.  Well, I'm glad we finally got that straight.

And may I point out that this racist son of a bitch wouldn't even be close to hate filled enough to compete in today's Republican party?

The Saddest Sentence In The World

For Republicans, anyway.  Maureen Dowd, in the New York Times this morning:

"A Republican fund-raising operative even told BuzzFeed that donors are so worried about 2016 now, many tell him, “I think we need Mitt back.”

I mean, that is a miserable thought, huh?

Dennis Rodman Checks Into Rehab

Man, they must have some kind of good drugs up there in North Korea.  Sounds like Kim Jong Un drunk him under the table.

Smoke and Mirrors

I'm not really interested in getting into this nonsense in any detail, but let me just state the obvious:  President Obama's speech yesterday about NSA spying was nothing but an attempt to obscure the obvious fact that he intends to do as close to nothing as he can get away with to deal with this grossly out of control agency.  At this point, all he seems to be up to is hanging on for dear life, trying to finish out his term without giving the Republicans an excuse to impeach him.

Not really what we voted for.

FREEDOM!!!!

If there is a person on earth who really doesn't understand what kind of a sick thing conservatives are thinking of when they constantly rail about "freedom," this should straighten them out:

"Water-Poisoning Freedom Industries Files for Bankruptcy!
Hold on to your hats, people – Freedom Industries, the company that poisoned 300,000 West Virginians with a chemical leak is now immune against any civil complaints or judgements that may be brought by the people and businesses suffering losses...
The company’s assets and liabilities are “unknown,” according to the filing. Under the bankruptcy code, Chapter 11 permits a company to reorganize and continue operating."

In other words, there is no public information that this company is actually bankrupt, i.e. broke, but they are allowed to do this so they can stay in business without paying a penny to the people they damaged.  And this is all perfectly legal.  Under conservative political principles, companies are allowed to make money by doing any damage they please to the rest of us, but they are free- FREE!- from having to pay for that damage.  No, that is when government welfare is just dandy- when it goes to pay off the debts of the rich.

This is all that freedom means to the rich psychopaths who finance the Republican party- freedom for them to poison us, freedom for us to be poisoned.  And in case you are wondering who I am talking about, yes, Freedom Industries is a distributor for chemicals manufactured by the Koch brothers.  It is deeply frightening how much Republican deregulation has concentrated wealth not in the hands of the rich, but in the hands of a couple thousand rich people, who now have so much money that they, all by themselves are able to control the entire course of the government.

And (in case you haven't noticed) they aren't sending it in a good direction.

Wingnut Wrapup

More!  There's always more!
Katie Pavlich, Town Hall:  "The Dishonesty of Democrats' Push for an Extension of Unemployment Benefits- For months, in an effort to shift focus away from Obamacare, Democrats have argued that the economy is recovering and that jobs are being created.  But if this is the truth, then why is it necessary to continue the extension of unemployment benefits?  Democrats cannot honestly argue an unemployment benefit extension is necessary because jobs aren't available for the unemployed while also touting a successful economy and growing jobs."
Talk about dishonesty.  There are still three times as many job seekers as there are new jobs, and Katie knows this perfectly well.   Sure the economy is recovering from the Republican crash. But Democrats are hardly being dishonest if they still care about the people who have been left behind.  To Republicans, compassion is dishonesty.  Well, they don't have any themselves, and I guess they can't believe anyone else does either.  What a bunch of great people.
Lloyd Marcus, Renew America:  "2014: the resurgence of the Tea Party"
Don't hold your breath, buster.
Mary Sullivan, White Children Receive Bad News:  "OBAMA, AN AVOWED BLACK RACIST, THREATENS THE WORLD WITH GLOBAL WARMING ...OBAMA HAS AN 85 IQ AND BARELY CAN READ OR WRITE, BUT NOW HE IS A NEGRO SCIENTIST"
They all have 85 IQ's at Harvard Law School, I guess.
Chris Adamo, Renew America:  "Understanding the Benghazi/Chappaquiddick connection"
Oh God, give it a rest already, will you, please?
Lloyd Marcus, Renew America:  "Will King Obama throw nuns into the lion's den?  We are witnessing a modern day version of King Darius ordering that Daniel be thrown into the lion's den for refusing to deny his faith. Either the Little Sisters of the Poor ministry submit to King Obama's decree or die; metaphorically thrown into the lion's den."
Oh, Metaphorically.  Metaphorically.  Obama isn't going to have anyone actually eaten alive by lions, he's just going to make members of one of the most corrupt and perverted organization on earth provide their employees with adequate medical insurance.  You know what?  Until the day that the Catholic Church shows the slightest sign of being ready to deal with its child-rape problem, I'm just not going to worry too much about their moral outrage over an insurance contract.
David Huntsworth, Renew America:  "Twisted understanding of the Constitution leads to things like this...Group unveils Satan statue design for Oklahoma "
You know what, David? You're right.  A twisted understanding of the Constitution did lead to things like this- your twisted understanding, that tells you that religion entitles people to do any damned thing they please.  Now, the chickens are coming home to roost, in a very minor way- Satanists, Hindus, Atheists, ever followers of the Flying Spaghetti Monster want monuments to their faiths on public ground, and you made it possible.  Of course, in reality, you only believe that your religion deserves unquestioning obedience, but you aren't quite ready to come out in public yet and act that much like Al Qaida.  So you go on with your hypocritical posturing, sure that no one will dare to call you on it.
Ken Blackwell, American Thinker:  "They Will Lie to Your Casket "
That's okay.  My casket doesn't have any ears, so it can't hear them.

