It Figures

As the right wing continues to boil in fury over the made-up, vicious smear it is now calling "Weiniergate," what do you think CNN's reaction was to this completely false, manufactured lie?  Why, of course...today they invited serial liar Andrew Breitbart, who is responsible for spreading it, to come on their network and "explain" to the American people what it is all about.

Just get ready.  If you think this is bad, wait until you see what they have in store for Obama and the Democrats in 2012.  They're just draining off our outrage at this point, hoping to exhaust us before they get to the real hate.

Update:  I didn't actually hear this segment on CNN.  I have now learned that Breitbart used his appearance to accuse Weiner, without one shred of evidence, of having had multiple affairs with young girls.  His CNN hosts did absolutely nothing to confront him on this blatant, vicious lie.  On the other hand, if a Democrat accuses a Republican of trying to destroy Social Security and Medicare (something which they have been openly working to accomplish as long as these programs have existed,) well, that is way out of bounds, and the person who brought it up needs to be severely chastised and treated as a pariah ever after.

Like I said, these are the rules that are going to govern the 2012 election.  Get ready- it's going to be ugly when the hyper-rich and their bought-and-paid-for media do what they have to do to con the American people into voting for them.

Right Wing Smear Machine Moves Into Operation

Here is an all too typical example of the utter indifference to common decency which characterizes the right in this country.  Consider the following rather distasteful photo:

This photo was published by Andrew Breitbart Saturday morning.  He alleged it to be a picture of the penis of Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner, which, Breitbart claimed, had been sent by Weiner via Twitter to a 20 year old college girl in Washington.

Now, remember that, though Breitbart has established an extensive record of spreading false, malignant smears against Democrats and pro-Democratic organizations, he is still regarded as an acceptable news source by Fox, CNN and others in the mainstream media.

By this morning, two days later, it had been determined that the above photo had neither been sent by Congressman Weiner, nor received by the girl in question.  In other words, it is a blatant forgery, by a well-known forger.

Nevertheless, this story was picked up and spread through the right wing world with lightning speed.  Here are a few of the wingnut websites, some of them among the most read online sites in existence, which reported it as proven fact:

Red State
Confederate Yankee
Power Line
Pajamas Media
Gateway Pundit
World Net Daily
Freak Out Nation
Angry White Dude
Human Events
The Spectator
Right Condition
Free Republic
American Spectator
Business Insider

And believe me, I could go on and on- I'd had enough by this point.  So this thoroughly sickening story has now been spread throughout the right wing world, and will remain an established fact among Republicans, like the death panels, the fact that Obama is a Muslim, and a thousand other such smears.  And you know perfectly well that not one of these websites will have the decency to admit that they were wrong or publish one word setting the record straight.

And by the way...the totally innocent girl who is a victim of this smear?  She has been subjected to a vicious campaign of abuse and threats by anonymous right wingers online.

Your Republican party at work.

Not Quite the Worst

In a good, but otherwise unremarkable article in The Guardian, about Republicans' attempts to talk away the fact that the 9-11 attacks happened on their watch, Megan Carpentier makes the following statement:

"(Former Bush press secretary Dana) Perino started the re-write of history in November, baldly stating: "We did not have a terrorist attack on our country during President Bush's term." (Mary) Matalin picked up the torch shortly after Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab set his crotch on fire, claiming that Bush "inherited the most tragic attack on our own soil in our nation's history."

"The most tragic attack on our own soil in our nation's history?" I don't think so.  I seem to remember one other attack that produced not three thousand deaths, but ultimately caused hundreds of thousands of Americans to lose their lives.  That would be the Confederate attack on Fort Sumter.

The racist jerks that make up the Republican party today aren't admitting any connection with that either.

An Unsurprising Story

This:

"In Florida, Criminals Pose as Police More Frequently and for More Violent Ends"

What's so strange about that?  They have a criminal posing as their governor, and that seems just fine with them.

Mainstream Press- The Collaboration Continues

Here are another couple of stories that illustrate why the American people still trust the Republican party anywhere but in a prison:

From our newspaper of record, The New York Times, this perceptive account of Sarah Palin's current bus tour to nowhere:

"The bus tour has sparked renewed speculation that Ms. Palin is making plans for a surprise entry into the 2012 Republican presidential race. If she decides to run, the bus tour suggests it will be as a nontraditional candidate who does not play by the usual rules of political campaigns."

Perhaps they have forgotten, or more likely, assume the American people have forgotten, this:

Yes, John McCain pulled the same stunt just four years ago, but to the New York Times, when Sarah Palin does it, " the bus tour suggests it will be as a nontraditional candidate who does not play by the usual rules of political campaigns."  And it doesn't even bother them that they are lying on behalf of a candidate who hates them and everything they stand for.  No, they know their real job, and it isn't telling the truth to the American people.

Now, here's another example of truth run under the Republican steamroller, with press assistance, in an Congressional Quarterly interview with Mitch McConnell, via Crooks and Liars:

"We only have to look back a week for a perfect example of this phenomenon, when Mitch McConnell said this in an interview with Congressional Quarterly:

"Last week, the Social Security trustees issued a report saying Social Security and Medicare are not sustainable under their current structure."

Back in the day, when we had a functioning press corps instead of a cocktail-weenie-wagging press corpse; back when we had real reporters doing actual journalism instead of the steno-pool full of faithful scribes who can be counted on to regurgitate right-wing talking points unchallenged; back then, that sort of nonsense would have been a bit in the teeth of the reporter, who would have done his or her homework ahead of time, and McConnell would have been hammered mercilessly with the fact that the trustees said no such thing."

But of course, if the truth were to somehow leak out, the rich would lose their chance to panic the American people into letting them steal us blind, so once again, the lying Republican narrative is given a pass.

Now for what the press pretty much decided isn't worth reporting:

"A man who drove to Madison, Wisconsin to kill an abortion doctor faces federal charges for intending to attack a Planned Parenthood office in Madison, Wisconsin and murder abortion providers. Ralph Lang, 63, was arrested Wednesday night when his gun went off in his motel room not far from the Planned Parenthood clinic that he planned to attack Thursday. According to a criminal complaint filed Thursday in U.S. District Court Lang said he had a gun "to lay out abortionists."

This Christian terrorist came very close to carrying out his plan, but the story will be virtually ignored, because it might compromise the Republican narrative of hate toward Muslims.  In the meantime, any ludicrous story of Sharia law in the U.S. or any other supposed Muslim atrocity will be found to justify endless publicity.

Good bye truth- good bye democracy.

Republicans Have a Plan

The Republican Party, whose favorite slogan is Obama is a Muslim America First, has finally delivered on its campaign promise to focus like a laser beam on jobs, jobs, jobs.  How nice of them.  They have released a multipage report (well, the print is very big) entitled The House Republican Plan For America's Job Creators...Empowering Families, Small Businesses and Enterpreneurs, and let me tell you, in its seriousness as a guide to the future it is fully up to previous Republican efforts along these lines.

But let me not speak for them.  Green Eagle has carefully extracted from this document every single sentence that could be regarded as presenting a concrete proposal, and here it is:

"In order to ease the regulatory burden on the economy and to promote job creation, we will approve legislation that requires a congressional review and approval of any proposed federal government regulation that will have a significant impact on the economy."

I.e. making it essentially impossible to impose any regulation whatsoever on corporations

"We will set the top tax rates at no more than 25% for job creating businesses."

I.e. tax cuts for the rich

"Congress should also reform the tax code to allow worldwide American companies to bring back their overseas profits without being subject to double taxation so they can invest in our economy."

I.e. rewarding American corporations for moving our jobs to third world countries.

"We will pass three pending free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea. This will be a shot in the arm for businesses small and large and will create jobs."

I.e. doing even more to encourage American corporations to move our jobs to third world countries.

"We will modernize and improve the patent system to discourage frivolous lawsuits, expedite reviews, and provide better protection for job creating entrepreneurs."

I.e. allow corporations to steal ideas from inventors without fear of legal reprisals.

"After a systematic review of our visa system, the Congress should undertake prudent reforms. The House Judiciary Committee is reviewing our visa system to determine the needs of American employers."

I.e. while we scream about illegal immigrants, we will see to it that businesses are free to bring in as many as they want if it helps them lower wages.

"There are two major programs that must be reauthorized next year by Congress to improve the FDA approval process: the prescription drug user fee program and the medical device user fee program. Under these two programs, the FDA collects funds from industry to help expedite the drug and device approval process."

I.e.- no government medical care, but large subsidies for pharmaceutical companies

"House Republicans are taking immediate action through our American Energy Initiative by passing bipartisan legislation to expand energy exploration and production."

I.e. drill wherever you want, baby, and to hell with the environment.

"We will work to control the federal deficit"

By destroying medicare and Social Security.

