Wingnut Wrapup

Man, the wingnuts were howling today.  It's not often any more that I can get a whole Wingnut Wrapup from a single day's idiocy, but here goes.  And a particular shout out to the guys and gals at Town Hall, who were really off the deep end:

Ann Coulter, Town Hall:  "Send Us Your Violent Bigots, Yearning to Butcher Our Citizens"

How about we just send a couple to you, Ann?

Brent Bozell, Town Hall:  "One Man's Hitler Fascination"

This particularly disgusting post is a smear of John F. Kennedy, based on something he supposedly said sometime in the 1930's.  I love things like this because they really show how little right wingers can find to complain about regarding today's Democrats.

Dennis Prager, Town Hall:  "The 'Muslims-Killed-by-the-West' Lie...Throughout the Muslim and leftist worlds it is believed -- and our children are taught this at college -- that America, the UK. and other countries are targeted by Muslims because we kill Muslims."

Which we never do, of course, according to Dennis.  Those half million or so dead Muslims in Iraq?  Just a figment of your imagination.  And as for Afghanistan:

"First, the U.K. and others are in Afghanistan in order to defend Muslims."

By killing them.  Is there a bigger dick on earth than Dennis?

Katie Pavlich, Town Hall:  "DNC: Republicans Doctored Emails and Are Making Up These Scandals or Something "

Or something?  Or something?  Let me state this for you, Katie.  Republicans Doctored Emails and Are Making Up These Scandals.  There.  No "or something" involved.  Satisfied now?

Jacob Sullum, Town Hall:  "Obama Debates the War on Terror With Himself"

As it turns out, it is an outrage for the President to spend time deciding whether a foreign policy choice makes any sense.  It is his obligation to go for the mindless violence option, the way any good Republican would.  No thinking involved.

Crystal Wright, Town Hall:  "E.W. Jackson All Wrong for Virginia GOP"

It's not his positions, no.  Those, as abominable as they are, don't really differ from what the Republican base believes.  What's wrong with E. W. Jackson?  You tell me:

I'm sure you can figure it out if you look at the picture closely enough.

Zombie, PJ Media:  "Karl Marx Was a Tea Partier...The Tea Party is a workers’ revolution. Modern “progressivism” is a reactionary totalitarian movement. The sooner that honest Marxists grasp this, the sooner “the people” can achieve liberation."

Right- a "movement" founded and funded by some of the most piggish rich people in the history of the world is a wokers' revolution, and the party that at least tries to do something for ordinary people is a pack of totalitarians.  The frightening thing is that this is what Republican voters believe.  Of course, think about this:  what a failure the teabaggers must think they are, that they are now trying to claim Karl Marx as one of their own.

Robert Spencer, PJ Lifestyle:  "When Slaves Choose Their Slavery...A prominent Saudi female activist,” Emirates 24/7 reported recently, has come out against the decision by Saudi Arabia to lift its ban on women driving cars.  Rawdah Al-Yousif complained that campaigns to give women the right to drive…Women are also not ready yet to bear their responsibility and leave their homes at a time when news of blackmail against the women are widespread."

This is a terrible thing to American Conservatives and not anything like their own insistence that women are not ready to control their own reproductive processes.

Andrew Klavan, PJ Media:  "I'll never forget the moment I realized that the villains in my novels spoke the simple truth more often than my heroes did."

What you regard as the truth, Andrew.  Villains speak what you regard as the truth.  The rest of us, by the way, have known that for a long time.

Chris Queen, PJ Media:  "5 Examples of the Value of Faith in Disney’s Classic Films"

Nope.  Nope, you aren't going to get me to bite on that one.  Nope.  I'm not even going to make a joke about someone named Chris Queen who is in love with old Disney movies.  Next thing you know, I'd be talking about My Little Pony.  Even Green Eagle won't sink that low.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Krauthammer: Obama Was Plotting Benghazi Cover Story Before Last Two Americans Were Dead "

And how do Jim and Charlie know that?  Maybe Obama called them up and told them, they being such good friends and all.  Of course this specimen of malicious lying will disappear within a couple of days, without either of these guys having to apologize for spreading a despicable smear.  Conservatism- it means you never have to say you're sorry.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Caught on Tape… College Kids Sign Card Thanking IRS for Targeting Conservatives"

Well, at least someone in the country has some sense.  Jim and his commenters were really outraged about this, because no one in America has a right to have an opinion that differs from theirs.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "AP: Get Ready, Suckers… You’re Going to Lose Your Health Insurance"

Not here in California, suckers.  Only in Republican States.  Deal with it.

Gina Miller, Renew America:  "Boy Scouts choose suicide, and homo-activists are still outraged"

If I explain Gina's thought process to you, your brain will immediately turn into a bowl of post-expiration date hummus.  Only Green Eagle has a mind strong enough to resist this sort of industrial strength stupid.  Trust me on this one, and let's get out of here before it spreads.

R. T. Neary, Renew America:  "Ireland -- is its death knell sounding?"

This is apparently imminent because Boston College is granting an honorary degree to the Prime Minister of Ireland, who supports Planned Parenthood.  Ireland is apparently a very weak country if that is all it takes to bring about its death.  Personally, I don't buy it for a second- Ireland survived the potato famine; it will survive the stupidity glut.

Jim Kouri, Renew America:  "Epidemic of terrorist bombings plague Iraq"

And whose fault do you think that is, bucko?  No, don't answer that.  You're only going to blame it on Obama and Hillary.

Scott Lively, Renew America:  "Satan wins back the scouts"

I don't remember him ever having them.  This was one of nine diatribes about the Boy Scouts letting in gay boys that were to be found on the home page of Renew America today.  Guys, get a life.

Jerome R. Corsi, World Net Daily:  "Tea partier to IRS: Show me YOUR papers!"

Wait- I think I have an old pack of Zig Zag 225's around here somewhere.  Why, do you have the weed?

World Net Daily:  "Hamas 'proud' to kidnap Israelis"

Why shouldn't they be?  Kidnapping Israelis isn't so easy.  Not like catching wingnuts.  All you have to do is leave an open bag of pork rinds on your front lawn, and you can catch a couple dozen in an hour or two.

New York Post:  "Union boss naps in 2-hour workday"

A two hour workday with a nap. Try finding that deal in a non-union job.  Unions, you gotta love them.

Ding, Dong, Another Witch is Dead

Sad to say, I suspect that this has more to do with the six or seven investigations swirling around her at the moment, than any hope that she finally realized what an evil person she is.  And more sad to say, Michelle has become so toxic that I suspect that a new wacko candidate in her insane right wing district will actually have a better chance to hold on to her seat than she does.  So, there is nothing in the big picture that offers much to feel positive about here.

Still, thank heaven for small favors.  With the likes of Louie Gohmert, Ted Cruz, James Inhofe, etc. still around, even the disappearance of a small pest is welcome.  And man, am I sick of seeing her polluting our national discourse with her malicious idiocy.

The Real Thought Processes of the Right Revealed Again

I want to preface this little piece with a recent quote by John Fund, a well known Conservative spokesman:

"Why Are Liberals So Rude to the Right?...All too often the difference between left and right in what should be “polite circles” is quite sharply drawn. Conservatives think liberals have bad ideas and liberals think conservative are bad people."

Right.  Below is a perfect example of Conservatives not being "rude" to the right. I must add as a further preface that I am sorry for subjecting people to this, but I believe it is so important that we know just what we are dealing with in this country.  This is a post from a website called Examiner.com, which caters to the reasonable, decent Americans on the right which we have come to know so well.  As usual, I can't resist adding a few comments of my own.

"While our consulate in Benghazi was attacked during the night of September 11 of last year, our fearless leader was allegedly hiding away somewhere getting “high as a kite” on cocaine. This is the speculation of Kevin DuJan, a self-described “gay conservative political analyst” writing for a publication called HillBuzz."

HillBuzz was a hate filled anti-Obama site during the 2008 election, which was run by right wingers, but disguised itself as a pro-Hillary site. It's still around, spreading its bile to whatever small cadre of readers it has left.

"DuJan states that his claim, which he appears to make based on knowledge and experience of drug addicts, explains the president being missing for most of the evening during the attack on Benghazi.
DuJan explains his theory, writing, “If you’ve ever known anyone who is a drug addict, you’d see it’s obvious that Barack Obama was high on cocaine the night of Benghazi; it is the only logical explanation for his disappearance and the White House’s refusal to comment on what he was doing at the time. Since this was a night of great crisis for our country, the only logical reason that the White House won’t explain where the president was is if this man was high as a kite on illegal narcotics at the time.”