Now, this article contains one of the most ridiculous distortions of history I've ever heard:

"President Reagan's administration suffered one of the worst disasters of his presidency when Iranian-backed suicide bombers hit the Marine Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1983. Two hundred forty-one Marines and Navy corpsmen were murdered as they slept.  Reagan responded with force. He ordered the USS New Jersey to shell the Iranian-backed Hizb'allah training camps in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon. Within days, Reagan changed the scene of action to the Caribbean, where he liberated a 100,000 people of Grenada from the grip of Communism."

In fact, as we all know, Reagan cut and ran from Beirut, and then "changed the scene of action to the Caribbean," or in plain English, attacked a small, helpless country to distract attention from his cowardly response in Lebanon.  Conservatives that are still fuming about Benghazi are willing to try to whitewash this incomparably worse situation, and turn it into a victory.  Attacked by Hezbollah, he took it out on a bunch of weed-smoking guys from the other side of the globe.  Reagan, what a hero.
Ethel C. Fenig, American Thinker?  "Is the Gov Christie scandal bad for the Democrats?"
Sure it is.  Just like the polls that proved Romney was going to win the 2012 election.  But of course, it's bound to be good news for John McCain.
Daniel Doherty, Town Hall:  "Pew Poll: 60 Percent Say “Opinion of Christie Hasn’t Changed...Good news for Team Christie."
Good news for Team Christie...Of course, Mr. Doherty fails to point out that this means 40 percent say their opinion of Christie has changed, and believe me, not for the better.  To the Republicans among us, the fact that Christie's behavior only alienated 40 percent of the electorate is a wonderful thing.

Michael Barone, Town Hall:  " Robert Gates Book Portrays Obama as a Different Kind of President"

Different than Bush?  That's a relief.
Dennis Prager, Town Hall:  "On every level and from every perspective -- from pure national interest to the purely moral -- the decision by the Obama administration and the Democratic Party to withdraw American troops from Iraq... is indefensible."
Not a word, from the biggest liar on the internet, about the immorality of invading Iraq in the first place, of course.  Here's Dennis' "reasoning:"
"When the last U.S. combat troops departed Iraq in December 2011, they left behind a defeated al-Qaida and an Iraq where traditional rivals Sunni and Shiite Muslims were sharing power in the world's only Arab democracy.
Two years later, al-Qaida has seized major cities where hundreds of U.S. troops died while fighting alongside their Iraqi brethren. The population once freed by the U.S.-Iraqi alliance has now watched those same jihadist insurgents return to command the streets and impose their will."
Dennis seems to have forgotten that Al Qaida didn't exist at all in Iraq until the United States overthrew their government and let religious fanatics on both sides go hog wild.  The Iraqi population was "freed" by us from a problem that we created.  And of course, it wasn't real freedom- as soon as we left, those fanatics that we let into the country did what any idiot knew they would, and apparently the only way to prevent it is to have American troops fighting and dying there forever.  Sorry, Dennis, we created Al Qaida in Iraq, and now the Iraqi people are suffering from what we did.  And by we, I mean your darlings Bush and Cheney, who you supported every step of the way while they committed an armed aggression against an innocent country every bit as malicious as the German invasion of Czechoslovakia.  Deal with that, sucker.
Alan Keyes, Renew America:  "Obama's Marxist coup: ending the nightmare...Leavened with malice and deceit, they rise to power, these hardcore socialists like Obama. Once positioned to do so, they move to consolidate unbridled tyranny. Their infamous goal: to impose the "dictatorship of the proletariat."
This guy lost a Senate contest to Obama once.  In fact Obama killed him after the Republicans brought him in from another State because they couldn't find a black man in Illinois to run against Obama.  Alan has never gotten over it, and at this point, he's pretty much around the bend.
Before It's News:  "Ariel Sharon Dead At 85: Will Prophecy Now Come To Pass?"
No.
Lauri B. Reagan, American Thinker:  "Who Will Obama Blame for his Failed Iran Policy? The Jews, of Course"
Of course.  Because that's what he always does, blame the Jews, right?  Why just recently...uh...actually, he never blamed the Jews for anything, but of course, this time he will.  Because Muslim Communist blah blah blah.  And mobster:
"From threatening to veto the legislation to accusing Senators who support the new sanctions bill of pushing for war with Iran, President Obama is using all of the down and dirty mobster-style tactics he can muster."
The veto.  A tactic we normally associate with Al Capone.

And now for a shocking story I bet you haven't heard:

Before It's News:  "Over the years, the United Nations has gradually purchased most of our precious National parks in the United States of America, and now they are working on buying all major U.S. cities. But why?"

