Wingnut Wrapup

The last load of garbage for the year. Yes, Green Eagle never sleeps (more than 14 or 15 hours a day, on average) when it comes to rooting out right wing lunacy:

Ted Nugent: "I think that Barack Hussein Obama should be put in jail. It is clear that Barack Hussein Obama is a communist. Mao Tse Tung lives and his name is Barack Hussein Obama. This country should be ashamed. I wanna throw up."

Ted, Green Eagle wants to throw up, too. Not for the same reason, no.

Hogan, Red State: "40 Republicans May Be a Temporary Blessing"

Right on there, Hogan. 30 or 35 would be even better. And dare we hope for the ultimate blessing? That would be zero Republicans.

Confederate Yankee: "Our President risked his own safety, the safety of his family, his friends and the lives of the Secret Service staff for an impromptu dash across the island so that a friend could attend to a very minor injury.

I wonder if local police officers placed their lives on the line to race out in front and provide security.

Nobody elected Erik Whitaker, or his son. Barack Obama put God-knows how many lives at risk and abused his office to spare his friend a few minutes of travel time and uncertainly... all for a trifling boo-boo."

I wonder how many secret service officers risked contracting rabies, pulling the pretzel out of Bush's throat.

The Reverend Grant Swank, Renew America: "Remember: Muslims lie for the Koran's Allah. They deceive for the same. They dish out opportunistic promises. Obama is following his Islamic catechism lessons to a T.

Obama, a Koran devotee, will continue to manage Islam World Rule in every mode possible as the grassroots wonders how to rid the nation of its Chief Enemy."

Reverend, ever read the ten commandments? I'm particularly wondering if you remember the one about bearing false witness. "Muslims lie for the Koran's Allah," huh? I guess Muslims aren't the only ones who were given permission by God to lie.

World Net Daily: "Tea-party leaders are delivering a bold ultimatum to all congressional candidates in 2010: Pledge to repeal the health-care reform bill in its entirety if it passes – or you will be booted from office."

After the politicians that suckered the teabaggers take two thirds of their money. Then, they'll worry about what the teabaggers think they want. Maybe.

Jim Geraghty, National Review Online: "What Time calls “The Decade from Hell” began with an evil act of mass murder, but it followed with a pushback from the forces of civilization and justice."

No, it followed with seven more years of blustering incompetence from the worst president ever. That's what made it the decade from hell, Jim. I know you want to forget that, but not this time, buddy.

Daniel Henninger, Wall Street Journal: "Forget greed. That was just an artifact, a side show. More than anything, the 1980s freed Americans to do the one thing they love to do above all else: create."

Create a depression.

Larry Elder, Town Hall: "Unrest in Iran: The Vindication of George W. Bush"

I see, Larry. He turned half of Iraq over to Shiite clerics allied with the Iranian Mullahs. That really hurt the Iranians, didn't it? That sure vindicated his belligerent stupidity for all to see. right? I mean, he made those mullahs quake in their boots when they saw him fail in a country one third the size of Iran, with no viable army. When he devastated any Iraqi Sunni opposition to the Iranians. That sure taught those mullahs a lesson, yes sir.

Tom Blumer, Pajamas Media: "Economic Rebound? What Economic Rebound?"

Oh, I don't know, maybe the one that has seen new unemployment claims at the lowest level in eighteen months, a massive stock market rally, signs of increased industrial output and a stabilization of home prices in many parts of the country. Maybe that's the economic rebound we are talking about. What do you think, Tom? Could that be the answer to your question?

Pam Meister, Pajamas Media: "Obama's Shameful Handling of National Security Issues- A cool and aloof president isn’t what we need right now."

Oh no, Pam. What we need now is another blustering liar in a fighter pilot costume. Because it worked so well the last time.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit: "Full-Body Scanners Won’t Protect Passengers from Ass Bombs"

Thanks for that contribution to our terrorism discussion, Jim. Next time, maybe you could provide us with some detailed technical analysis about dick bombs. Or maybe next time you could just shut up. How about it, Jim? Give us a break for once.

Erik Rush, World Net Daily: "Whether the individual far-left zealot in America is stupid, deluded or evil, the end game shall play out in the same manner: It will result in a society in which an unproductive, mediocre, larcenous few squeeze everyone else for their profit and pleasure."

You mean Wall Street? We already tried that under you guys. It didn't work. You'd like to forget that, wouldn't you, Erik.

Andrew Thomas, American Thinker: "Do we need an American Putin?"

Andrew seems to think that might be a pretty good idea. Andrew, Have you forgotten this column from your own website just a couple of days ago?

James Lewis, American Thinker: "Is Stalinism Back?"

Really, who the hell needs Putin when we already have Stalin?

Astute Bloggers: "OBAMA SO FAR: NOT EVEN ONE YEAR IN, AND ALREADY TWO SUCCESSFUL ENEMY ATTACKS IN THE HOMELAND"

Obama: one year in, two attacks, civilian deaths 0.
Bush and Cheney: one year in, two attacks*, civilian deaths 3,000

Just saying.

By the way, I didn't notice that the underpants bomber was that successful. Unless you count burning the hell out of your privates to be a tremendous victory for Al Qaida. Maybe our wingnut bloggers could strike back by giving themselves some severe Cheeto burns.

Enough for one year already. Happy New Year.

* Remember the Anthrax attacks?

An Update

Because I, like so many people, repeated the Associated Press story about the two former Guantanamo inmates who were allegedly involved in helping the underpants bomber, I want to report that this story has now come under serious suspicion, like so much crap that has come from the AP in the last few years. When I think I can sort out the truth, I will let you know what I have learned.

Modestly Good Unemployment News

Reported by Yahoo:

"The number of new claims for jobless benefits dropped last week to 432,000, the Labor Department said Thursday, down sharply from its late March peak of 674,000. The decline signals that the economy could begin adding a small number of jobs in January, several economists said."

Two things I would like to note: First, this is the lowest number since July, 2008. Next time someone tries to tell you that unemployment is Obama's doing, remind them who was president in July, 2008.

Second, March of this year is about a month and a half after Obama took office, and happens to coincide with the time that the gigantic Bush stock market collapse began to turn around. It took Republicans eight years of corruption and willful mismanagement to create this problem. Democrats are not going to repair the damage in a few months, but let us never forget- it only took them a month and a half to start the healing, and, bit by painful bit, things have started to get better since then.

Sad News for Conservatives

From TPM:

"TheConservatives.com, the Washington Times Web project that was billed as an ambitious "multiplatform" venture to allow "the Joe the Plumbers of the world to speak up to major thinkers, like Newt Gingrich," has gone silent.

Brian Faughnan, editor of the site, tells us the Times has officially canceled the project.

When the site launched in the fall, then-Times editor John Solomon told the Washington Independent he envisioned TheConservatives.com's role as an aggregator of the best content of conservative blogs..."

Well, don't worry, guys. You still have Wingnut Wrapup.

A Double Dip from the Washington Post

Here are a couple of fine examples of the way to behave if you want your newspaper to go from being one of the nation's finest news sources, to nothing but a sick joke:

Jo-Ann Armao, Washington Post: "By staying in Hawaii, the president has sent the message that the situation really isn’t all that serious, that things can proceed just fine until he’s back. And isn’t it that kind of reasoning that emboldens our never-vacationing enemies into thinking Christmas Day is the perfect time for them to strike?"

Did you, or any of your fellows there at the WaPo, have anything remotely similar to say, Jo-Ann, when our last president spent a third of his term on vacation while the nation collapsed around him? No? Well then, maybe you should just shut up when Barack Obama takes Christmas off.

But wait, there's more:

Washington Post: "Republicans are jumping on President Obama's response to the attempted Christmas Day bombing of a U.S. airliner as the latest evidence that Democrats do not aggressively fight terrorism to protect the country, returning to a campaign theme that the GOP has employed successfully over the past decade."

"But if the public remains concerned about the safety of air travel and about international terrorism, the Republican attacks on Obama could be "very influential," said Andrew Kohut, a veteran pollster and president of the nonpartisan Pew Research Center.