Well, there you have it.  I promise- you have now read every single word of concrete proposal in this sick "jobs"  plan.  Remember this when, in the coming months, you hear the press and the wise and noble Washington pundits praising this cynical document as a courageous, constructive step toward dealing with the country's problems, and pretending that another round of theft by the rich is a perfect solution for this country's problems.

Update:  And here's a perfect example already.  From the Washington Post, this headline:

"Obama, GOP unveil competing plans for job growth"

It is embarrassingly obvious that the GOP plan is not a "plan for job growth," but the same old giveaway to the hyper-rich that they have been promoting since they drove Teddy Roosevelt out of the party, this time with a title that speciously claims to be about jobs.  But we get this grotesque false equivalence rather than a headline like "Obama unveils plan for job growth while GOP  once again serves the wealthy;" which would have the advantage of being true.  They know this perfectly well at the Washington Post, but they are still willing to participate in the Republican lying, regardless of the cost to the country.  And this is what passes for news in America today.

Will She or Won't She?

I can't believe the idiotic blather swirling around the national media about whether or not Sarah Palin will run for President.  Can these people really be ignorant enough to have any doubts about this question?

To state what should be one hundred percent obvious to the most naive American:  this self-serving, avaricious demagogue will run for president if either:

A. She thinks she can manipulate the teabagger controlled Republican party into nominating her

or

B:  She can make a lot of money off of all the free publicity.

She will not run if either

A: She doesn't think she can get the Republican party to commit mass suicide by nominating her

or

B: She can't figure out a way to make enough money to justify sullying herself for months with actual interaction with her dupes.

I hope this answers the stupid question of whether Sarah Palin intends to run for president.

"Pro Israel"

A statement by a nameless Republican congressman (they're all interchangeable any way) led me to say something that I have been thinking about for a while.  Here's the quote:

"[W]here is the outrage from the American Jewish community? Don’t they understand that the president is not pro-Israel?"

I see this "not pro-Israel" crap a hundred times a day on the blogs I read for Wingnut Wrapup.

Well, here's what I wonder:  Would these people react in equally jingoistic fury if someone was accused of being, say, "not pro-France" or "not pro-Germany?"  After all, France and Germany are just as much our allies as Israel.  In fact, Republicans savaged John Kerry and other Democrats for being too "pro-France" and during the 2008 campaign, they attacked Obama for giving a speech in Germany.

Now, let me state as I have before that I have lived in Israel, and am a strong supporter of its existence.  Still, don't we all know that these attacks on Obama are nothing but a way of implying one more time that he is a Muslim?  And don't we all know that these people don't really give a damn about Israel, or they wouldn't do everything they can to sabotage any real possibility of peace between Israel and its enemies.

What they do accomplish is to sink all of our political discourse into a cesspool of lies and smears- a field of battle where they have a commanding advantage.

Update:  This headline today from Red State:

"War Is Preferable In the Middle East To The Peace Most Likely To Be Imposed"

Preferable for whom? Because, of course, they won't pay the price.  They'll be sitting in their basements eating their cheetos and cheering for someone else to suffer so they can live out their infantile, violent fantasies.

Why the Nazis Lost World War II

Idiocy beyond the conception of lesser men:

"In his new book Amazing Dogs: A Cabinet of Canine Curiosities, Cardiff University historian Jan Bondeson mines obscure German periodicals to reveal the Nazis' failed attempt to breed an army of educated dogs that could read, write and talk.

According to the book, scientists envisioned a day when dogs would serve alongside German troops, and perhaps free up SS officers by guarding concentration camps. So to unlock all that canine potential, Hitler set up a Tier-Sprechschule (Animal Talking School) near Hanover and recruited "educated dogs" from throughout the country."

If only they'd had a little more time, this was bound to work. Yes sir.

On the other hand, someone did teach Michelle Bachmann to talk.

Undefeated

Sarah Palin has a new "epic" movie coming out this summer.  It is called The Undefeated.

Good title.  They can't defeat you if you quit first.

Ass

This guy:

"As Joe Lieberman winds down his two-decade career in the Senate, the onetime Democratic vice presidential nominee is reaching out to an unlikely group to help seal his political legacy: freshman Republicans.

Behind the scenes and in front of the cameras, the retiring foreign policy hawk is grooming, mentoring and partnering with a handful of GOP freshmen to ensure that, long after he’s left the Senate, his vision for America’s role abroad survives."

What a monster.

Democrats Who Don't Have A Clue

Episode three million- how about these dueling headlines:

"Kathy Hochul (D) wins Upset in NY-26 Special Election because of Medicare"

"Hoyer: Cuts to Medicare are on the table...At his weekly Capitol briefing with reporters Tuesday, House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) confirmed what aides in both parties have been telling reporters: Cuts to Medicare will be on the table in deficit and debt limit negotiations"

How, I mean HOW can these guys be so stupid?  Don't they even care about their own re-election?  Man, it's hard fighting the evil people when the representatives that are supposed to be on our side are such a bunch of idiotic jackasses.

Green Eagle Enters Politics

Yes, Green Eagle has gotten tired of just squawking and has found a perfect place for himself, where he can use his unique expertise for the common good.

Today, he found this stirring appeal on the internet:

"The liberals and gays from California to Florida are crowing about the recent Congressional resolution on Slavery Apology. Should we really apologize for something that we didn't do? The logic follows were they better off when brought to America, and if not should we pay to send them back? How evil was antebellum slavery?"

Oh, I don't know...very, very evil or just very evil?

"What determines that slavery in America was evil?"

Perhaps a minimal sense of common human decency.

"If the Bible indeed is the final authority on right and wrong, then what does the Bible say about the institution of slavery?"

Well, hate to break it to you, but if the bible is for slavery, then it is most definitely not "the final authority on right and wrong," just the final authority on wrong.

"A new foundation is the key to restoring our freedoms and liberties. The Confederacy has suffered far too long while the United States has been bringing about its own destruction. It is time that we end the abuses and return our nation to its rightful place.."

Restoring our Constitutional Republic cannot happen without the election of Delegates to the Confederate Congress. Are you ready to make a change? Are you willing to be there on the front lines? Are you ready to turn talk into action?"

Yes, Green Eagle has decided to step forward and place his name in nomination to be a Delegate to the Confederate Congress!  I know you wish him the best, so perhaps you can help him with the application questionnaire.  Here it is, with Green Eagle's answers:

Have you ever been convicted of any criminal activity?

No, but you guys are a sore temptation.

Are you a member of an organization that might compromise your serving with the Confederate Congress? (if yes please explain)

Yeah, it's called the United States of America.  Ever heard of that?

In your opinion what is your stance on what a Constitutional Republic should be?

How about one that charges with treason those who wage war against it or give aid and comfort to its enemies?

Explain what a free society means to you.

Like, where no one owns anyone else.  Can we agree on that part?  No...I guess not.

Explain in re-building the Southern Confederacy, what you feel will bring our nation and our citizens to prosperity and liberty.

Having the Southern States leave the country so the rest of us don't have to support you lazy, ignorant bums while you go around spouting your hatred.

What role should government play in society?

Protecting the rest of us from rich people and the morons who lap up their stupid propaganda and do their bidding, like the idiots in the South that fought a war to protect the right of rich planters to own other people.

How do you feel government on the state level should function?

They should act like decent human beings, not slimy, lying, greedy racist right wing dicks.

Please add any other comments you would like for us in considering your application.

You lost.  It was a hundred and fifty years ago.  Deal with it already.

Well, what do you think?  Green Eagle is a sure winner, huh?  Why I bet they elect me Speaker of the House or something.

By the way, if you would like to be a Confederate representative too, here's the place.  I think it would be nice if a lot of us show our support for this noble endeavor.

Major Republican Election News

Tim Pawlenty announced his candida.....

Whoops- I fell asleep.

You Can't Keep A Good Liar Down

Particularly when there's money to be made from it:

"OAKLAND, Calif. – A California preacher who foretold of the world's end only to see the appointed day pass with no extraordinarily cataclysmic event has revised his apocalyptic prophecy, saying he was off by five months and the Earth actually will be obliterated on Oct. 21.

Through chatting with a friend over what he acknowledged was a very difficult weekend, it dawned on him that instead of the biblical Rapture in which the faithful would be swept up to the heavens, May 21 had instead been a "spiritual" Judgment Day, which places the entire world under Christ's judgment, he said.

The globe will be completely destroyed in five months, he said, when the apocalypse comes. But because God's judgment and salvation were completed on Saturday, there's no point in continuing to warn people about it, so his network will now just play Christian music and programs until the final end on Oct. 21."

Right.  Here's my question:  Since  "God's judgment and salvation were completed on Saturday," will this already quite rich man stop attempting to collect money from his followers between now and Oct. 21?

Well, at least anyone who believes this guy from now on deserves not one second of our pity.

Ready to Raise Cain

In case the Repubicans are stupid or desperate enough to nominate Pizza maker Herman Cain to run for President, Green Eagle is already prepared with a bumper sticker:

There you go.