Yeah, why?
“It is a well-documented fact that the U.N. is trying to gain control over vast amounts of U.S. territories to herd more people into cities where they are more manageable,” says Henry Lamb of Eco-Logic — a watchdog organization that monitors U.N. activities and U.S. sovereignty issues."
Oh, that explains everything.

And let's just go out on this important announcement from the Save America Foundation:
"Militia Mobilization Across The Nation Under Way- Senior Chief Geoff Ross, US Navy (Ret)

Dear Save America Foundation Members and all Patriots across the United States,

Be advised that I am in the process of notifying and contacting all legal and constitutionally created militia groups across the United States to mobilize on Washington DC for “Operation American Spring”currently scheduled for May 16th, 2014 and commanded by my friend Colonel Harry Riley US Army Intelligence (Retired) Silver star.   1.8 million people have already responded in kind and are mobilizing and or supporting this effort.  We need 10 million."
1.8 million have already responded!  and they need 10 million!  Well, that will sure beat the 130 who turned up for the last march on Washington, won't it?  Green Eagle can hardly wait!

But you will have to wait for more Wingnut Wrapup, because Green Eagle has had enough.  Not that I suspect that will be a problem for you.

Climate Change Denial Scorecard

Via Little Green Footballs, this wonderful chart detailing the peer-reviewed papers published in scientific journals last year:
Yes, the climate change deniers managed to get one paper out of 2259, or by my calculations, 4.43 100ths of one percent of the total.

Yet people with a direct financial interest in climate change denial will continue to spend billions to delude the American people about this vital subject:

"Conservative groups may have spent up to $1bn a year on the effort to deny science and oppose action on climate change, according to the first extensive study into the anatomy of the anti-climate effort."

The result of their malicious work?  From the American Association for the Advancement of Science:
This carefully nurtured intransigence among Republican voters is sufficient to see that the scientific evidence produced by an overwhelming percentage of climate scientists can do nothing to get the government to act to save us from disaster.  And thus the human race marches toward oblivion, so that Exxon and the Koch Brothers can make their billions.

And let me point out that this is not just about climate change.  We've reached a point, thanks to the Republican party and their corrupt justices (and sad to say, some Democrats too) where the combined political weight of virtually everyone in the country does not counterbalance the ability of a couple of thousand rich monsters to control our political process.

And by the way, this situation will not last forever.  The only question, really, is how much suffering, how much slaughter there will be before these animals are put in the cages where they belong.

Republicans "Fighting" Poverty Again

I very much enjoyed this article from the Los Angeles Times, laying out the Republicans' brave new plans to deal with income inequality in the United States:
"Republicans call for a new approach to fight poverty
On the 50th anniversary of President Johnson's War on Poverty, Republicans seek to address voter anxiety about an uneven economic recovery in a midterm election year..
Prominent Republicans are working to recast the party's message about tackling poverty and boosting the middle class amid concerns that a relentless focus on the troubles of Obamacare will not be enough to guarantee electoral success."
Before I really tear into them, note that this new found interest of the Republicans has nothing whatsoever to do with the country's welfare, and everything to do with the fact that, after 2012, most Americans correctly identify them as the servants of the rich.  So, recasting the party's message, not changing anything, is the whole point of this exercise.

Well, here are some of the details:
"On Wednesday, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, a likely 2016 contender for the GOP presidential nomination, jumped into the fray, delivering a speech in which he called for a "fundamental change" in how government combats poverty by shifting responsibility for most existing federal assistance programs to the states."
A brave new proposal to shift Federal funding into State block grants, where Republican legislatures and Governors can use them for corporate breaks and tax cuts for the rich.  This has been a standard part of the Republican "solution" to every problem the nation ever faces, and has absolutely nothing to do with reducing inequality.
"For conservatives like Rubio, a key challenge will be reconciling a call for a greater focus on the needy with Republican efforts to scale back existing programs designed to assist low-income Americans, such as food stamps, and the party's opposition to efforts to increase the minimum wage."
Focusing on the needy by cutting back every measure that might give them a marginally better life. Again, far from being something new, this has been a standard Republican demand for decades.
"As Rubio was unveiling his plan on Capitol Hill, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) delivered an address across town on the promise of charter schools to "break this vicious cycle of poverty."
And just to top things off, let's slash our public schools' funding, in favor of private institutions that can accept or reject anyone they please, once again leaving the poor behind.
"Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, a leader of the party's more libertarian wing, has visited economically depressed communities like Detroit and proposed what he calls "economic freedom zones" that would offer reduced tax rates."
Reduced tax rates.  For the poor? No, for corporations and the rich- the sine qua non of Republican budget proposals for a century.
"The mere fact that we're talking about extending unemployment benefits again is a proclamation that the economic policies of this administration are failing," said Rep. Steve Southerland II (R-Fla.), who is leading a group of House conservatives advancing their own anti-poverty initiative, including a proposal that food stamp recipients be required to find work..."
Work which, of course, doesn't exist, given that there is one job for every three job seekers in the country- so one person gets work, two get thrown off the train.  That will leave more money for the rich.