"I don't know if it has legs, but it certainly has potential if it has legs," Kohut said."

The attack could be "very influential." It has potential if it has legs. I see.

What the hell does that even mean? So, you have, once again, ginned up an excuse to present Republican attacks on Obama as fact, based on two utterly meaningless statements which themselves were based on no apparent evidence whatsoever.

What a way to contribute to our nation's discourse.

And no, I am not going to link to this trash. You know where you can find it if you need to waste your time.

Dick, and I mean Dick

That utter failure, Dick Cheney is at it again, shooting his lying mouth off as usual. From Politico:

"Former Vice President Dick Cheney accused President Barack Obama on Tuesday of “trying to pretend we are not at war” with terrorists, pointing to the White House response to the attempted sky bombing as reflecting a pattern that includes banishing the term “war on terror” and attempting to close the Guantanamo Bay detention center.

“[W]e are at war and when President Obama pretends we aren’t, it makes us less safe,” Cheney said in a statement to POLITICO. “Why doesn’t he want to admit we’re at war?"

Let's take a stroll down memory lane: George W. Bush did not interrupt his month long vacation when he got a memo entitled "Bin Laden Determined to strike in U.S." and he waited six days to make a single comment about the "shoe bomber." I guess, to Dick, underwear is a lot more scary than shoes.

And by the way, Dick, if we are still at war seven years after 9/11, guess whose fault that is? Guess who had longer than we were in World War II to do the job, and screwed it up completely? Guess who (as usual for Republicans) left their mess for Democrats to clean up, and is now telling every lie he can think of to convince people that it's all the Democrats' fault?

Can't come up with an answer, Dick? It's you, baby. Suck on that one.

The Least of These

I would like to amplify a comment I made on a post below, which was based on the following*:

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Okay, you "Christian" guys that opposed giving health care to poor people, and who said "let the Guantanamo prisoners rot- who cares if they are guilty?" and who hated foreigners and people of other religions, get ready! You're going straight to hell!

* From the King James version- substitute your own if you like, as long as it's not the new Conservative bible- a.k.a. the lieble.

The Queen Speaks

It just wouldn't be right to end the year without one more visit with the Queen of Birthers, and America's most Prominent Ex-Russian Loon, Orly Taitz. Gearing up for next year, she has this to say:

"What is the real intention of this Kenyan, Indonesian communist usurper? Is it to provide security for us or to destroy our security? Judge for yourself.

Seeing targeted destruction of our economy, our security, dissipation of American jobs, massive corruption in the Government, Congress Department of Justice and Judiciary, it might be time to start rallies and protests using our second amendment right to bear arms and organise in militias."

Well, whatever 2010 brings, at least we will still have Orly to kick around. Until she is disbarred and sent to jail, something which moves closer every time she opens her mouth.

Wingnut Wrapup

A big load of garbage today, the results of several days' right wing maundering, so let's dive right in:

First, let's start out with a special certificate for projection:

Dick Morris, Town Hall: "Griffith's Party Switch Illustrates The Death Of Moderate Democrats...Griffith's decision to step out of line and refuse to drink the Democratic Kool-Aid illustrates the Achilles' Heel of the Democratic regime in Washington."

Death of moderate Democrats. You've got to laugh- when you get done gagging.

And now the extremely small statue of Ronald Reagan, for the delusion of the day:

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit: "The Drudge Report may have a right-wing reputation, but it leans left."

Uh huh, Jim. Leans left, compared to whom? Joseph Goebbels? Dick Cheney?

Moe Lane, Red State: "It may seem a Scrooge-like message for this time of year to point out that you cannot spend money that you don’t have"

Unless you're a Republican, I guess. Moe, just do a google search for "George Bush Iraq" and you will see what I mean.

Pammy Geller: "The Democrats are beneath contempt. Nationalizing medicine, destroying this country - they are drunk, literally and figuratively.) If only we could ship the whole commie lot to a communist country, where they belong, and leave the only capitalist, free society alone. "

But wait- there's more!

Pammy: "The whole country should be screaming because we are being deceived. War has been declared on us by a mortal enemy and the political elites are lying to us about its nature, its goals, it objectives. We are doomed to failure. We are told this relentless blood thirsty enemy is a religion of peace."

I guess that earns Pammy the hater of the day trophy. She gets that one almost every day, so it's no big deal. Pam, could you send someone over to pick up your awards? They are filling up our whole closet. Thanks.

Here's a winner in the category of "Let's accuse Obama of everything Bush did, so we can pretend we didn't spend the last eight years supporting the worst president in history:"

Chris Adamo, Renew America: "It is unclear whether Obama and Clinton's ultimate purpose, through such despicable actions, is to buy the loyalty of foreign regimes, or to deplete America's financial resources and thus reduce this country down to a size deemed appropriate by America's leftists.

Admittedly, both Obama and Clinton are sufficiently dim-witted and malignant to attempt either.
Sadly, they have achieved their present status often through fraudulent, illegal, and on occasion, even violent means. The enormity of evidence of such activity, both during the 2008 election cycle and since their advent as the governing power, cannot be indefinitely ignored."

Boy, is that a good description of Bush and Cheney, or what? Too bad they got the names mixed up. Apparently, they can't remember who was president last year. Don't worry, Chris. We remember. All too well.

Phill Kline: "Avatar the movie: the religion of the left"

Phill, it's a movie. We communists are godless, remember? We don't have a religion.

Pat Boone: " King Herod ordered that all Jews had to return to the places where they had been born, a great and expensive inconvenience. It was so Herod could have an accurate census by which he could further levy taxes and control almost everything his subjects did.

Any of that seem at all familiar in our country today?"

No.

World Net Daily Poll: "... among Republicans, 73 percent confirmed "a decrease in freedoms under Obama, up from 61 percent just one month ago....About one in six said they were not very free or not at all free to even put a bumper sticker expressing their political or religious beliefs on their vehicles. One in five expressed the same reservations about discussing their beliefs if the conversation was in a public area. And more than one in four said they were not very or not at all free to express their opinions without fear of government penalty."

Just thought I'd let you know. I wish they'd been more specific about what the government penalty for expressing your opinion is. That would have been nice to know.

World Net Daily: "Where did Obama learn to destroy America?"

Probably from Bush.

Stuart Schwartz, American Thinker: "Seniors Are America's New Jews"

Boy, that's going to put strains on the gefilte fish supply.

J. Robert Smith, American Thinker: "Insist that GOP Make Repeal of Government-Run Health Care a 2010 Issue"

Do that, guy. After all, you have been trying to destroy Social Security, the minimum wage, the 40 hour work week, medicare, civil rights, banking regulations and unions for seventy years. And look where that got you. Oblivion everywhere but among Southern white crackers.

Here's the "Lie So Stupid No One Will Believe It" award:

Mary Matalin: "I was there, we inherited a recession from President Clinton and we inherited the most tragic attack on our own soil in our nation’s history. And President Bush dealt with it"

Bush inherited 9/11 from Clinton. Uh huh. And then he dealt with it. By invading the wrong country.

Michael Gaynor, Renew America: "Of course Obamacare is ACORNcare"

Of course, Michael. On the other hand, Republicancare is NoCare. Take your choice.

Alan Caruba, Renew America: "If you felt a frisson of fear on news that the Senate had passed Obamacare the day before Christmas, then you now know what it was and is like to live in a dictatorship."

You do? Boy, I guess those dictatorships weren't so bad. Of course, being a right winger, you probably really do feel that way. Maybe that's your point- making people think that having a dictator is no worse than having health care. I bet you could convince the teabaggers of that.

Sher Zieve, Renew America: "Now beginning the Era of Captivity, the American people have entered a new stage in their once extremely productive lives. This new phase has been purposefully designed to be unproductive and will be called 'existence.' Existence, however, will soon degrade and devolve — with no one stopping the perpetrators of this abhorrence — into subsistence. After that chapter has been written and read, life will have become so essentially bitter and untenable that additional deteriorations in life-conditions will carry no significant meaning — other than base survival....The facts are there for all to see. Are you preparing for your own eradication under the hammer and sickle of the tyrant?"