What Real Israelis Think

Since Obama's speech about the middle east a few days ago, we have seen an avalanche of Republican attacks accusing him of selling Israel down the river.  These vicious attacks continue despite the fact that his position differs very little from the positions of the previous three Presidents, and just about every other sane person in the world.

Having lived in Israel, I am growing increasingly intolerant of these right wing dicks who claim to speak for the Israelis, and who constantly misrepresent how real Israelis view their predicament.

I want to suggest, for anyone interested in the truth, rather than Repubican cant, that you try reading the Israeli newspaper Haaretz for a few days, and learn the truth.  You might want to start with this opinion piece, about the Palestinian claims to a right of return.

Yes, this article represents the left end of Israeli thinking, but remember that here it is, in Israel's largest newspaper.  The truth is, Israelis are far readier to accept the realities of the middle east than American right wing ideologues are; in fact it is a crying shame that Americans are not as willing to see the reality of their own nation's historic behavior as Israelis are.

We know that the attacks on Obama on this issue are really dog-whistle claims that he is really Muslim.  The Repubicans don't care how much damage they do by clinging to their racist attitudes, particularly as long as it is people ten thousand miles away who are going to have to pay the price.

Wingnut Wrapup

Well, it's been a while.  After a few days of manic lying to try to deny that Obama accomplished anything when he took out Bin Laden, and few more lies to explain away Obama's having crushed them on the birther thing, wingnuts have fallen into a deep depression.  It is only with great difficulty that I have been able to dredge up this mediocre crop of contentious bilge:

"(CNN) – Sarah Palin has given few indications in recent weeks she is still actively considering a presidential run, but the former Alaska governor said Thursday she has the “fire in my belly” to mount a bid for the White House.

“I think my problem is that I do have the fire in my belly,” said Palin."

Try not eating Italian Sausage subs so close to bedtime, Sarah.

Bryan Fischer:  "Muslims have been [inbreeding] for fourteen hundred years and because this is what Muhammad did, they always will do this, they will always defend it, they will always practice it.  And this kind of inbreeding results in an enormous cost in intellectual capacity"

Look who's talking.

Debra Saunders, Town Hall:  "As governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin "demonstrated many of the qualities we expect in our best leaders," The Atlantic's Joshua Green reports in a must-read story. "She set aside private concerns for the greater good"

She set aside private concerns for the greater good-  would that be like when she quit the job that the Alaskan people entrusted her with, in order to fly around the country making $12 million a year?  Of course, perhaps Joshua Green isn't as mendacious as we might suspect.  Getting any government control out of Sarah Palin's hands is the greater good.  Let her keep the $12 million, as long as she stays out of politics.

But wait- there's more:

"Green could not help but wonder what might have happened if Palin -- somehow as a running mate -- had been able to steer Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign"

Oy.

"When McCain picked Palin, his campaign team thought the media would hail Palin as a fellow maverick, a moderate who could work with Democrats and avoided polarizing social issues"

Senility? Delusion? Drugs?  We report-you decide.

Confederate Yankee:  "Corps of Engineers to Flood Productive Farmland to Save Fetid Cesspool"

That would be New Orleans. I think he means because you-know-what-kind-of-people live there.  Farmers, in Mr. Wankee's world, are all white.  Mr. Wankee continues:

"if the Corps hadn't created the current system of levees and canals, nature itself would have been able to distribute the flood waters as God intended to make fertile cropland and a home for man and beast alike."

See, it's all the government's fault.  Things would be so much better if the government would do nothing.  Too bad Confederate Yankee didn't give us this idea a few weeks ago, so we could have saved a lot of money after God gave Alabama 200 tornados.

Newsmax:  "Bachmann steps up to fill 2012 GOP void"

What is she, the fourth person to step up to fill the 2012 GOP void in the last month?  First, there was The Donald, then Huck, then Newt and now Michelle bloody Bachmann.  These days, they seem to last about a week before demonstrating themselves to be lying buffoons.  Well, Michelle fits right in with that company.  Let's see how long she can ride the pony.  If not, we've got the Pizza guy coming next.

Wes Vernon, Renew America:  "Yes, some children do lie"

No!  Wes, next thing you are going to try to tell me that some dogs actually BARK!  I'm not going down that slippery slope.

Doug Giles, Town Hall:  "Can you imagine the consternation the ubiquitous uberliberal profs of our nation’s radical Left-leaning universities must have felt as they watched the students they’ve worked their butts off to brainwash dispense with said profs’ anti-American blather and instead shout for joy that the SOB UBL is now officially ODPF (one dead porn freak)? "

No, but I don't need to imagine the consternation that you right wingers felt. I've got about ten thousand web posts to prove it.  Let me rephrase that:  It's you right wingers that were driven to rage and denial when Obama got Bin Laden, not the liberals.  It's you that can't stand the idea of American success, not us.  Deal with that, liar.

Austin Hill, Town Hall:  "Are Jewish Americans Undermining Israel?"

Yes they are.  Particularly the right wing ones that sit here, ten thousand miles away, and do everything they can to manipulate Israel into one devastating war after another.  As Usual, do the damage, then blame the liberals.

Leon Wolf, Red State:  "Texas Becomes First State in 50 Years to Actually Cut Budget Spending"

After paying off their $17 billion dollar deficit with Federal stimulus money.  Leon forgot to mention that.

And now a special Joseph Goebbels gold statue for fitting the most smear words in one paragraph:

Michael Oberndorff, Renew America:  "It's necessary to make clear, though, that Obozo has never had an original idea in his life. He's a knee-jerk Alinsky Marxist, a greedy, two-bit community organizer who has been used and manipulated by others — e.g., billionaire George Soros, et al., the Chicago Democrat Mob, etc. ad nauseam. He clearly is a willing stooge, though, as they've rewarded him with riches and power, both of which he has ostentatiously abused with abandon."

Man, that's hot, even for Renew America.  Sher Zieve had better watch out- a challenger appears.

And the jingoistic lie of the day:

Star Parker, World Net Daily:  "The Ryan plan restores freedom, ownership and personal responsibility to center stage of entitlement reform."

"Personal responsibility."  I.e. bankruptcy.

And the other jingoistic lie of the day:

Pat Boone, World Net Daily:  "You cannot reduce debt by increasing it."

First of all, what does anyone think they are going to learn from the blatherings of a geriatric, drug-addled ex pop star?  Anyway, I guess Pat has just established that no one in history ever made money by taking out a loan to start a company.  I guess we'd better start taking Pat's advice by doing away with  Wall Street, because that's what stocks are all about.

Wait a minute...no Wall Street?  Maybe Pat's on to something after all.

Whoops- It Didn't Happen

Earthquakes over the last 24 hours
Just another normal day in paradise.  That Jesus- can't show up anywhere on time.

Solving the Federal "Debt Crisis" the Rational Way

Via Daily Kos, this great article in (of all places) the Washington Post, by Harold Myerson:

"Where else can we identify a comparably large group of drainers of the public till?

Happily, the Tax Foundation — a conservative Washington-based think tank — has, however unintentionally, provided the answer. In 2007, the foundation published a survey of 2005 federal spending in each state and compared that with each state’s contribution in federal taxes. In other words, the foundation identified the states that sponge off the federal government and those that subsidize it. The welfare-queen states and the responsible, producing states, as it were.

The list, alas, hasn’t been updated — in part, no doubt, because conservatives didn’t like what it revealed: that those states that got more back from our government than they paid in were overwhelmingly Republican.

If we’re really serious, then, about reducing the deficit entirely through cutbacks, the solution is clear: Cut off these slacker states. As we can’t very well expect them to support legislating an end to their slothful dependence on our sugar-daddy subsidies, the only real solution is to reduce them to vassal status, strip them of their congressional and electoral college representation, and compel them to pay what they owe America’s producing class. If need be — we can’t just go on passing the debt to the next generation — by force.

Take taxes off the table and it’s either the South (and kindred sponger states) or the seniors. I say, the South. It’s time for bold choices."

I have referred to this survey numerous times.  These greedy pigs continue to pursue their endless campaign to live off the efforts of the rest of us;  instead of trying to find a constructive way to carry their own weight, they spend their time blaming anyone but themselves and their own greed for the country's downfall.

It's really a shame that the rest of us got stuck having to support these Southern losers, like some thirty five year old slacker son, living in the basement, writing blog posts about Ayn Rand and eating industrial-quantity bags of Cheetos.

Alright, Already, Joseph, You Win...Obama's Birth Certificate MUST Be a Phony!

Well, here it is, ladies and gentlemen, hot from the burning intellects that are Joseph Farah and Jerome Corsi, what we will all finally agree is conclusive proof that Obama's new birth certificate is a phony.

This issue is so vital to the future of our country, that I feel justified in reproducing their shocking findings at some length.  I am sure they would approve:

"Here is a close-up of the registrar's stamp on the White House-released document:"

"Additionally, with a magnification of 800 percent, the distinct form of a smiley face can be seen on the side of the "A" in Onaka's first name. The figure appears to be a side profile of a face with a nose, eye and mouth."