As always, the cynicism from the Republicans, and the compliant press that is so willing to just repeat their preposterous claims as truth, is staggering.  And no more so than in this latest attempt to pass off the Republicans' same old efforts to turn every situation into a giveaway to the rich, as some sort of brave new thinking intended to really deal with the problems we face.  Every Republican, and every member of the press knows this is just a malicious charade, but shh!  Don't smarten up the rubes!

A Bridge Too Far

Okay, I'm succumbing to the urge to get my two cents in on Chris Christie.

What this bridge embarrassment reminds me of is the resignation of Nixon.  After that happened, some European friends of mine expressed their incredulity that such a seemingly small thing (compared, say, to Reagan's Iran-Contra treason) could result in driving a President from office.  What they didn't understand was this:  There were always two views of Nixon in the country- Nixon, the brilliant politician and master statesman who could guide the country through any crisis, and Nixon-well not to mince words- the crook.  What Watergate did was make it impossible for most people to believe in the first alternative.  Watergate played right into the most negative stereotypes about Nixon.

Well, that is the reason that this bridge scandal is going to do so much damage to Christie.  There is already a well-established narrative of Christie as a belligerent bully, and this incident plays right into it.  In fact, in my lifetime, I've seen almost all political "scandals" that did real damage to people work for exactly that reason- it just made it too believable that they were what their opponents said they were.

Not that it will affect Christie's chance for the nomination- after all, he's in a party that just welcomed back to the Congress a guy busted with three and a half grams of coke.  But with people who admit they are Republicans now down to 25% in a recent poll, getting the Republican nomination is likely to prove a quick route to oblivion.

Confederate Army Gets Ready for Action, Yes Sir!

Well, here I go again, bringing you a prime specimen of the lunacy/stupidity/hate that makes the right in this country a viable institution.  This one, found by Esquire, features Charles Goodson, the "Commanding General" of the New Confederate Army.  I strongly recommend that you watch at least a little of this video, because seeing one of these guys live gives an insight into just how intellectually inadequate and detached from reality these people are.  Not that they do not represent a danger.  Sad to say, it doesn't take much mental capacity to pull the trigger of a gun.  In this case, all it takes is enough synthetic anger, and that they have in apparently inexhaustable quantities.

The author of the Esquire article, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Bateman (from our real army) has this to say about "General" Goodson:
"I myself would not have believed that such a thing could even exist... I think it is so flipping funny and pathetic that it needs to be shared."
Well, unfortunately, any reader of Wingnut Wrapup knows all too well that such things and worse can exist in great quantities in this country, and the very true fact that it is funny and pathetic does not alter the reality that it is also very dangerous.  In fact, absent a general willingness to confront these people with their insanity, we are bound, sooner or later, to see some real tragedies enacted by them.

If you care to learn any more about the New Confederate Army, you can look at their website here, although I think the video pretty much tells you all you need to know.

Okay, okay, responding to overwhelming demand from those who want to know, here are a few of the reasons that the New Confederate Army is preparing to rise up against liberals:
"That they do knowingly slander the Southern Movement, comparing them to the KKK and all White Supremacist movements."
Man, I wonder why that might be.  And if it is such an insult, why do you guys act like White Supremacists?
"That they slander and mock those in the Southern movement, inferring that they are nothing but inbred uneducated rednecks."
Look at your video, dude, and try to show some self-awareness.  You are working night and day to convince us that you are an inbred uneducated fool.  Don't blame us when your efforts meet with success.
"That the Entertainment Industry has helped, by mocking the Southern culture. Comedians like, Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, James Gregory, have helped to instill in people the idea that Southerners are indeed stupid people. That the T.V. Talk shows, like Jerry Springer have made this impression even more tangible, by having guests that are toothless and with Southern accents."
No more toothless guests, or we are going to come and shoot you!
"That they would have us believe that the Confederacy is no longer in existence"
Where, oh, where might they have gotten that idea?

Oh well, as I said, if this isn't enough nonsense for you, click on the link to their website and treat yourself to more.  Be my guest.

Never apologize for being wrong either.

Update:  It has been pointed out that this jackass has taken down this ludicrous video.  In case you really want to see him in action, here is another really pathetic taste:

Wingnut Wrapup

WINGNUT WRAPUP 2014

Aah, a new year.  Perhaps this is the year that Republicans decide to act sane.

...Nah.  Let's get on with it, and set the tone right from the beginning:

Walter Williams, Town Hall:  "Here's a question that I've asked in the past that needs to be revisited. Unless one wishes to obfuscate, it has a simple yes or no answer. If one group of people prefers strong government control and management of people's lives while another group prefers liberty and desires to be left alone, should they be required to enter into conflict with one another and risk bloodshed and loss of life in order to impose their preferences on the other group? Yes or no. My answer is no; they should be able to peaceably part company and go their separate ways."

Secession!  All the Koch Brothers and Rove money in the world couldn't buy the government, they couldn't persuade more than a couple of hundred jackasses to show up for their various rebellions in Washington, they weren't able to destroy the economy to show how angry they were (their rich buddies already did that, just out of sheer greed,) so this is all that is left for these treasonous, anti-American bastards.