First of all, the White House has not refused to reveal what Obama was doing.  He was in the oval office during a good part of the crisis, and was then in the private quarters of the White House a few hundred feet away, trying to get some rest so he could deal with what he knew was going to be a very stressful next day.

In fact, here he is, in the Oval Office, on the night in question.
This photo has been available since the night of the crisis.

Second,  Dujan's "knowledge and experience of drug addicts" apparently consists of watching Reefer Madness a couple of times.  For your information, Green Eagle, having lived in San Francisco during the seventies, has some real experience of drug users, and cocaine users in particular.  The notion that doing a couple of lines of coke would render any normal person incapacitated is ludicrous, as everyone knows, or Keith Richards would have spent the larger part of every Rolling Stones concert collapsed in a heap on the stage.  DuJan is either an unapologetic liar, or one of the most ignorant people in the whole country.

Proof that you can still do your job on coke.

"DuJan also suggests the president sought out gay entertainment when he left the next day for Las Vegas, writing that Obama was, “jetting off to fabulous Las Vegas for a fun-and-games fundraiser event he had scheduled there (where, it also should be noted, not only Chippendales but also Thunder From Down Under male revues are regularly held…which certainly establishes the appeal of heading to Las Vegas instead of managing a national crisis back in Washington for this particular president)."

Yes, Obama had a fundraiser in a city where male revues are held, proving that he is gay.  He split Washington in the middle of a crisis so he could have gay sex.  What could make more sense?

"Suggesting again the gay theme as well as cocaine use, DuJan wrote, “After reading Lowry’s article, my good friend Justine in California emailed me to ask whether I thought Obama was having sex with Reggie Love during the “missing hours” and if that’s where he was. Justine was an actress and model in Los Angeles back in the late-1970s and ran in the same circles as friends of closeted gay men like Rock Hudson…so her first instinct with Obama and Benghazi is that he and Reggie Love were getting at it and Obama didn’t want to be disturbed.”

Of course!  Not only was the President doing cocaine in the White House, he was having gay sex too!  And what is the proof?  Someone named Justine who  "was an actress and model in Los Angeles back in the late-1970s,"* decided with no evidence whatsoever (if she even exists) that Obama was too busy having gay sex to be bothered with the Benghazi situation.  Oh those Negroes, the sex drive is strong with them!

"Despite speculating about Obama having gay tendencies, DuJan stated he believes the idea of getting high on cocaine that night is a much stronger explanation for Obama's absense during those hours. DuJan explained, “once you take drugs you are pretty much on another astral plane for however long it takes for the drugs to leave your system. I’ve sadly watched a lot of incredible people in the nightlife scene ruin their lives with cocaine over the years, and once these people got high they stayed high until the drugs metabolized enough for them to function."

Again, a complete misrepresentation of what happens to you when you do a little coke.  "...once these people got high they stayed high until the drugs metabolized enough for them to function."  This is totally false, as just about everyone knows.  But of course because Kevin DuJan thinks that this is more likely than that Obama was having a gay orgy, it must be true.  Obama in bed, sleeping next to his wife Michelle, is about a trillion times as likely as either of these smears, but that explanation never occurs to Kevin.

"DuJan closed his article with this question: “Do you think it’s better for the White House to say the president’s location is “irrelevant” or for them to admit “the president was high on cocaine and/or having gay sex in his private quarters”?”

And I will just close my article by saying that this is a perfect example of the right's typical respectful treatment of liberals, as mentioned by Mr. Fund above.   Conservatives scream bloody murder if any left winger voices any criticism of them, no matter how obvious, but then feel free to spew the most virulent, disgusting lies about Liberals.  And they really seem to be unable to comprehend the degraded disregard for truth and common decency that they display.

These people are hopeless.  The sooner they get around to their much-ballyhooed shooting war against the rest of us, the sooner we can put them down like the rabid animals they are, and get on with our lives.  And I mean what I say.  After four decades of watching the right, I do not believe that these traitorous moral monsters are capable of redemption.  The decent people in this country will never be safe from their depredations until they have left this mortal coil forever, and are finally ensconced in whatever Hell they have earned for themselves.

*Note that Green Eagle graciously refrained from pointing out that an unknown someone described as "an actress and model in Los Angeles back in the late-1970s," and who is cited as an expert about cocaine, invariably turns out to have been a prostitute.  Just sayin'

Thanks for the Opinion, Roman.

"Roman Polanski Thinks the Birth Control Pill 'Masculinized' Women"

I guess that's why you had to have sex with 13 year old girls, Roman.  Now, go fuck yourself.  At least that will keep your hands off of any more little girls, since you apparently can't handle real women.

47%

"Nearly half of Americans say that growing marijuana should be legal, and even more support legalizing the growing of hemp, according to a new HuffPost/YouGov Poll. The online poll found that 47 percent said it should be legal to grow marijuana"

Well, at least we've finally found that 47% of Americans who are lazy, indigent moochers that Romney was always talking about.

Wingnut Wrapup

I've got to do something with my Memorial Day weekend, right?

Michelle Bachmann:  "And I think before his second term is over, we're going to see a miracle before our eyes, I believe God is going to answer our prayers and we'll be freed from the yoke of Obamacare. I believe that's going to happen and we saw step one last week with the repeal of Obamacare in the House."

Michelle, actually we've seen steps one through thirty seven with the thirty seven times the House has "repealed" Obamacare.  God sure does work in mysterious ways, doesn't he, since presumably if this is what he wants, he could have made it work the first time.

Nicholas Ballasay, PJ Media:  "Chaffetz Clarifies Impeachment Call to PJM: ‘We’re Not to That Point Yet’"

Yet.  Not yet.  Soon, though.

Laurie Roth, Renew America:  "So many reasons to impeach and try Obama for treason...Evil comes in all colors..."

No it doesn't, Laurie, not to you people.  For you, it only comes in one color.  If you know what I mean.  Laurie continues:

"We have murders and lying cover-ups all over the Benghazi nightmare, and the illegal IRS running our healthcare system as well.  Congress needs to start building the support of public opinion by doing weekly press conferences and carrying forth the reason and steps of either treason charges or impeachment charges. If they don't have the Senate behind them...yet... get the American people behind them with endless and building pressure of press conferences. This will put much needed media pressure on the Senate and more panic in the White House, causing Obama to slip up more and more."

The next three years of Republican governance, laid out in one paragraph.  Here's the funny thing- the Republican party survived the last time they ran off the track like this.  If they were to succeed in removing a popular President again, it would be the end for them.  No decent person could ever again countenance their participation in our government.

Oh yeah, sad to say, unless they go whole hog and just impose a dictatorship.  Which I hope, after all that's happened the last few decades, no one out there thinks is beneath them.  Well, at least one way or the other, it would be over with and we could get on with our lives in America or the American Reich.

Alan Caruba, Renew America:  "On a page from NOAA's National Severe Storms Laboratory offering "Tornado Basics," it asks and answers the question "How do tornadoes form?" It answers by saying "The truth is that we don't fully understand. The most destructive and deadly tornadoes occur from supercells, which are rotating thunderstorms with a well-defined radar circulation call a mesocyclone."

Greens love computer models to justify their absurd claims"

Absurd claims- science.  All the answers you need from Renew America's chief paid climate denier liar.

World Net Daily:  "Sheriff Joe to Congress: Investigate Obama's eligibility"

World to Sheriff Joe:  Grow up.

Mixed Metaphor of the Day:

Geoffrey P. Hunt, American Thinker:  "Obama Tosses a Grenade Into His Own Dugout"

Where's your editor when you need him, Geoffrey?

James Taranto, Wall Street Journal:  "Agents of the government heard President Obama, their ultimate boss, urging them to turn their attention toward evildoers."

And what could be worse than a President urging government employees to turn their attention toward evildoers!  How could the Republican party survive that?

Guy Benson, Red State:  "During Counterterrorism Speech, Woman Heckles Obama For Agreeing With Her"

This is how pathetic right wing attempts to embarass Obama are these days.  They've failed miserably on three straight phony scandals, and now they are reduced to jeering at him because someone heckled him.  However, to them, that is probably an impeachable offense.

Victor Davis Hanson, Town Hall:  "Government is now so huge, powerful and callous that citizens risk becoming proverbial serfs without the freedoms guaranteed by the Founders."

Well, I don't know what a proverbial serf might be, but we risk becoming real serfs if we don't crush the kind of people that pay Victor Davis Hanson's salary.

Guy Benson, Town Hall:  "Polls: Obama Approval Slides Amidst Scandals"

No it hasn't- his popularity is going up.  But what's one more lie in a million?