"...the smiley face (is) not seen on other examples of the state registrar's seal, such as the copy of a long-form birth certificate released by the Hawaii Department of Health as recently as March 15:"

"Why would the Hawaii DOH allow the document issued to the president to contain an obvious smiling face hiding within the first letter of the state registrar's signature?

Or, could it be the work of a forger leaving his mark, laughing at those who take the document seriously?"

"Below is a hand-drawn version that illustrates how the face appears in the letter:"

Well, there you have it! The Smiley Face that brought down a tyrant! Can there any longer be a doubt that Obama is a foreign born Muslim with no right to be our President?  We have mocked Farah, while all the time he was capable of mustering such unrefutable scientific evidence as the above.  And I think you must admit that it is the final image, carefully generated in the Farah Forensic Laboratories, that really makes this argument so convincing.  His commenters were so on the mark with remarks like this:

"the forger may have WANTED the President to be caught. Shame on the President and his Staff for not looking this dud over much closer before sending it out to be investigated by the world.

impeach this lying "Bastard".

"...the election itself would almost certainly have to be thrown out. It is a Constitutional crisis. I believe (and I may be wrong) that since the Speaker of the House is next in line and his election IS valid that this crisis would be solved by instal of Boehner as president. "

"If guilty, he needs to be imprisoned - or hung for treason - after a fair trial and conviction, of course."

Oh, of course after a fair trial.  With, perhaps, Joseph Farah and Jerome Corsi as judges.

Minnesota Republicans Humiliate Themselves Again

This time Republican State Legislators, who invited the following pathetic specimen of humanity to deliver the daily benediction this week:

This is one Bradley Dean, who has, in the way of ministry, specialized in delivering Hitlerian denunciations of gays, and who came through as promised in front of the legislature, with the addition of the obligatory right wing claim that Barack Obama is not a Christian.

Bradley also happens to be an alleged heavy metal musician, who is a member of " the second-best unsigned band in the nation."

For your information, this title was bestowed upon them by a "Christian Heavy Metal" magazine, so take it for what it's worth.  (That would be zero.  We see a lot of live music in our family, and I guarantee you that this guy's band wouldn't be the three hundredth best unsigned band in the San Fernando Valley.  My wife's band could play these guys into an early grave while warming up.)

Just for general information, here's what a real heavy metal musician looks like:

Notice the following:  First of all, this guy looks like a man, not an overgrown little boy.  Second, he has enough muscles to play heavy metal for more than ten or twelve seconds.  And finally, he is not wearing what appears to be a particularly ornate tinfoil hat.

And finally, Bradley, just to sum things up, I watched your videos.  You hold your drumsticks like a five year old girl.

WARNING!  Do not attempt to follow Green Eagle's example and listen to Bradley's music.  Green Eagle is a professional.  He emerged unscathed from the experience, but he strongly recommends against it for those without very strong stomachs.

Well, now for the kicker.  Guess who is a friend of this pathetic specimen, who has raised money for his gay-hating "ministry" and who he supports too?  Michelle Bachmann!  Well, loons of a feather, huh?

Tea Party Shows Its Force

Here's a great picture of a tea party the other day in South Carolina, featuring their lunatic governor Nikki Haley, and showing the ability that this mighty movement has to mobilize the American Masses.
The website that featured this, Dangerous Minds, had the following comment:

"If a picture paints a thousand words,  A.L. and Louise Geddings were lonesome representatives of the laughably low turnout yesterday when SC governor Nikki Haley spoke at a Tea Party rally at the Statehouse in Columbia

Organizers for the event said they were expecting 2000 people to show up, but just 30 attended."

As readers of Green Eagle know, I have been documenting the sham that has always been behind the facade of the tea party.  This picture pretty much sums it up.  Still, it suits the mainstream press to go on pretending that the teabaggers are a major presence who need to have a voice in our affairs.

By the way, with this few people there, why did that ass Nikki Haley not go up to them and speak to them personally, instead of standing thirty yards away and shouting at them through a microphone?  What a bunch of jerks these people are.

Show Trials

I remember long ago when I was in school, being taught about the show trials that were a regular part of life in the USSR under Stalin.  Do you remember that too?  Officials that fell into disfavor would be regularly hauled in front of tribunals where, in an effort to preserve their careers (or their lives,) they would abjectly confess in public to all sorts of supposedly sordid sins, and beg for forgiveness.

What reminds me of that is what has been going on in the Republican party the last couple of years.  Look at Newt, not that I have a shred of sympathy for him.  Twenty years of prostituting himself in every possible manner for the Republican party; a career in which nothing was too low for him to do if the party demanded it, and what is his reward?  One inconvenient statement, and he is savaged by a hundred Republican officials, talk show hosts and bloggers.  He's through.  One misstep, one truth that accidentally fell from his lips and he is run over by the Republican juggernaut.

Think of all the elected Republican representatives in the recent past who have been forced to humiliate themselves in public, for daring to speak out against the drug-addled, lying gasbag Limbaugh.

This has become a political party in the same sense that Stalin's Communist party was one.  Who ever thought we would see such an open betrayal of American values in our lifetime?  Well, one thing we could have predicted...like always, this sort of thing would be carried out by people with patriotic cant dripping from their lips at every opportunity.

Why We Elected Jerry

Tremendous news for anyone like my family that has an unfortunate familiarity with California education (and that in the rest of the country too) from our Governor, Jerry Brown, whose interest in children apparently extends farther than creating more of them with the maid:

"California Governor Jerry Brown has taken a big step towards reducing the testing mania in the nation's most populous state. Up until his administration we have been on an accelerated path towards the comprehensive data-driven system that test publishers and corporate reformers have convinced leaders is needed to improve schools. But in the May Budget Outline from Brown's office, he makes it clear he is putting on the brakes.

The budget outline says:

"A number of problems have been identified with California's state testing, data collection and accountability regime. Testing takes huge amounts of time from classroom instruction. Data collection requirements are cumbersome and do not provide timely - and therefore usable - information back to schools. Teachers are forced to cub their own creativity and engagement with students as they focus on teaching to the test. State and federal administrators continue to centralize teaching authority far from the classroom.

The (Brown) Administration proposes to deal with these issues by carefully reforming testing and accountability requirements to achieve genuine accountability and maximum local autonomy. It will engage teachers, scholars, school administrators and parents to develop proposals to
(1) reduce the amount of time devoted to state testing in schools;
(2) eliminate data collections that do not provide useful information to school administrators, teachers and parents; and
(3) restore power to school administrators, teachers and parents."

This miserable testing regimen was forced on the country's public schools by the Bush Administration, and I can tell you that it was for one reason only, and that is the usual Republican one: taking money from the poor and giving it to the rich.  Repubicans know that poor parents can never afford to give their children the advantages that rich people can; and when their kids inevitably don't do as well on standardized tests, it provides a justification for taking money away from their "underperforming" schools, in order to subsidize the children of the rich.

And while we're on the subject of Jerry Brown (you knew this was coming) here's the other reason he's such a great governor:

I rest my case.

The Greatest Republican Statement of All Time

Newt Gingrich:

"let me say on the record, any ad which quotes what I said on Sunday is a falsehood."

Newt, I think you could have left out the "on Sunday" part.

And More:  Newt's spokesman on his humiliation by his Republican "colleagues" the last few days:

"Washington cannot tolerate threats from outsiders who might disrupt their comfortable world."

There's nothing that says Washington outsider like being a former speaker of the House of Representatives.

Things that Hardly Need Saying

Chris Matthews:

"“I think Sarah Palin proved herself to be — I think she’s proven herself to be profoundly stupid,” Matthews said to applause on-location in Los Angeles. “Her inability to answers the questions of Katie Couric, her inability of even now to explain if she ever reads anything.”

“Her absolute failure to begin studying and get serious about running for president,” he continued. “She has shown no effort to doing any homework or understanding issues about the economy or science or the world. No effort and she’s running for president? I don’t believe she would be at all helpful to our republic.”

Another Chapter In Press Collaboration

This time illustrated by an article in the Washington Post today, by Jonathan Bernstein, in which the author suddenly discovers that Newt Gingrich is not a responsible politician:

"Newt is a problem of the GOP’s own making

Republicans are embarrassed and infuriated that a prominent GOP presidential candidate, Newt Gingrich, blasted their House-passed budget and its Medicare plan in extreme language...Of course, Newt’s attack was entirely disingenuous.  Newt has always been a radical, and so it’s not surprising that a couple of weeks ... Newt saw Paul Ryan’s Medicare plans as too modest."

Funny that Mr. Bernstein, like most of the rest of the mainstream press, never saw a problem with Gingrich for twenty years while he was setting new records for political hypocrisy, lying and dirty dealing.  But of course that was all directed toward Democrats.  Suddenly, when Gingrich says something which incidentally happens to be quite true, but which throws a monkey wrench in Republican plans to plunder the economy, Mr. Bernstein wakes up and realizes that it is now time to notice Gingrich's consistent behavior.