Well, you know where Green Eagle stands on this.  We in the liberal States are damned tired of paying taxes to keep your failed Republican States from drowning.  So, go already.  I for one am really interested in seeing whether a country founded on hatred and avarice will do any better than examples of that sort of thing from the past.  And Godwin be damned, you know who I'm talking about.

And if that doesn't pan out, well, of course, there is always this:

Bob Barr, Town Hall:  "Our Founding Fathers Were Not Afraid Of The “I” Word And We Ought Not To Be Either"

And what "I" word would that be, Bob?  Oh, impeachment.  I thought maybe you meant idiocy.

And why would Republicans have to propose such extreme solutions?

Terry Jeffrey, Town Hall:  "Free Exercise of Virtue Prohibited as of Today in USA...As of today -- Jan. 1, 2014 -- a Democratic administration led by President Barack Obama will...prohibit Americans from freely exercising not just Christianity, but virtue itself in the United States of America."

Now, that's an evil administration.  Think about this the next time you are tempted to be nice to someone.    It's illegal now.

And, failing all of that, the wingnuts can always place their hope in this:

Bob Unruh. World Net Daily:  "WHITE HOUSE NIGHTMARE: ELIGIBILITY CASE STILL ALIVE...Judges still haven't decided challenge to Obama's tenure"

Yes, that's right, judges still haven't decided to challenge Obama's tenure!  Despite an endless string of lawsuits, from Orly Taitz, Jerome Corsi, Larry Klayman, and whatever teabagger jackass you can find, every single one of which has been laughed out of court, judges still "haven't decided" to rule against Obama.  So the right wingers will file tons more groundless lawsuits.  If that is the White House nightmare, Obama can sleep pretty easily.

And just in case you think that Republicans can't lower our national discourse any more in the first week of the new year, get ready for it:

Ann Coulter, Town Hall:  "The Anus Monologues"

That's the title of her New Years piece.  Really.  I didn't make it up.

Town Hall:  "'Duck Dynasty' couple to guest on Fox News special"

Oh boy, I can hardly wait.

Roger Simon, PJ Media:  "To put it bluntly: nobody knows nothin’ about the president of the United States, aka the leader of the free world."

Well, Roger, people like you might know nothin' about Obama.  But then, people like you know nothin' about anything.

Bridget Johnson, PJ Media:  "‘We Can’t Turn Dangerous Terrorists Loose on Blind Faith’: Obama’s Guantanamo Liquidation"

You had twelve years to charge them and convict them of something, but you don't care.  You'll keep them in prison forever because you're scared to death one of them will turn up under your bed.  Well, I've got news for you, Bridget:  That's not the way we're supposed to do things in the United States.

And a little more about Benghazi, just in case you thought that the unvarnished truth could ever change right wingers' minds:

Andrew Klavan, PJ Media:  "Either the incompetent Mrs. Clinton engaged in a shameful cover-up of the truth or she shamefully sold out our values for the values of murderous scum."

I guess the only consolation we can take is this:  The Republicans counted on the fact that every time they told their lies about Benghazi (or anything else) they persuaded a few more suckers to fall for them.  At this point, every time they mention Benghazi, all they do is convince a few more people that they are a bunch of total jackasses.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "BLOODY HANDS: NY Times Had Reporter on Ground While Terrorists Slaughtered US Ambassador"

So because the Times had a reporter there, they are part of Al Qaida too.  Interesting perspective.  After all, you don't need to be there to come up with more lies.  It works every time for the wingnuts.

Dan Popp, Renew America:  "What did Jesus say about homosexuality?"

Nothing, Dan.  But Dan begs to differ.  After about 1500 weasel words, he concludes:

"The Son of God did say something about homosexual behavior. Quite a bit, actually.  He said it directly, by His own mouth; and indirectly, through others.  He spoke about it generally, under the umbrella of all sins; and he talked about it very specifically, describing the activity. It just isn't honest to say that Christ was silent on this subject."

Why bother with the truth when a lie works better?  Jesus never said a thing about homosexuality, no matter how many blasphemies Dan tells about the subject.  He would have, if he was Dan, but unfortunately he was only God, so he had to say it in such a confusing fashion that it took two thousand years for someone to figure out what he really meant.

Gina Miller, Renew America:  "As I have repeated ad nauseam in this column, America has been taken over by communists."

Actually, Gina, you reached the "nauseam" threshold the first time you said it.   Gina seems particularly furious about right wing Chief Justice Roberts today:

"U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John "Quisling" Roberts' twisted ruling (which was also illegal, because he changed the already-illegal law) does not make this law legitimate, no matter how many leftists declare otherwise."

The Supreme Court's decision is illegal, because the Court of Gina has overturned it.  And by the way, Gina, making a judicial decision you don't like is not quite like betraying your country to the Nazis.

Larry Elder, Town Hall:  "Michael Steele, then-chair of the Republican National Committee, criticized Obama's stimulus plan as "a wish list from a lot of people who have been on the sidelines for years ... to get a little bling, bling." Steele, who wanted to expand the GOP's appeal to young voters, used the expression to, in Steele's words, "take the party to the streets," while making the GOP more "relevant" to "urban-suburban hip-hop settings."