Erick Erickson:  "Yes, Christ is love, but he is also wrath, vengeance, and redemption. The modern emo Christ is a fiction. Christ could throw a punch."

And you know this how, Erick?  I don't remember him being into the pugilistic art when I read the Bible.  But I'm sure you know better.  People like you are so good at intuiting what Christ was into that he doesn't actually have to say anything about it for you to speak for him.  Like abortion, gay sex, evolution and climate change- you just know what he was thinking.  Not so much with things he actually said, like caring for the poor.  That, you aren't so sure about.

John Hayward, Human Events:  "More details on the Todashev shooting-The fatal encounter between a Tsarnaev associate and an FBI agent grows more complex"

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!  Maybe we can find another way to smear Obama here!

Bob Owens, Confederate Wankee:  "If Barack Obama had a son, he’d be a school-skipping, drug-abusing, gun-weilding, MMA-wannabe who picked a fight with the wrong guy "

No comment needed.  I think we all know where talk like that comes from.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Obama Fails to Salute US Marine – On His Way to Give Commencement Address at Naval Academy...The Commander in Chief failed to salute a Marine today."

Clutch your purses, girls!  We're all going down!

Politico:  "Darrell Issa: Lois Lerner lost her rights"

Legal advice from someone whose only experience with the justice system is as a criminal defendant.  Take it for what it's worth.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Bloody Hell! M15 Offered Woolwich Terrorist a Job Six Months Ago"

M15?  Maybe Jim means MI5?  God this guy really is the dumbest person on the internet.

Judie Brown, Renew America:  "Cardinal Dolan's mess...These are confusing times in which we live. During confusing times, we need leaders who can bring us out of the darkness and offer understanding and leadership. We don't need leaders who cannot teach or help us understand the difference between right and wrong...The cardinal could make this happen.  Let us pray that the cardinal flub becomes a cardinal moment of grace."

At last, a person on a right wing blog who has the decency to criticize a leader of the Catholic Church for not taking a forthright position against the massive child rape that occurred under his watch.  Congratulations for your honesty, Judie...Oh, wait, Cardinal Dolan doesn't seem to give a damn about that.  What Judie is complaining about is that he hasn't excommunicated the Governor of New York for following the law about abortions.  Fooled me again, wingnuts!  Just when I thought that once, in all the years I have been covering you, one of you might do the decent thing.  Oh well, where there's hope there's life.

Sher Zieve, Renew America:  "Now fact: all aspects ObamaGov completely corrupt/criminal"

Wha?  She's finally gone completely off the deep end.  Sorry, Sher- I warned you over and over again to get help.

Jonathon Moseley, American Thinker:  "U.S. Military: We Could Have Saved Ambassador Stevens"

A classic wingnut piece of "journalism."  In fact, Mr. Moseley fails to provide anyone from the military who says that, but mentions two Secretaries of Defense who say the exact opposite.  Mr. Moseley, who appears to be an ambulance chasing lawyer with no military background, knows better.

Kathy Shaidle, World Net Daily:  "Tornado sweeping away Obama scandals?"

God has spoken, Kathy.  Heed his acts.

Alan Keyes, Renew America:  "Totalitarian subversion--can we awaken from the nightmare?"

Sure, if you stop drinking yourself into a stupor every night before bedtime, jackass.

Hatred, American Style

The face of America today?

A while back, I used to spend more time dissecting the entire contents of various right wing articles that particularly aroused my ire.  Maybe my outrage has dwindled, or maybe I've just gotten lazy, but for that last couple of years, I've mainly left such things to blogs that specialize in that sort of thing, like Sadly No or World-O-Crap.  Here, however, is one piece, by Michelle Malkin, that got to me.  Let me remind you that Michelle Malkin is not just any old right wing loon; she has been carefully trained since her college days at the alleged Ivy League institution, Dartmouth, to spread Republican lies, and she has paid off their investment many times over.  Well, on to her latest contemptible pack of lies and racist fear-mongering:

"Gird your loins, America. President Obama intends to empty out Guantanamo Bay and send scores of suspected Muslim terror operatives back to their jihadist-coddling native countries. Goaded by anti-war activists and soft-on-terror attorneys (including those from Attorney General Eric Holder's former private law firm), Obama announced Thursday that he'll lift a ban on sending up to 90 Yemeni detainees home and will initiate other stalled transfers out of the compound."

Apparently, Michelle, who fills her little frame with fury at any perceived, imagined or invented threat to the second amendment, is perpetually so exhausted by her efforts that she never makes it far enough down in the Bill of Rights to read this:

"Amendment VI
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial..."

Now, I don't know about you, but in my opinion holding a person in a prison camp halfway around the world for ten years without even having enough evidence to charge them with a crime, let alone proceed to trial, does not constitute "a speedy and public trial."  In fact, as I pointed out the day after Obama became President in 2008, he should have immediately sent all of the Guantanamo detainees home, and issued a statement to the effect that he was acting in line with his sworn duty to preserve and protect the constitution and that, if any of them ever engaged in terrorist activity in the future, the fault would lie entirely on the execrable Bush and Cheney for having abrogated to themselves the right to simply ignore the plain wording of the Constitution, in order to curry favor with bottom feeders like Michelle Malkin.

"This radical appeasement of Obama's left flank is a surefire recipe for more Benghazis, more U.S.S. Coles and more innocent lives at risk."

In fact, as I pointed out above, it would have been a "radical appeasement" of the United States Constitution.

"A little more than three years ago, the White House assured Americans that it would not release Yemeni detainees back to their al-Qaida-infested land."

What's the difference, Michelle?  Your kind insist that our land is infested with Al Qaida operatives too, so why not send them to live next door to you?

"In January 2010, international press outlets reported that at least a dozen former Guantanamo Bay prisoners had rejoined al-Qaida to fight in Yemen."

Can you blame them for hating the country that kept them in prison for ten years, for no reason other than the racist fearmongering of people like Michelle Malkin?  If these people, most of whom were guilty of nothing we could discover in those ten years, are now terrorists, they are terrorists that we created.  And they are terrorists that our Constitution demands that we have to live with, regardless of the hate-filled screaming of Michelle Malkin.  That is our punishment for not insisting that our leaders act like decent human beings.

"Yemen was also the terror training ground of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the jihadist who attempted to bomb Northwest Airlines Flight 253 on Christmas Day in 2009.

Abdulmutallab reportedly told the FBI there were countless al-Qaida trainees like him in Yemen. The CIA knew of Abdulmutallab four months before his bombing attempt and was aware of him meeting with terrorists in Yemen a month before his arrest. British media also reported that counterterrorism and intelligence officers were "aware of several British nationals and British residents who had trained at camps in Yemen's 'ungoverned spaces.'"

The United States is apparently the training ground of the Tsarmayev brothers, and numerous home-grown right wing bombers and cop killers.  Under Michelle Malkin's miserable logic, it should therefore be perfectly legal to throw any American into a concentration camp like Guantanamo, and keep them there forever, without charges.  And what's more, they would have no right to feel in any way aggrieved by this treatment, because once upon a time someone else from this country did something bad.

"From the very first days of Obama's presidency, Americans in Yemen have been endangered. In late January 2009, the U.S. Embassy in Yemen came under gunfire. American diplomatic staff had been warned of a pending attack. That same month, two former Yemeni Gitmo detainees, Said Ali al-Shihri and Abu Hareth Muhammad al-Awfi, released a video flipping America the bird."

Oh my God, they flipped America the bird!  That justifies any barbaric abuse we wish to inflict on their countrymen, from now until eternity.  And note that Michelle laughably asserts that this has all happened only "From the very first days of Obama's presidency."  As usual, the monstrous damage done by the Bush-Cheney administration's behavior is all blamed on Obama.  And not a shred of it is caused by the raging hatred directed at the people of the Middle East by the likes of MichelleMalkin, who I remind you is not a normal reporter, but someone selected and groomed by the Republican party to spread their message.

And finally, this brings us to the core of the issue:  The people of the Middle East have been subjected to wanton military abuse by Western countries which stretches from at least 1798, when Napoleon invaded Egypt, to the present day, and shows no prospect of ever ending.  This abuse has consisted in bringing war to their territories again and again, subverting their chosen governments in favor of dictators who would do our will, slaughtering their people without a second thought, stealing their natural resources, demanding that they always think of us before they think of themselves, and never once concerning ourselves with their interests.  All of the terrorist acts in the last few decades barely begin to add up to the devastation of one month's work for our government in Iraq.  They have every reason on earth to hate us, and Guantanamo only adds to their legitimate outrage.