"But that aside, the bottom line is that Republicans had this one coming. Look: House Republicans, the people who really had to deal with him on a day-to-day basis, took only a few months to begin plotting against him back in 1995, and they were fully prepared to get rid of him three years later. "

Yes, the Republicans had this coming, not because they cultivated this evil man, built him into a national figure, and let him do his worst for all this time, including perpetrating the most outrageous abuse of congressional power in American history; no- it is because they "plotted" againsty this truly evil man and were prepared to do without him.

"Surprise, surprise: he’s still the same old irresponsible Newt, willing to say pretty much anything as long as it’s phrased as strongly as possible."

Surprise, surprise:  The press was willing to celebrate Gingrich as a brilliant intellectual, and give him a constant platform to push his nonsense a decade after his behavior had driven him out of political life.  But let him say anything, however accurate, which interferes with the agenda of the rich and their Republican stooges, and it suddenly becomes obvious that he needs to be struck down.  Attempting to destroy the President of the United States for behavior which Gingrich himself was engaging in at the same time- that was just fine.  Criticizing a Republican scheme to destroy Medicare- that was a step too far.

A Word About Ol' Huck

Well, front runner Mike Huckabee has "decided" not to run for president.  Anyone with a brain knows that Huck is just one more lying Republican demagogue who would do anything to get his hands on real power.  He dropped out for one reason and one reason only.  After the last couple of weeks, he knows that he can't beat Obama, and neither can any other Republican anyone can think of.  Short, of course, of the Republican party causing a total economic collapse.

Of course, that is exactly what many of them are working to accomplish, so you never know.  We could still wake up on January 20, 2013 with President Gingrich in charge of a country in a depression.

Not Going After the Black Vote, I Guess

"Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), who announced his candidacy for President today, just told Chris Matthews on Hardball that he, too, would have voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964."

Your Liberal Press, On the March

Count of guests on Sunday talk shows this week:

Republicans  13
Democrats 1

A Shocking Statistic

This one:

" If our nation were to return to the rates of incarceration we had in the 1970s, we would have to release 4 out of 5 people behind bars."

One more result of the sickness that has overtaken our country since the presidency of Ronald Reagan- seeing prisons as an industry.  Just as greed, fueled by Reaganomics, has devastated our real estate business and our health care system, it has allowed millions to be imprisoned, primarily to benefit those employed in the prison sector and those who run prisons-for-profit.

Those who insist that the inevitable inefficiencies of government bureaucracy could ever be worse than this outrage, are lying or are deeply morally defective.

Blasphemy

Rambling around the internet, I found this wonderful bit of biblical exegesis by a gun nut:

"We must never forget the prophet Isaiah’s warning: Godless nations will one day stop training for war and start cooperating with one another by confiscating our swords, melting them into ploughs and forcing us all to become farmers. Substitute the word “swords” for our modern-day guns, and you’ll get the dire picture Isaiah was trying to paint."

Really? Funny, I never understood that passage as meaning that, but then I am not a Man of the Lord like the writer of the above.

Well, what the hell... I've got nothing better to do with my time, so I looked up the original:

"Isaiah 2  2-5:

It shall come to pass in the latter days
that the mountain of the house of the Lord
shall be established as the highest of the mountains,
and shall be lifted up above the hills;
and all the nations shall flow to it,
and many peoples shall come, and say:
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob,
that he may teach us his ways
and that we may walk in his paths.”
For out of Zion shall go the law, [1]
and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
He shall judge between the nations,
and shall decide disputes for many peoples;
and they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruning hooks;
nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war anymore.
O house of Jacob,
come, let us walk
in the light of the Lord."

Does this sword-beating sound to you like it will be the action of "Godless nations?"
Like Evangelical Christians everywhere, this person will instantly resort to blaspemous lies about his God, turning God's clear words on their head, rather than give up whatever he wants.

I have said it before: these people are not religious.  They are immoral vermin, driven by infantile needs which they have no interest in controlling, who will instantly pervert what they claim to be most dear to them, rather than turn their backs on their untrammeled  desires.  These are the people who were taught by Ronald Reagan that nothing counts but what they want.  They are unable to learn much, but this is one lesson they learned perfectly; and it is the main reason that Reagan is now burning in hell for it.

Cooking the Books

Here's a great object lesson in how our mainstream "press" rigs the electoral game in favor of Republicans, over and over again.  It's a story from Daily Kos about the lie-spouting bully who they helped elect governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie.  First, the facts, after the people of New Jersey have had a year to get to know him:

"38% of NJ adults approve of the job Christie is doing, 56% disapprove.
According to this latest Eyewitness News Poll conducted by SurveyUSA exclusively for WABC-TV in New York City, NJ voters by 5:1 say Christie should not run for President.
• By 2:1, NJ voters say Christie would be a worse president than Barack Obama.
• Obama carried NJ in 2008 by 15 points. Obama's approval rating in NJ today is Plus 14 (54% approve, 40% disapprove).
• Voters split evenly on whether Christie would be better president than George W. Bush."

Not so good.  But as Kos documents, Cristie is constantly referred to in the national press in terms like this:

"the confrontational approach has made Governor Christie of New Jersey a hot property,"

"Many are vying for an endorsement from the popular freshman governor, who quickly rose to the national spotlight"

Thus, Christie becomes the latest in a long string of worthless, ignorant, corrupt Republican governors that the press has tried to foist on us as presidential material in the last few dedades:  Bobby Jindal, Rick Perry, Haley Barbour, Sarah Palin, that asshole in Florida, that other asshole in South Carolina, and the ur-jerks  George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan.  And believe me, I don't think we have been all that lucky that so far only two of them have made it to the White House.

How many decades, and how many lies is it going to take before people give up the naive notion that the mainstream press in this country are just dupes of the Republican party, and realize that they are their collaborators?  Without a somewhat honest press, Democracy cannot survive.  I'm afraid that that is the whole idea.

American History Wingnut Style

Well, I'm informed that this is Confederate Memorial Day in North and South Carolina (I'm sure you're soooo excited,) and for this august occasion, I'd like to bring you the following essay in honor of the occasion by someone eminently qualified to give us the wingnut position on the Civil War, Mr. J. D. Longstreet, author of such enlightening epistles as   Global Warming? I Don't THINK So!  and NULLIFICATION TODAY...SECESSION TOMORROW? THE SECOND U.S. CIVIL WAR BREWING?

And here he is, in case you wondered what terminal deceit overdose does to the visage.

Well hop on and enjoy the ride:

"Let’s understand at the outset -- the US Constitution of 1861 did not forbid Secession from the Union.  That is a fact.  What the Confederate men did was perfectly legal."

God, I have to break in already.  Do you think it might be okay if I present a different take on that subject?  Maybe you've heard it already:

"Article III Section 3
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort."

Well, I guess it's just a matter of opinion.  Let's just chalk it up to "he said, the constitution said" and move on; there's so much more.

"Nobody, north or south, thought Lincoln would sacrifice the lives of over 600,000 men in a war against his own countrymen....what made Lincoln willing to do such a thing?"

Think you can guess?  Go ahead, give it a try.

"They tell us today that the war was fought over one issue.  Slavery.  That is a bald faced lie.  It is the Great Lie of American history."

Whoops, we were both wrong! I guessed slavery too.  Well, if it makes you feel any better, here's someone else who was just as wrong as us.  It's a guy named Alexander Stephens, the Vice President of the Confederacy, who had this to say in 1861:

"The new Constitution has put at rest forever all the agitating questions relating to our peculiar institutions—African slavery as it exists among us—the proper status of the negro in our form of civilization. This was the immediate cause of the late rupture and present revolution...The prevailing ideas entertained by most of the leading statesmen at the time of the formation of the old Constitution were, that the enslavement of the African was in violation of the laws of nature; that it was wrong in principle, socially, morally and politically. It was an evil they knew not well how to deal with; but the general opinion of the men of that day was, that, somehow or other, in the order of Providence, the institution would be evanescent and pass away... Those ideas, however, were fundamentally wrong. They rested upon the assumption of the equality of races. This was an error. It was a sandy foundation, and the idea of a Government built upon it—when the "storm came and the wind blew, it fell."

Our new Government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and moral condition."

Well, just a difference of opinion, I guess.  Now, back to J. D:

"There were many reasons Lincoln felt he could not allow the Confederate states to leave the Union .  But there was one reason, which dominated them all.  Simply put:  Lincoln could not allow the Southern States to leave the Union because the Southern States paid the bills of the United States of America !...when the federal government needed money -- it simply raised taxes on the Southern states!  Not the northern states… just the Southern states!  There was a constant out-flow of Southern money going into the north from which the South received nothing.  The South warned the government that at some point we would have to secede just to save our economy!"