"Bling bling."  That's just what the Republicans need to make young people like them, huh, Larry?  Well, let me tell you something:  Green Eagle is not young, but he has a couple of 20 something kids, and they have a lot of friends, and every one of them knows damned well why they are in the miserable state they are, unlike the stupid geezers that are the Republicans' constituency.  Young people don't give a damn about "bling."  They do care about who cheated them out of their future, and they know perfectly well who it was.  So, go ahead, give your bling a try and see how it works.

Rick Moran, PJ Media:  "I Just Shoveled a Foot of Global Warming Off My Driveway"

Well, Rick, at least you didn't have to shovel a foot of "global warming doesn't exist" off your driveway.  Unless you've let a bunch of cows live there for a long time.

Bryan Fischer:  "I would suggest to you that if a politician, if somebody wants to exercise political power and he is an evolutionist, he is disqualified from holding political office in the United States of America."

In the right wing world, stupidity and ignorance are necessary qualifications for holding political office.  Otherwise you might think for yourself, and decide not to do what the Koch brothers told you to do.

Michael Walsh, PJ Media:  "The Bleeding Obvious-More guns, less crime."

One man's "bleeding obvious" is another man's "are you fucking insane, or just paid to say things like that?"

And let's just finish with the Conspiracy Theory of the Month, from a comment at World Net Daily:

"Hermann Goring actually escaped from his cell in Nuremberg with the assistance of known Nazi sympathizer U.S. Ambassador Joseph P. Kennedy, was smuggled into the United States by the Kennedy family who kept him hidden in the basement of the Chicago Mercantile Mart from 1945 to 1948.
In 1948, the Ambassador's youngest son, Edward M. Kennedy, drank himself to death...and Goring seamlessly took the place of the youngest Kennedy brother and eventually became the senior Senator from Massachusetts.
From that perch, he spent the next 47 years destroying the United States."

Teddy Kennedy was actually Hermann Goering, and nobody noticed for 47 years! Hey, it's so obvious when you think about it:

I think I'll just stop there.  See you soon.

I Bet You Never Knew This

From one of the, uh, more strident websites I have found:

Yes, the Pope is a Jew.  And:

"Jew-appendage Francis made the announcement during his weekly Sunday blessing, has he ha signed a Jew pact with Jews to go to meet on having all Catholics become Jew-communists...The visit is so far his only foreign trip planned for 2014. The Pope will celebrate Mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, with the ecumenical patriarch, Bartholomew, to keep Catholics "stupid" while he meets in secret with the rotten Jew, and can't wait to lick and suck Satan's wailing wall, where all Jews make pelvic motions as they pray, screwing Satan, and the human race"

You know how hard  Green Eagle tries to keep you up to date on news that others won't touch.  I hope you appreciate things like this.  Without Green Eagle, you would never know about the pelvic motions, let alone signing Jew pacts with Jews.

Why, Why, Why Does This Guy Have a Column at the New York Times?

Is there nothing he can say that is so stupid, and so pretend wise, while in fact pushing the fantasies of the rich so assiduously, that disqualifies him from blaring his worthless opinions to the American people?

Who else could I be talking about?  Thomas "The Mustache of Irrelevancy*" Friedman, of course, who gets another opportunity to beat us down with his worthless opinions.

Here's a taste of his "Centrist" drivel today, in which once again he refuses to identify the obvious source of this nation's problems, the Republican party:

"Congress should be borrowing money at these unusually low rates to invest in a 10-year upgrade of our crumbling infrastructure...But this near-term investment should be paired with long-term entitlement reductions...and tax reform that would be phased in gradually as the economy improves"

Friedman's idea of compromise seems to boil down to this:  Every time we enact a good Democratic policy, we have to let the Republican have a really bad policy.  This time, the price we have to pay for the proven value that economic stimulus represents is A) screwing poor people and everyone on Social Security and B) tax "reform," which of course never means anything but less taxes for the rich.  Sound familiar?  This is not centrism.  It is the century long demand of the Republican party that the poor be made to pay for the damage the rich cause.

Here's another taste:

"In some cities, teachers’ unions really are holding up education reform. But we need to stop blaming teachers alone. We also have a parent problem: parents who do not take an interest in their children’s schooling or set high standards....Reform requires a hybrid of both teacher reform and a sustained — not just one speech — national campaign to challenge parents and create a culture of respect and excitement for learning. Obama has failed to use his unique bully pulpit to lead such a campaign."

So the problem with the decline of public education in this country was caused by greedy teachers and irresponsible parents.  Notice something left out of this account?  No blame for the Republican jerks that really don't give a damn about anything but cutting their own taxes, and routinely vote down any attempt to adequately fund an education system which they took advantage of in their youth, but which they now would rather drown in the bathtub with the rest of the government.  But no, it's the fault of teachers and parents, and Obama too, because he was supposed to use his "bully pulpit" to get the Republicans to stop their sabotage of government.  How he was to accomplish that I have no idea.