We attack them with fighter planes and drones, and they have nothing with which to fight back but a couple of pressure cookers, yet they fight back.  This is presented by the likes of Michelle Malkin as some sort of cowardice, yet it never occurs to Michelle that it is cowardice to sit on an air base in Georgia, and send flying robots to kill them.

"They publicly recommitted to "aid the religion," "establish the rightly guided caliphate" and "fight against our enemies" after undergoing terrorism "rehab" in Saudi Arabia. Charlie Sheen's rehab worked better than that of the Sauds."

And who is "they?"  Some minuscule number of people, whose existence justifies slaughtering anyone who looks like them, speaks the same language, feels a shred of the same anger at the violent injustice that we display toward them?  Why, exactly do we not deserve to be killed and imprisoned without cause, because Michelle Malkin is one of us?

"Military review panels indicated that al-Shihri had traveled to Afghanistan two weeks after the 9/11 attacks, trained and funded jihadists outside Kabul, and coordinated travel for al-Qaida before being captured and held at Gitmo. After his release by the Bush administration, intel officials say he was involved in the deadly bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Yemen's capital, Sana'a, in September 2008."

If any of this were true, why was he not charged and tried for his offenses, in the manner provided for by the Constitution?  Are we expected to take the words of a hate filled liar like Michelle Malkin, as sufficient grounds to destroy lives?

"Al-Shihri has reportedly been killed in drone attacks at least three times and may or may not have met the same fate as fellow Yemeni jihad leader and drone strike victim Anwar al-Awlaki. But this much is clear: Embassy staffers in Yemen have targets on their back, Benghazi-style. The warning flags are crimson red."

I have already discussed why this is true.  I will not repeat myself.

"Yemen also produced Jamal Ahmed Mohammad al-Badawi, the convicted mastermind of the U.S.S. Cole bombing that took the lives of 17 American sailors in October 2000. As I've reported previously on the Yemen jihad revolving door: Despite being sentenced to the death penalty, escaping twice from jail and being indicted in the U.S. on terrorism charges, the Yemeni government freed al-Badawi in 2007 in exchange for a promise that he renounce his old murdering ways.

Al-Badawi remains at large and is on the FBI Most Wanted fugitive terrorist list."

And what, exactly, does any of this have to do with these people, held in a concentration camp for ten years without charges?

"Which side are Obama and his lawyers on, anyway? As I reported in "Culture of Corruption," Covington and Burling, the former private law firm of Close Gitmo crusader and Attorney General Eric Holder, has provided dozens of Yemeni Gitmo detainees hundreds of hours of pro bono legal representation and sob-story media relations campaigns."

Oh, maybe I should have quoted the rest of the sixth amendment, as Michelle seems to have missed it on the many occasions when she was furiously treating us to her rage concerning the second amendment:

"Amendment VI
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence."

Holder's law firm was upholding the Constitution of the United States when it acted as their lawyers.  This means nothing to Michelle Malkin.  In fact, nothing in the Constitution means a thing to her, except when it provides her an opportunity to attack decent Americans.

"While these bleeding-heart lawyers dismiss the perils of Gitmo recidivism, the numbers don't lie. I repeat: The office of the Director of National Intelligence reports that 27.9 percent of the 599 former detainees released from Guantanamo were either confirmed or suspected of later engaging in jihadist attacks. One of those Gitmo recidivists still on the loose is Ansar al-Sharia leader Sufyan Ben Qumu a.k.a. Abu Sufian bin Qumu, the suspected plotter of the 9/11/12 Benghazi attack."

The other 72.1% of Guantanamo detainees, who, as far as we have been able to determine in ten years of investigation, are guilty of nothing, can just rot in hell as far as Michelle Malkin is concerned, and effectively that is what they are doing.  But she doesn't give a damn, because someone else from their country once did something bad.  This is exactly the same logic which the real terrorists use themselves.  And that is why Michelle Malkin is, to any decent American, every bit as despicable as the worst Muslim terrorists.

Tea Party Watch

Hard at work again!  Some of you may know that Tuesday was supposed to be the day the Tea Party re-emerged as a mighty force* in electoral politics.  Here is a notice about the great day, from our old friend, Jim Hoft:**

I thought that it would be a good idea to check in on several of these events, to see how they did.  So, here are some pictures, from various cities. Now, I know that it is generally impossible to get all of the attendees at a demonstration in a picture at one time, but still, these were all taken by Tea Partiers themselves, and presumably offer a pretty good clue of how big these national demonstrations really were:

Well, Green Eagle (apparently having nothing constructive to do this week) took each of these photos and counted the visible people in them.  They're pretty low resolution, so I may be off by a little here, but where I couldn't tell whether something was a person, I gave the teabaggers the benefit of the doubt.  Here's the count, from the first picture to the last:  51, 11, 59, 30, 26.  That's an average of about 36 visible protesters per demonstration.  Again, in fairness, I remind you that there were undoubtedly people at all of these demonstrations that weren't in the pictures, but so what?  Suppose the average attendance was twice this (72) or three times (108)?  That would still represent a horrible, embarrassing, humiliating turnout for a massively funded national movement.

Let me repeat something I realized when I first started going to these demonstrations and reporting on them, at the very beginning of the Tea Party movement:  there is no there there.  This is an entirely synthetic spectacle, in which people like the Koch brothers pay to turn out a minimal number of people- maybe a couple of buses full- and then count on the right wing noise machine to vastly overstate their attendance, and then berate the pathetic mainstream media, who apparently can't count up to 100 or so, into reporting that this miserable showing represents a real national movement.

The Tea Party does not exist, except as a figment in the very fevered imaginations of people who can look at pictures like this and think they represent any real American movement.  Once again, the press has been sold a charade.  But like the charade that claims global warming is a hoax, the charade that says the way to straighten out the economy is by making the poor pay when the rich gamble and lose, the charade that said that Saddam Hussein was a threat to the United States, the charade that government regulation is holding the economy back, instead of keeping it from disaster, the charade of the current Benghazi, IRS and AP pseudo-scandals, that's all the Republicans have.  Luckily for them, they have so many willing buyers in the national press, or the pack of them would have been driven out of the country long ago.

*Not that it ever was, as regular readers of Green Eagle will be aware.

Why the Scandal Outbreak?

A lot of people have been speculating about why the Republicans suddenly decided to ramp up their scream machine about three nonexistent scandals all at once.  I thought at first that this might represent the start of a massive campaign to tar all Democrats as evil, in the run up to the 2014 Congressional races. This may have been in their minds, but I think I now have a better answer.

An examination of Republican behavior the last couple of years tells me that the Republicans were planning to base their entire campaign on the budget deficit, simultaneously doing everything they could to prevent the economy from improving, and screeching continuously that the Democrats were to blame.  This position, of course, was not a serious one, but was intended solely to justify their attempts to force "austerity" on the country; this term actually meaning taking more and more from ordinary people and giving it to the real Republican base- the hyper-rich.

Unfortunately, their great crusade has been dealt two crushing blows lately.  First of all, the "research" on which the push for austerity was based has been shown to be shot full of holes, and particularly in the case of the seminal Reinhardt-Rogoff paper, to likely be just one more deliberate right wing misstatement of the facts.  And far more importantly, even the halting efforts of the Obama administration to deal with the budget deficit left to him by Bush have now succeeded in reducing the deficit by half, and bringing it into acceptable territory. Let's not give Obama too much credit for this- if he had supported Keynesian (translate: "true") economic policies in the manner advocated all along by Krugman, Brad DeLong and others, we would be in far better shape today.  But still, the budget deficit is not at this point a decisive issue to any rational person.

So, the Republicans need something else to stir the cauldrons of outrage.  The truth is that, in five years, they have found virtually nothing to really blame on Obama, so here come the phony scandals:  Benghazi- a meaningless tempest in a teapot based on Republican lies and forgeries; the IRS "scandal," nothing but an attempt to smear the IRS for doing what was its clear job: investigating the applications of political organizations which claimed, in acts of patent perjury, to not be engaging in politics; looking at phone records to discover a very serious leaker of classified information, in a totally legal manner.  Republicans once again count on the corporate press to take their side on all of these scandals, and here we go.  Revising public statements about Benghazi during a time of considerable confusion about what happened becomes a worse crime than Republicans starting a war of aggression and allowing the rich to destroy the economy, just as Clinton's blow job was.  And we are left where we started- frightened, vacillating Democrats, who seem to believe in nothing but staying in office, against feral Republican attack dogs.  And seeing as how the media are totally on the side of the dogs, it's no wonder that so many of our nation's easily soluble problems have become impenetrable morasses, and that meaningless phony scandals push real news out of view.