Well, of course this is a preposterous lie. Until the Civil War over 90% of all Federal revenue came from import tariffs, which were in no way applied differentially to the South.  Let's just turn to an authority on that one too:

Article I, Section 9
"No Preference shall be given by any Regulation of Commerce or Revenue to the Ports of one State over those of another."

Oh dear, this is getting boring.  I  have not been able to find a lot of data on pre-Civil War Federal revenue, but what I have found in no way supports this claim.  If you want to learn a little more, you might try looking here.

Of course what this claim does accomplish is to give a historical precedent (phony, of course,) to our current pack of greed maddened right wing tax haters.

"Why in the world would an army of less than a million men -- poorly fed, poorly equipped, and half naked -- have the temerity to even THINK they could successfully go to war against an army over three times their size  -- and WIN? It is the indomitable, unconquerable, fighting spirit of the Southern People!"

Or maybe it's a mixture of hatred and stupidity.  I vote for the latter.

"Some say the southern fighting spirit accounts for the fact that every war America has been involved in… Southerners were in the middle of the fight doing their part.

Did you know that nearly half the men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan today come from the 11 southern states of the Old Confederacy? It is that indomitable, unconquerable, fighting spirit of the Southern People!"

"Half the men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan", huh?  And how many of them were black people, hoping to get away from jerks like you?

"When the Americans grew tied of the taxation of the British and the lack of representation in the British government for the colonists, it was the Southern American who led the charge for freedom from Great Britain ."

Really?  You mean like in Lexington and Concord?

"In the1860’s it was the grandsons of the Southern men who fought Great Britain who then stood ready to fight another brand new world superpower for THEIR freedom. Their motives were the same in 1861 as that of their grandfathers in 1776.  Southerners were not willing to live under a repressive government and pay more taxes than was their fair share."

Well, J. D, how do you feel about the fact that we Northerners and Westerners now pay hundreds of billions in tax revenue to support you idiots in the South?  That's okay, I guess, as long as it's you guys getting the free ride.

"Many of the slaves of the 1860’s felt the South was their homeland, too. They had been born in the south.  Not only that… but many of them felt a need to defend the South and DID take up arms and fight alongside their white masters in battle against the northern invaders.  Many black Southern slaves died in battle fighting the troops of the federal government of the United States .  But … only the South gives THOSE brave black men credit for their valiant action."

Bullshit, you disgusting racist.  That is one of the most malignant lies that I have ever heard- that black people would be stupid enough to fight a war to preserve their own brutalization.  And whether you know it or not, black people aren't as stupid as you are.

"The Confederate soldier never questioned the Southern conviction that the SOUTH WAS RIGHT, even after Appomattox."

Well there are obviously still people like you that don't question that the South was right.  I guess you think that's something to be proud of.  Of course, seeing as how you have to tell so many lies about it, maybe you aren't so proud of yourself.  That would be a nice thing.  Unfortunately, not very likely.

"At no place on earth have soldiers fought so bravely, and struggled more fiercely, to defend their homeland."

By fighting a war against it.

"The world has never known men who could, and would, fight as these men did.  Never before has there been an army, which could fight with the steel hardened determination of the Confederate soldier. Never! "

Oh yes there has been - the Waffen SS.

"The Confederate Soldiers forged a trail of heroic deeds amid selfless suffering no other fighting force has ever equaled on this continent -- or elsewhere."

Sure, sure. No one, ever!  Not the Spartans, not the 20 Million Soviets who died defeating Hitler, not the Japanese troops at Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima, who died almost to a man defending a lost cause, not the brave Mexicans who fought the vicious Spanish army over and over again to win their freedom.  No, you traitorous morons, fighting as you always do to preserve the privilege of the rich, are TEH GREATEST!

Grow up.

"When one seriously surveys the complete mess our beloved country is in today one has to ask … was the cause of the Confederate Soldier, indeed, lost, … or was it only delayed?"

No, it was lost.  That was 150 years ago, remember?   The only thing that's delayed is the day when people like you give up their hatred.

"I would expect the heavenly ramparts and the gates of pearl, are secured by Confederate troops under the eternal command of General Stonewall Jackson."

What, they have slavery up there too?

Well, there you go, history told through the wrong end of the telescope, by vicious haters and unapologetic liars; i.e. standard Republican ideology.  Now, go wash your brain out with some good strong soap.

Wingnut Wrapup

And a little more from the endless fount of wingnut stupidity:

Floyd and Mary Beth Brown, Town Hall:  "With Obama Vulnerable, Republicans Jockey in the Starting Gates"

When did you write this one, guys?  Three months ago?

Donald Lambro, Town Hall:  "Obama Must Meet GOP Deal, Or No Deal"

In the words of your great leader, "bring it on."  Shut the government down.  Cause a Federal debt default for the first time in two hundred and fifty years.  See where it gets you.

Red State:  "Rand Paul’s Right to Compare Universal Healthcare to “Slavery”'

"Right."  Very far right.

Erick Erickson, Red State:  "Why Yes, I Am Interviewing Donald Trump...He’s a blunt new voice that’s hitting our conservative establishment with the force of a wrecking ball."

Well, he was last week.

Larry Purdy, Pajamas Media:  "One Man-on-the-Street’s View of the Death of Osama Bin Laden...Is it so far off the mark to conclude that Obama, in approving this mission, was acting almost, if not entirely, in a purely political manner?"

One man on the street.  One man on the street who just happens to write for one of the most vicious, ignorant right wing websites in existence.  Well, that should be an unbiased view.  Larry continues with thie following well meant suggestion:

"And to the White House public relations folks, for this and all future administrations, I offer one small suggestion: When events of similar gravity occur down the road, please consider taking a photograph in the Situation Room where the commander-in-chief is shown observing them while standing on his feet."

Yes, he did get Bin Laden, which your guy failed to do in seven years, but he actually blew the whole thing by sitting down while he did it, so he deserves no credit at all.  As usual from the right- focusing like a laser beam on the important things.

Kim Zigfield, Pajamas Media:  "As Obama Stands Silent, Putin Crushes Freedom Online"

Yes, Obama got Bin Laden, but he let Putin bring down some guy's website!  See, Obama is worthless!

Roger Simon, Pajamas Media:  "Did Barack Obama want to assassinate Osama bin Laden? He may have at some point, because he gave the ultimate order, or allowed it to happen. But I suspect the president was deeply ambivalent."

Because believing a baseless lie is so much easier than admitting you were wrong.  That's what makes you a good right winger, Roger.

And, now here's a little fantasy conversation from one of the biggest right wing liars on earth:

Michael Ledeen, Pajamas Media:  "JJA:  “Just to be precise, we should not be so antiseptic in our language.  I’m saying that Osama was betrayed.  Somebody who knew the details — or maybe several somebodies — delivered him to us.

ML:  “And then there’s another question, a very big question:  what did we pay the traitor?”

ML:  “What more can we offer?”

JJA:  “An end to all the violence out of Afghanistan."

Aah yes, this is real thinking ahead.  Let's prepare the ground so that, when Obama accomplishes the long prayed-for goal of extricating us from the nightmare that Bush and Cheney created in Afghanistan, it is seen as a failure.

Kyle Ann Shriver, Pajamas Media:  "Why Not Herman Cain?"

Because he's an ignorant, greedy dick, and he is a black man that not even other black people will vote for?

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "US Intelligence Officials Interrogate Speak With Osama’s 3 Widows"

Because it's not interrogation if it doesn't include torture.

World Net Daily EXCLUSIVE:  "Oil companies don't get a dime!...Breaking News...Rep. Fleming debunks 'left-wing' myth of taxpayer subsidies"

More "breaking news" from some other, unnamed planet, brought to you by galactic authority World Net Daily!

In Case You Haven't Had Enough Bad News Lately

"Tokyo Electric Power Co. officials have confirmed that the situation in one of the four affected reactors is worse than previously claimed. The fuel rods that powered the No. 1 reactor at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant are fully exposed and have melted or fallen into the bottom of the steel containment vessel. That vessel is now believed to be far more damaged than previously admitted by TEPCO. In fact, it contains several holes through which water being poured onto the reactor is leaking into the environment."

Just the sort of thing that you want to hear, huh?  These reactors are going downhill faster than Donald Trump's approval rating.

Sorry, Wrong Again

This amusing comment, quoted at Americablog (I'd rather give them the hit than the major media figure who said this,) regarding Newt Gingrich's announcement that he is running as usual for president:

"11 Reasons Newt Gingrich Will be the 2012 GOP Nominee for President

1. Ideas and solutions: ... Policy is Newt's strength. He is well known for his constant generation of ideas and solutions. ..."

Policy is not Newt's strength.  Hos strengths would be adultery and world class hypocrisy.

There is one good reason why Newt might well be the 2012 GOP nominee for president:  There is no one on earth who will prostitute himself to anyone who will pay enough as Newt.  He's the king at that, for sure.