The new stage will be called "existence." Who decided that? The death panels? Anyway, are you preparing for your own eradication? It never hurts to be prepared.

Charles Krauthammer, National Review Online: "On Tuesday, Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did not just reject President Obama’s latest feckless floating nuclear deadline. He spat on it."

Big deal, Charles. You spit on the truth every day, and where did it get you?

Erick Erickson, Red State: "We have, in the past day, gotten a report from a regular user that one of the advertisements at RedState is spitting out malicious code."

Malicious. Fits right in on Red State, Erick. I guess they just wanted to get in on the party.

Art Rehabilitation

Almost unbelievable, but here it is- this quote from Air America, but the story is on a number of websites. I wonder if the mainstream press will be interested in it:

"Brian Ross of ABC News reports that two of the four men behind the plot to blow up a U.S. airliner on Christmas Day were actually prisoners of the United States and that, under the leadership of President George W. Bush, were released into a Saudi art rehabilitation program."

An art rehabilitation program. That, I guess, is an example of the harsh treatment that Republicans believe in for terrorists, as opposed to Obama's weak-kneed, cowardly approach of putting them in maximum security prisons.

As always, and I want to repeat that, As ALWAYS, Republican pretense of giving a damn about the country or being equipped to deal with our defense is a despicable lie. There's really not much more to say- anyone who trusts Republicans in any way is either a corporate CEO, and in on the joke, or they are a world class sucker.

Update: Can there be any more spectacular example of right wing dishonesty that Pam Geller's response to this news? She starts out her comment with the following remark:

"...releasing enemy combatants is a mentally deranged leftist policy. Jihadis are not "rehabilitable" unless they ..........convert out of Islam. Do I think Obomba will be moved to stop this suicidal insanity? No, I do not."

An excuse to smear Obama for something that occurred long before he became president; however I hardly need to tell you that, in her long diatribe, she never bothered to mention the names of the actual president and vice president who were in charge at the time. I guess that's because, as usual, Republican aren't responsible for anything that goes wrong.

Teabaggers Suckered

Can this possibly be much of a surprise? From TPM:

"The political action committee behind the Tea Party Express (TPE) -- which already has been slammed as inauthentic and corporate-controlled....directed almost two thirds of its spending during a recent reporting period back to the Republican consulting firm that created the PAC in the first place."

Well there you go. The teabaggers- suckers for the rich and powerful, from beginning to end. It's not enough that they are serving the purpose of their corporate masters every time they get out and march around calling themselves patriots. They couldn't even donate money for their beloved tea parties without being robbed blind. Well, what do you expect?

The Underpants Bomber- Let the Blame Begin

A couple of days ago, I promised to report back to you about the inevitable plague of right wingers screaming about how Obama was responsible for the recent underpants bomber. Well, here's a sample. There was too much to include it all, so I left out the most boring ones. Before beginning, I want to point out that TSA appropriations, including money for a new generation of bomb scanning equipment, failed in Congress last June, due to Republican opposition.

Rep. Pete Hoekstra: "It's not surprising," U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, a Holland Republican, said of the alleged terrorist attempt to blow up a Northwest Airlines flight in Detroit. ... "People have got to start connecting the dots here and maybe this is the thing that will connect the dots for the Obama administration," Hoekstra said."

Maybe it will connect the dots for your fellow Republicans, Pete. I doubt it, but maybe.

American Thinker: "The passengers of Northwest/Delta Airlines Flight 253 are lucky they are still alive. They should be the last passengers in the U.S. exposed to this kind of risk because of political correctness....It is time to hold politicians who refuse to protect their fellow citizens from jihadi terror accountable. Or would the majority of Americans rather be dead than viewed as politically incorrect?"

So it was political correctness that defeated the bomb scanning equipment? Somehow, I don't think so. I think it was a pack of lying Republican pigs.

Astute Bloggers: "THE PASSENGERS WERE LET DOWN BY THE TSA, AND OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT AND INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITIES - WHO EACH FAILED TO ACT EFFECTIVELY AGAINST A KNOWN THREAT.
THAT'S WHY THE PASSENGERS WERE PUT INTO A SITUATION IN WHICH THEY HAD TO TAKE ACTION THEMSELVES - AND THEY DID, COURAGEOUSLY.
WELL, WE CAN NO MORE DEPEND ON THE CURRENT CONGRESS - OR THE CURRENT POTUS THAN THESE PASSENGERS - AND EVERY OTHER ONE FLYING SOMEWHERE ON OTHER FLIGHTS - CAN DEPEND ON THE TSA.

Maybe we could depend on the TSA if they had the right equipment, and if they hadn't been set up by the Bush administration, which couldn't do anything right (except steal from the American people) to save its life.

Astute Bloggers: "OBAMA DROPPED THE BALL: NYTIMES: BOMBER'S FATHER TOLD USA ABOUT SON SEVERAL WEEKS AGO"

And of course, the guy's father personally called Obama, right? That's why Obama's the one who dropped the ball.

Sen. Jim DeMint on Fox News: "We have to outthink the terrorists and when we formed the airport security system, we realized we could not use collective bargaining and unionization because of that need to be flexible. Yet, that appears to be the top priority now of the administration..."

Oh, now I understand. How could I have not realized this before? The answer to terrorism is to do away with unions! How simple it is when you really think about it. And here I was ready to blame it all on ACORN.

And more Pete Hoekstra, who seems to be taking the lead on this smear, again on (where else) Fox News:

Chris Wallace: "You were quoted in the Detroit Free Press this morning as saying that, you know, the key is to connect the dots and maybe the Obama administration will now realize that. Is it really fair to hold the Obama administration responsible here?"

"Yeah, I think it really is," replied Hoekstra. "Connecting the dots here is not really on this particular case. It's connecting the dots that we've seen over the last 11 months, over the last eight years."

Eight years. All Obama's fault of course, because as we well know, it is treason to suggest that a Republican administration might have had anything to do with it. Grow up already, Pete.

Rep. Pete King is getting in on the act, too: "Petey said that the ObamAdministration banned the word "terrorism", which is, of course, why Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab managed to smuggle explosives on board a jetliner."

Uh huh. If only they had not banned the word "terrorism," our problems would be solved. Of course (you couldn't have guessed this, I bet) Obama, not being the sort of idiot that Bush was, did not do anything so stupid as banning a word. But still, the principal holds. What principal? Who knows?

Pam Geller: "We have had more Muslim plots against the United States the past 4 months than the last four years of the Bush adminstration. Ass clowns are watching our back."

1. The Muslim plot thing: not true, although I hardly need say this, given the source.
2. Pammy, where were you when the real assclowns created this problem?

Confederate Yankee: "Perhaps if they spent more time attempting to hunt down terrorists, and less time trying to smear Americans that don't like Barack Obama, terrorists like Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab wouldn't be able to make it onto US-bound flights in the first place.

Not even worth a comment, Yankee dude. He continues:

Jonah Goldberg wants Napolitano fired, but I'm not sure what purpose that would serve. Looking at this Administration's raft of failed and marginally competent appointees, do you really expect that any replacement nominee would be any less ideologically-drive or more effective?"

Failed and marginally competent. I guess you would be talking about people like Donald Rumsfeld, Alberto Gonzales, "Brownie" et. al....No, wait....something wrong there.... How dare I commit treason by attacking those guys...yeah, they were great...only Democrats could make bad appointments, or people selected by ideology. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

AWR Hawkins, Pajamas Media: "Moreover, when trials began for these “suspected terrorists” they will not be held in military courts but in a federal courtroom in New York City.

You remember what happened in New York City, don’t you? That’s where thousands of Americas were killed on September 11, 2001, when two airplanes were hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center..."