Laugh of the Day

From Daily Kos"It's pretty much official: Harry Reid will wait until July to have the big fight with Republicans over the filibuster."

Sure.  He'll wait until July.  He'll wait until Hell freezes over.  Who could believe for a second  that Harry Reid will ever summon up the courage, or the respect for democracy, to stand up to Republicans?  This guy is probably the worst majority leader in a century.  He's proven it again and again, and the likelihood that he is going to figure out what his job is in the next two months is approximately zero.

Wingnut Wrapup

It never stops.

Let's just start out today with this stirring declaration:

"An open letter to the Supreme Court of the United States of America
SUBMITTED BY A FRIEND OF RENEW AMERICA — We the People, by the authority vested in us by the Declaration of Independence and secured as unalienable rights by the laws of the U.S. Constitution, do hereby respectfully request the Supreme Court of the United States uphold and defend........."

Well, I guess that was enough of that, huh?  No sense making you lapse into a coma this early in my post.

Twitchy:  ‘They’re gonna look good next to us’: President Prop-aganda recruits Marines to hold umbrellas"

Yes, this is one of the current Conservative outrages- President Obama had a Marine hold an umbrella for him.  God, will the indignities never stop?

Town Hall:  "BREAKING: House votes to repeal Obamacare 229-195"

For the 37th time, with a collective cost estimated to be about $45 million.  Result: nothing.  Conservative government in action.

Town Hall:  "Definition of Insanity: Raising Tax Rates and Expecting a Higher Result"

Real definition of insanity:  Anything right wingers are for.  How could you ever think you'd get more money if you raised rates?

Scott Carter, Town Hall:  "Is There Any Among You That Can Challenge the Claim That Gold Will Double Again"

Brad Jackson, Red State:  "Is the Deficit Really Shrinking?"

Of course not!  That would go against right wing talking points, so it must be false.

Bob Owens:  "I wanted to give everyone an update on Tripp, my daughter’s adorably dumb and incredibly sweet pit bull that had a quartet of seizures the other night and morning. Quite a few of you donated money to defray the costs his care and treatment, so you have a vested interest in his recovery.

We picked him up from the vet shortly before noon yesterday, and he was still very doped up from the loading doses of phenobarbital that the vet put into his system to control the seizures."

Pit bull, huh?  You gave your little daughter a pit bull.  Don't worry, Bob, the drugs will wear off in a couple of days, and Tripp can get back to planning when to eat your daughter's face off.  Listen, Bob, if you want to play macho games with a dog, how about risking yourself instead of your daughter?  Typical chickenhawk right winger- violence is fine as long it happens to someone else.

Bryan Preston, PJ Media:  "How Barack Obama’s ‘Tone’ Left Americans Defenseless and Abandoned in Benghazi"

Oh, now it's his "tone" that was responsible for Benghazi.  Eight months and millions of dollars spent trying to cook up a scandal here, and now you're claiming that it all happened because he isn't a foaming-at-the-mouth warmonger like John McCain.  We tried the warmongers under the last administration.  Not 4 Americans dead, 4600.  How did that work out for you?

Rick Moran, PJ Media:  "What Did the President Know About the IRS Scandal and When Did He Know It?"

See, if we just use the same words as they used for Nixon, that makes Obama just the same as Nixon.

And now, a perfect example of what right wingers have to complain about when they can't find a real Obama scandal in five years:

John Boot, PJ Media:  "Into Nonsense: 4 Ways The New Star Trek Shills for Surrender in the War on Terror...If J.J. Abrams and his screenwriters had their way Obama would not have even taken out Osama bin Laden..."

Star Trek Liberal appeasement.  No, I haven't seen the movie, but if you don't think this is one of the biggest loads of crap you've ever heard, you're brain dead.  I've worked on about fifty movies, and twenty or thirty TV shows, and I don't really remember ever sitting around talking about how to use our shows to "shill for surrender in the war on terror."  Just how stupid are these people, or how stupid do they think everyone else is?

Paula Boyard, PJ Media:  "Can the Left and Right Find Common Ground on Common Core and High-Stakes Testing?"

No.  Not as long as the right's only interest in education continues to be turning it over to for-profit companies.

Richard Fernandez, PJ Media:  "The most striking characteristic emerging from accounts of the IRS audits of the administration’s political enemies is the sheer, unbridled malevolence of them. It was, like a friend told me over dinner, as if we had suddenly awoken “in the middle of the third Obama term” to find everything that could never happen, all that was said to be impossible — indeed unthinkable — suddenly upon us."

Everything?  You mean Sharia law and Communist dictatorship and tens of millions of Christians murdered and concentration camps and all right wing media shut down and worldwide economic collapse and Al Qaida having seats in the cabinet and the military marching in the streets seizing everyone's guns and a foreign spy in the White House and the U.N. taking control of the country and all the other things like that which you have been predicting for five years now?  Boy, it must have happened since breakfast, because I hadn't heard about any of that.

Fred Hutchinson, Renew America:  "Cosmic evil and terrorism...The war by America, Britain, and Israel against Islamist terrorism is destined to be a long war in which all the depths of good and evil will be sounded. This essay concerns the question of whether or not Islamist terrorism is a "cosmic evil."  Today's Islamist terrorists are clearly evil – but are they a cosmic evil?"

Let me try to explain this to you, Fred.  Islamic terrorists:

Cosmic evil:

See?  Not the same thing at all.  Now, go back to your nap.

Michael Barone, Town Hall:  "IRS and AP Scandals Cast a Big Chill on Free Speech "

Yeah, they drove you right off the internet, right, Michael?

Worst Headline of the Day:

Shawn Mitchell, Town Hall:  "Listening to the Pimp with the Limp"

Huh?

Bryan Preston, PJ Media:  "Barack Obama’s ‘Tone’ Left Americans Defenseless and Abandoned in Benghazi"

Right.  It was Barack Obama's 'tone," not the $400 million that Republicans cut from the State Department's security budget.  So glad I understand it all now.

Noah Beck, Amereican Thinker:  "Obama-gate and World War III...Americans are the biggest losers from the slew of scandals now rocking the White House, but who are the biggest winners?  Iran, North Korea, Syria, China, and Russia."

Yes, three phony scandals ALL AT ONCE!!!! And they are going to start WORLD WAR III...Oh my God, oh my God, what are we ever going to do?!!?!??

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Noah here, on some level.  When one of our parties turns into a pack of subversive traitors determined to destroy our government's ability to function, who could benefit more than our enemies?  Good work there, Republicans.

And let's move on the the most laughable right wing nonsense of the decade:

William Sullivan, American Thinker:  "If Government Were a Business, Obama Would Already Be Fired...In the world of business, and in the real world outside government, leadership is invariably implicated in failure"

Oh right, William, just like all those bank CEOs and Wall Street guys who were fired for destroying the economy in 2008.  No, if we really ran the government like a business, every time Obama screwed up, we'd give him a ten million dollar bonus.

C. Edmund Wright, American Thinker:  "How to Bring the Right (Yes, All of Them) Together

Well, I can't say that I actually read much of Mr. Wright's article, but here's my suggestion of how to bring the right (yes, all of them) together:

It's worked before.

Guy Benson, Town Hall:  "Whoa: US Hasn't Detained Five Benghazi Terrorists Due to Trial-Related Evidentiary Concerns"

Of course that might be because the crime was committed in another country and it would take an act of aggression against them to capture the five guys.  But hey, We're America, Buddy.  We go where we want and do what we want!

I wonder how people like Guy would take it if, say, the Iraqis came over here and seized Bush and Cheney for killing a few hundred thousand of their people.  But of course, that's different, right?

John Hayward, Human Events:  "Everyone at the White House knew about the IRS scandal, except the President"

Just think about the last administration, where everyone knew how to tie their own shoes except the President.

Roger Simon, PJ Media:  "PJM EXCLUSIVE: Ex-Diplomats Report New Benghazi Whistleblowers with Info Devastating to Clinton and Obama...According to the diplomats, what these whistleblowers will say will be at least as explosive as what we have already learned about the scandal"

Which is to say, nothing.

And now a perfect example of why Conservatives are soulless monsters:

PJ Tatler:  "Allen West to Receive ‘Heroes of Conscience Award’"

Allen West was forced out of the military for toturing prisoners.  What a hero of conscience.

Late Correction:  I've now determined that the photo above that I identified as Islamic terrorists is actually a shot of people celebrating the opening of the first Jack in the Box in Teheran.  Their masks got a little crushed in shipping.