Wingnut Wrapup

So they've had two colossal, historical humiliations in the last week or so. Do you think it slowed them down?  NO! It sped them up!  Apparently, you can't keep a bad man down either.  So, hold on tight, here we go:

Astute Bloggers:  "AS THE OBAMA/OSAMA STORY CHANGES AGAIN, ONE THING HAS BECOME CRYSTAL CLEAR: WE NEED A CONGRESSIONAL INVESTIGATION"

Oh yes!  A congressional investigation of America's biggest anti-terrorist success in eight years.  That makes sense.  Nothing Obama deserves for catching Bin Laden like a sound Congressional humiliation.

Astute Bloggers:  "The agreement between Fatah and Hamas marks the end of the so-called "peace process" - AND I BLAME OBAMA!"

Of course you do.  Remember when one of you guys blamed Obama when his toilet stopped up?

Andrew G. Bostom, American Thinker:  "Did Naval Burial Ceremony for Bin Laden Curse Jews and Christians, and Confer Pardon and Paradise on the Muslim Mass Murderer?"

Well, Andy, I can't be 100% sure, but really, I don't think so.

Lawrence J. Siskind, American Thinker:  "After viewing the disastrously disappointing movie version of Atlas Shrugged, her magnum opus, Rand's fans, friends, and even casual acquaintances have a right to know how the guardian of this legacy could have allowed this to happen."

Don't ask us, Larry.  We're still trying to figure out who let Jar Jar Binks into Star Wars.

Larry Shenk, Ameerican Thinker:  "It's harder to get a job at Walmart than it is to be admitted to an Ivy League school."

You just keep believing that, Larry.  I guess that helps you "explain" how Barack Obama got into Harvard, when he is obviously not even qualified to work at Wal-Mart, what with him being a you-know-what and all.

Pam Geller, Atlas Shrugs:  "Was it "Tacky" to Celebrate When Hitler Was Killed?  Was it wrong to dance and celebrate when we killed Hitler?"

Pam, I don't know how to break this to you, but we didn't kill Hitler.  He killed himself rather than surrender to the people who really conquered Berlin:  those evil Commies.  It's a well known fact.  look it up.  You'll be so surprised.

Jeannie DeAngelis, Pajamas Media:  "Barack is the Lady Gaga of politics, all glitz and hype and totally overexposed."

Except, of course, Lady Gaga never caught a terrorist or stopped a depression.  Don't forget that, Jeannie.  In regard to things like that, your guy George was really more the gaga sort. Of course, he couldn't even sing.

David Solway, Pajamas Media:  "The myrmidons of the left who celebrated 9/11 as a justified requital against the United States for its perceived geopolitical sins have had to endure the humiliation of national jubilation."

Who (or what, for that matter) those myrmidons might be, Mr. Solway never says.  I don't remember any left wingers, "myrmidons" or non-myrmidons, celebrating 9-11.  I do, however, remember people at Pajamas Media jumping with joy at every problem the country has under Obama, and inventing plenty more when real ones don't show up fast enough.  So which side is really anti-American, huh, David?

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "The Definition of Incompetence… Team O Releases Version 29 on Osama Raid"

The definition of competence:  Bin Laden Dead; American casualties 0

The real definition of incompetence:  Seven years and two trillion dollars squandered, five thousand American dead, an innocent country devastated, Bin Laden nowhere in sight.

Deal with that, Jim, you ass.  And I'm not done with you today:

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "More Bad News For Libs… American Public Not Fooled By Media – Remember Obama’s Far Left Antiwar Past...In South Carolina this week a Frank Luntz focus group of conservatives were not fooled by Obama and the state-run media."

Oh, I see, Jim.  a "focus group" of admitted conservatives "polled" by notorious Republican liar Frank Luntz now represents the opinion of the country.  Man, are you getting hard up to find anyone on your side.

World Net Daily EXCLUSIVE!  "Nailing Bill Clinton is like trying to nail a f--t to the wall"

Yes! Breaking news!  A Republican Congressman said something disgusting about a Democrat twelve years ago!  No mention, of course, of the fact that it was so hard to "nail" Bill Clinton, because all of their charges against him were malignant lies.

Sound familiar to anything going on today?

World Net Daily EXCLUSIVE!  "Hawaii detective charges 'birth certificate' a fraud...Claims phonies created by state in order to 'screw with birthers'

WHY?  Why in God's name would they do that?  And does the State of Hawaii actually employ professional document forgers?  Somehow I doubt that.  Incidentally, other than a mention of some guy once winning a dozen golf balls, there is no evidence online that anyone named "Takeyuki Irei," the alleged detective, exists in Hawaii.  No evidence, of course, other than the quadrillion or so wingnut websites that have, by now, repeated World Net Daily's lie. Apparently, Takeyuki is a very private detective.

And now, today's award for Scandal Least Likely to Blossom:

Astute Bloggers:  "Pat Condell, Pakistan, Bin laden: "DID THE NAVY SEALS REMOVE THEIR SHOES BEFORE ENTERING THE BIN LADEN COMPUND!?"

No shoes, no legs, buster.  Get working on your next lie, and better luck next time.

And the Certificate in World Class Incoherence:

Astute Bloggers:  "WW4 IS REALLY A RETURN TO THE REAL WW1.  The current global war is very often referred to as WW4, (WW3 being the cold War).  But I now think that WW4 is really WW1...

What we now call WW1 was really WW2, and what we call WW2 was WW3 and what we call WW3 was WW4.  The Global War Against Islamism is WW1.  This time I hope we finish the job. That means doing to them what FDR and Truman did to the Nazis."

Huh?

Troglo Pundit, Right Wing News:  "So: if Obama made up the whole “we got bin Laden” story to boost his poll numbers – and I’m not saying he did, but if he did…"

Oh no, you're not saying that, but just think, suppose it were true...Honestly, I don't think the whole country of Iraq exists- no one I know has ever seen it.  I think Bush and Cheney just made it up in order to steal two trillion dollars from the American people. The so-called "Saddam Hussein" was really just Stacy Keach in a uniform.  Now, that's a lie.  Yours is just pathetic compared to mine.  So there.

And now a food safety warning I think we can safely afford to ignore:

News Cottage 3:  "Jew Merchants Make Big Bucks Feeding You Unclean, Filthy Oysters "

Filthy oysters- the next national crisis.  And you thought the real estate crash was bad.

And to finish things off today, this shocking statistic:

Kerem Oner, American Thinker:  "55% of Americans Prove Failure of Education...55% of Americans blame former President Bush and the Republicans for the mess we are in! "

Disgusting.  In a really eductated country, that would be about 99%.

I Don't Think So

From the AP:

"Colin Powell told graduates of South Carolina's premier historically black university that they were graduating during a tumultuous time that saw a royal wedding, a pope's beatification and a U.S. military assault that killed Osama bin Laden, "the worst person on earth."

I don't think so:

I rest my case.

The Death of Osama: Turning Victory into Disaster

As promised, here is a sample of the predictable right wing reaction to Obama's having accomplished, with the death of Osama bin Laden, what would have been hailed by Repubicans everywhere as an epochal accomplishment if it had been produced by Bush and Cheney.

I had intended this to be a sort of grand Wingnut Wrapup, but there seemed to be too much of a thread running through these comments to let them pass simply as an opportunity for some well-deserved ridicule.  Before continuing, let me remind you of some of the historical facts surrounding the World Trade Center bombing and the hunt for Osama Bin Laden.

Bill Clinton and his security advisors were extremely concerned with the threat posed by Bin Laden and his accompices.  He made, in fact, several attempts to eliminate Al Qaida.  This all took place against the background of the malicious Republican impeachment attempt, and every time he launched a strike against Osama, Republicans went public with savage attacks claiming that Osama was not a threat, and Clinton was only using the military against him to divert attention from Monica Lewinsky.

After the 2000 election, Clinton's advisors begged Bush and Cheney to take the threat of Al Qaida seriously; they were rejected out of hand, at one point being told by Bush "You've covered your ass, now go away."  Within a year of 9-11, Bush was stating in public that he didn't really care about Bin Laden; eventually he disbanded the CIA team charged with finding him; and instead (as we all know) squandered the license he had been given to take action in the middle east, with his spectacular military blunder in Iraq, where he instituted a policy of torture, not to find Bin Laden, but to force his victims to produce false incriminating testimony linking Saddam Hussein to Al Qaida.  In fact, Bush ignored clear opportunities to get Osama, allowing him to slip away into Pakistan, where he lived happily ever since.  Only after the election of Obama was the hunt for Osama renewed, with the results we have seen this week.

This whole affair is a tale of the most sordid, inexcusable conduct by the Bush Administration, which in fact abandoned its responsibility to protect this country, in order to carry out a war of aggression against an innocent country, in which massive damage was done without a shred of excuse.