And a final tidbit:

"But it is capitalism, start-ups, risk-taking and entrepreneurship that make these safety nets affordable, which is why we need more tax incentives for start-ups...and more cuts to regulations that burden business. Unfortunately, promotion of risk-taking and risk-takers is disappearing from the Democratic Party agenda. Its energy and excitement is focused much more today on wealth redistribution than wealth creation."

This could have come out of any hard line Republican's mouth.  No comment from Friedman about what the Republicans have been up to the last couple of decades.  No, it's all the Democrats' fault for not cutting taxes and regulations.

The frightening thing is, I think this guy might just be stupid and gullible enough to believe what he is saying.  But why doesn't he say it in private, and leave the rest of us alone?

*As distinguished, of course from The Mustache of Doom, John Bolton.

Oh God, They're On Their Way to Washington Again

Yes, it's a Call to all Eagles!  Or at least some Eagles, seeing as how Green Eagle had to do his usual trolling of wingnut idiots to find out about it, and you can be sure he is deeply insulted to have been left off of the Eagle List.

And what are they Calling to the Eagles to do?  Why, of course, to swarm down on Washington to drive Mr. Obama out of the White House:

"Mission: Restoration of Constitutional government, rule of law, freedom, liberty "of the people, for the people, by the people" from despotic and tyrannical federal leadership. Assumptions:Millions of Americans will participate.American veterans and patriots are energized to end the tyranny, lawlessness, and shredding of the US Constitution. Those in power will not hesitate to use force against unarmed patriots exercising their constitutional rights.Patriots may be killed"

Millions of Americans will participate!  I am not sure at this point if that includes the eagles or if millions of actual people will show up; either way it will be quite a spectacle, don't you think?

"Concept of Operations:Phase 1 - Field millions, as many as ten million, patriots who will assemble in a non-violent, physically unarmed (Spiritually/Constitutionally armed), display of unswerving loyalty to the US Constitution and against the incumbent government leadership, in Washington, D.C., with the mission to bring down the existing leadership.
Phase 2 - One million or more of the assembled 10 million must be prepared to stay in D.C. as long as it takes to see Obama, Biden, Reid, McConnell, Boehner, Pelosi, and Attorney General Holder removed from office. The  US House of Representatives will elect a temporary President and Vice President of the United States. As required, the U.S. Congress will execute appropriate legislation to convene new elections or U.S. States will appoint replacements for positions vacated consistent with established constitutional requirements.
Phase 3 – Those with the "principles" of a West, Cruz, Dr. Ben Carson, Lee, DeMint, Paul, Gov Walker, Sessions, Gowdy, Jordan, will comprise a tribunal and assume positions of authority to convene investigations, recommend appropriate charges against politicians and government employees to the new U.S. Attorney General appointed by the new President.
All actions in Phase 2 & 3 will be consistent with the U.S. Constitution."

The President, Vice President Attorney General and leaders of Congress will be forced from office by a violent mob and replaced by the Republican House of Representatives, in actions utterly consistent with the U.S. Constitution!  That would, of course, be the part written in invisible ink only perceivable to right wingers, where the founding fathers said "ha ha, we had our fingers crossed.  We actually don't believe in any of this crap!  So, go hog wild and overthrow the government whenever your little fee-fees are hurt."

And yes, Green Eagle has it on the best authority that the founding fathers used the legal term "fee-fees" when writing this invisible part of the Constitution, where it proposes putting the President on trial before people like the war criminal Alan West or the treasonous Ted Cruz.

"Date of Operation:  “OPERATION AMERICAN SPRING – Beginning Of Tyranny Housecleaning, May 16, 2014, completion to be determined.  We are past the point of no return, thus must move forward with an effort to save our nation, as there is no other choice.
A duck cannot be turned into a fox; an elephant cannot be turned into a flea; the laws of nature will not permit. The United States of America (elephant) while embracing the "LIE" is teetering on the abyss of becoming a sniveling, blood sucking, undesirable nation (flea). OPERATION AMERICAN SPRING will be a gigantic step in removing the flea infestation that is sucking the blood out of America."

Hey, and here Green Eagle mocked the whole thing until he heard those profound words about the elephant and the flea.  That makes so much sense. Oh wait, it's one of the dumber things he has ever heard.  And never forget:

"The goal is restoring the US Constitution as the law of the land"

Which is to be accomplished by destroying everything the Constitution has to say about how we pick our leaders, and substituting rule of the mob.  That will certainly work, won't it?

Or not- remember that the last Grand March of Millions on Washington to Destroy the Democrats drew about 130 people.  The Great Truckers' Drive In before that drew a couple of hundred.  The Bikers' Ride on Washington drew maybe a couple of thousand.  So it looks likely that these people will get their wish of driving the Black Man out of the White House on January 20, 2017, when he will hand over power to the Woman from Arkansas and her husband, who at least already know their way around the building.  Unless, of course, one of these "non-violent" people succeeds in killing him before his term is up, always a possibility in these days of Patriotism.

In any event, Green Eagle, who has made it his mission to follow the many New American Revolutions that we now see every year, will be keeping an eye out for this one, at which point he will treat you to a few cheap laughs at the expense of these ignorant, vicious jackasses.