Actually, you idiot, I do vaguely remember what happened in New York City on September 11, 2001, during the administration of GEORGE W. BUSH and DICK CHENEY. And you know what? I'm still not urinating in my pants like you are. You'd probably claim that, being a left winger, I'm just trying to avoid wrecking the bomb I've got in there. Which leads me to a joke...no, on second thought, I don't think I'll go there.

But wait...there's more- the guy isn't done being stupid:

We must ditch this soft approach to terrorism. We need to understand that apprehending terrorists by whatever means necessary and then holding them somewhere where they cannot threaten the American people is the only sound approach to dealing with people bent on killing infidels (i.e., you and me)."

Somewhere they can't threaten Americans? How about in a maximum security prison? No? That doesn't work for you? Well, maybe we should just nuke their countries out of existence. That sounds more like your kind of diplomacy, and it has the added advantage (to Republicans) of making things worse.

World Net Daily: "No one in charge of airport security...TSA remains leaderless"

Of course that's because Republicans have engaged in another mindless filibuster of Obama's nomination to head the agency, but it wouldn't help the narrative to point that out, right?

Well, there you go. It's all Obama's fault. He has utterly failed us, because some dick managed to burn his legs on an airplane. On the other hand, 3,000 dead and Bush, who ignored numerous warnings of an attack, had no responsibility at all for what happened. Well, we will just have to wait for that recent presidential briefing that is titled "man determined to set pants on fire on airplane" and then the blaming can really begin.

The thing I don't get is, how was Obama supposed to spot this, when Republicans have been setting their own pants on fire all over the country, ever since he got elected?

Worth Keeping In Mind

From Disaffected And It Feels So Good, this trenchant observation:

"On this fake blessed day it's time to remember the one group of people whom even jesus hated and distrusted; Bankers."

Unfortunately, the people who need to remember this have a great talent for only remembering the parts of the Bible that suit their interests, and even then they usually remember them wrong.

Change We Can Really Believe In

From The Hill:

"Obama scores well for first year on ethics, say watchdog groups"

Lots of good news from a number of sources in this article. I particularly want to emphasize this, because one of the consistent themes on right wing blogs the past few months has been the claim that the Obama administration is incredibly corrupt. Of course, we know that they are making this charge because their hero, George Bush, presided over what will be remembered as the most corrupt presidential administration ever, in which what would have been considered a major scandal previously became the normal order of business. Imagine what an uproar there would have been twenty or thirty or fifty years ago if the Vice President made tens of millions of dollars in stock options on "no-bid" contracts given to his corrupt company. So, the right wingers have to convince themselves that Obama is worse.

That's a lie, guys, just like everything you say. Read the article.

He's Up To It Again

From Huffington Post:

"Sen. Joseph Lieberman, (I-Conn) a renowned hawk and one of the foremost champions of the invasion of Iraq, warned on Sunday that the United States faced "danger" unless it pre-emptively acts to curb the rise of terrorism in Yemen.

"Somebody in our government said to me in Sana'a, the capital of Yemen, Iraq was yesterday's war. Afghanistan is today's war. If we don't act preemptively, Yemen will be tomorrow's war," Lieberman said, during an appearance on "Fox News Sunday". "That's the danger we face....

Lieberman also argued that the botched attack should compel the Obama administration to abandon efforts to transfer suspected-terrorists out of the holding facility at Guantanamo Bay..."

So, lets take our eyes off the ball again, and have another unwinnable war. That sounds like a really good idea.

Was there ever anyone on Earth who combined stupidity and sheer hatred for what's right in the same quantities that we see in this worthless specimen of humanity? Seriously, I'd take Charlie Manson in the Senate rather than him. At least, with that swastika on his forehead, Charlie couldn't go around lying about which side he's really on.

A Little Bet

Well, by now most of us will have heard of the incident today in which a particularly incompetent Nigerian, who claims to be an Al Qaida operative of some sort, attempted to blow up a plane near Detroit.

Green Eagle is willing to bet that, by Monday, he will be able to assemble an entire Wingnut Wrapup consisting of nothing but right wingers savaging President Obama for this incident, and demanding his resignation for not having personally prevented it from happening.

Of course, it will not occur to any of them to reflect on the similar incident at about the same time into George W. Bush's term, and its rather different outcome.

A Christmas Note

Green Eagle thought that he would give his mindless sarcasm a rest for Christmas.

Don't worry- he'll be back tomorrow, twice as angry as ever.

Let The Whining Begin- er, Continue

Obamacare- it's only a few hours old, and the wingnuts are already in full whining mode. Here's a sample:

Red State: "The grand Republican strategy to have a vote on Christmas Eve was accomplished at 7:15AM (Eastern) this morning, while most Americans slept - and just like a thief in the night, the Senate has slipped in to your home to steal away your freedom and your right to care for your family as you see fit."

The Grand Republican Strategy apparently consisted of having their defeat occur while we were asleep. Way to go, with the grand strategy thing, guys. By the way, 7:15 AM isn't exactly the middle of the night. Anyway, congratulations on the success of your strategy to set the time of your humiliation.

And by the way, what the Democrats stole was your right to die on the street with no medical care. That's one right that most Americans might willingly give up.

Pammy Geller: "Whatever sick gloss they smear on this monster, "work makes you free," it is a disaster. Obama and his henchmen have declared war on the American people. Welcome to Christmas eve '09."

Good work, Pammy. You are the first one today to manage to compare the health care bill to Auschwitz. It just wouldn't be Christmas without a little Auschwitz from the right.

And now, a special grand grovelling in the cesspool award for projection, for this statement from Pammy:

"When the fascist party passed their nationalized obamacare plan in the middle of the night, I said that it was final proof that the Democrat party does not have one, not one, honest and decent man or woman."

What a girl, huh? By the way, Pammy, do I have to repeat myself here? 7:15 in the morning is not the middle of the night.

Gateway Pundit: "Democrats Ram Obamacare Through Senate 60-39… There Are No Moderates...We’re all socialists now."

If you say so, Mr. Pundit. So you've decided that it's time to join us? No thanks. If there's one thing we "socialists" learned today, it's that we do better without you.

Sarah Palin, poetic as usual: "c tomrrw's Healthcare Takeover vote=the sleeping giant will awaken&action will b takn by"average"Americans as lite shines on big govt growth"

Mybe, Srah=Mybe nt. I guess the sleeping giant doesn't like to have health care when he gets sick. He may feel that way, but I really doubt most Americans are going to agree with him. So, he might as well stay in bed. Or maybe he could spend his time travelling around signing books he didn't write.

World Net Daily: "Senate vote 'wired, stacked, rigged and packed'- John Gizzi: 'The ghost of Lyndon Johnson walked the halls and smiled'

Lyndon Johnson- remember him? He's the guy who brought us the civil rights act and medicare. I see why he was smiling.

World Net Daily: "Senator rips 'shameful' vote wrangling"

Because if there is one thing that is really shameful, it's when Democrats manage to amass enough votes to pass legislation. Only Republicans should be allowed to do that- otherwise how will we ever have another depression?

Rannesh Ponnuru, National Review Online: "This battle isn’t over, and opponents of the legislation could still win."

Yeah, Rannesh, how? Maybe by seceding, or by armed insurrection. Go for it. See where it gets you.

Jonah "Guess Who My Mommy Is" Goldberg, National Review Online: "Obama the outsider hasn’t changed the way Washington works; he’s worked Washington in a way that only an outsider with no respect for the place would dare."

Jonah, let me explain this to you in simple words: after the last eight years of conservative rule, there's not much there to respect. And, if you mean by the phrase "worked Washington," amassing enough votes to pass his legislation, yup, that's what he did. A real crime there, huh?

Listen, I could go on with this all day, but enough is enough; or in this case, too much is enough. Anyway, they're so cute when they whine.

Bill Passes

In case you haven't heard, the health care bill, or at least what remains of it, passed the Senate: 60 Dems for, and 39 Republicans against. Jim Bunning, who probably got lost on the way back from the rest room, didn't vote.

Well, at least holy Joe didn't stab us in the backs this time.