Not One Cent for Tribute

I've been watching the massive devastation of the tornadoes that struck Oklahoma yesterday and today.  Before we get around to sending them any money, I hope that people will keep in mind that both of their Senators and four of their six Representatives voted against the final Hurricane Sandy relief package.  And those two Senators, Inhofe and Coburn, are right at the front of the corrupt anti-global warming pack that is guaranteeing that things like this happen more and more as time goes on.

Call me insensitive, or any other name you want to use.  I'm tired of having them stab us in the back every time and then come around whining that we are horrible people if we don't give them whatever they want.  Let the folks from Oklahoma who keep electing these evil people fix their own God damned State.

An Iraq Story

Saddam Hussein- a terrible, blody dictator, yes.  But also a man who saw that a greater portion of his country's wealth went to useful causes than in any other Arab country.  He oversaw the building of the best infrastructure in the Arab world, the best educational system, the most universal health care.  Women and non-Muslims enjoyed greater opportunities and security than in any other Mideastern country (Israel excepted, of course.)

Saddam is gone now, and all of the above has vanished too.  Iraq seems about to descend into sectarian warfare which will crush the lives and hopes of a large part of its people, largely thanks to the American aggression that destroyed civil society in that country.  I think it is time to talk about how this mess of a country came to be in this state.   It is a story that few people in the U.S. have any knowledge of, but it is an interesting one.

The current country of Iraq is made up of three Vilayets, or provinces, of the now almost forgotten Ottoman Empire.

Here you can see the Ottoman empire at the start of World War I.  As you can see, there is no entity called Iraq.  If you know where Iraq is on the map, you can clearly see the three Vilayets that made up the inhabited area that is now Iraq.  (Note some inland areas which were essentially uninhabited but are now part of Iraq are not shown as part of the Ottoman Empire- it basically ignored them because they had no political or economic value.)

By the twentieth century, the Ottoman empire had been rotting away for a hundred years.  Egyptians in the early 1800's led by Muhammad Ali (not the boxer, the guy he named himself after) had established a good deal of autonomy.  For decades the Ottomans' Balkan territories had been descending into nationalistic, sectarian warfare, which would eventually precipitate World War I, and sweep away this empire of a thousand years.

In the aftermath of World War I, the victorious allied countries abrogated to themselves the right to control the future of the Middle East.  Britain was given the "mandate" to run the area which is now Iraq, which in part required them to provide military security to that area.

After the war, a Conservative politician who had disgraced himself by becoming the chief advocate of the disastrous Gallipoli invasion, and who was now trying to work himself back into a position of power in Britain, accepted the unenviable job of running the mandate.  You may have heard of him- his name was Winston Churchill.

Like Conservatives everywhere, Churchill's only real interest was in dealing with his responsibilities by doing as little as possible, and spending as little as possible.  He was faced with providing a stable environment for these three Vilayets, the one to the north primarily Kurdish, the center one primarily Sunni and the southern one primarily Shiite, which had never been united, except as the property of the Ottoman empire.  Here was his plan, which he induced the British to accept at the Cairo Conference of 1921:  The three provinces would be united into one country.  The British would accept no military responsibility other than providing an air force for the region.  The rest of its military responsibilities would be sloughed off on a new government that the British would create.  Churchill decided that he could give the government a veneer of legitimacy by picking one of the three sons of the Saudi King as its leader.  The eldest son was out of the running of course, because he was heir to the Saudi throne.  That left the other two, one of whom was an intelligent and decisive person, the other, Faisal I, a weak, easily influenced tool.

Attendees at the 1921 Cairo Conference, where the Conservative
British government decided that their budget deficit was
more important than the welfare of the Iraqi People.  That's Winston at the bottom right.

I hardly need tell you who Churchill and the British chose to head the new country of Iraq.  The guy was "approved" by the Iraqi people in a meaningless, rigged election, but owed his position entirely to the British, and therefore accepted Churchill's scheme for security in the country, despite everyone knowing that his government was grossly short of the money and support necessary to  provide adequate military resources for the task.  Thus was created a country that was strategically untenable from the very beginning, entirely to satisfy Conservative demands for budget cuts in Britain.  And thus was begun Iraq's rapid descent from monarchy to dictatorship to chaos.

King Faisal the First of Iraq

Sad to say, the story does not end in Iraq.  What happened to the "good" son, who was passed over for the weak one?  Well, he was not one bit happy about the situation, and made very credible threats to the security of the new country, backed by many Arabs who saw him as by far the best choice for king.  So the British decided they had to buy him off.

Now, let's turn our attention to another British Mideast mandate- Palestine.  As you may know, by the end of World War I, the British, through the famous Balfour declaration, had determined to split their Palestinian mandate into two countries- East of the Jordan river, and including about two thirds of the mandate, a State governed by the resident Arabs, and West of the river, a State for Jews, who had been returning to their homeland in large numbers since the mid-19th century.  This arrangement, approved by the League of Nations, was never to be allowed to take effect.  Instead, Churchill bought off the other son by giving him the land East of the river as his own little kingdom, and leaving Jews and Palestinians to fight over the remainder, seemingly forever.

What the West has left behind.  Is it any wonder that they don't like us?

Thus, in one blow, Churchill, acting according to ageless Conservative cant designed to buy the goodwill of the voters by cutting government costs, managed to create the Iraq quagmire and the Israeli-Palestinian one too.  Once again, Conservative politics produced nothing but disaster, but on it goes, inflicting its disasters over and over again.  And as long as greed exists, and contempt for anyone of a different ethnic background,  it probably always will.

Why The United States Is About To Fall to Fascism

In one short lesson:

President of the United States (falsely) accused of altering Benghazi story for some sort of unexplainable political advantage:  Penalty, impeachment.

Republicans actually caught forging documents about Benghazi for the purpose of destroying the President:  Penalty, nothing.

Just More to Complain About

Miscellaneous nonsense from the last couple of days:

A. The Deficit

Now that the deficit is shrinking rapidly, what do you think will be the Republicans' response?
a.  Hey, we don't actually need to screw poor people and old people any more.
b. It's time for another tax cut for the rich!

Take a guess!  If you're wrong, you get a 6" railroad spike through your ear.  Not that it will make much difference- if you choose a, you obviously don't have a brain.

B. The Real IRS Scandal

The real IRS scandal is that all of the synthetic, funded-by-the-rich Teabagger groups, and Karl Rove's money factory, and all of the rest of the bogus organizations organized for the sole purpose of electing Republicans, were not immediately stripped of their tax exempt status, and the people who submitted the legal forms asking for that status imprisoned for perjury.  And this includes the Catholic Church and all of the many evangelical churches around the country that openly flout the law by using their positions to campaign for Republican candidates.

C.  Eric and Louie

So, it's big news that Eric Holder actually had the balls to talk back to Louie Gohmert.  See, Barack, it didn't hurt so much to tell the truth.  Why don't you try it some day?  You're great at making speeches, if not much else these days, so how about telling the American people that the Republican party has turned into a traitorous fifth column that is sabotaging the country as fast as it can?

D.  Barack's Base

And while we are on the subject of Obama, it's clear that he's decided that the people who elected him twice have nowhere else to turn, so he can afford to let them rot, in order to maintain faith with those who he really cares about- the Wall Street financiers and the bankers who put up the money for the quadrennial dumb shows to convince people that he is slightly less of a corporate tool that the Republicans.  Right now, Obama's behavior the only thing on earth that promise to resuscitate the Republican party from the land of the living dead.  Which is just a way stop, by the way, on the road to the land of the dead dead, where the Republican party belongs, and where it would have been if it hadn't been rescued by the feckless Obama.  What an opportunity he had to really make a difference, and what a pathetic result, thanks to his determination above all else to keep the money flowing, from the people who wrecked the economy into his campaign coffers.

E.  Give It Up Already, Bob

And how about that idiot Bob Woodward, comparing Benghazi to Watergate?  This guy is the Charles Lindbergh of reporting.  He does one attention getting thing in his whole life, and spends the capital pushing right wing ideas for the next forty years.  At least Adolf Hitler is dead, because otherwise, Woodward would be pushing him too, like Lindbergh did.

Sort of makes you wonder if Carl Bernstein wasn't responsible for the whole Watergate investigation, and Woodward just got to go along for the ride as the token goy.