Enough of history.  I needed to repeat this in order to make a point which I have made before, but not for some time:  Right wing attacks on Obama seem irrational to the point of madness when viewed as  intended to convince people that, for example, Obama can't speak without a teleprompter, or that he is an unintelligent dolt who only ended up at Harvard as some sort of unfair favoritism.  They all make sense, however, when you understand the truth:  they are not directed at Obama at all, but are an attempt to argue away the colossal, world class failures and inadequacies of Bush and Cheney, committed in full public view as they strutted around like cowboys and the right cheered them on.

Well, here goes, arranged by lie:

1. All of the credit goes to Bush, particularly his policy of torture.  We know already that the torture instituted by the Bush administration produced no actionable intelligence whatsoever, but it is a huge moral stain on everyone who supported it, so Republican apologists are working one more time to spread the lie that it produced something of value.  Maybe people's memories have grown dim enough that they can get some people to buy into it:

Kevin McCullogh, Town Hall:  "Without "enhanced interrogation techniques and the fight against terror in Iraq" President Obama would not have been able to order the kill command against Osama bin Ladin."

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Rep. Peter King Doubles Down: Waterboarding Got Us to Osama"

No comment needed.

Astute Bloggers:  "AL QAEDA IN PAKISTAN: OBAMA ACTED UNILATERALLY WHEREAS BUSH ACTED WITH PAKISTAN"  How's that "smart diplomacy" working out for you?"

Of course, this remark is intended to deny the tragic, malicious unilateral behavior of the Bush administration, by making the preposterous claim that it was Obama, who has worked for two years to undo the residue of hatred left behind by Bush and Cheney's self-serving behavior, who is really ignoring the opinion of the rest of the world.  Maybe somewhere there is someone still stupid and ignorant enough to believe that.

Adam Yoshida, Pajamas Media:   the strategic vision that brought this glorious moment into being was that of George W. Bush...I have increasingly grown to appreciate the vision and adult leadership that President Bush provided."

Vision and adult leadership...

Michelle Malkin, Town Hall:  "Imagine the Nobel Peace Prize winner, in front of the entire world that reviled George W. Bush for his post-9/11 response, acknowledging his predecessor's love of country."

Imagine vomiting in your breakfast.

2.  Obama is actually a war criminal for having killed Bin Laden (while it was just fine for Bush and Cheney to kill a million innocent civilians in an unjustified war:)

"Judge" Andrew Napolitano, Fox Business News:  "“The same President who ordered the killing of bin Laden also wants to borrow trillions of your dollars that your children and grandchildren will need to repay so as to finance his welfare and warfare state...“Beyond the issue of whether the government is telling us the truth or pulling a fast one to save Obama’s lousy Presidency – is the issue of the lawful power of the President to order someone killed, no matter how monstrous, how dangerous or how unpopular."

Andy, after eight years of Bush, that is just pathetic.

Jack Kerwick, Pajamas Media:  "If Democrats weren't just playing politics with Bush's prosecution of "the War on Terror," then rather than sing hosannas to President Obama, they would now be talking about bringing him up on criminal charges"

Obama is a criminal for killing our greatest single enemy without a trial; Bush is a hero for starting a war of aggression, for murder of countless civilians, for torture.

3. Don't be fooled by Obama accomplishing what Bush could only dream of- Obama is actually a gigantic failure because he waited to pull the trigger, and so mismanaged the publicity after the raid, which was apparently far more important than the fact of Osama's elimination:

Laurie B. Regan, American Thinker:  "How Obama Bungled the Aftermath of the OBL Mission...This is a complete and total fiasco -- an embarrassment of massive proportions... As more information becomes available, such as the fact that Obama took 16 hours to make his final decision because he had to "sleep on it," he continues to look like the incompetent leader that he is "

Incompetent, of course, in everything except accomplishing the overwhelming national security objective of the last ten years:  removing Osama Bin Laden.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "Good Grief. Obama Took 16 HOURS to Make Up His Mind to Get Osama Bin Laden"

Rather than acting with no thought at all, and then failing colossally, like a previous president I could mention.  But Bush looked great in a flight suit, while he was failing to win his war.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:  "President Obama Knew OBL’s Location Since August… Voted Present Until May"

And then killed him without a loss of a single American life. so, what's your point, Jim?  It's best not to think about things first?

Matthew Vadum, NewsReal Blog:  "By the time you read this blog post, it will be hopelessly out of date. That’s how fast the story of the Obama administration’s appallingly incompetent handling of the aftermath of the Osama bin Laden assassination is moving.  In all my years observing American politics I’ve never seen anything even remotely like this. It’s not just a train wreck viewed in slow motion, it’s a midair collision of all the airplanes used in “The Aviator.”

Except, of course (forgive my redundant comments) that he did, after all, eliminate Bin Laden which, to this politically naive observer, somehow seems slightly more important than the fact that he may have not released quite the right account of the action.  But I guess that shows how clueless I am about what really counts.

Dan Dehner, American Thinker:  "Obama insults Muslims by hiding OBL photos...This is a gross departure from our ideals.  Americans believe in the power of reason and rely on the concept of moral agency to govern freedom of choice and action.  We believe that citizens should be provided with the words and pictures that are important to the understanding of our world."

Remember the last time a Republican was worried about insulting Muslims?  No, I don't either.

Astute Bloggers:  "The Obama Administration did NOT practice how to handle the aftermath at all: not how to collate the info; or get and put out ONE TRUE STORY, decide how to dispose of/bury the body, (and maybe save some for further testing); and so on.
They suck.
It's an embarrassment."

As embarrassing as spending 7 years not getting Osama?  Funny, to Republicans, that just isn't important any more, compared to how he releases some photos.

4. Obama is using this as an opportunity to go on a rampage of belligerent egomaniacal posturing.  This is vitally important, above all, because of the following:
Sorry, Republicans, you are never, ever going to live this down, no matter how many lies like the following you tell:

Streiff, Red State:  "The most unseemly thing about the entire killing of bin Laden is the pathetic scrabbling about for credit that we’re seeing on behalf of both Obama and his staff."

Stephen Hunter, Power Line:  "Any joy one might feel in the intelligence of our analysts and the bravery of our door kickers was significantly diminished by Obama's malignant narcissism. "

Once again, true about the flight suit guy, not true about Obama.

5. And of course, despite Bush's failure and Obama's success, it is really Bush who was strong on terrorism and Obama and the liberals who are weak:

Condoleeza Rice:  "President Bush had at Ground Zero probably the most important moment maybe in American history. It was when this wounded nation watched their commander-in-chief stand on that rubble and say that they will hear us, we are going to avenge this."

The idiocy.  "The most important moment maybe in American history."  More important than the ratification of the constitution?  More important than the banning of slavery?  More important than defeating the Nazis?  This is truly a sickness, which originates in their full knowledge of the disgrace Bush and Cheney piled up in their eight years in charge.

Brent Bozell, Fox News:  "my God, where were they when George Bush won us the war in Iraq? "

Where was I when that happened?  I missed it entirely.

Pam Geller, Atlas Shrugs:  "A reluctant American president who was ultimately overridden by senior military and intelligence officials to finally take out terrorist Osama Bin Laden… The killing of Osama Bin Laden was in fact a Coup within Obama WH."

Easier to believe that we have just experienced a military coup than to swallow a Democrat's success in protecting the country.

Dan McLaughlin, Red State:  "(We) must pity the dilemma of the anti-war Left in facing the enormously popular and inarguably successful takedown of bin Laden...the anti-war Left spent most of the Bush years shrieking to high heaven about Bush shredding the Constitution, staining the integrity of the nation, yadda yadda yadda.  This is the politics of outrage, the idea that you win arguments by being the angriest man in the room, that rather than argue that policies are not worth the costs"

No, Dan, it's the politics of respect for human decency.

Melissa Clouthier, Red State:  "Osama Bin Laden’s Death: Proving Liberals Really Don’t Mean Their Rhetoric...Osama Bin Laden died and no liberals cried…for him."

Me;lissa, all it proves is that Liberals don't mean your rhetoric about them.  For an example of this rhetoric, Melissa continues:

"Liberals are traditionally and correctly viewed as weak on national security issues."

Other than presiding over the victories in World Wars I and II, and now accomplishing what the great, manly heroes Bush and Cheney couldn't, I guess I can see your point.

Michael Ledeen, Pajamas Media:  "What if the Killing of Bin Laden Is the Beginning of The Great American Retreat?"

Oh yeah, consider this possibility- Obama's victory over terrorism is only a cover for capitulation, somehow.  That's really plausible.

Well, there you go.  Think this is a lot?  I could have given you five times as much along these lines.  Let me sum up:  These people know what a colossal, complete failure the Bush administration was, and they also know that they supported it every second of its existence.  They are trying to wipe away the stain with a blizzard of lies the likes of which we have never seen.  Right now, it doesn't seem to be working, but they will never stop spreading their deceit, because their rich backers will never stop paying them to spread their malicious garbage.  Too bad, really.  We used to have a nice country.