In the near future, when this bill is as much a part of our social fabric as social security and the minimum wage, some of us will remember the behavior of the Republican party over the last eight months.

Unfortunately, a lot of us won't.

Another Republican Goes Wacko

Governor Tim Pawlenty, frequently mentioned as the sane Republican candidate for 2012. from Little Green Footballs:

"Well, you know I’m an evangelical Christian. I believe that God created everything and that he is who he says he was. The Bible says that he created man and woman; it doesn’t say that he created an amoeba and then they evolved into man and woman. But there are a lot of theologians who say that the ideas of evolution andcreationism aren’t necessarily inconsistent; that he could have “created” human beings over time."

Sometimes it's hard to tell whether every single one of them is an ignorant, lunatic cracker, or whether a lot of them are just liars. Either way, anyone who would trust a Republican to walk their dog, let alone run the country, must be very deep indeed into self-destructive denial.

Wingnut Wrapup

As a result of wingnuts' recent commitment to boring us all into comas, it has taken a few days to put together this compendium of mendacity. Remember the "happy times" when they could easily come up with this much lunacy every single day? It seems so long ago, but it was only last summer!

Confederate Yankee: "It Is Time To Treat Climategate As A Crime"

Following the great Republican tradition of treating all truth as crime. Remember the yellowcake and the WMD's and the links between Saddam and Al Qaida? It was treason to tell the truth about that.

Leon De Winter, Pajamas Media: "Mr. President, You Can't Save the Economy and Save the Planet"

Starve or die, suckers. Take your pick.

Ron Rosenbaum, Pajamas Media: "Bill Clinton: Lower Than a Yard Dog"

They never give up, do they?

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit: "We Will Never Forget — Democrats Vote to Nationalize Health Care Tonight"

Don't worry about that, Jim. We are never going to forget that- just like we haven't forgotten Social Security or the minimum wage or the 40 hour work week or the FDIC or medicare or civil rights- all brought to you by Democrats over the screaming obstruction of Republicans. And just like we haven't forgotten one depression and one near depression- brought to you by Republicans.

Sher Zieve, Renew America: "Obama & Senate Christmas present to we-the-people: enslavement"

I.e. Health care. Same thing, really. Just trust Sher.

Astute Bloggers: "I GIVE OBAMA AN "F" FOR CHRISTMAS."

Now he's responsible for Christmas too? Anyway, Christmas isn't really all that bad, is it? I'd give him a C- at worst.

Streiff, Red State: "I don’t know what it is about center-right politics that makes people ignore defeating the left in favor of being punctiliously correct and “fair minded,” even when that behavior has the effect of helping the other side out."

Yeah. What makes these fools place being correct and fair minded above destroying the other political party at any cost? That doesn't make much sense. After all, who gives a God damn for the welfare of the country? Who on the right, anyway, despite their endless jingoistic blather.

Erick Erickson, Red State: "Making the Death Panels Permanent"

Erick, that lie is so last summer. You're a smart guy. You can come up with a new lie, I'm sure. I mean, it's been months now. Just try a little harder.

James Richardson, Red State: "Obama Administration Repatriating Gitmo Detainees to Failed States"

How dare they? And with the pathetic justification that Bush and Cheney held them in prison for seven years without being able to find them guilty of anything. Since when is innocence a defense? After all, they are Muslims.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit: "Liberal Politics at Its Best… Nearly Half of Detroit Is Unemployed"

Of course, the sterling performance of the management of Detroit's biggest industry, the American car companies, had nothing to do with that, huh? No, it was all the liberals' fault, for some reason. Go figure.

J. Matt Barber, Renew America: "The war on Christmas: it's a commie thing"

Who else would be behind it? It had to be the Islamocommies. We all knew that.

World Net Daily: "Obama lied in Copenhagen, says Cuban official"

We take this comment so seriously, because you guys have always shown such confidence in the pronouncements of Cuban officials.

Confederate Yankee: "Is Race The Only Thing Keeping This President From Being Rated The Worst Ever?"

No. No matter what he does, there's always George W. Bush.

Sarah Durand, Pajamas Media: "Just as parents must say "no" to children, government must learn to say "no" to citizens who want something for nothing."

I hope by that you are referring to all of the teabaggers, whose only belief in common seems to be that they don't want to pay their fair share of income taxes. It's about time someone pointed out to them what pathetic, unpatriotic parasites they are. If that's what you mean, I'm with you, Sarah."

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit: "It’s not like any of us were surprised by this news yesterday…The Obama White House Christmas Tree includes mass murderer Mao Tse-Tung ornaments.."

Boy, this has all the makings of a big scandal, right? Pathetic there, Mr. Pundit. Try again tomorrow.

World Net Daily: "Blowtorch fat right off your body in just 15 minutes "

And it would work too, Here it is, the first true thing I have seen at World Net Daily in a year.

Wendi Lynn G (related to Kenny?) American Thinker: "Why the 'Angry Mob' Is Angry"

Wendi, it's because they are stupid suckers. Deal with it.

American Thinker: "'For Sale: One senator (D-Neb.) No principles, low price."

I always said the guy was really a Republican. Why not cough up the dough, guys, and make it official? You won't get any whining from Green Eagle.

Astute Bloggers: "Obama has empowered the Interpol to arrest George Bush and Dick Cheney for trial in any World Court"

Oh, if only.... Sad to say (you know what's coming here) it's a lie, as usual.

Some Wingnut Advice for Ben Nelson

Here is an article from Politico (which some idiots still insist on considering nonpartisan) that will provide you with a few moments amazement at the continuing self-deception practiced by our "liberal" press, in order to do everything they can to maintain the viability of the pathetic Republican party:

"GOP obstruction a step in the right direction
By LAWRENCE A. HUNTER & LEWIS K. UHLER"

Well, I would agree that it's a step in the right direction, if by that you mean oblivion for the Republican party, but I don't think that's what Larry and Lew have in mind.

"... more than simple bribery was required to obtain Nelson’s vote to reach 60. Reid had to resort to fraud and deception...Reid played Nelson for a chump. Contrary to Reid’s assurances to Nelson, the language will lead to federally subsidized abortion."

Bribery, fraud and deception. First of all, can I point out that, apparently, Ben Nelson can't read, since it is perfectly acceptable for any Senator to actually look at the wording of the legislation he is going to vote on. More importantly, it is so interesting to note that these guys are so desperate to deny that the Democrats actually won this one by putting together sixty votes, that they are ready to convince themselves that this normal political process has now become, to them, some monument of evil. Too bad they weren't equally upset when Bush and Cheney lied us into war, and then lost.

"Every major anti-abortion group has stated on the record that the manager’s amendment language on abortion will be ineffectual and is unacceptable."

Anti-abortion groups? That's your source? Those guys wouldn't be satisfied with anything short of public beheading of abortion doctors. So, who cares what they want? They're a bunch of religious fanatics barely distinguishable from Al Qaida, except they don't get the seventy virgins.

"The nation awaits Nelson’s reaction to the shameful treatment he has received at the hands of his Democratic colleagues. Will the fierce opposition by anti-abortion groups to the abortion deception provide Sen. Nelson an “OMG moment,” leading him to understand that his fellow Democrats hornswoggled him on the abortion language?"

By which I take them to mean, "will he switch parties?" You know what? Good riddance, Ben. We don't need your sort of corruption on our side of the aisle.

"...the citizens of Nebraska are demanding that Nelson avail himself of his right to nullify a commitment extracted from him under duress by deceit and misrepresentation."

By which they seem to mean a bunch of teabaggers in Omaha who turned out to demonstrate against Ben. Here's my suggestion: Go ahead, Ben, do what those lunatics want you to do. See where it gets you.

"Lawrence A. Hunter is president of the Social Security Institute, and Lewis K. Uhler is president of the National Tax Limitation Committee."

What are those selfless organizations?