Let's See How We Can Ruin the Constitution, Whooppee!

Really, there has been effectively no news for days worth complaining about, so Green Eagle is reduced to mocking a proposed new Constitutional amendment that's making its way around the Wingnut world lately.  Here's the text, followed by some incisive commentary from that noted Constitutional scholar, Green Eagle, who is said to have reduced more copies of the Bill of Rights to shreds with his beak than any other know parrot.

Note: Please swallow any food or drink before continuing.  Green Eagle will not be held responsible for accidental choking.

"The 28th Amendment to our United States Constitution should read as follows: The Congress, the Supreme Court, the Executive Branch of United States nor the Congress of any of the fifty states of the United States of America and all municipalities, counties, or any other body politic associated with government within the jurisdiction of all fifty U.S. sovereign States shall not, in any way, shape, form or fashion abridge or infringe upon the rights of it's citizens whether they be government employees, military personnel, or any person or persons not employed by said entities to openly and freely worship, or display or express their Christian faith based religious beliefs of ANY denomination at any time or any place within the jurisdiction of the United States of America, whether it be private, public or government property including any U.S. military installation or base situated in any part of the globe. In additon, any private business, that provides a private and or public service will have complete rights to refuse service to any person or organization based on it's religious beliefs as well. The Supreme Court of the United States and all of its subordinate Courts as well as State District Courts will be stripped of any authority to hear any case regarding faith based religion of Christianity of any denomination unless it is regarding an abridgement clause violation or any other violation of this Amendment and shall be met with criminal punishment. Moreover, ALL previous rulings handed down by the Supreme Court regarding faith based religion as regards worship, open prayer led by public officials, students or displaying upon government, private or any public property within the borders the United States and it's territories any religious items such as the Bible, The Ten Commandments, Christmas trees, nativity scenes, crosses or ANY other Christian symbol..etc., shall be deemed null void and officially reversed.
Ariticle Five shall also be Amended to include that the 28th Amendment to the Constitution shall never be repealed and have the same protections as States Suffrage rights. This shall remain the law of the land until time indefinite or until Almighty God says otherwise. (complete definitions of each word in this amendment as it is written in context shall be defined so as not to be misconstrued in ANY way by future generations NOR the Supreme Court of the United States of America."

Well, here we go- perhaps there are just a few problems with this specimen of insanity carefully worded document.  And before getting down to details, may I add that this is one of the worst written parodies of legalistic language I have ever heard?

1.  "Congress of any of the fifty states"- Here is a little known historical fact:  The legislatures of the fifty States are not called Congresses.  Who knew, huh?

2.  "...openly and freely worship, or display or express their Christian faith based religious beliefs of ANY denomination..."- Actually, I think there is something which already sort of guarantees that.  It's called the first amendment.  Of course it has the disadvantage (I guess) that it fails to restrict this right to Christians only, revealing a fatal flaw in the thinking of the infallible founding fathers, which it is now our duty to correct.

3. "In additon, any private business, that provides a private and or public service will have complete rights to refuse service to any person or organization based on it's religious beliefs as well."- Otherwise known as legalizing Sharia law.  Nice work there, guys.

4.  "The Supreme Court of the United States and all of its subordinate Courts as well as State District Courts will be stripped of any authority to hear any case regarding faith based religion of Christianity of any denomination"- I bet they are going to have a tough time getting the Supreme Court of the United States to go along with that one.  Note again, the reference to "Christianity," which may slightly conflict with this :  "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..."  No problem, of course- the Constitution only counts when it is in accord with the opinions of a majority of Americans with IQ's below 70, right?

5.  "ALL previous rulings handed down by the Supreme Court regarding faith based religion... shall be deemed null void and officially reversed."- effectively ending the principle of stare decisis and with that act destroying the judicial system of the United States.  But no problem- the right to display Christian symbols is worth wrecking our legal system, right?

6.  "Ariticle Five shall also be Amended to include that the 28th Amendment to the Constitution shall never be repealed"-  Fat chance.  I presume that the part of Article 5 they are referring to here is this:  "This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof...shall be the supreme Law of the Land..." since this "amendment" would do away with the notion that the Constitution is supreme, in favor of the idea that belligerent religious idiots can change the nature of the government whenever they get angry enough.

7.  "This shall remain the law of the land until time indefinite or until Almighty God says otherwise."- Right, guys.

I am going to this trouble to make one point here.  That is that despite the right's constant claims to be the defenders of the Constitution, they don't give a damn about it when it stands in the way of their ultimate plan to impose a pseudo-theocratic dictatorship on this country.

Because we all know, given their values, that they don't care any more about Christ than they do about the Constitution, and that once they take over, the country will be run for the sole benefit of a tiny oligarchy, while the rest of us starve- including 99.99% of the fools that fall for something like this.  The whole Christianity thing is just an attempt to claim their right to do anything they want, in the name of God- window dressing to hide the ugliness behind.

And so, here comes 2014, a year in which right wingers will try to top the heights of ugliness and hatred that they reached last year- a project which they already show signs of easily completing.