Lies and the Lying Liars

This is absolutely astounding news.  As everyone who isn't hibernating in a cave must know, the Obama administration has been the victim of an endless series of Republican claims that it has lied about what happened in Benghazi, with many Republicans calling for Obama's impeachment for these alleged lies.  Now, we learn this, from CBS News:

"MAJOR GARRETT: Scott, Republicans have claimed that the State Department under Hillary Clinton was trying to protect itself from criticism. The White House released the real e-mails late yesterday and here’s what we found when we compared them to the quotes that had been provided by Republicans. One e-mail was written by Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes. On Friday, Republicans leaked what they said was a quote from Rhodes. “We must make sure that the talking points reflect all agency equities, including those of the State Department, and we don’t want to undermine the FBI investigation.” But it turns out, in the actual e-mail Rhodes did not mention the State Department. It read “We need to resolve this in a way that respects all the relevant equities, particularly the investigation.” Republicans also provided what they said was a quote from an e-mail written by State Department Spokesman Victoria Nuland. The Republican version notes Nuland discussing: “The penultimate point is a paragraph talking about all the previous warnings provided by the Agency (CIA) about al-Qaeda’s presence and activities of al-Qaeda.” The actual e-mail from Nuland says: the “…penultimate point could be abused by Members to beat the State Department for not paying attention to Agency warnings…” The C.I.A. agreed with the concerns raised by the State Department and revised the talking points to make them less specific than the C.I.A.’s original version, eliminating references to al-Qaeda and affiliates and earlier security warnings. There is no evidence, Scott, the White House orchestrated these changes."

The vicious, evil, unpatriotic subversives who have been doing everything they can to destroy the functioning of our government have now been demonstrated to be themselves the liars about the whole thing (as if this was not inevitable.)

After months of endless show trials and posturing on this issue, who will now investigate this?

Who will work for months to see how these lies were generated?  Who will see to it that those responsible for tearing down the fabric of our government will be dealt with?  Who in the press will find these clear lies half as important as the phony lies that Obama was alleged to have told?

Who?  No one.  Because that's not the way you treat Republicans.  Destroy Democrats because you can't stand it that they keep winning elections- do nothing to Republicans in the face of treason, corruption and war crimes.  That's the rule in this country.

Wingnut Wrapup

Yeah.  Again.

Katie Kieffer, Town Hall:  "Journalists Must Be Bulldogs...What happened to the bulldogs in the media? When it came to covering the Benghazi terrorist attack, the media sounded like a pack of Chihuahuas."

Katie, when a bulldog bites into something, it makes sure that the target has some meat on it.  Think about it.  Bulldogs don't waste their time chewing on nothing.

Town Hall:  "MSNBC: Yeah, Benghazi Could Lead to Impeachment for Obama"

The way Republicans behave, sneezing in front of a microphone could lead to impeachment for Obama.  Or shooting a jump shot.  Or...no, wait a minute- Green Eagle could get caught up in this and spend the whole day on it.

Daniel Horowitz, Red State:  "This is a Scandal We Must Not Let Slide"

Which one this time, Daniel?  On second thought, who cares?

Anita Crane, Renew America:  "Downfall coming through coalition of Islamists and Marxists?"

Don't forget the lizard people from outer space, Anita.  I'm sure they are in on it too.

Hugh Hewitt, Town Hall:  "The Internal IRS Whitewash of the Great Tea Party Purge: We Need A Special Prosecutor"

I think you mean a special persecutor.  Like maybe this guy:

And he's even cuter than Louie Gohmert.

Walter E. Williams, Town Hall:  "...if you want lessons on hating America, college attendance might be a good start."

Yeah, like Liberty University or Regent University, or Glenn Beck University, or any other Conservative education scam, where they teach you to hate everything this country is supposed to be about.  But they make good money doing it, so it's all right.

George Will, Town Hall:  "If IRS Under Bush Admin Targeted Progressives 'We Would Have All Hell Breaking Loose'"

No we wouldn't, you lying son of a bitch.  The Bush Administration IRS targeted liberals on multiple occasions, and you guys never gave a damn.  The incidents passed with hardly a second thought, probably because no one ever expected anything better from Bush and Cheney, for obvious reasons.

Bob Dane, Town Hall:  "American Workers Ask: “What’s in it for me?  Senate Bill 744 will grant legal work authorization to 57 million green card holders and non-immigrant guest workers over the next decade."

Funny that, when it's about immigration, it's perfectly fine for American workers to ask what's in it for them.  When it's about anything Democrats want, it just proves that they are a bunch of no good, lazy ass moochers.

Todd Starnes, Red State:  "IRS Targeted Well-Known Christian Ministries"

And it's about time too.  I'm sick of subsidizing their hatred.

John Hayward, Human Events:  "Left-wing groups sailed past the politicized IRS...Heightened scrutiny? Not if you had ties to Barack Obama.  Left-wing groups sailed past the politicized IRS"

Surprise, surprise, another lie!  In fact the only group actually stripped of its tax exempt status was a left wing group.  But what does the truth mean to Republicans and their press stooges?

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit"  "Obama Administration Releases 100 Pages of Benghazi Emails …(But No Word on Why Barack Was AWOL)"

Oh I don't know, Jim, maybe that's because your claim that Barack was absent during the Benghazi crisis is ANOTHER LIE, just like everything else you guys have to say.

Stephen Stone, Renew America:  "Mormons morphing Boy Scouts into 'Girl Scouts'?"

Boy, that would be a trick.

Tim Dunkin, Renew America:  "Impeach, impeach, impeach!"

I'm afraid that is as far as I got into Tim's post.  Sorry.  I took a nap instead.

Eric Giunta, Renew America:  "Meet Florida conservatives targeted by Obama's IRS"

No thanks.  I'd rather be chewed on by alligators.

Cliff Kincaid, Renew America:  "Five months before Barack Obama was elected to his first term as president, Herbert Romerstein and I finished a Washington, D.C. briefing on "The Stealth Candidate" – Barack Obama – and his communist connections. I opened it up for questions. "I'm Dana Milbank from The Washington Post," said the questioner. "So what's the upshot? Do you think that Barack Obama is a communist?"  Not wanting to fall into an obvious trap, I replied, "We have no way to judge."

But Herb told Milbank: "No, let's answer that one a little differently. We're telling you that you're not doing your job. We didn't say Obama was a communist. We said that you have to do due diligence in tracking down what Obama really is because right now he's a stealth candidate. So, if you don't do your job, that's your problem."

Dana Milbank also didn't do his due diligence in tracking down whether or not Cliff Kincaid regularly has sex with farm animals.  After all, there's less evidence for Obama being a Communist than there is for that.

Michael Bresciani, Renew America:  "Where is America - as the clock approaches the midnight hour?"

There.  Wasn't that better than listening to a couple more minutes of right wing crap?

Dick Morris, Renew America:  "Using IRS against your enemies an 'impeachable offense'"

If you're a Democrat.  If getting a blow job is an impeachable offense, I guess anything is.  On the other hand, committing one of the worst war crimes since the Nazis is apparently not so serious, if you are a Republican.

Joseph Farah, World Net Daily:  "The Benghazi lies just keep coming"

They'd stop if you guys would just shut up, Joseph.  Think about it.

Breitbart.com:  "IRS leaked info on conservatives to media...The progressive-leaning investigative journalism group ProPublica says the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) office that targeted and harassed conservative tax-exempt groups during the 2012 election cycle gave the progressive group nine confidential applications of conservative groups whose tax-exempt status was pending."

When you apply for tax exempt status, that information becomes public.  Don't like it?  Pay your taxes, asshole.

Racist Cheap Shot of the Day:

J. R. Dunn, American Thinker:  "If Obama had an Uncle...he'd look like Kermit Gosnell."

Because they all look alike, right?

Nick Chase, American Thinker:  "The Still-Forgotten Obama Lie"

Oy.  Another one.  And what is it this time?

"... we have a hot tip for you: there's one big Obama lie that's two years old that you completely missed.  In fact, you suppressed the truth.  And you don't have to dig very hard to find this lie; it can still be downloaded at any time from whitehouse.gov for your own inspection and analysis.  It's the Obama long-form "birth certificate" forgery."

God in heaven above.  What does the word 'lie' even mean to people who are still pushing this?

Astute Bloggers:  "THIS COULD BE EFFING HUGE: What did the national security briefings Romney received say about Benghazi?"

Yeh, it could be huge.  And it could also be absolutely nothing.  Guess which one Green Eagle is placing his money on?  The Astute Ones continue:

"If Romney got a national security briefing that was in effect EDITED by the Obama Administration, then Obama should JUST EFFING RESIGN.

REALLY.

If Romney received edited intel' ... well, that would be beyond dishonorable.

It would mean Obama was deliberately deceptive and destructive to our entire electoral process and our democracy."

Because it was Obama's responsibility to spill every piece of top secret intelligence he had to a sociopathic pathological liar who was willing to stoop to anything to destroy him.  Right.