Here are some of the stated goals of the "Social Security Institute:"

"Abolish the estate and gift tax (death tax)
Abolish the capital gains tax
Overhaul the federal tax system
Enact a Spending and Tax Limitation Amendment"

We can see pretty clearly which taxpayers they are interested in.

And as for the National Tax Limitation Committee, as if you couldn't figure that one out on your own, from Sourcewatch:

"The National Tax Limitation Committee (NTLC) is an anti-tax group formed in 1975 by Lewis K. Uhler, a California native who worked c. 1968-1972 in then-Governor Reagan's "Office of Economic Opportunity."

The NTLC started accepting funding from the tobacco industry as early as 1983 and became a third party contact/ally of the tobacco industry in its efforts to limit state and federal taxes on cigarettes."

Oh. Those taxes. I see.

Nice Work, Guys- And No, We're Not Going to Forget

From a NBC/Wall Street Journal Poll about the Bush administration (via Think Progress:)

"37% said it lost ground on the environment, 46% said it lost ground on health and well being, 50% said it lost ground on peace and national security, 54% said lost ground on the nation’s sense of unity, 55% said it lost ground in treating others with respect, 66% said it lost ground on moral values, and a whopping 74% said it lost ground on economic prosperity."

Nice job, guys.

Of course Republicans are out there desperately trying to rewrite history, and make people think Obama is responsible for all of this. Remember Dana Perino a few weeks ago claiming that no terrorist attacks occurred on U. S. soil during the Bush administration? Or Karl Rove running all over the place to claim that the Bush administration had no responsibility for the current budget deficits?

They've tried this before. Decades of unremitting lies have succeeded in blotting out, in many people's minds, the truth about the Vietnam war, the economic disaster created by the Reagan administration, and even the colossal military failure we experienced in Iraq.

The country has paid a horrible price because so many liberals stood idly by and allowed these people to whitewash the disasters created by the followers of conservative ideology. Let's try to see that it doesn't happen again.

Season's Greetings from the Green One

An Apology to Barack

Those of you who have read Green Eagle lately may have noticed that I have been pretty hard on Barack Obama because of the endless wrangling and watering down that produced the weak health care reform bill that now seems likely to pass the Senate.

Well, I was doing some research on previous votes in the Senate on major legislation creating programs that are now considered essential, such as Social security, the FDIC and medicare, when I found the following long article online. It is a history of the struggle leading up to the establishment of the minimum wage in 1938, from the Department of Labor. I hope you will click on the link and at least scan through it. It tells a story of endless stalling, misrepresentation, and exactly the same sort of obstructionist tactics, not all from the other side of the aisle, that were used against the current health care reform bill. And it also details the painful, and seemingly endless series of compromises which Roosevelt had to make, to get a watered down version of his original intention passed. This in spite of the fact that all of Roosevelt's major legislation passed with some Republican votes, unlike the situation today, where the Republican party is united in mindless opposition to anything, no matter how important, which might make the Dems look good.

After reading this, I have a much higher opinion of Obama's accomplishment. We have gotten our foot in the door, and after sixty years we have established that the government does have a right to impede the worst excesses of corporations. We all wanted more, and we aren't going to get it now. But I guess I underestimated the power of the forces that could be arrayed against us. This article opened my eyes. I think it will interest you too.

The Face of Defeat

Here is a collection of the whining, self-delusion, hypocrisy, accusations of Democratic corruption for daring to assemble 60 votes to pass legislation, smears, lies, and all of the other standard Republican ploys which I found today, on my usual right wing websites, in response to the apparent imminent passage of some sort of health care bill. The list is so long (for one day!) that I am just going to reprint it without my usual sarcastic comments. I don't even expect you to read your way through the whole list. I just want you to see the magnitude of filth that we are fighting against.

Town Hall: "Dem Sen: Opponents of Health Bill Are Birthers, Right-Wing Militias, Aryan Groups- Shock video: Liberal politician characterizes conservatives as racists."

Erick Erickson, Red State: "If you oppose health care deform, you are a racist, hate-spouting, Aryan who roots for the assassination of Barack Obama"
Confederate Yankee: "All I Want Is A Byrd Dropping For Christmas...It isn't too much to ask for Byrd to step off for that great klavern in the sky before the Senate vote that may force this nation to accept government-rationed health care. Even a nice coma would do."
Matt Patterson, Pajamas Media: "The Socialist Revolution Has Come to America"

Seventy Percent

Paul Krugman, from an as-usual great column in the New York Times this morning:

"The political scientist Barbara Sinclair has done the math. In the 1960s, she finds, “extended-debate-related problems” — threatened or actual filibusters — affected only 8 percent of major legislation....after Democrats retook control of Congress in 2006 and Republicans found themselves in the minority, it soared to 70 percent."

We are dealing with an unprecedented event in our country's history- the utter refusal of one of the major political parties to engage in any real effort to deal with the nation's problems. I am not sure that this nation can survive the subversion which has become the go-to solution of the Republican party. But I am sure that it will not survive if Democrats do not start answering dirty politics with hardball politics.

Doing away with the current filibuster rules, as Krugman advocates, is one possible answer. Whether that is the solution, or just forcing the Republicans to really filibuster every time they want to thwart democratic rule, until the country becomes terminally disgusted with them, or something else- the Dems need to find some answer to this problem. We as a nation cannot afford eight months of threats, tantrums, talk of secession and murder, lies, smears, phony demonstrations, and every other crude manipulation on earth, on every important issue, before the majority can make progress.

More "Bad Intelligence"

From Talking Points Memo:

"A self-styled Nevada codebreaker convinced the CIA he could decode secret terrorist targeting information sent through Al Jazeera broadcasts, prompting the Bush White House to raise the terror alert level to Orange (high) in December 2003, with Tom Ridge warning of "near-term attacks that could either rival or exceed what we experience on September 11," according to a new report in Playboy."

It is a national scandal, if you believe Republicans, that a harmless couple managed to enter an Obama event. I wonder how much outrage will be expressed at this very real display of malfeasance in the handling of our safety.

It is clear by now that a good deal of the constant Republican harping on the imaginary incompetence of the Obama administration, whose problems are largely generated by an out of control opposition party dedicated solely to making Obama fail, are a desperate attempt to obscure the mammoth disaster that was the administration of their anointed leaders.

Sarah Speaks

In the name of science, I feel a need to bring to you this sterling contribution to the global warming debate, from that eminent expert, Dr. Sarah Palin:

"arrogance of man2think we can change nature's ways.MUST b good stewards of God's earth, but arrogant&naive2say man overpwers nature"

There. Aren't you glad we got that settled? And thanks again to Twitter, for allowing us to deal with any issue with a sound bite.

Weakness

Daily Kos:

"Do they know what they’ve thrown away? Do they know that their constant conciliations to those who would like nothing more than to block success are seen as weakness, when strength is required? Do they know how bad it looks that they are caving to a man who campaigned against them, yet loudly criticizing one who built the infrastructure that allowed them to succeed? Gibbs, Axelrod sounding like idiots talking about insanity? What madness is this?"

I disagree. These things are not seen as weakness, they are weakness. Their caving to their enemies doesn not just look bad, it is bad.

At this point, with all of his audacity and hope apparently exhausted by election day, Obama doesn't just look like a failure, he is a failure. After the worst president in history, Obama had within his grasp the chance to be one of the great presidents. Instead, he chose to ally himself with the self-serving, valueless likes of Rahm Emmanuel, Max Baucus, Joe Lieberman and, in the end the Republican party itself. At this point, he is on a path to becoming one of the most hapless, weak presidents of all time.

American Business Strikes Again

From the New York Times:

"G.M. Plans to Close Saab After Sales Talks Collapse"

The end of a highly respected car company, at the hands of the manufacturing masters at G. M.

One more innocent victim of the cesspool of incompetence that is American management, where the worse you do for your company, the better you do for yourself.

No Such Thing

I hope I may be permitted the liberty of quoting this line from Josh Marshall in its entirety:

"After months in which the Senate health care bill was held up over efforts to find some form in which she would agree to sign on to it, Sen. Snowe (R-ME) now says she will oppose it because it is being "rushed."

May I reiterate what I have said before: there is NO SUCH THING as an honest Republican. The best that supposedly exist (that would be you, Olympia) are corrupt, lying traitorous criminals, totally in thrall to the rich, and loving it that way.

There is no such thing as an honest Republican.

Draw the Line Already

Is there no end to Democratic weakness? From Politico:

"An aide to Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) coordinated opposition to the Senate health bill’s abortion compromise this morning with the Republican Senate leadership, according to a chain of frantic emails obtained this morning by POLITICO...The emails suggest a previously unseen degree of coordination between the offices of Stupak and McConnell."

We have a Republican party today that has abandoned any commitment to the welfare of our country, in service of its own interests and those of its rich backers. Are we to tolerate people in our own party who are destroying both its interests and the interest of the nation, in order to form a league with those who will willingly betray us? When is enough enough? And when will someone in authority make it clear that there is at least one American political party that will not provide a haven for crazed, corrupt religious fanatics?

Helpful Insight friom St. John

John McCain, on Fox News (where else?)

"[Obama] said there would be a change in the climate in Washington. There's been a change. It's more partisan. It's more bitterly divided than it's been..."

So, it's all Obama's fault, huh?

Why don't you try looking in the mirror once in a while, you lying dick?

The Big News of the Day

Well, Obama is about to get his health care bill. It is going to be interesting to see how hard the news media works to convince us that a failure is a success, compared to the massive effort they put forth to present Bush's epic failure in Iraq as a glorious triumph.

So it snowed a lot on the east coast. Depending on which right winger you listen to, this proves either that God is doing what he can to stop the Senate from passing health care reform, or else that God hates climate change science, rather preferring to see human greed be permitted to destroy his creation.

Just another day here in the greatest country in the history of the world.

Saint John Mc Cain- Not So Saintly

This great story from Think Progress (via Atrios:)

Mc Cain Now: "McCAIN: I’ve been around here 20-some years. First time I’ve ever seen a member denied an extra minute or two to finish his remarks. … I just haven’t seen it before myself. And I don’t like it."

McCain then (2002:) "Mr. DAYTON. I ask for unanimous consent that I have 30 seconds more to finish my remarks.
Mr. McCAIN. I object."

Given what we've seen lately, from the likes of St. John and former Democrat you-know-who, I sort of wonder if "moderate, willing to work with the other side" isn't just a euphemism for lying, self-serving dick.

Just the News We Need

In case you aren't ready to go be sick in the bathroom from the news lately, this headline from Politico:

"Monica's Back"

Luckily, like most things in Politico, it wasn't true.

Green Eagle Awards of the Week

Green Eagle is very apologetic that he has been so neglectful of his task of rewarding those on the right who lead the way in childish tantrums, sick delusions and outright lying. So here he is, trying to catch up on the workload:

A special Whiny Little Baby award for Erick Erickson, for this outbreak of synthetic misery over the Dems finding a way to stop the Senate Republicans from wasting two days in the Senate reading a 700 page bill:

"As so many of us have tried to tell Mitch McConnell for weeks and weeks and weeks, the Senate GOP must throw everything they can at killing the health care bill. Instead, we have seen the Senate Republicans working collaboratively with the Democrats"

"But then something curious happened — something that violates the sacrosanct nature of the Senate’s rules; rules so inviolable that until yesterday neither Democrat nor Republican ever risks crosses the rules in over 200 years....One of the chief rules of the Senate is that when one Senator has the floor, no other Senator may act.

Tom Coburn had the floor. He made the clerk read the amendment. Somehow, however, Senator Sanders was able to have his amendment yanks mid-reading.

Hopefully the Senate Republicans now realize they are dealing with third world kleptocrats, not American legislators."

Ha ha. The Republicans were working collaboratively with the Democrats. That alone deserves the lying championship of the month. The rest is sheer whining, of a particularly entertaining variety.

Now a certificate of merit for misuse of anti-Islamic racism in an utterly unrelated context: Hereby awarded to (who else?) that mainstay of Wingnut Wrapup, and world champion Muslim baiter, Pam Geller:

"The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) wants to conduct a carbon jihad and seize control over the economy by regulating carbon dioxide as a pollutant"

A carbon jihad. There's a new one. Scientists, terrorists, what's the difference?

And now a booby prize to Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit, for notable achievement in taking pride in doing the wrong thing:

"Not a single GOP Rep voted for the democrat’s historic trilion dollar Stimulus Package.
Not a single GOP Rep voted for the democrat’s record budget.
And, once again, not one single Republican House members voted for “Son of Stimulus” the latest Democratic spending bill."

And aren't you guys proud of yourselves. Fighting so hard to keep the rich rich and America poor.

Now, the Vladimir Ilyich Ulianov trophy in over-the-top-red-baiting-even-for-them, to Sher Zieve at Renew America:

"Obama's communists now ruling the USA: republic is formally dead...Obama is so bent upon getting his way and destroying the USA that he is now openly — and in full view of all — threatening to place the country in even more jeopardy. The Communist Obama Government now has a stranglehold on the United States of America, its legislators and its people and he will NOT willingly let go. In fact, as his smile beams even more broadly he is squeezing ever tighter to end our lives and the life of our country."

Boy, that's scary, huh? He's squeezing tighter to end all of our lives. I think I feel it already! No, maybe it's that hamburger I had for lunch.

And now the highly anticipated award in the category of "what universe do you live in, anyway?" This year's winner, Erick Erickson, completing a twofer in today's ceremony:

"In order to bring former Democrat and now Independent Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) into line, Obama ordered his minions to go on a search-and-destroy mission against Lieberman's wife Hadassah. After his Tuesday press conference, it appears that Sen. Lieberman may have folded like the proverbial cheap suit."

How dare they mention that his wife is a medical industry lobbyist when they question his hypocritical abandoning of his principals to support the insurance companies? And, really, "folded like a cheap suit?" How about "Smeared like a squashed slug," or "crawled with flies like last week's noodle kugel," or something more descriptive. Still, it barely won out over other entrants to take the award.

And finally, a special achievement certificate for combining hypocritical screams of racism with outlandish lies, to some black minister somewhere, who was willing to say this in order to get himself on a major right wing blog:

World Net Daily: "Minister: Obamacare kills African-American babies- Charges president has become 'the face of black genocide in America today'

The face of black genocide. Is that worse than squeezing all of us to death? Who knows. Anyway, guys, keep up the good work, and Green Eagle shall provide you with your well-earned rewards.

P.S. For those of you who were concerned, it was the hamburger.

The Rules are Different when You're Rich

Another example:

"Morgan Stanley ... plans to relinquish five San Francisco office buildings to its lender two years after purchasing them from Blackstone Group LP near the top of the market.

“This isn’t a default or foreclosure situation,” [Alyson Barnes, a Morgan Stanley spokeswoman] said. “We are going to give them the properties to get out of the loan obligation.”

To get out of the loan obligation. But it's not a default. Well, there you go.

A Fitting Award

It's not often that I give a commendation of merit for exceptional misuse of 9/11. Rudy Giuliani set the bar so high for this award that it's really hard to earn it these days. However, I think I have found a worthy recipient for such a coveted award:

"House Minority Leader John Boehner said Tuesday that the Obama administration’s plan to move some Guantanamo detainees to Illinois shows that the White House "must've forgotten" about the Americans who died on Sept. 11."

So, for the unusual feat of extreme jingoism, combined with filthy smears and an utter disregard of the real issues involved, I hereby salute House Minority Leader John Boehner for his contribution to the degradation of our nation's political discourse. I can't say that it will receive the same glorious reception that Republicans gave Obama's Nobel Peace Prize, but at least in this case, there is no question that Boehner has earned his accolades. At the rate he is going, it won't be too long before he is up for consideration for a lifetime achievement award.

Not a Fair Fight

So Sarah Palin has finally gone off the edge- now she's taking on the Governator. Here's a picture from a right wing website:

Are you kidding me? Take a look at those two people. Little girl, if I were you, I'd put that gun down and back away very slowly.