Greg Gutfield, Breitbart:  "Here is a simple fact: a liberal president operating with a liberal media leads us to a really unpleasant place--populated with programs, policies, and principles that are woefully inept and corrupt."

On the other hand, a conservative president operating with a conservative press leads us to wars of aggression and depressions.  Oh, and did I mention that the "woefully inept and corrupt" thing is a lie?  Surprise, surprise.

Patrick Caddell, Breitbart:  "Obamagate: The Focus Is Barack Obama"

Obamagate. So they have given up on anything specific, and are finally admitting that the real outrage is Obama being President at all.  And you know why, don't you.  Being Black- an impeachable offense.  Even being half black.  If he was all black they'd be out buying the rope for the lynching.  With tax exempt social welfare funds from Karl Rove.

Guy Benson, Town Hall:  "Benghazi: New Emails Confirm State Dep't Drove Political Edits to Talking Points"

Actually, they confirm the exact opposite, but so what?

Michael Reagan, Town Hall:  "Do you think the Benghazi, IRS and AP stories might have been covered any differently if the president's name didn't start with "O" and his party didn't start with "D"?"

Yeah, they would have been totally ignored, Michael,  just like practically all of the treasonous, corrupt conduct of your father when he was President.

Repair Man Jack, Red State:  "Restoring The Republic: Destroy The America Left...Do Everything In Your Power To Destroy The Modern Left."

Well, at least he's honest.  I read the same sort of thing not that long ago. Let's see, where was it now?  Oh yeah, in Mein Kampf.  Jack asks the following question:

"What does the average American Leftist really believe about Americans with whom they disagree?"

If they are people like you, Jack, we think that they are lying, traitorous, hate filled scum that will betray us to anyone for a few hundred dollars.  And by the way, we're right.  Deal with that, asshole.

Roger L. Simon, PJ Media:  "Back in the USSR: ‘Honey, Disconnect the Phone’  With the IRS evidently watching our every move and the AP and who knows who else under surveillance, I feel quite literally like I'm back in the USSR. And I haven't even left home."

Try holding off on your daily drinking until dinnertime, Roger.

E. Michael Maldoff, World Net Daily:  "Could THIS THREAT LEAVE HALF IN U.S. DEAD?  Threat surges as sun spots zero in on Earth"

And people at World Net Daily still wonder why no one takes them seriously as a news organization.  On the other hand, work this idea up.  You might be able to sell it to SciFi Channel.  At least you'd be doing honest work for a change.

Newsmax:  "Like a Rock: Study Shows Republican Men Are Stronger"

From the neck down.

And that's it.  I'm out of here.

Green Eagle Can't Resist a Cheap Shot

Courtesy of Crooks and Liars, here's a typical Conservative candidate, a guy who claims to be named Richard Sheridan, speaking to a reporter that dared to question his rabid gaybaiting:

But is this really a guy named Richard Sheridan, or is he not in fact this occasional visitor here at Green Eagle:

And bonus points for answering the following question:  Which did you find more interesting, the guy's rant or the turkeys in the background?  Inquiring minds want to know.

IRS- The Latest Republican Phony Scandal

Oh, the outrage!  How dare the IRS question the honesty of tea party groups who asserted in legal documents that they were primarily social welfare organizations, not political groups!  Who would ever think such a thing!  And how dare the IRS single them out and not make a move against liberal groups!

Here we go again, with the usual Republican mountain of outrage, designed to smear the Obama administration and at the same time ignite more hatred against the government and particularly against having to pay taxes.  And of course, the tools in the mainstream press are likely going to do the bidding of their rich masters and run with this phony scandal all summer long, despite the fact that anyone with an hour or so to spend can completely deconstruct the whole lying pack of nonsense.

Well, here is what I have found out in my hour of time.  First of all, the IRS' scrutiny was not directed solely at right wing organizations:

"Liberal groups received same IRS letter that ignited Tea Party outrage...The maelstrom over the revelation that the IRS targeted anti-tax Tea Party groups applying for tax exempt status for scrutiny is showing no signs of slowing down, with Republicans seeing their chance to milk a scandal for political purposes. But while the politics is heating up, some important context is emerging, like the fact that liberal groups were targeted as well, and in fact the only group to have its application denied was a liberal group."

Well, that's the least of the problems with this latest non-scandal. Now on to the real outrage.  Here are a few excerpts from an official IRS document* entitled "IRC 501(c)(4)Organizations   ByJohn Francis Reilly, Carter C.Hull, and Barbara A. Braig Allen:"

"IRC 501(c)(4) provides for exemption of:

Civic leagues or organizations not organized for profit but operated exclusively for the promotion of social welfare.

Local associations of employees, the membership of which is limited to the employees of a designated person or persons in a particular municipality and the net earnings of which are devoted exclusively to charitable, educational, or recreational purposes.

Organizations that promote social welfare should primarily promote the common good and general welfare of the people of the community as a whole.  An organization that primarily benefits a private group of citizens cannot qualify for IRC 501(c)(4) exempt status.

an organization that loses its IRC 501(c)(3) status because of excessive lobbying or political campaign intervention may not be treated as an organization described in IRC 501(c)(4)."

A few remarks on the above.  First of all, let me point out that despite the clear wording of the above, at some point in the past, the IRS decided to replace the word "exclusively" with the word "primarily."  If you are interested in why this happened, you are welcome to read more of this IRS document, which contains numerous short explanations of cases the IRS has ruled on, which show that many groups which were clearly social welfare organizations under the meaning of this act had minor activities which could have resulted in their being denied their appropriate status (i.e. bingo games run by charities, which could be seen as a for-profit activity.)  Unfortunately, this change in interpretation left the act open to the most egregious abuse.  The notion, for example, that Karl Rove's political smear factory is a "social welfare" organization is ludicrous; yet it continues to claim tax exempt status, due to the IRS's utter failure to enforce this law with appropriate action.

Now, a few comments from an article in the Columbia Journalism Review, which I found via the Daily Kos post linked to above:

"• Congress requires the IRS to review every application for tax-exempt status to weed out organizations that are partisan, political, or that generate private gain. Congress has imposed this requirement on the IRS, and its predecessor agencies, since 1913.

• When it comes to 501(c)(4) organizations, what the IRS is supposed to do is draw a distinction between groups that are “primarily engaged” in politics and groups that really are primarily engaged in “social welfare”—somehow “promoting the common good and social welfare of the community.”

• The first scandal here, meanwhile, is that the social welfare tax exemption is being used by existing 501(c)(4) organizations, including some very large ones, to promote partisan political interests—the very activity Congress has explicitly prohibited for a century"

What must be noted here is not that the IRS exceeded its mandate by examining these organizations, but that it was legally obligated to examine all of them; and the real scandal here is that every single one of these purely political groups was not denied its tax exempt status.  And further, it is even more of a scandal that Rove's group and the many like it that were formed in the wake of the miserable Citizens' United decision were not laughed out of Washington when they applied for tax exempt status for the hundreds of millions of dollars that their few thousand rich donors spent to buy elections.

But still, we are treated to the mindless regurgitation of the Republican point of view from our mainstream press, such as this example from the Voice of the Serious People, the Washington Post:

"The fact that Tea Party groups — especially smaller organizations — appear to have been specially singled out for scrutiny is what most troubles many experts here. Not least because larger, politically oriented groups like Crossroads GPS and Priorities USA were able to form 501(c)(4) organizations with little trouble.

“The targeting aspect of this is god-awful,” agreed Douglas N. Varley, a Washington-based lawyer with Caplin & Drysdale who deals with tax-exempt organizations. He adds that the agency’s special focus on conservative groups is a much bigger deal than the sheer number of questions that were posed to groups seeking 501(c)(4) exemption, which isn’t by itself unusual."

The targeting aspect of this was not God-awful.  It was one hundred percent appropriate, as required by law (which this ignorant reporter would know if he had bothered to do any research beyond regurgitating Republican talking points.)  Is there a person in this country that does not know that the tea party groups and all of the other Republican groups like Rove's existed for no other purpose than to elect Republican candidates?  When they applied for tax exempt status, they openly perjured themselves by claiming that they had any other purpose.  It was the legal responsibility of the IRS to question the legitimacy of their criminal filings, and what is more it was the legal obligation of the IRS to deny every single one of these applications.  What is "God-awful" is that the Republican party, along with its stooges in the press, are intimidating IRS officials into not applying the law, so that they may enjoy the privilege of openly breaking the law every day that these organizations exist.

*If you want to read the whole thing (be my guest- I did and it didn't quite kill me,) here it is.