And by the way, Sarah, Arnold has had a lot of trouble to deal with as governor, but I don't notice that he ran away crying to mama in the middle of his term.

Wingnut Wrapup

Well, it took them a few days, but here's some idiocy from the right. I think they're too busy celebrating their great victory in denying health care to millions of Americans, to put a lot of effort into broadcasting their lunacy.

Town Hall: "Iran to try 3 Americans who crossed Iraqi border"

I hope they are not going to try them in a civilian court, or else millions of Iranians will be killed by terrorists, right?

Confederate Yankee: "Obama Dithers. Will the Middle East Burn?"

Not as much as it did under you-know-who, Mr. Yankee.

Pammy Geller, Atlas Shrugs: "Queen Elizabeth banned from making state visit to Israel, says historian- The eminent historian Andrew Roberts has said that the British government had a de facto ban in place on state visits by Queen Elizabeth II to Israel. "The true reason of course, is that the FO [Foreign Office] has a ban on official royal visits to Israel, which is even more powerful for its being unwritten and unacknowledged."

The "eminent historian" Andrew Roberts, huh... Some of you may know of my tremendous respect for Richard Evans, the great expert on Germany. Well, he has this to say about Andrew Roberts:

Professor Richard Evans, said his oeuvre consists of "hastily written potboilers, widely criticised by reviewers for their inadequacies and inaccuracies", and says they contain "many inaccuracies and errors"

Nice try, Pammy. Glad to see you sticking to your usual journalistic standards.

Pammy again: " Rev. Stephen Venner called for a more sympathetic approach to the Islamic fundamentalists that recognises their humanity.
Why doesn't the Bishop saw his own head off and send it to the insurgents in a pretty English racing green box? That's a solution that will please them no end."

Oh, I don't know, Pammy. I'm not sure it's possible to saw your own head off and then send it to someone. Why don't you try it, and report back to us.

And Pammy again (last time today- I promise): "Muslim Bites Rabbi"

Perish the thought. What next- "Muslim pinches the Archbishop of Canterbury" or maybe "Muslim Pokes the Pope with a Pencil?" These outrages are what makes it totally justified for us to go over where they live and kill a couple of million of them, just to teach them a lesson. Why, I bet the bite marks didn't go away for two or three days.

Newsmax: "Latest: John Wayne Loved America, Share His Love for Christmas!"

Of course, he didn't love America enough to interrupt his film career to serve in World War II like most of his fellow actors. But then, he talked so tough. A perfect right wing hero, huh?

Henry Lamb, Renew America: "The idea that the role of government is to provide for its citizens is a return to the dark ages"

As opposed to helping the rich prey on them. Now, that is the real, God-given purpose of government today, right, Henry?

World Net Daily Special Offer: "How to melt away cancer from your body ... using nothing more than your fingertips! Try this on yourself right now"

Hey, there is a conservative alternative to the public option. Who needs government health care, when you can rub your disease away with your fingertips? Why didn't Obama think of that?

Chuck Norris, Town Hall: "What if Mother Mary Had Obamacare?"

What if Methuselah had social security? He would have collected for eight hundred years or so. That would have really bankrupted the social security fund.

And what if Samson had the right to bear arms? Or if Solomon had only had broadband? Or...no, wait, I've got to get a grip on myself here, or this could go on all day. The bible is a long book, you know.

Wait- here's an idea? What if Chuck Norris just shut up?

Jonah Goldberg, Town Hall: "America Through the Reality Lens"

Jonah Goldberg....reality. The mind boggles.

Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit: "Joe Lieberman Tells FOX News That He’s Very Angry About the Attacks on His Wife"

A. Who gives a damn what Joe Lieberman is angry about. Really.

B. Listen, you dick: When your wife gets paid by the insurance companies, and you side with them against the American people, you should see how angry that makes us. So quit complaining, you corrupt maggot.

Jerome Corsi, Renew America: "Could it be that President Obama intends to bankrupt the USA in order to destroy free-enterprise capitalism itself? "

Oh, that's a real possibility, that deserves our consideration. Sure, he might be out to destroy America. That happens so often with presidents.

World Net Daily: "'Game-changer' allows 'gays' to marry online"

Well, I guess that's okay, as long as it's 'gays' and not gays.

National Review Online: "Obama: Not the Savior of the World"

Darn. And we Democrats all thought he was.

The Astute Bloggers: "DANES DREAMING OF A WHITE CHRISTMAS - AND THEY'RE COMING TRUE! (DESPITE AL GORE!)"

OH MY GOD! IT'S SNOWING IN DENMARK IN DECEMBER! I GUESS THAT SURE PUTS AN END TO TALK ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING! And really, guys, fix that caps lock key already.

The Astute Bloggers: "Climategate is a global household name."

In your dreams, o astute guys. It's a household name only in the world of people who search out the most monumental lies they can find, like Green Eagle. Otherwise, nada. Deal with it.

Virtual Threat

Thomas (never been right in my life) Friedman, from his apparently tenured position as most deluded columnist at the New York Times:

"Let’s not fool ourselves. Whatever threat the real Afghanistan poses to U.S. national security, the “Virtual Afghanistan” now poses just as big a threat. The Virtual Afghanistan is the network of hundreds of jihadist Web sites that inspire, train, educate and recruit young Muslims to engage in jihad against America and the West."

Thomas, how about a column about the hundreds of websites right here in America that teach right wingers that our government is a communist Muslim monster, and that it's alright to advocate or engage in any kind of violence or attacks on the rest of us, rather than admit that Democrats won the last election? They are every bit as hateful and self-righteous as any Muslims; and at least Muslims don't have a political party in this country egging them on.

Maybe we could call it a virtual Reich.

So Glad to Hear That

This news:

"Asked if Obama is as demanding of Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn), whose opposition to a public option and Medicare buy-in provision led to their removal, as he has been of progressives like Sens. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), both staunch supporters of a public plan, Gibbs affirmatively replied: "Yes."

Yeah, sure. When are we going to find out what concessions Lieberman made? I'm sure we all would like to hear that.

Maybe this is what they were talking about, from CNN:

" BASH: Any chance Joe Lieberman would run as a Republican?

LIEBERMAN: I don't know what I'll run as. I like being an independent, so that's definitely a possibility, but I'd say that all options are open.

BASH: Really?

LIEBERMAN: Yeah. It's unlikely that I would run as a Republican, but I wouldn't foreclose any possibility."

Maybe that's the promise: Joe can humiliate the Democratic leadership on their most important issue, as long as he promises to get the hell out of our party. Actually, that might be a pretty good deal.

The Pathetic Truth

From Americablog:

"We lost real health care reform not because we don't have a "real" filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. We lost health care reform because we don't have a real leader anywhere in our party. It's not going to get better if we elect more Democrats to the Senate and it's not going to play out any differently should we try to revisit this issue in the future.

And one final point. What do you think is going to happen if, during the House-Senate conference, a combined bill is returned to the Senate that even vaguely improves upon the garbage they're currently debating? Joe Lieberman, Ben Nelson, Mary Landrieu and Evan Bayh will threaten the same filibuster. We're not getting anything better than the crap they just came up with last night. It's over. The next three years are going to be abou mediocrity, broken promises, and striving for second best. That's not the America I grew up in. And it's not what I voted for, or was promised."

The worst of what we feared over the last eight months is coming true this week. And, as the above comment says, we would be fools at this point to think that we will get anything different the next three years. Barack Obama is proving to be an ineffectual, weak disappointment. He could have won this battle if he had really fought for the right thing. Instead, he listened to the sleazy pols like Rahm Emmanuel, Harry Reid and (my God) Joe Lieberman, who care about nothing but keeping their positions. So now, the rest of us get nothing, and the lying, corrupt, incompetent Republican party, which was nearly dead a year ago, has found a way to destroy all of what we worked so hard to achieve. And Barack is helping them out. I guess he wasn't big enough to be president.
